Can a virus running through a browser window theoretically do this? Posted: 29 Nov 2018 04:46 PM PST So just a few minutes ago after I was trying to download a comic chapter, the phone dialer randomly popped up on me with a number pre-dialed. I wasn't using the browser itself at that moment, but it was running in the background. I thought I accidentally tapped a phone number in twitter (the app I was using atm) so I just dismissed it. Half a minute later the messages app opens, starting a conversation with an unknown number and a code already in the textbox. I instantly closed all apps, rebooted, checked my running processes (nothing there), newly installed apps (also nothing). There was an unknown apk in my download folder marked for today but I'm 100% sure that I didn't install it (or anything for that matter). So, my question would be: Is it possible that a simple in-browser application can do this kind of thing? I've never had something like this happen to me and I've been using android for 6+ years. Can anything be done with swipe right on the note 9 plus? :( Posted: 29 Nov 2018 08:04 PM PST Just upgraded from note 4 to note 9. Holy crap, what an improvement. Except for the swipe right from home screen... Am I forever tied to Bixby when swiping right from home screen? I've already remapped the Bixby button. So that problem is solved. But the swipe right from home screen is still a conundrum. Bill Bixby was cool as the Hulk. Don't want him in my phone. I miss Google Now swipe right on this phone... [link] [comments] |

2 games I've been trying to run just can't connect Posted: 29 Nov 2018 08:38 PM PST 2 games I've been wanting to play (fate grand order and epic seven) both launch fine on my LG G5 and just won't connect to their patching server, countless games I've played over the years have never had a problem, tried everything from restarting the phone to the gateway to switching airplane mode on and off, is there something I could download or do that could work around whatever is causing the dropped/stalled connection? I was due for an upgrade and snagged a g7 and I'm still having the same issue, if I had a better plan for mobile data I'd just dl it that way (everything works on mobile), but the files are too big. Htc desire 530 android 7 root? Posted: 29 Nov 2018 08:30 PM PST Is there any easy way to root my device? I've had no luck recently and the XDA guide was confusing to me. The apps I use for it seem to stop or black out [link] [comments] |
Keyboard Vibration Feedback Problem | PLEASE HELP Posted: 29 Nov 2018 08:16 PM PST Out of nowhere in the past couple days the vibration feedback coming from my keyboard typing lowered in intensity immensely. I thought the best solution would be to stop putting off the software update that's been waiting on my phone for the past couple months. After hours of updating to Android Oreo, I went to set/test my vibration settings again, and nothings changed. I get minuscule amounts of vibration when using my keyboard & I can't seem to find out how to fix it, any ideas? [link] [comments] |
After I turned on service from Verizon, apps randomly stop after a few seconds on Lg G5 Posted: 29 Nov 2018 08:12 PM PST I few months ago, I bought a used LG G5 that was unlocked for Verizon, but I didn't connect it to a phone provider. I used only Wi-Fi on it and it worked fine. A month ago, I bought phone service from Verizon and I have been having issues with apps randomly stopping after a few seconds. First, it was texting. I would be typing something and the window would minimize repeatedly, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after a few seconds. Then videos, both streaming and saved, would pause during playback. Now it happens when I use the camera to record videos. Also, as time goes on, the pausing is more frequent. It is not freezing or crashing, just stopping, and with the text app, it also minimizes the window. I also bought a second phone ( same model, same seller) and use only Wi-Fi on it and there are no issues. Is it the phone? The service provider? The apps? I am thinking that when I added Verizon service, some setting was changed in the phone that caused a malfunction. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Sending Non-contacts directly to Voicemail Posted: 29 Nov 2018 08:06 PM PST is there a way to send people not on your contact list directly to voice mail? Right now I have DND set for non-contacts (Which just doesn't make the phone ring), but I am giving up my normal setting of blocking all calls during my normal wind down and sleep hours. Posted: 29 Nov 2018 11:49 AM PST Other calls work fine. I'm pretty sure it's spam, I just find it odd since I get spam calls very infrequently. [link] [comments] |
