I somehow created folder named ... and i have no idea how to delete it. Posted: 26 Nov 2018 02:11 PM PST Not sure how, but i managed to create folder with just three dots in its name. This Folder behaves like level from game 'Portal'. I am in a NewFolder that contains 3 random files and this "..." Subfolder. Current path is like this: "E:\New folder\" I double click on that ... folder but instead of content of ... folder, I see content of NewFolder. But the path in the windows is now "E:\New folder\...\..." Strangely enough, this path is visible like this only when the breadcrumbs is displayed. If directly click to the path window, only "E:\New folder\" is shown. Hopefully that was enough info for someone to tell me how to get rid of that folder. I am not opposed to delete NewFolder as well. TY! [link] [comments]
Why was the Windows folder in XP/2000 in uppercase (WINDOWS)? Posted: 26 Nov 2018 09:33 AM PST It has always bugged me how the Windows folder in 2000 and XP have the folder in uppercase instead of it being sentence case. From Vista and onwards it has been fixed to being sentence case (Windows). So why was it always uppercase in XP? [link] [comments]

Windows 10 October Update wiped my data, Microsoft says they can't help. What can I do? Posted: 26 Nov 2018 08:49 AM PST Hi, today at my office one of my colleague came back from her vacation only to discover her computer ran october update by itself. After update her computer was behaving like it was straight out of box, asked if it was for buisness use etc. All of profiles and programs were completely wiped, I contacted Microsoft in my country but very nice lady said that they couldn't do anything. I tried to recover data with Recuva but all of the files are damages. Do you guys have any tips? A lot of those files were very important documents, we are really stressed out about the situation. We have some backup, but whole situation is quaite unpleasant. Any tips will help! Thank you! [link] [comments]

Audio doesn't work properly unless left/right balance uneven? Posted: 26 Nov 2018 12:59 PM PST So if I have my balance set to normal, audio doesn't work properly, like I can only hear vocals on songs and no instrumental. If I move the balance, I can hear everything but, its off balance so don't want to leave it like that. Anyone else had this problem? Got no idea how to fix. [link] [comments]

