I'll be using RPG Maker, and doing a little bit of photo editing/video editing. As for gaming - I wouldn't be playing much of anything all that taxing. Old JRPGS from steam, a couple of indie games, some visual novels.

What budget gaming laptop should I consider buying at the range of $800? Posted: 12 Sep 2018 02:11 AM PDT I've seen couple of options like the Acer nitro 5, Dell G3 15, Legion Y530, Asus VivoBook Pro 17 and lastly Asus TUF FX504GD. I've also seen a lot of reviews of these laptop on YouTube and all of them have some kind of a downside, but consider its pricing it's expected and that's why it's hard for me to choose one...help would be appreciated. Also important to have GTX 1050 with 4gb vram and i5 or i7 7th generation or newer. [link] [comments] |

Around $1000
Trying to find an i7 laptop with its own dedicated gpu.
I'd rather have a thin portable laptop, but if a bulkier one is better suited I'd settle.
Windows
Any screen size is preferrable
Programming using standard UC engineering programs.
1080p HD screen, and a back-lit keyboard.
Trying to find a laptop that has enough power to help me use computer engineering programs. [link] [comments] |
[UK][£1000] Looking for laptops similar to the Lenovo Ideapad 720S 14" Posted: 12 Sep 2018 04:18 AM PDT I recently ordered a lenovo ideapad 720S 14" (i7-8550U, MX150, 8GB RAM), but the delivery has been repeatedly delayed, and Lenovo customer support is a nightmare to deal with. Are there any other laptops similar to this that you would recommed? [link] [comments] |

Been looking for a good Acer Swift 3 Deal Posted: 11 Sep 2018 01:19 PM PDT For engineering school. Found this site offering it for around $600. First off does anyone have experience with that site. Secondly are the specs decent enough to run programs like AutoCad, maybe a little gaming and other everyday tasks? [link] [comments] |

Picking a laptop for low-medium gaming and university Posted: 12 Sep 2018 02:53 AM PDT Hello, in 2 weeks i start going to the university and i will need a laptop for programming and some gaming on the side (i have a desktop that i will use for actual gaming). Weight is not that important for me as i will carry it in a backpack and i'm used to much heavier stuff. In my budget i found a few that match my interests but i'm unsure which one would be the best buy. University wise i will use it for code-writing in C and maybe java, and after the first 2 years i will start doing graphic design, renders and 3D Programming (+ the usual files reading for the courses, browsing, movies etc) Gaming wise i want it to be able to run Overwatch, Rainbow 6 Siege, Guild Wars 2 and the like at a smooth frame-rate on at least medium details (but without fancy stuff as shadows or reflections if needed to push the frame-rate) . As such i found in my country the following models: MSI GF63 8RC: i7-8750h; 1TB hdd; GTX 1050 4GB; 15,6" screen ; 8GB Ram (atm this one is the one that i find the most appealing because it's on the same price range as the other laptops but with a more powerful cpu that is unlikely to not handle anything i will throw at it and also the lightest with a weight of 1,86 kgs; my only concern on this is the cooling as it has only one fan, with one pipe for gpu and 2 for the cpu, also i found some sites saying that the ram isn't upgrade-able ) Acer Helios 300: i5-8300h: 1TB hdd: GTX 1050Ti 4GB; 17.3" screen: 8GB Ram (this one is the only 17" i could find in my budget, and only because it is on a sale right now, but as with the MSI, i'm unsure about the cooling, 2 fans, but on the same side with 2 shared heatpipes between gpu and cpu and one more heat-pipe for the gpu, i found people on forums undervolting the cpu to resolve this but i would rather not have to do that for a brand new laptop) Lenovo Legion y530: i5-8300h; 1TB hdd; GTX 1050Ti 4GB; 15,6" screen; 8GB Ram (didn't find many negatives about this one and at the moment it is my safest option, but i did find people having problem with the charger) Acer Nitro 5: i5-8300h; 1TB hdd; GTX 1050Ti 4GB; 15,6" screen; 8GB Ram (some concerns with the cooling here) Dell Inspiron 7577: i5-7300h; 1TB hdd + 8GB SSH; GTX 1050 4GB; 15,6" screen; 8GB Ram (an old model, but i did include it as i saw people praising it's construction quality and at the moment it's on sale here, bringing it in my budget range) My main concern with all of those is build quality and cooling as i know i can't expect huge gaming performance so aside the listed games and maybe one rpg from time to time i won't over-load it with games, but i plan to use the one i buy for a veeeery long time with at most an ssd purchase when i give in to the loading times and ram upgrade eventually. I am not looking for other models, i appreciate it, but i can only really get a laptop from my country and those are the only ones i found at a decent price for what they offer [link] [comments] |

