Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:54 PM PST So i have two monitors (144hz 1080p and a 60hz 1080p) I use the 144hz monitor for gaming and the 60hz for music/stream chat and my internet browser. But when any windows is open on the 60hz monitor,k the 144hz monitor locks at what fells like >60hz. And when the second monitor has everything minimised, the 144hz monitor fells like a 144hz monitor. Is there a way to fix this? [link] [comments] |
Amazon Prime vs Netflix - Massive lag spikes Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:53 PM PST So I ran a few tests using PingPlotter, comparing Amazon Prime and Netflix with both running at their highest capable video quality settings. Check out the two results over a time period of 10 minutes.
For reference, I live in Sydney Australia. Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing from any streaming services? I totally understand its pre-loading the next segment of the episode etc, but Amazon Prime seems to cause massive issues with the bandwidth compared to Netflix. [link] [comments] |
Multiple HDMI ports not working Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:19 PM PST I have an HP computer that has 3 HDMI ports. One is on the graphics card itself. The other two are down lower on the pc. Around where all the extra usb plugs are. Im trying to add a second monitor, but the lower two ports dont work. Ive tested both monitors and cables on the main hdmi port and they both work great. But nothing happens when i plug it into the bottom two. Windows 10 doesn't acknowledge any second monitor. Are the ports disabled? Can i enable them somehow? [link] [comments] |
When and how will a 1080 Ti use DDR vs QDR? GDDR5X question Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:01 AM PST So, I'm a bit curious. I read that GDDR5X has the option to use eithe DDR OR QDR, but what I don't understand is when it uses one or the other, or even what difference it makes, especially when it comes to gaming performance. So, what's really the difference between QDR and DDR? When does it use them, what's the point? And how does it affect gaming? Why an option, why not just only run QDR (if that's better)? There's so much detail that tech people on Youtube and around the net don't go into, yet it'd be very nice to to know, especially for someone like me who want to learn more about hardware. Upgraded CPU + Mobo, worse gaming performance? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:38 PM PST Yeah, this sounds kind of stupid, but I've upgraded my 6700k + Z170 mobo to an 8700k + Z370 mobo. Rest of build is the exact same, but my all around gaming performance is much much worse than it was before. Some games like Overwatch run better than before, with some unusual stuttering every now and then. Forza Horizon 4 @ 1440p high settings used to run at ~120 fps consistently, now runs at ~60 fps and it's a stuttering mess. Black Ops 4 is about the same, @1440p all low in Blackout mode used to run ~100fps, now ~50-60 and extremely choppy. Sometimes drops to around 30. All temps are fine, no overclocking, fully wiped drivers with DDU and reinstalled, fresh windows 10 install, installed latest bios version on mobo, 90-100%GPU and 60%+ CPU usage depending on game, benchmarks seem fairly normal but I can link them. I really have no clue how to fix this and it's been bugging me all day. I don't really want to go back to the parts I had before because I'm not sure the new parts would be fully refunded if returned. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. how to know if a url someone gave me is legit? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:22 PM PST like if someone gave me "www.reddit.com/blahblahblah..." and told me to go there, how do i know if it's real? edit: what if it's a download link? a file starts downloading when i click it (a file i requested, however) [link] [comments] |
Are tech companies legally permitted to alter your products performance without your consent? Posted: 01 Dec 2018 01:17 AM PST Are tech companies allowed to just access and modify your device at their own whim without you knowing, much less agreeing to a terms of use change? I thought Apple got into legal trouble for doing this with regards to throttling phone performance without disclosure? It doesn't seem ethical, or like it should be legal for anyone to modify the performance of your device without you expressly "agreeing" to the change. I've had a couple of device breaking stealth updates made to some of my devices. Is there any recourse, or do consumers just have to take it when a company decides to make an undisclosed change to your electronic? [link] [comments] |
Please help me. Microphone is picking up suspected trucker radio. Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:28 PM PST Ok so I was just playing minecraft with my friends and all of the sudden, my microphone started like picking up frequencies of other people talking. None of the programs in my sound mixer are showing movement when it picks it up on my microphone. I can't hear it, but my friends on discord can hear it. As far as I am aware, nothing happened that would have caused this, and the occurrence was very sudden and I didn't do anything that could have triggered it, other than launching minecraft a few minutes before. Someone please help! I use a Blue Yeti with the VoiceMeeter program. [link] [comments] |