[App suggestion] Best option to quickly transfer pictures or text to and from pc-android Posted: 29 Nov 2018 07:20 PM PST I'm looking for the most seamless way to interact with my phone from my computer and vise-versa. pushbullet is what I have used since 2015 but it is often very slow and has not seen support for years. Is there a better option to quickly copy and paste links from my phone to pc or pc to phone, and drag and drop small files/pics across devices? Currently on the Note 9 and my computer is an xps running windows 10. [link] [comments] |
Troubleshooting group messaging on new Pixel 3 XL Posted: 29 Nov 2018 08:16 AM PST I moved over from iPhone and am trying to get group messaging to work again. I followed the transfer steps and disabled iMessage and FaceTime and all that jazz with my sim card still in my iPhone, then ported over to my pixel. I have group messaging set to MMS, and autodownload MMS on. I have restarted the conversations, the messaging app, and the phone. However, everyone else in the group both Android and iPhone users are receiving my messages as separate messages whilst receiving each other's as a group chat. Halp? [link] [comments] |
Galaxy Note 9, blurry photos, flashing white balance? Posted: 29 Nov 2018 09:05 PM PST I've had a problem with blurry photos since I got the phone. I just compensated by taking a ton of pics at once, then going through and deleting all the blurry ones. Any little motion causes blur. My puppy twitches, instant blur. Today I got frustrated enough that I figured something must be wrong with my settings and turned to google. On another q&a forum, someone suggested turning off scene optimizer, turning off hdr, and turning on tracking AF. This has definitely improved the problem, but blur is still an issue. So my first question is if anyone knows how to fix this blur? Second, once I turned off scene optimizer I noticed a new problem. My white balance appears to flicker between normal and yellow tinted. I'm not sure if it's always done this and I just never noticed bc it appears more subtle when scene optimizer is on... or if it's something new that happened after adjusting the settings? Because I looked back at old videos and it doesnt look like its flashing, but it's very obvious in the new videos, after I adjusted settings. I reset all the settings just in case, but the flicker is still there. Does anyone else have this problem or know what's going on? Thanks for any help! I just want to take non-yellow, non-blurry photos... and well, now non-flashing videos. EDIT- PHOTOS: http://imgur.com/a/Y3uNf8H First image is a gif demonstrating the flickering between white balances. The second compares the two, if I time the pic right I can take a pic with the corrected white balance or the tinted one. The third just shows how easy it is to get blur. [link] [comments] |
Ad blocker for non-rooted phone? Posted: 29 Nov 2018 10:34 AM PST So what are the options for globally blocking ads across the Android operating system without rooting? I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 phone. I would be willing to allow ads in some cases like for reddit... [link] [comments] |

Can I access my "Calendar" (generic app pre-installed with Android) somehow with my Windows laptop? Posted: 29 Nov 2018 06:28 PM PST This is the app I'm talking about, came preinstalled on my Android 6.0.1 phone: https://i.imgur.com/oVsCyQh.png Can I access this with my Windows laptop? If so, how? If not, is there any convenient way to export my dates from it to an app that can? (I assume Google has a cross-platform calendar). [link] [comments] |
Google Hangouts In-App Browser Posted: 29 Nov 2018 02:39 PM PST Hey all, so I got my Note 9 almost 2 weeks ago, and I chat on the Google Hangouts app quite a bit throughout the day. One of the first things I noticed was that there was an option to use an in-app browser in google hangouts (I think this was just in the hangouts app settings). So when my buddy would link me dank meme imgur links it would just open them right there in hangouts. But I just noticed that is no longer there? I'm not sure if a recent update removed it or what. I can't find much via google searches, just mentions that an in-app browser was added in a past update, and that potentially it was somehow a server-side setting. It was pretty nice and convenient. Anyone have more information or a way to get this back or soemthing? