Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Battery life. * How important is weight and thinness to you? Under 2kgs would be good* Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows* Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I'd like a numpad, but as small as possible * Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Probably just office apps and web browsing * Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? As mentioned, I'll be doing work with numbers at times so I'll need a numpad keyboard. But it doesn't need to be particularly high spec, just light with decent battery life, and Microsoft office home and business if available as a set deal would be great [link] [comments] |

2 in 1 for illustrating purposes? Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:08 AM PST Hello, I am in Australia and looking for a new laptop for graphic design. My budget is around $1000 but I can probably go higher if I need to. I create detailed illustrations mainly on Photoshop so am looking for either a 2 in 1 laptop with a very good pen/drawing experience or a normal laptop that runs adobe software well (mainly Photoshop) and getting a wacom tablet to use as an add on. I basically want to know if the drawing experience on 2 in 1 laptops can be as good as the tablets designed specifically for that purpose. It would be good if the laptop can handle light gaming but not essential. I don't care too much about weight or battery because I mainly work from home but it still needs to be portable so that I can work elsewhere if I need to. Thank you in advance :) [link] [comments] |

Looking for 2nd laptop to use as a heavy, large laptop 17 inch laptop for home Posted: 30 Nov 2018 01:46 PM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** USA - Absolute Max Budget $2000 * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** It will mainly stay of my table at home, so mainly best specs for money. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Not particuarly important: I dont plan to take it around with me regularly. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** Preferably 17 inch * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** I plant to do regular gaming on it. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** My game roster changes regularly but I can say I want to play AAA games at decent framerates on high settings * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** I care a lot about screen quality. One of the biggest things for me is brightness and colour coverage. I also like good build quality but that is less important than screen. Trackpad is a non-factor because I would use a mouse anyway but a good keyboard would be nice. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I already have a surface laptop, and I am happy with it, but I need something with a bit more horsepower for home. The reason I need 2 laptops rather than a desktop and a laptop is I have a weird situation where I spend about 6 months a year in a house in the USA and 6 months in the UK, and I don't want to have to buy 2 desktops instead of a bigger laptop. Looking for a good video editing portable workstation in Italy with a budget of maximum 1200€ Posted: 01 Dec 2018 02:15 AM PST
Italy. Maximum budget 1200 €.
Definitely best specifications. I will be editing on the move, but I hope to find at least a coffee shop with a plug socket in any main city.
Somewhat important. I need to move it around, but I would definitely okay with more weight if it means higher specs.
Windows
Over 15".
The software I use the most are Adobe Premiere, some basic After Effects, Lightroom, and I am starting to experiment with AutoCAD and GIS software (AutoCAD MAP 3D mostly for now).
I like to game, but this is not the primary porpouse of this workstation.
I am not very picky about this. I can adapt to everything, as long as it renders at a decent speed.
My job involves filming, moving and editing on the go. I am looking for a reasonably powerful workstation that can follow me around the globe, but with enough horsepower to put together high-quality audiovisual content without having to rent a machine on the spot. Within my budget, I was looking at an Asus Vivobook Pro N580GD-E4087T, but I would like to hear what other bells says. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Dec 2018 02:15 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: 2000$ USA MAX!* Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. PERFORMANCE! * How important is weight and thinness to you? preferably a desktop replacement but nothing too heavy like 11 or 12 pounds.* Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows * Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. again, desktop replacement so 15-17 inches is good. * Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Heavy Gaming * If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I plan on running GTaV with mods, Just Cause 4, Very demanding plane and car simulators like Beamng.drive and Xplane11, and other newer titles like COD IIII and Battlefield V * Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I guess I/O is important so I can hook all my controllers, but I do want to be able to run all games at at least Med settings preferably high or Ultra. * Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. just a beastly powerful machine, a "godly" computer that I could use for the next 3-5 years without needing upgrades to run newer titles. Hello, I am majoring in Computer Science in college, would it be a dumb move to get a macbook? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:16 PM PST I will be taking the class next semester (my second) and I am going to ask for a laptop for christmas. My question is, would it be a good/bad idea for me to ask for a macbook? Would I be able to use a macbook for a computer science class/throughout the course of my degree? I want to eventually hone in to software engineering. Does it matter what kind of laptop I have? Will I at some point NEED to have a windows computer? I've just always used apple products so a macbook is what I am most familiar with. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Need a laptop with the least amount of compromise as possible .. Posted: 01 Dec 2018 12:05 AM PST -2,500 -Prefer a laptop that I can use on my lap comfortably and portable, good performance and 8 hours of use - Under 5 pounds, around .7 mm thick max - I have a iphone, apple watch, and airpods so I think mac os for continuity but I don't really care too much - Bigger is better but am considering 13 " - No. My biggest thing is research( 30 chromes tabs), data compilation (excel, python, SQL, VM), Office products (Word), at the same time with imessage if on a Mac - Biggest thing is that I need it to have a really good wifi card, work without any screen flex on my lap (in chair, in bed, etc.), a good touchpad because I honestly won't hook up anything to this computer other than a power chord -I really need something with no lag what so ever at any point and am willing to pay the premium for the processor. I currently have a massive i7-6700HQ laptop with a GTX 970M so I don't really need a machine to game on. My last mobile laptop was a fully decked out 2013 MBP that I felt like was starting to stutter here and there and wasn't going as fast as I needed it to. I also don't need more than 256 gigs. I don't edit video or photos or anything. [link] [comments] |
Looking For Decent 2-in-1 Laptop (USA w/$ Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:27 PM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** <$1,500, USA * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** The best specifications for the money. Having a 2-in-1 would be a huge plus * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Nothing too heavy and clunky. I'll be carrying it around for long periods of times. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** N/A * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Photo editing, video editing, and light/casual gaming. Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Doesn't matter too much, just as long as it doesn't lag too badly when I'm playing games like DoTA and CS:GO. I'm actually trying to quit gaming or just leave it at a minimum. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** A good keyboard/input devices and a touchscreen would be nice. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I was initially thinking about buying the Surface Pro 6, but given what I'm looking for, not sure if it's the best choice. Main reason as to getting a 2-in-1 is for easy note-taking and scribbling. [link] [comments] |