Computer Techs - Expert Input Needed Posted: 26 Nov 2018 03:47 PM PST I have an Asus K52JT Laptop with Windows 7. I spoke with ASUS about upgrading to Windows 10. They said doing so would cause issues because they don't have drivers for this model with Windows 10, but they said Windows 8 would be ok. Are they just trying to get me to buy a new product or are they telling me the truth? I did a web search, and found a few sites offering K52JT drivers for Windiws 10, but don't know if those are safe or not. Do any techs have any good advice for me? [link] [comments]
Help required regarding configuring the Bluetooth of my laptop. Posted: 26 Nov 2018 04:28 AM PST i recently made the switch to wireless headphones and while they're very convenient I'm unable to use them to talk and listen at the same time, whenever i turn the mic on either there's no audio output or else the output gets highly distorted. Is there any workaround for this situation? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 Kernel Security Check Failure Posted: 26 Nov 2018 03:11 PM PST Hey guys, running Windows 10 (version 17-something) on an Asus laptop and constantly get this BSoD. I can't download WDK to even open the minidump. If I get it and zip it can anyone read it for me and tell me what's causing it? I feel like it's a Line 6 driver for an ASIO device but it's not even plugged in. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Fresh W10 Home Install (Need help keeping game files) Posted: 26 Nov 2018 02:46 PM PST So I'm going to download W10 ISO onto a flashdrive today and do a clean install to hopefully sort out some issues, but I have a couple of questions first. I want to avoid having to download all of my games again (~300-400GB.) W10 and apps are on a 256GB Nvme drive (C:) and my games are stored on a 1TB SSD (D:). My first question is, what is the simplest way to avoid wiping my storage drive during a clean install? Should I completely remove the D: from my laptop during the clean install and reinsert it after? My second question is, I know some important game files are stored on the windows drive, will these be automatically downloaded again when I go to launch the game? Not sure if it matters but the laptop is an AW17 R5 (1070/8750H) If this isnt the best method, could you explain to me in layman's terms what needs to be done to avoid having to download all of my games again. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Nov 2018 02:19 PM PST Something popped up telling me that "windows sytem is damaged." And that it would delete all files in a random number of seconds. Is that malware or? I just opened the computer for the first tinge and was in the process of getting security. I'm not good and computers and now I'm not sure what to do. Freaking out a bit. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Nov 2018 10:21 AM PST I am currently trying to clean up my taskbar which is filled with apps including chrome and microsoft edge. I was curious if there is a way that I can keep these apps available in the taskbar without having them show up on the desktop. I really want to have a cleaner desktop with a limited amount of clutter but don't want to lose functionality of the apps I use. I have done some google searching but it seems most people are having issues with apps showing up in the taskbar instead of the desktop which is the opposite of what I am going for. Are Registry and File Directory paths identical in different Windows regions and languages? Posted: 26 Nov 2018 10:16 AM PST For example, with Windows 10 set to the United States region and English-US, by default Chrome installs itself in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application and creates some registry keys at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Google\Chrome For an automation script, can I safely assume these paths will be the same on all client machines running Windows 7 or later, regardless of the region or language of Windows? To be clear, after the machines are imaged, I can already safely assume that all machines have 64-bit Chrome installed in the default location provided by the official Chrome installer. Help re-installing Win 8.1 Pro / OEM BIOS key / downgrading to 7 Pro Posted: 26 Nov 2018 01:30 PM PST I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T550. No hard drive, existing old one is toast, so I have a brand new one. Lenovo's site says this machine shipped with Win 8.1 Pro downgraded to Win 7 Pro. There is an embedded product key and a "Preinstalled OS License" number in the BIOS. Microsoft support (I called them) says my product key is for Win 8.1 Pro OEM. I would like to end up with Win 7 Pro installed (not 8.1) and not have to pay for a Win 7 Pro product key. I've tried to reinstall Win 7 Pro OEM and activate it with the key in the BIOS, but activation says its invalid for Win 7, but it is valid for Win 8.1 Pro OEM. Given what I have here, am I entitled to downgrade to Windows 7 Pro, and how would I go about reinstalling Win 7? Or, am I just stuck having to buy a Win 7 Pro retail key? [link] [comments]
Connecting Raspberry Pi as Windows Monitor Posted: 26 Nov 2018 09:44 AM PST Ok, so I have a rather complicated question (at least for me it is) and let me first start off by saying I'm not too familiar with computers on a technical level -- I can navigate/operate a computer just fine, but the actual hardware/coding goes right over my head. So I apologize if this question seems trivial to some. But anyway, here's the situation I'm in: At work, I have recently come into possession of a 43-inch touch display computer/table that is powered by a Raspberry Pi. To put that in other words, I have table where the surface is one large touchscreen panel that runs Windows 10. This is in addition to my actual work computer, which is a workhorse built for high end video processing. What I would like to do is connect the table to my work computer to use as an additional monitor -- but I would like to keep the touchscreen feature, as that seems very useful for media work. The problem I face is that the Raspberry Pi is what activates the touchscreen feature (from what I can gather at least) as it appears that there is an app installed on Windows 10 on the Raspberry Pi itself that allows Windows to recognize the touchscreen. So the problem/question I face is, how (if at all possible) do I connect the table to my desktop computer as a monitor while still running Windows 10/the Raspberry Pi on the table to keep the touchscreen feature? I have successfully connected the table as a monitor before, but doing so overrides the Raspberry Pi connection which means I lose the touchscreen feature. P.S. both computers run Windows 10 if it makes a difference. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Deleted files/folders while uninstalling programs [W10] Posted: 26 Nov 2018 12:51 PM PST Hi, earlier I tried to uninstall a bunch of programs that I wasn't using (random games, antivirus software, external hardware specific programs etc.). I was surprised when I finished uninstalling and saw nearly most of my saved files and folders missing, which weren't related to the programs (word files, pdfs, folders, txt, and other key files for programs). The only file left was one that I was working on when I decided to uninstall programs. I don't know if there is a way to fix this (system restore didn't have a restore point so that's just a big slip up on my end), but does anyone know why this happened? [link] [comments] |