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Nov 2018 10:42 AM PST So, I switched about 3 days ago to a brand new galaxy S9 with a subscription (I dunno the English way of saying it since I'm not natively English) that gives me unlimited 4G with 30mbp/s speeds. For some reason I've only been able to get speeds of up to 1.2mbp/s and I switched from an iPhone 6 and with a worse subscription I got 10mbp/s at my place, even though the connection is mediocre at best. Also for some reason my phone sometimes decides to redirect me on Spanish versions of a websites when I click a link on the version I'm currently browsing. Any help would be appreciated since I like this phone but it's been driving me crazy sometimes [link] [comments] |
How do I ACTUALLY disable notifications from the App Permissions? Posted: 29 Nov 2018 05:59 PM PST I'm getting them all the time and I have them all turned off in the settings but they just won't go away. What am I doing wrong? [link] [comments] |
How to mute repeated/concurrent notifications Posted: 29 Nov 2018 05:43 PM PST I get severely annoyed when I get a barrage of notifications from a group text or repeated messages from the same person in text/IM/etc. I would like to be able to get a notification when I get a text, and then mute notifications from that sender for X minutes I'm guessing that's probably app specific (I use Textra). But an OS-wide solution would be okay too -- eg, dont ever play a sound notification more frequently than X minutes I'm sure tasker or something can do this, but is there a native way? How do I get rid of media track change notifications in Android Auto? Posted: 29 Nov 2018 05:29 PM PST I use Android Auto (the phone app) with GoneMAD Music Player for my music and recently I've noticed that in AA, a banner notification pops on screen every time the track changes. I asked the developer about it but he says it must be related to AA and not the app. So I ask: how do I disable these notifications (if even possible)? [link] [comments] |
How to switch main user profile Posted: 29 Nov 2018 05:27 PM PST Hey everyone, I just got a new phone and want to give my old one to my girlfriend. I have had a profile setup for her for when she needs to use it, but it doesn't allow her to text properly. It seems the only way to give her all the functionality of the phone is to make her profile the main one, but as far as I can tell there's no setting that allows for that. Does anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to start over from scratch if I don't have to. Thanks guys. (Using Android 7.0 on Moto G5 Plus). [link] [comments] |
Wi-Fi question on galaxy/pixel Posted: 29 Nov 2018 05:17 PM PST Hi everyone, I have had this Wi-Fi issue with my galaxy phones. I just bought the pixel and wondering if there is just some sort of setting I'm missing or what. I have Wi-Fi at home. So I turn Wi-Fi on. Then I go out, and there are these public Wi-Fi hotspots by Xfinity and Time Warner. They require sign in. So my phone tries to connect, can't, then the internet stops working because is connected to a Wi-Fi network that doesn't have internet access. So then I have to turn Wi-Fi off, and remember to turn it back on at home. Is there any solution to this? Many times I don't even know there's a hotspot and my phone has stopped getting push notifications etc and I don't even know about it I ordered a new pixel 3 so if this is only a problem with the galaxy phones I've had the i ugess its not a big deal becauseI'm getting a new phone in a day or so. Thanks in advance ! [link] [comments] |
Annoying pop-up help (device blocked by server) Posted: 29 Nov 2018 01:08 PM PST I keep getting this annoying pop-up on my v30+ after trying to sync my exchange calendar with my phone this weekend, and I can't figure out how to try and unsync that account or turn off the ability of the phone to show this pop-up. I'm on sprint but I don't think that has an effect in this case. [link] [comments] |
Power and Volume Buttons not working, phone otherwise fine... Posted: 29 Nov 2018 04:42 PM PST Hey guys, my power and volume buttons are not working. I think k it's a software glitch that could be fixed through a reboot but all methods I've located involve the use of one or the other buttons. I should also mention the icon that indicates the phone is charging is on despite the device not being plugged into a charger. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments] |