Asus Zenbook 14 or Lenovo T480 Thinkpad Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:11 PM PST Biggest things I'm concerned with are - Durability & Longevity > speed > screen/sound > battery life. Needed for graduate school, entertainment and field work-ish programs like Rcode and ArcGlobe/GIS. Basically nothing with crazy requirements, but lots of data and photo/video sifting. I would very much like a touchpad, but a nice screen is just as important. Half the time I'll have it hooked up to an external monitor/keyboard, so neither of those really matter when it's being used at home. I'm looking at the newish Zenbook 14 for $1100 after tax and w/ amazon discount - No touchscreen and no dedicated graphics. Sexy screen and great specs. I'm sure I won't be using them any time soon as full capacity, but I like knowing it will stay relevant longer than not. Also doesn't have an Anti-glare screen, wondering what the difference would look like
Was also wondering why these two models are such more cheaper/more expensive considering the differences UX410UA and Zenbook 13 UX331UA (which really seems like the best deal, but was looking for a bigger screen. Is the difference in a 13 and 14 that big? I've only ever used the 15.6) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Specced a T480 down to $890 using a corporate code : Absolutely hate the look of this, MOSTLY the red nub on the keyboard. Atleast the T480s has a silver option, but specced about $50-100 more just for the model. Has a touchscreen, less ram but DDR4 instead of 3. Less HD space but same specs. i5 instead of i7, which honestly the difference doesnt seem crazy. Has a cylindrical 72W battery added. Can upgrade and customize each particular component for around $50-100
How do the Ideapads compare to the Thinkpad 720s (14), because I like the look more and this has similar speccs for about $750, plus it has a MX150...just in case I wanna do something graphics related. Plus it has no keyboard NUB! My laptop that just died was an older Ideapad 15.6 inch. I liked the design and feel of it a bit, but the plastic parts started to break and it slowed down considerably over time.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but looking for a suggestion on these specific models, or anything you think would be an equivalent purchase within the ranges. I also looked at the Swift 3 but I have real hard time trusting anything from Acer. [link] [comments] |

A touchscreen/stylus compatibility would be really ideal. I love to draw and I think I would get a lot of use from digital drawing. I don't need an optical drive. Would like a nice keyboard and touchpad.

Reliability and longevity in Macbook vs Windows Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:39 PM PST Hey! I'd like to receive some advice from you wise folks out here. I can't choose between the following:
I've never owned a Mac, but I'm tired of having to reset my laggy-ass windows laptops after a year or two every time, so I'm open to macs this time around too. In your opinion, which would be the most reliable of the bunch? I'm looking for something that can last me a few years without blue screening or becoming laggy. Thanks in advance for your help! EDIT: For reference, I've owned a Surface Pro and Surface Pro 4, I love how tiny they are but they inevitably dissapoint me after 2 or 3 years. [link] [comments] |

Best specs for the money, not interested in 2 in 1, good battery would be nice.
Reasonably as it will be have to be carried to and from university classes.
Windows.
13" at the least.
Specs for games currently on the market at atleast low settings. Minor multi-tasking, able to have programs in the background.
League of Legends (Medium to High), Overwatch (Low to Medium), CSGO (Low to Medium), Rainbow Six Siege (Low to Medium). Preferably the strongest possible that you can get in the price range.
Good build quality, enough USB ports leftover when using peripherals, SSD (preferably), a decent keyboard.
This is for a friend. I realise that this is r/suggestalaptop but if anyone could give thoughts on whether a gaming pc and lighter laptop would be better for the price range or not then thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:17 PM PST HP Pavilion Gaming i7 8750H (6 cores, up to 4.1GHz) 8GB 2666MHz 128GB SSD + 1TB 7200rpm HDD GTX 1060 Max Q 3GB FHD IPS The design is pretty slick and I'm on a 1000$ budget, so I find this one within the bounds. But is the 1060 Max Q 3GB a good upgrade over the 4GB 1050Ti? It's a 190$ difference between this config and 1050Ti + i5 8500H and an 80$ difference with the 1050Ti + i7 8750 config. Which one is the best bang for buck? Thanks [link] [comments] |
