How to modify the controller chip on a USB flash drive? Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:40 PM PST I have recently purchased a 16GB USB flash drive simply for messing around with, pulling apart and whatnot, and noticed that the flash chip on it is not 16GB, but rather 32GB. How would I go about reprogramming the controller chip to use the entire 32GB flash chip, rather than the 16GB they limited it to? The controller chip, as best as I can read it is an Alcor, AU6989SN?? (can't read the last 2 characters) Here's a photo of the board: https://i.imgur.com/lRnSmkc.jpg [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2018 01:12 PM PST So, my OnePlus 2 phone was acting up. I thought it was a good phone and wanted to switch to it. After a bit, the google playstore began acting up, crashing, giving me messages that "google play store has stopped responding" etc. So naturally, i thought i'd deactive then reactivate google play services. At some point i thought i'd re-install the OS, or at least install a new OS, Cyanogen 15 i believe. I'd installed it and then i ended up deleting all of the files. Now my phone won't boot past the OnePlus logo in boot screen. I'm able to enter fastboot mode but that's just about it. [link] [comments] |
I have managed to stump my internet provider... Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:37 PM PST I don't know what to do, something strange but probably simple is happening with my wifi connection specifically at home. I seemingly cannot access certain webpages from my wifi connection at home but other pages work fine. The ones I have discovered so far that will not work are: Old navy Home Depot Steam I have tried resetting my router. I have tried chrome, safari, my iPhone 7 Plus, my partners Samsung galaxy note 5, my ancient HP pavilion dv6 and each one displays the same error message: "Access Denied You don't have permission to access "http://www.oldnavy.ca/" on this server. Reference #18.6c3a2b17.1543901332.2a244c1" The reference number varies slightly when I refresh the page. When I looked at a few forums it says there is something in the browser settings to enable, did that, still nothing. I cannot access the play station app. I cannot play online games: "Cannot connect to online server" happens each time o try and load any online game. When I connect to the LTE network it works fine. I have restarted every device. I have restarted the router. I have tried I wired LAN connection to the laptop and it still happens. I'm in no urgent need of accessing these webpages but not being able to play any online game is making me crazy. I called my ISP and they say "you might be blacklisted on these webpages. I am not blacklisted from these pages and I know my PlayStation account is valid because I can play offline games. I'm perplexed and feel like throwing my router into the harbour and finding a new ISP because they say there is no issue. When I'm connected to anyone else's wifi these websites work fine. Any ideas? Help! My Moto X (2013) is not mounting my USB flash drive through an OTG connector. Posted: 04 Dec 2018 03:35 AM PST I'm using a Moto X (2013) the 1st generation and the USB I'm using is a Kingston DTSWIVL 32GB. The OTG connector is a standard non branded. The connector itself is working fine since I tested with a wired keyboard and mouse. Blue Snowball microphone not working in windows 10! Posted: 04 Dec 2018 12:00 AM PST Honestly about to lose my mind. I've watched nearly every single video I can find regarding this microphone not working and none of them have been anywhere near what my problem is. I recently bought this mic, it's a new model and it says it's plug and play compatible with windows 10 right on the box. This isn't something stupid like "haha try another USB port/turn your pc off and plug it back in," i've tried everything. My problem is when I plug the mic in, the red light comes on but NO WHERE on my pc does it show that the mic is connected. Nothing is anywhere to be seen in device manager, the sound control panel, or under devices and printers. The cable nor the mic are faulty, I plugged it into my brother's laptop and I was recording audio with it in under a minute. I know for a fact that my pc works with microphones because I have used 2 other microphones in the past and never had a single issue. PLEASE someone help me out i've been at this for my entire day and nothing is getting me anywhere. [link] [comments] |
A site I only used to log in to with my facebook account had a data breach - should I do anything? Posted: 04 Dec 2018 12:52 AM PST Quora had just had a data breach which they informed me about by email. I never created an account and only logged in using my facebook account. How compromised am I? Should I do anything or am I safe (beside the hacker/s having my name and such which I can do nothing about)? [link] [comments] |
Suggestions: Disk Cloning Software for Free Posted: 04 Dec 2018 04:36 AM PST Hi all, I am looking to clone HDD disk for a friend who is moving to an SSD. The HDD is 1TB and based on his current usage and projected usage, I am installing a 250GB SSD. The Free software available either offers a "Summary" or will not Clone to a smaller disk (even though the usage is under both the Source and Destination Disks). I have tried EaseUS and Macrium Reflect, both do not do the job with the specifications I want. Other than creating a Linux Dual-Boot and using DD, do you have any recommendations of Cloning software that are free in which I can clone to a smaller disk? Thankyou! [link] [comments] |