Laptop fell off bed - charger bent inside charging port. Posted: 01 Dec 2018 12:57 AM PST What the fuck do I do? I was abruptly woken up to my laptop falling off my bed and hitting a glass. The charger bent inside the charging port, causing plastic to the side of the laptop to crack and a piece of plastic to partially come out of the charging port. I cannot pull my charger out. I think it's a Lenovo IdeaPad Z500. [link] [comments] |
Just updated windows and my computer is broke Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:26 PM PST So last night I updated windows with 2 Gigabytes on my computer. I turned it on and the update took 45 minutes. My screen is now completely black with a pop up that says C:/Windows/System32/config/systemprofile/desktop is unavailable. The only thing is an Amoy recycle bin that doesn't respond, and the windows button on my keyboard does nothing. All my schoolwork, game progress, and Sony Vegas was on there. How do I fix this I'm literally shaking please help [link] [comments] |

PCI Port and GPU died at the same time? Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:30 AM PST I was playing assassins creed odyssey on my GTX 760. An hour or so after playing, my display turned off and my computer (Windows 10) made the sound when you insert a device via usb or something. It was unresponsive so I clicked the restart button on my case. It beeped (first time i ever hear my case beep) and I smelled a weird burning smell. After that I had no video output from the GPU. So I wake up in the morning and I went to my friends house, where he tried several other cards on my PC. None of their fans started up even though they were working on his computers. I have confirmed my processor is not damaged as I was able to get output via intel integrated graphics connected with a VGA cable (my mobo doesn't have HDMI). While I can pretty much conclude the GTX 760 is fried because that didn't work on any his computers, is it possible the GPU fried the PCI port with it? Or did the PCI port fry the GPU? How do I know? Is this common? What happened? I'm really scared because I don't have the money to buy a new motherboard (it's an old Intel H81 from what I googled) and I can't seem to find out what exactly the problem is. Can someone give me their input? This is terrifying. Thank you so much [link] [comments] |
Flashing Light on my Gtx 1080ti Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:26 AM PST What does this mean exactly? Kinda has me worried, the card is maybe 6 months old. Seems that there is two LED lights on either side one is static and the other has just this morning started pulsing Here's a short 5 min video in the null of the morning maddness Any ideas? Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:23 AM PST I've added storage to my build over the years and the oldest drives are now about 6 years old. Pretty much everything now runs from SSDs, but I've noticed occasionally that things freeze and a hard drive spins up. These hard drives are only for archives (and otherwise non-program files). So why does windows feel the need to spin up these drives for unrelated tasks? It's really annoying and I was thinking about getting a NAS so that I can remove the drives from my PC, but is this my only option? (NAS are pretty expensive - even just the enclosures) My Specs are: Windows 10, 32GB RAM, Ryzen 1700, 768GB in SSD and 8TB in HDD [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:28 PM PST Morning all, As the title says I am experiencing bad lag spikes whilst using a new wireless dongle. I have the latest drivers installed and have tried all fixed I could find on Google and YouTube. I previously had a powerline adapter which I had no lag spikes with. I have ran jitter tests and speedtests and everything seems to be ok, however the problem seems to start when gaming Has anybody got it have used the same adapter and experienced the same problems? If so, did you find a fix? Many thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
My little brothers new computer wont start Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:12 AM PST So just a few days ago, my brother got his first computer. It worked just fine until after about a day of using it. He had connected everything to the motherboard (with everything I mean the monitor, mouse, keyboard, headset, etc) instead of the graphics card and he had played a few intense games on the computer. The computer blue-screened for a few seconds and then it wouldn't start. It wouldn't start for a while until me and my dad took out the graphics card and one of the two 8gb RAM sticks. After the computer started up, we restarted it and started it up again. Then we turned it off and connected the second RAM stick and the computer once again started up. We thought it was somehow magically fixed, so we put the graphics card in and suddenly the computer wouldn't start. After about an hour or two of trying to get it to start, it just wouldn't work. I have searched through everything I could find but nothing worked so now I am currently rebuilding the computer out-of-case and I'll try to see if I can get it to work. I was wondering if you know what's wrong with it? Is the CPU fried or is the motherboard broken. Maybe one of the RAM sticks is broken somehow or is there something wrong with the graphics card (1050 ti)? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Mapping a network drive over the internet to record an HD transport stream from US to Australia? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:37 PM PST So here's the deal.