How do I upgrade my laptop's battery and storage to an SSD? What tools do I need? (Asus n550jk) Posted: 11 Sep 2018 03:34 PM PDT I want to upgrade my Asus n550jk's battery since the battery is extremely weak. I can only get about 3 hours of battery storage. Do you have any recommendations as to how to how to switch out the battery and which I should buy. I also want to upgrade the HDD to an SSD by either replacing it or taking out the optical drive. I don't know how to do either, or what supplies I will need. [link] [comments] |
Help, MSI GS65 or Dell XPS 15 (9570) Posted: 12 Sep 2018 01:55 AM PDT I'm in need for a new laptop at the moment. I need a good looking, powerful, acceptable in weight and thickness and great build quality. My search has so far come down to two options, (Recommend any others that fit my list though) the Dell XPS 15 9570 and the MSI GS65. I really enjoy the designs, although prefer the Dells more then the MSI, although the MSI has better performance for the price. The things that I will be doing are some game design, programming (Mostly web design), photo editing, some gaming and school work, nothing too intensive though. I would very much appreciate some recommendations from any of you willing to help, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Need new ultrabook/workstation for university/work Posted: 12 Sep 2018 01:03 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm graduating from university (IT field) this year and since my pc is giving up, i'll need a new one. I thought of getting a laptop since I often meet up for projects or have to read at the university. Generally I'm not a laptop guy, but I'm willing to spend more in order to get a better and lasting system. This includes: - being well-built (aluminum) as well as sturdy - if possible, lightweight (2.2kg/4.6lbs) - 1080p screen & ips - high specs (i7 8750h), ram/ssd/gpu not important since I can upgrade ram/ssd and I don't really game (maybe dota sometimes) - as low heat emissions as possible (I've noticed that ultrabooks with the new i7 tend to overheat and throttle easily)- other specs are not really significant since I primarily need the laptop for programming (alot of vm's, heavy ide's etc..) as well as casual stuff (web-browsing, movies, ets). - my budget is 2000euro or ~2500usd (not strictly). - also I'll have a cooling pad for using the laptop at home. After a lot of research, I ended with the below list (feel free to suggest more) - Dell XPS 15 9570 (i7 8750H) - Razer Blade 15 2018 (i7 8750H)- Asus Zenbook Pro 2018 (i7 8750H)- MSI GS63 Stealth 8RE (i7 8750H) Any suggestions or personal experience is welcome. I'm really confused about what is best for my needs. Especially since I hate heating pc's or loud fans.. plz send *Edit: Preferably 15.6 inch [link] [comments] |

Posted: 12 Sep 2018 12:47 AM PDT I am helpless since I have had a MacBook Pro for the past 10 years and I loved it! I don't know ANYTHING about laptops and I am not sure how well build etc. the MacBooks today are. I only know they are expensive. What do you People think? Are they still worth their money? Should I dare buy the 15'' and is there a chance it will last as long as my old one? Is there anything else you would recommend? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Sep 2018 06:24 PM PDT I've been looking around for the past week and a half, trying to possibly find a laptop to serve as an upgrade for my current one (my original post can be found here). My main concern is longevity and futureproofing, I hope that a laptop like this can be able to play AAA games for a while (at least 3 years on medium to high settings) if you guys know of anything that can supersede this laptop (within reason of course; my max budget is $1500.00 USD) feel free to let me know!