Is there a way to save Safari Books Online live video tutorials to my laptop? Posted: 04 Dec 2018 04:33 AM PST I'll be swapping over my account soon, so will lose all the videos that I've accumulated. Short of running each and capturing the screen and audio with camtasia in real time, is there a better way? I thought of youtube-dl but it doesn't support them. [link] [comments] |
Purchased a new RTX 2080, but games are crashing? Posted: 04 Dec 2018 12:43 AM PST Hey guys, I've recently upgraded from an ATI R9 290 to an RTX 2080 for my computer, and I've noticed games won't pay for 10 minutes without crashing straight to desktop. I bought the RTX 2080 via Amazon (sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L), and it was delivered a few days ago. When it was delivered, it was clear that the original box had been slightly tampered with - i.e. there was no protective cellophane, there were visible tears across the box, no BFV (which is currently sold with every RTX card, and the tamper-proof sticker was pretty terrible (i.e. I could peel it off, and reapply if I wanted). Anyway, I thought nothing of it because the card looked in good condition. After installing the card, it worked a dream. I installed all the necessary nVidia drivers such as GeForce Experience and nVidia Control Panel. I had a super quick test on some games, and the results were incredible. I'm pretty sure that I had played GTAV for an hour or so with no issues? Anyway, I've been away these past few days, and now I'm playing games with the card. This is where I've noticed a problem. I play a lot of Rainbow Six Siege. Prior to the upgrade, the game was absolutely faultless, however with the RTX 2080, the game won't last a single round without crashing to desktop. I had a look at the Uplay error logs, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I figured that maybe it was something to do with the game. I then tried playing GTAV. Whilst it lasts a lot longer than Rainbow Six, it also crashes to desktop after approximately 10 minutes of playtime. Now the alarm bells are ringing. I've been playing around with the settings, reinstalling display drivers etc to see if I can solve the problem, however I've experienced approx 3 BSODs during that period (like whilst rendering video footage via CUDA). I've been keeping an eye on the 2080 during a crash (at 22:17:57) via GPU-Z , but I can't see anything out of the ordinary. I've also tested it with FurMark, and again, haven't noticed anything our of the ordinary. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the display drivers (417.22) via DDU, but this hasn't helped. Please help! Specs: Ryzen Threadripper 2950X, 32GB G-Skillz @ 3600MHz, Aorus X399 Xtreme, nVidia RTX 2080, Corsair RM 1000x [link] [comments] |

Stuttering on game that has 100+ fps? Posted: 04 Dec 2018 04:27 AM PST I just built a new rig, and ran a benchmark on World in Conflict. Average frames on Ultra High settings was around 100. Pretty unbelievable. The only issue is, when the camera pans, the graphics stutter. Any idea what's causing this? [link] [comments] |

