Things I miss from my Onepus One

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 07:22 AM PST

So, current user of the Oneplus 6. I have used my Oneplus One until my battery was quite done, about a year ago. Then switched for a little time to some cheap chinese crap, to finally upgrade to the Oneplus 6. There however are a few thing I do really miss from my cyanogen OS Oneplus One. I've listed them down below:

    I miss:

    - The equalizer (which also let me tune sound on bluetooth)

    - The option where you could hold down volume up ot go to the next song and holding volume would let you go back to your previous song

    - The option to change font to whatever font you liked

    - The option to change brightness by just sliding over the notificationbar

    - The option to get your phone to sleep by double tapping the notificationbar

Can someone explain to me why all of this had to be gone? I mean, not being able to change my font to any font I like feels like quite a let down. All of the other options do not interfere with any current options in Pie as far as I'm concerned..

    OnePlus 6T Official Tempered Glass

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 10:01 AM PST

[Review] OnePlus 6T review from long time iPhone user (9 Years).

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 06:34 PM PST

Right, so I've been an Apple user for 9 years now. All the way from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone X. I've owned pretty much every model except for the 5s. As for Android, I've had short stints with the OS, most notably the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Sensation XE that I've used for longer periods.

Android had always enticed me as I enjoy tinkering with my devices, but the stability, user friendliness as well as sheer performance kept me pulling back to iOS and its devices. Starting from around 2015 I started giving android a shot again (Samsung Galaxy S5, Nexus 6P, Samsung Salaxy S7) but kept ending up returning them in the 14 day grace period every single time as the iPhones just simply felt better.

Well, that all changed this year. After having the X for a year, I just felt fatigued with iOS. Don't get me wrong, it works, its damn fast and the hardware it runs on is amazing, but I'm just bored of it. So instead of spending 1300 on the XS Max (excuse me, Apple?), I went for the OP6T in that absolutely magnificent Thunder Purple color. The Note 9 crossed my mind, but every Samsung device had disappointed me thus far, and after toying with it in-store, the really annoying curved edge glare just made me dismiss it entirely.

So let's start off with what I like:

    1. The Screen
Hot damn its a beautiful screen. That 6.4" AMOLED panel without being oversaturated is just a godsend. Coming from the 5.8" iPhone X its definitely an upgrade. While I'm completely done with notches in general, the OP6T's notch is almost something I'd call "elegant" as a solution. Its tiny, not as intrusive, and packs everything I need it do. Well, almost everything, but we'll get to that later. Luckily, I can turn the Notch off whenever I feel like it, and while the pixels aren't entirely the same color as the notch, it is by far a welcome option. The fact that the notch is so small also allows for a lot more notifications and status bar icons to show.

Additionally, the UD Fingerprint Scanner has worked essentially flawlessly for me. What I did was set it up in the dark with the Wave effect for both thumbs and I barely get a read error.

    2. Battery Life
Okay, this part legitimately surprised me. None of my previous Android devices were able to live up to my iPhones in terms of battery life. The OP6T is the first to actually not only equal, but also beat my, similar generation, iPhone. Admittedly, I did install a custom Kernel which improved battery life even more (Elemental-X through EX Kernel Manager), but still, its been really good. I've been getting 6 to 7 hours of SoT and well, this battery screenshot should speak for itself. I use my phone a lot, especially with games and reddit, and I'm truly amazed how the battery life is.

    3. Oxygen OS
This. Is. Smooth. While I did detect hiccups during scrolling and tapping on the Note 9 (Exynos 9810) and Mate 20 Pro (Kirin 980) in-store, the OP6T has none of it. I was genuinely surprised at how many features are still packed in the OS while keeping it running so smooth. Heck, I would still be using the OP Launcher if it allowed me more control over rows and columns.

Stuff like Multi-window YouTube/Reddit. Being able to "Lock" Apps from closing. The better-than-pie Gesture controls.
    4. Fast Charging
Okay, what the actual hell OnePlus. How is this possible without completely frying my phone. For the first time in my life, I don't worry about battery life at the start of the day as I can legitimately charge it for 30% in what, 10 minutes? Probably less. I already had a fast charger at home which I used for my iPhone X, but the OP6T takes it to another level.

    5. Hardware toggle for Mute, Vibrate and Ring.
Having used an iPhone, I loved the Mute/Ring switch. The OP6T takes it to another level by adding a third layer. I constantly use it to swap between the three modes and its such a simple and efficient implementation that I wish all Android devices would copy. I legitimately can't say I could live without it.

Unfortunately, no device is perfect, and thus I also have some complaints. Fortunately, they are not many. Lets get to them:

    1. No Stereo Speakers
I didn't think It'd be that big of an issue, as I've only had Stereo Speakers for a year. But I most definitely miss the feature. The bottom-firing speaker is loud, and clear, but when I'm watching YouTube or Netflix or even play games in bed, I definitely notice the lack of the front-firing speaker. I've tried the mod on XDA but it doesn't seem to perform all that great, while also breaking speakerphone capabilities so I've uninstalled it again.

