Grey circle with lightning bolt (no battery icon) Please help!!!

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 05:59 PM PST

My girlfriend just got a replacement galaxy 7 from Verizon and set it up. Woke up this morning to her phone stuck on this. https://imgur.com/gallery/dxbbJ4Q Her phone was plugged in all night. The Phone will vibrate and this image will flash, then it'll disappear and repeat. I've tried recovery boot but it only flashes the Samsung logo, then goes straight to the circle. If unplugged from the charger the phone won't even respond and will stay turned off. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance! Update: I've installed the correct drivers for it on my computer and it doesn't recognize the phone. The phone continues into that loop. I got the drivers from https://imgur.com/a/UYcsrmY https://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/

    Phone shifts picture

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 08:37 PM PST

This is a very weird thing to describe but I'll try my best. Recently when I try to take a picture on my phone, it'll shift the final picture to the left. So for example say there's a square in the center of my camera, and I take a picture, once it's taken it'll shift the square to the left. Anyone know if this is like a lenses problem or something else?

I have a ZTE Blade X Max, everything is updated, and it's like 1.5 years old.

How do people keep viruses off their Android?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 11:08 AM PST

iPhone user here. I'm almost certainly going to jump ship to an Android soon. But I heard iPhone is much more secure than Android. So how do people keep their Android phones protected?

Change the way Google Assistant announces new notifications

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 05:18 PM PST

I'm using my JBL Everest 110GA with Google Assistant built in and it I'm not sure what changed recently but what it would use to do when I'd get a notification from an app it would announce the app, and then whoever sent it. Now it announces it as "new notification from Snapchat, tap the Google Assistant button to hear more" I'm not sure how to change it back to the way it was previously, I can't seem to find anything in the settings either.

    Phone number disappeared

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 05:15 PM PST

I got a girls phone number today, but I didn't have time to add a contact so I called the number with the intent of finding the number later out of the call log.

Well later came around and it isn't appearing in the call log. I was indoors at the time with bad signal so I guess the call never went out, but the number was dialed and I hit call, let it sit for a second before canceling the call.

Is there anyway to find the number now?

What's the best CPU right now for Android?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 06:16 PM PST

I'm looking for a good benchmark speed test (like running a game) comparing kirin 980 vs snapdragon 845 vs exynos 9810. Has anyone done this? When I googled the processors, I only found some spec comparison.

App says that GPS needs to be enabled for Bluetooth connection to work. Is this BS?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 06:57 AM PST

I bought a scale that comes with an app to be able to read the data on my phone. The problem is, when connecting to the scale via Bluetooth (in the app) a message pops up saying "to ensure proper Bluetooth connection please turn on GPS". If i don't turn on GPS in high accuracy mode, it fails to connect.

Is this a legit thing or just their scammy way of getting precise location information?

Google Reminders aren't popping up as notifications

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 06:09 PM PST

I have recurring Google reminders that have always popped up reliably as normal notifications. Recently I've noticed they haven't been appearing anymore as notifications, only appearing silently within the Inbox app. Anybody else experience this or have a fix?

There's something wrong with Android Pie

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 05:54 PM PST

I have Android Pie on two different devices and am running into the same erratic behaviour.

Apps that need to run in the background are being aggressively closed until the phone is unlocked. Apps that have high background usage are not being optimized. This battery optimizing behaviour is just not functioning as it should.

Firstly, I found that turning off adaptive battery yielded better battery life than having it on.

WhatsApp has been running in the background almost consistently, making it the highest app on my battery usage list. So naturally, I tried turning on battery optimization and restricting background usage for the app. It looks like this did absolutely nothing. The app is still running in the background and the battery usage is unchanged.

Now, apps that I do want to run in the background, like my email client and IFTTT, are not running unless my phone is unlocked. Emails don't come through and IFTTT applets don't run. I figured I would just turn off battery optimization for these apps to solve the issue. Unfortunately, this had no effect. Still my emails are not fetched and my applets don't run while the screen is off.

Am I missing something? A setting perhaps? Am I doing something wrong? I can't be the only person experiencing this as it has been consistent across two different devices.

Samsung S9+ - Is there a way to turn on/off my TV using my phone?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 09:01 PM PST

So I just got a new Samsung S9+, only to find out that it doesn't have an IR Blaster like my old Samsung S6. Without that, the old app I was using to turn on/off my Vizio won't work anymore. Is there anyway to still turn it off with my new phone?

For my TV, its an older Vizio that I don't think has access to WiFi

How can you edit symbol locations on Android?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 05:07 PM PST

Hope this is the right place to ask. I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the symbol layout on the keyboard is completely different to what I'm used to on my old phone. I've tried downloading different keyboards but none have the layout I'm looking for. Can anyone help me find either my old keyboard or one I can customise the symbol location? For reference here is the layout I'm used to. It was the default Samsung keyboard on my old Samsung J3 6. https://imgur.com/a/l0fTaxx

Huawei mate 20 pro - fragility?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 08:44 PM PST

So I just ordered the Huawei mate20 pro. It's like the perfect phone except this test when the guy bends it and you see the screen completely shattered. Compared with the Note 9 or S9+, it's obvious that Samsung has better designed the phone in this regard (frame flexibility?)