PC stopped recognizing headphones out of blue Posted: 04 Dec 2018 04:21 AM PST I purchased Scorpion HG9035 (Marvo) two months ago. Headphones worked perfectly fine and sound was amazing. Today I was playing some Escape From Tarkov and making some food. I hid my character in bushes and went to the kitchen for 2minutes, came back, put my headphones on and no sound. It has happened to me before, sometimes I misplace my headphones by the keyboard and it presses "mute" macro so I thought it was it, but nope. Sound is on. Then I checked the volume, still nothing. After finishing the game without any sound I restarted the pc. Still nothing. Checked the audio manager and it does not show that I have headphones or microphone connected at all. Keep in mind that headphones have the lights so electricity does go through it. FYI it has thick USB cable, not an audio jack. I tried switching usb ports, messing with audio manager and device settings to see if there was any problem with that. Even updated Nvidia drivers but nothing helped. When I connect headphones in pc it does not show the pop up-device connected either. After a while I noticed that I smell burnt rubber by the left ear (left ear has cable, volume control and mic connected) I have no idea what happened. I could smell something like that earlier If I recall correctly but I am not sure. What should I do? Tldr: Headphones suddenly stopped working, lights work but PC won't recognize it. I think I smell burnt rubber on the left ear piece [link] [comments] |
New build, fans power up but no display/output Posted: 04 Dec 2018 04:17 AM PST So I've got this new build, specs below: I have a new m.2 SSD too but I've removed that in an attempt to troubleshoot. What happens: I power it on from a completely cold boot and it powers up, fans spin up along with HDD's and the CPU_LED flashes red for a moment then everything powers down, wait a couple of seconds and then it all powers up, goes past the CPU_LED, then sits on the yellow/orange forever. There is no display output, my keyboard doesn't power up but curiously the optical sensor in a cheap mouse I have lying around lights up. Troubleshooting: I've removed literally everything apart from fans and power cables from of the mobo, I've tried no RAM sticks, trying one stick at a time in each slot powering fully down and clearing the CMOS between each new try, reseating the CPU and trying it all again. I've checked the socket and no pins appear to be damaged or bent. I've also run the MemOK! thing and it just blinks the same colour for a while, then turns solid. Video of the process from a cold boot I'm all out of ideas and unfortunately it's looking like either CPU or mobo. I just tested the RAM in my work PC and it's fine, all 16GB and both sticks detected. Any help is most welcomed, thanks :) [link] [comments] |

Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3 boot loop Posted: 04 Dec 2018 03:51 AM PST I have a problem with my Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3 (Rev 1.0), the computer that the motherboard used to be a part of went haywire overnight. When you power on the computer it turns on the PSU and the CPU cooler but they run for about 2 seconds and power down, then repeat. There is no POST beep, there is nothing displayed on the monitor. I isolated the problem to the motherboard itself since I tried exchanging everything else: PSU, CPU, RAM and even pulled the motherboard out of the case to make sure nothing is shorting out. I ran into similar issues with Gigabyte motherboards in the past but all of them were thanks to the primary BIOS getting corrupted. But now that I try the tricks with the power/reset buttons, it doesn't do anything and the problem persists. Does anyone have any ideas how could I fix this motherboard or what pins I might need to short to force a BIOS re-flash. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Dec 2018 03:34 AM PST First had the issue where my laptop wouldn't turn off, instead it would just reboot itself. After a quick search I learnt this was most likely due to a systems crash, so I found a solution saying to disable hibernation and quick start up, so I did. Now it won't turn back on and refers me to the recovery manager, which has done nothing. Help, I have a deadline TOMORROW. Ffs [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Dec 2018 03:31 AM PST So I have had this problem for a few days. Windows keeps compressing all files on desktop! When this first happened I just noticed the blue arrows on every icon and after some googling I found out that the files have been compressed. Then I noticed that the "Desktop" folder on my C: drive has the "compress to save disk space" option turned on. I turned it off and then it uncompressed and everything was back to normal. Then, about five minutes ago I noticed that they were compressed again. How do I stop this? Should I be worried? My guess is that this is some kind of a space saving thing in windows because my C: drive is basically full (less than 7gb available out of 120gb). I think I'll start emptying useless stuff from the drive if you don't have any better ideas Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |

Parblo coast 10 graphic monitor refuses to function as a monitor Posted: 04 Dec 2018 03:27 AM PST Specs: I connected it just like the manual says (it has 1 wire with 2 USBs on 1 end and 1 on the other, 2 USBs plug into the PC and 1 into the tablet itself) and installed 2 drivers (Digitizer and DisplayLink) in the order that is described in the manual (DisplayLink first). Widnows recognizes it as a second display and lets me drag it around and change it's settings in Settings -> Display. I can access it with a mouse and if i use OBS or discord streaming i can select second monitor with second Desktop. The pen also works and has levels of pressure. Sorry if my english is bad, i'm not a native speaker. [link] [comments] |
Having problems with my FPS with all games Posted: 04 Dec 2018 03:16 AM PST This only started happening yesterday and i'm not sure if it was a windows update or a graphics driver update that did this but whenever I launch a game now the FPS is dramatically lower then what it usually is, for example: If I launched overwatch with my current settings (mostly high) i'd get a smooth 80-90 frames no matter what, but now I can't even break 20 on the main menu. does anyone know what could be going on? I haven't installed or downloaded anything sketchy and i've already tried re-installing the graphics drivers and checking windows for updates multiple times, any help would be greatly appreciated!