However, recently my internet connection here in Australia has been upgraded and is now very fast. The upload speed in the United States and download speed in Australia is now so fast that the amount of time it would take to transfer a 3 hour football game is significantly less than 3 hours. Now what I'm wondering is.
One interesting thing is that I can actually watch the transport stream while it's recording, even seconds after it starts, I've done this on the computer in America, so I know it's possible.. so conceivably I could start recording on the computer in America, then start playing it back with only a few seconds delay here in Australia. Is something like this feasible? Both computers are on Windows 10 Pro. [link] [comments] |
Watching on USA Network SYFY Not working Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:23 PM PST I wanted to watch goblet of fire on the usa network website so I entered my provider info and tried to watch. Even though I just watched other harry potter movies just yesterday on the site it doesnt work anymore. There is no play button, just an image in the video player. It's not an issue with my provider because it was like this before I even verified my provider info on the site. How do I fix this? Things I've tried: restarting obviously, clearing history and cache, disabling pop ups and ad block, enabling flash on the site, enabling unsandboxed plug-in access [link] [comments] |
TV/Blu-ray player constantly cutting out Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:08 AM PST Hi, not sure if anyone here deals with TV issues but I've been having an ongoing problem I can't figure out. My setup includes a Vizio 4K HDTV, a Samsung ultra HD Blu-ray player, and an Apple TV 4K. I was having the problem where any time I was watching something, it would "cut out" pretty regularly where the screen would go black for a brief second and there would be no audio or video. I had some cheap HDMI cords I got at Sam's Club and after googling some remedies, I decided to get some pricier HDMI cords on Amazon. Since getting the new cords, the Apple TV never cuts out, but the Blu-ray player still cuts out all the time. Needless to say, this is pretty annoying and I'm at my wit's end with this issue and no sure how to fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:20 PM PST When i turned my computer on today the internet speed was very slow (games download at ~50kbps and all browsers are super slow) but the internet is only slow on my computer, everything else works normally. Nothing about my wifi has changed at all and its been working fine for 4 to 5 years now with almost no issues. Nothing special happened, no windows updates, no driver changes (still apparently up to date) and i cant figure out what it could be. Is my wifi card just going bad or something? [link] [comments] |
My Mac Pro is driving me crazy Posted: 01 Dec 2018 02:59 AM PST Can someone tell me whats the issue with my Mac Pro 3,1? I have tried everything. ALL of my fans are at max ALL THE TIME (can be controlled via software tho). Sensors are 100% fine, just did a reinstall on 10.11 which should also reinstall the firmware, but appereantly it did nothing! WHAT DO I HECKIN DO? Controlling via software is hard af bcuz I'm changing OSes frequently. The fans just started randomly doing this at around late summer 2018. Everything else in the computer is working fine. Btw, main drive is running High Sierra Here's what I have tried so far: - PRAM/NVRAM resets - SMC resets - Reinstalled OS X El Cap - Tried reinstalling the fans -Swapped GPUs and RAM. No change. - All LEDs are fine and doesn't show anything unusual up on bootup - Repatched main drive [link] [comments] |
USB-Gamecontrollers settings crashing (Windows Shell Common Dll stopped responding) Posted: 01 Dec 2018 02:58 AM PST My USB controllers settings takes about 2 minutes to open up, and then when it opens up it crashes after 5 seconds. Then a windows pops up with "Windows Shell Common Dll stopped responding" I have been searching for a solution for a long while now, and haven't found any solutions yet.. Though I maybe think that it is a problem with my Human Interface Devices, which is filled up with seemingly unknown devices (??) Click for a video of the problem Screenshot of my Human Interface Devices list Thanks everyone that can help me! Specs:

Overclocked my monitor from 75 Hertz to 120 Hertz, how do I get rid of the 'out of range' message? Posted: 01 Dec 2018 02:47 AM PST Hi, I overclocked my LG 34UM68 up to 120 Hertz with CRU. It runs great & I can't see any frame skipping. I want to keep it at this refresh rate, but there's this massive 'out of range' message in the middle of my screen. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
