    Looking for reliable resellers!

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 01:47 AM PDT

    Hi everyone!

We are looking for reliable sellers to be added to the wiki!

If you've recently bought from a shop that wasn't featured but provided good service, let us know about your experience. If your shop has already been mentioned by someone, feel free to reply to that comment / upvote.

If you leave a rating, please mention the purchased product, the shipping method and shipping times, your country and whether you had to pay any taxes or not.

    Additional notes:

    • Please don't report others' experiences or things you've been told.
    • The Solution Shop and GearBest have recently been removed for being unreliable and won't be put back in the near future.
    • We've been told that Banggood's European Direct Mail is tax free. Can people who used it confirm that?

    Thank you in advance!

    Mi Max 3 or Pocophone?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 12:45 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to 'upgrade' from my S8 and am torn between the Max 3 and the Pocophone F1.

My main concern is the battery life of the F1. How is the battery life SOT-wise for you guys on the Pocophone and the Max?

Also, isnt the Max.. Just too big? Did anyone upgrade from a smaller phone and could tell me their experience?

Which phone would you choose and why?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm not getting my Facebook Messenger notifications in my Pocophone

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 09:44 PM PDT

I've had this phone for about 6 days now and just yesterday, I started not getting notifications from my Messenger app. I only get them after I open the app. I have all my show notifications enabled and the battery saver does not restrict the Messenger's activity. I'm not sure what the issue is. I've also tried reinstalling the app and restarting the device. Nothing's working

POCO F1 display adaptive brightness even when the setting is disabled?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 12:07 PM PDT

I bought a POCO F1 recently and the experience is great. I was lucky enough to get a unit without the screen bleed too. But one thing that annoys me is that when I'm on very low brightness and switching to a very dark background, even when I have disabled auto brightness and automatic contrasts, the display becomes adaptive and the brightness increases mildly.

Have anyone else encountered this? If this is a setting problem and there is a way to disable this, that would be awesome too. I don't have auto-brightness enabled nor the automatic contrasts options on display menu.

    Iphones announced, so...

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 11:59 AM PDT

Now that the new iPhones see the light of day for the "first time" what do you think about their new features, are anything of today's announcement making you switch form Xiaomi? Just curious... Personally I'm more in love with my Mi phone lol

Switched from an iPhone X to Xiaomi's Pocophone F1. Impressions after 2 weeks....

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 05:58 AM PDT

So first and foremost, tackling the "WHY??!"

    • Confused about my intent for wanting to upgrade from the X to the XS. Screen space has always been a big plus for me; I don't mind upgrading to a bigger phone, though admittedly it would be the first time I buy two iPhones back to back without a "generation gap"
    • Made the switch 2 weeks ago, roughly when the Pocophone went on sale here. Lot... lot... LOT of hype for this phone at the price point I got it at, ie: $300.
    • Comfortable switching between iOS / Android - the only dependency I had was Apple Music (which I literally can't live without, since Spotify isn't launched here yet). Thankfully the app is much better on Android than it used to be a year or two back.

Based on the above, the idea was i'd switch to the Poco to see how comfortable I was with the huge (apparent) downgrade and based on tomorrow's announcements, i'd decide to either:

    1. Sell the X, use the Poco till early November which is when the XS would most likely launch here. Then hand the Poco down to the wifey.
    2. Keep the X, still hand the Poco to the wifey, and instead invest in a Watch S4 (been on my to-buy list) + new Airpods and probably skip this generation of phones.

So coming down to it, how did the Pocophone fill the iPhone X's shoes in terms of day to day tasks, photos, apps, (mild) gaming, and other areas. Surprisingly, very well! The phone's extremely snappy thanks to the 845 and 6GB of RAM; no stuttering, lagging or delays of any sort. The phone has an option to disable the bottom on-screen home and navigation buttons to make it a completely "full screen experience" with gestures - this is the number one thing that made my transition a lot smoother than I thought. The system uses the same gestures as the iPhone X and getting used to navigating through screens and menus was a breeze.

The number one problem I had with the phone was the strange camera. I can't compare it to other Android devices or even the OnePlus6 but it shoots very well in conditions where there's good lighting, but does pretty bad with both moving objects and dimly lit objects and/or people. Our 4 year old daughter is the star of most of our photos and the camera didn't meet my expectations of capturing her candid day-to-day moments with the crispness, color saturation and balance I got used to with the iPhone X.

My second gripe was being unable to find an efficient email program for the phone. I tackle 80+ emails a day and need something that "just works" - so far from what I tried out of a handful, I haven't been able to settle on a solid email program (currently using BlueMail for Android).

Overall, the switch from the iPhone X to the Poco Phone was a surprisingly pleasant experience, but i'm definitely looking forward to switching back to a device with a much better camera. Can't wait for tomorrow's announcements - it'll determine whether I end up choosing Option 1 or 2 mentioned above :)

    Questions from new Xiaomi user

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 11:51 AM PDT

Hello everyone. My Note 5 (whyred) arrived and I sent request for bootloader unlocking. This is my first Xiaomi phone and first Android after a long time with an iPhone so you can say I'm a little rusty regarding Android and custom rom flashing. Back in the day flashing custom rom on my old Moto G was a pretty straitforward thing but today they are more steps and more possibilities to brick phone so I need to know a couple of things before I do anything on my beloved new Xiaomi device. So lets start.

    1. This rollback thing, do I need to worry about it when flashing custom roms?
    2. Can I backup MIUI in TWRP and restore that backup later if I decide to go back to stock rom or procedure is different?
    3. Do I need to flash firmware or it's included in the rom?
    4. What is the best custom rom for whyred regarding battery life and stability?

Can a "fastboot update" be made to other android phone (different brand of xiaomi) made?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 04:14 PM PDT

I have a cheap android phone, and I was wondering if somehow I could flash any of the ROM versions of Xiaomi on it, following this instructions.

Thanks and sorry if the question is a bit irregular.

What's the deal about the Poco F1's LTE bands (especially bands 2/4/12/17)?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 04:05 PM PDT

    Different sources say different things

    • Xiaomi's and GSMArena's website says there's only bands 1/3/5/7/8/20/38/40/41 support.
    • Frequencycheck adds bands 2/4/12/17.

I've also seen things about how you could enable bands 2 and 4 by selecting Spanish as your language on the A2. Did that carry over to this device as well since the F1 is coming to Mexico and Colombia? I doubt bands 12 and 17 are there. Also, are there any bands that can be enabled with QPST?

Horrible connectivity on Redmi Note 5(global)?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 01:38 PM PDT

Had the phone for two months hoping for the best but it's becoming unbearable. Dropped connection pretty much everywhere I go and if it does stay connected it is horrible speeds. I've tried tweaking APNs and any other "fix" I've found. Currently have TMobile as a service provider but had absolutely zero problems with them on my previous Galaxy phone. I'm about to ditch this phone and upgrade to something else before I throw it through a window.

I want to install Google Camera on my Mi A2, is it possible to switch between two rear cameras?

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere, I would like to be able to use both the regular 12 mpx sensor and the 20 mpx one.

    Pocophone Oleophobic Coating?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2018 01:14 PM PDT

    Hi,

I've heard that the Pocophone has no oleophobic coating on the screen. Can anyone who owns one report on if it has one or not, and if not, how bad this makes fingerprints and grease on the screen? It's the only thing putting me off the phone.

    Thanks