    2. No Lift To Wake (Face Unlock)
What I've gotten used to with my iPhone X, is that I pick it up and before I need to interact with my device, the device is unlocked. I have an immediate view of my notifications and could swipe up to unlock. Right now I can lift to have the Ambient Display with notification icons, but no actual text. I also still have to move my thumb on the UDFR or press the power button to use Face Unlock. In both cases I can't read my notifcations until I swipe down on the home screen.

    3. Camera
This is a bit nit-picky, as I do come from an iPhone, but the camera isn't stellar, neither did I really expect it to be at this price-range. Its most definitely serviceable and after picking up the GCam port (1.2 beta) its been even further improved, but I can definitely tell the difference between my "old" X shots and the 6T's. Its by no means a dealbreaker, but I'll probably grab my SO's 7 Plus if we're out and need to take some nice quick shots. Night Mode is great though on both stock and GCam. So that's definitely something the iPhone can't really compete with.

    Conclusion
I love it. Of course no device is perfect and I do have some, albeit minor, gripes with the device, but its so much more positive than it could ever be negative in terms of experience. This is the first phone that does justice to what, in my opinion, an Android flagship should be. I'd rate it a solid 9/10!

Switching from a Pixel 3 to OnePlus 6/6T: My Story

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 12:39 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share my recent experience switching phones from iOS to Android and how that relates to OnePlus.

After nesting in the Apple ecosystem for about 8 years, I decided to switch to Android when upgrading this Fall/Winter due to the price of the iPhone XS being too high to stomach and the iPhone XR not being my cup of tea.

Due to briefly using phones by the likes of Samsung and all in the past, I was not a huge fan of UIs like Touchwiz etc. so the main contenders for what I desired, which was a clean stock Android experience, were OnePlus and Google. Due to budget constraints not being an issue and the wow factor associated with the Google Pixel series' line of cameras, I decided to go with the Pixel 3 128 GB (not the XL as I was fairly happy with the smaller sizes of Apple phones like the iPhone 6S and did not really wish to go for the phablet sizes that have now become the norm).

And that is where the trouble began.

The first Google Pixel 3 that I received was prone to overheating, especially when I attempted to use it whilst charging. I also noticed that it would run intensive games fine initially but eventually would begin to choke performance-wise. I ran some benchmarks to see if there was an issue and lo and behold, it would score poorly, even relative to other Pixel 3 devices.

The second Pixel 3 that I got had dead pixels near the center of the display. Unacceptable for a $900/£839 phone, especially since I never had any dead pixels with my previous iPhones.

The third Pixel also had dead pixels. Go figure.

The fourth one had none of the issues with my previous units and I was actually happy with it. But then I noticed that the battery life was terrible and while using the USB-C to 3.5 mm audio jack dongle, especially during commuting, the connection was quite loose, felt flimsy, and like it would only get worse from there.

At this point, I have just decided to give up on the Pixel 3 as for a $900/£839 phone, there have just been way too many QC issues. For one, I don't want to try a fifth unit, especially since three of my units came from different sellers, all endorsed by Google. Don't get me wrong: I wanted to like this phone and in some respects do like it but the aforementioned issues plus other potential ones that have been reported, such as aggressive RAM management due to 4 GB of ram /+ poor software coding by Google and poor audio quality when recording video just do not allow me to justify purchasing or recommending this phone to anyone at this stage.

For lack of a better option and due to the appeal of the product itself, in steps the OnePlus 6/6T.

It does not appear to have the same issues as the Pixel series (from what I have researched, the Pixel 3 was not the only lineup with issues at/around launch: the Pixel 2, especially the XL, had major issues such as with the screen) and has better hardware specs (same CPU and GPU but faster, double the RAM, much bigger battery etc.) while miraculously costing a lot less at $579/£529. Now you might ask: why didn't I get the OnePlus 6/6T in the first place? My response to that is chiefly that I preferred the size of the regular Pixel 3. However, at this point due to my severe disappointment with the Pixel 3, the OnePlus 6/6T is the only option that fits my criteria and I will just have to stomach the bigger size of the device (I do not have small hands but I prefer to have a device that I can use one-handed if possible).

I will keep this post updated once I receive my OnePlus phone, probably the 6T because of the Thunder Purple option although I would be willing to consider the 6 because of the headphone jack. If any of you have a recommendation of 6 over 6T or vice versa, please do let me know.

Thanks for reading! I never post on Reddit but felt strongly about my experience so apologies for bad formatting/not a great post.

tl;dr looked for a stock Android phone, went through 4 Pixel 3 devices, all with various issues, before settling on the OnePlus due to better specs and less of a lottery.