What do you think about the phone durability? I don't really drop my phone but I remember a good fall of my S5 that should have definitively completely killed it but somehow it survived fine (dropped from my pocket as I was biking at 40km/h). It just takes one time... So I'll definitively put a case + screen protector but I'm pretty torn with the choice. I was initially going for the S9+ but seeing the bigger battery on the Note 9/ Mate20 changed my decision. Also the in-screen fingerprint sensor...

PayPal app won't allow login paste or auto fill?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 04:57 PM PST

I have a super complex password but I also use LastPass. Every other app I can have it completely auto fill or at a minimum copy paste the login fields. Neither works on the PayPal app and I can't get in. This intentional or just broken?

Hide Notification Sounds and Ringtones from Google Play Music

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 08:37 PM PST

Hey guys, I have a Pixel 3 XL. I've been a long time user of android but I don't remember having this issue before.

I have two folders named Notifications and Ringtones on my storage drive. Any files in there work in their respective areas. The issue is these sounds show up in play music and I very often shuffle my whole library when listening.

I've tried adding a .nomedia file in there. That will hide it from the entire system, though. Which means said ringtones and notifications stop working entirely and just play the default sound.

Any other ideas? I really don't remember having this music trouble with my OnePlus, but it was an older version of android. Maybe something changed?

I have two photos I want to rotate every time I put my phone to sleep on my lock screen. My apple friends can do this and I want to as well but at the same Time, I do not want to download a crummy app from the app store that will make my phone slower. I have a Galaxy S7 on the Newest FW.

    Accidental android reset

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 04:03 PM PST

So I sold my phone (Samsung Go Prime) to a friend my mine, but for some reason his brother has reset the phone now requires a account from the previous owner to set it up which in this case is not me because I bought the phone 2nd handed and I cant find or contact the guy I bought it off. So I there a way I can set up the phone without the 1st owner?

    Light Phone

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 06:53 PM PST

Ive been intrigued with the Light Phone which is trying to bridge dumb phones and smart phones. The light phone 2 is supposed to have basic apps (like messaging, calculator etc) without a browser, social media etc.

Im wondering if there is an android rom out there that basically turns off all this functionality. Leaving only the most basic/emergency elements available for the user.

By which methods should I ask for donations in my app?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 02:43 PM PST

I have an app (Simple Accounting) that was removed from the Play Store for having in app payments for donations via bitcoin, and I was planing to add a patreon as payment method.

In-app billing via Google Play seems not to be suited for one time payments (such as donations), or so it says on it's help page:

Here are some examples of products not currently supported by Google Play In-app Billing: [...] * One time-payments, including peer-to-peer payments, online auctions, and donations. [...]

TL;DR: How should I receive payments from my app?

    Thank you for your time!

Why does the Oreo update take 8 hours?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 05:44 PM PST

Just got my Samsung Galaxy A8 and it's still in Nougat version but is upgradable to Oreo so I started to install it, the countdown timer says 8hours. I Googled how long it normally takes and a lot of people say it only takes 20 mins to 1hour. I have to take my phone to work and I have no internet connection over there. I don't know if I should just pause the update or what.

I need some help picking out an SD card for my Samsung Galaxy S9+

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 01:32 PM PST

I've done my reading up on microSD cards and their capabilities. I'm aware that the write speed is likely the most important feature in an SD card. I'm a little uncertain however on the actual functionality of the camera in my Galaxy S9+ and it's relationship with the microSD card. In the past (with older Galaxy phones), I've had my camera save photos directly to my SD card to keep my internal storage free. I'm wondering, because the Galaxy S9+ can now shoot video in 4K and images at much higher resolutions than a Galaxy S7, will a high write speed benefit me greatly if I plan on shooting 4K video and saving it directly to the microSD card? I'd imagine that it would but wanted to ask and see if I'd just be wasting my money.

I only ask this question as if I'm an idiot because I'm not certain how a smartphone actually records photos and video. I'm not sure if the images are recorded (temporarily somewhere) and then transferred to the microSD card or, if the phone is set to record everything directly to the microSD card, the phone then captures the images and records it directly to the microSD card (in which case, a higher speed would be required undoubtedly). I believe I know the answer but just thought I'd ask before dropping some caaaaash on a good microSD card. I hate when my photo shoots get delayed because it can't keep up with my artistic demands (sarcasm).

Lastly, if there are any recommendations on microSD cards that are sufficiently fast and won't break the bank, please share. This subject can be entirely confusing at times.

    Thanks much.

How to Enable Split Screen for games fully?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2018 04:30 PM PST

I was able to find the box to allow me to split screen 2 games at once but the only thing is that it only plays one at once and the other is paused and I have to switch between the two. I'm guessing these's a step I'm missing. I'm using Android 7.1.1 on a Galaxy Tab A