Bricked my OP3. Went through the entire unbrick tutorial and caught a snag at the end (picture attached). PLEASE HELP!

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 11:08 AM PST

    Hello all,

I was suppose to trade in my OP3, so I went to unroot it and bring it back to stock, but I bricked it.

I went through the entire process using the unbrick tool here and managed to get through every step without any snags.

I unplugged my phone and turned it back on and I got this screen when it tried to enter boot: https://imgur.com/a/niyuR0Z

Anyone have any advice? I am pretty lost and need to get this phone back in working order.

    Thanks.

I received a DASH car charger from a guy in New Jersey... but I ordered through the official website.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 03:13 PM PST

I placed an order on the US Oneplus website during the black friday deals. Two weird things:

    - My order came from a guy with a Chinese name in New Jersey... I googled the address and nothing about Oneplus came up. Must be some kind of regional warehouse.

    - I got the car charger which still has the name DASH on it. Which makes me thing they tried to sell all of their DASH branded items before the end of the year... which is fine with me, it was a good deal.

Side note: also got the type-c earbuds... they sound awesome.

    Screenshot question OnePlus 6t

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 05:58 PM PST

Is there anyway to have it so if I take a screenshot and crop it to have the phone only save the cropped portion instead of both the crop and the full screen capture? I had this function on my s8+ and I loved it. It's only a minor inconvenience to have to delete the full capture but thought I would see if there's a way

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 04:41 PM PST

I just got my new OnePlus 6t, and I love it! It bothers me though, that when I'm using Spotify and my phone is in the lock screen it changes my wallpaper to a cropped album cover! Can I turn this off?

    Thanks!

    I’m thinking of getting a 6T but I have a concern.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 08:22 PM PST

So my sister recently got a oneplus 6 and me as an iPhone 8 user tried for a couple of minutes and I loved it. I used to own a nexus 5 so I'm familiar with android. Any ways after many hours of research I now want a 6T but there is one problem I had with the 6. HORRIBLE haptics. Being used to the excellent vibration motor that was present in my iPhone 6S and the even better one in my 8 has spoiled me. My question is are the haptics the same on the 6T same as the 6 or did they do something? Anything at all?

Is there any way to make the navigation bar black in all apps but transparent on the homebscreen/app drawer?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 07:11 AM PST

The nav bar being white in some places and black in others kinda annoys me. It's inconsistent when the colour changes, like in whatsapp when you're on the chats page it's black but when you're in a chat it's white.

I'm currently trying out the new gestures but I'd like to know if there was any way to make the buttons/pill black everywhere and transparent on the home screen. I've tried doing this with an app (navbar apps), and while it does make the nav bar completely black, it does so on the home screen too... Or maybe I missed a setting. Maybe I'm nitpicking too much, but your help is appreciated.

Is it just me or do you have you click the volume button multiple times to Increase or decrease? Not a big deal but kind of annoying. Two days in the phone im thinking if switching is my way to go before time runs out 😭.

Has anyone successfully rooted their 6T? (Issues with the XDA article.)

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 12:40 PM PST

The XDA article on rooting the 6T links to a blue_spark kernel. None of the download links on the blue_spark page have the name TWRP in them. According to the the XDA article it should. Instead, the files read something like "blu_spark_r56-oos-pie_op6-6t_9e9a352.zip".

    I did try

    fastboot boot blu_spark_r56-oos-pie_op6-6t_9e9a352.zip

    but it returned

could not load 'blu_spark_r56-oos-pie_op6-6t_9e9a352.zip': no error

Is this tutorial wrong? Is there a file somewhere that is actually blu_spark's TWRP? Is the world flat? Am I nuts?

    Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Transfering images from a OnePlus 5 to a Macbook

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 02:13 PM PST

So i just broke my One Plus 5's screen, and i was looking to transfer all of my pictures to a hard drive before getting a new one. All of the photos are already uploaded to my google account, but my screenshots and downloaded photos aren't, and i don't have the option do so, as the top 1/3 of the screen is completely unusable and that's where the setting is. I tried uploading it to my laptop, but it would only transfer the photos. Any ideas of what i could do?

Screen Flickers on Lockscreen at lowest brightness on 6T

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 05:29 PM PST

This seems to be a new issue, possibly attached to the 9.0.6 update. But I've noticed today that on my lockscreen before using the fingerprint scanner the screen Flickers when notifications are showing. Not sure if it's a screen issue or software issue. Can any of you reproduce this? If it's a widespread issue I'll open a support ticket through OnePlus, I might regardless.

    What happened to "notification channels"?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 04:58 PM PST

On Oreo I had an option to set notification channels. For example, NBC News was able to send notifications to the notification shade, but did not play a tone or vibrate. I just got my 6T and cannot find that setting. Do we not have it?

I feel like this topic is a really underated issue. The Instagram stories on oneplus 6 is heavily cropped by the edges and makes it super annoying. Really hope they can fix this.
