Posted: 02 Sep 2018 11:27 AM PDT I only want to use my phone to text on WhatsApp during this flight. Youtube and web browsing can wait till the ground. I bought this plan last time I flew on this carrier last year, and it got sucked up in 15 minutes, presumably by background apps. I just want to be able to access WhatsApp only during that flight without Google Play store trying to do background updates of apps because I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Samsung J7 is my phone. Thank you! Using an android in China - integrating with Apple ecosystem Posted: 02 Sep 2018 06:49 PM PDT Hi everyone, I'd love to hear your opinion as I've been in the market for a new phone for quite a while now... but I currently live in China and will be for the foreseeable future. I have a 2016 MacBook Pro that honestly may have made me permanently switch from windows laptops to MacBooks. I just love the OS and how everything works on it. My friend's MacBooks have always lasted considerably longer than windows laptops and it made me consider that it might be a better longterm investment. I currently have an iPhone now but it's definitely near the end of it's life. These iPhone killers and the ridiculous price tags on the iPhones are making me difficult to pick up another iPhone as it doesn't make sense to me to buy something for a thousand dollars when I could pick up something for half the price with superior parts and build quality. However, the one thing that keeps me from making the switch right away is I'm not sure how the integration of an android device with the Apple ecosystem would work. The reason I say this is because I know a lot of the android apps work off of google but in China, I can't access google apps without using a VPN. It kills my battery and is a pain in the ass to use when not in WiFi as it drains data pretty hard. So I guess my question is in your experience, what is using an android phone like with a MacBook? How is the integration of the two devices and is it dependent on using google apps? I love that my iPhone and my MacBook sync together so seamlessly but is it worth it? I truly appreciate it. And if it wasn't for me being in China, I think it's an easy decision. But as you can see, things aren't as easy out here! [link] [comments] |
Emergency/Ambert alert sound happens every 15 minutes Posted: 02 Sep 2018 06:31 PM PDT Im on vacarion in flordia, and after being in state for an hour i turned off my emergency notifications as it was going off every 15 minutes. An amber alert then a weather alert and so on and so on. Normally these things are rare enough that i dont notice but after i turned the setting off, the loud annoying buzzer that goes off for those alerts goes off every 5-15 minutes. No notifications, just the loud buzzing. How the fuck do i stop it. I had to turn my phone off because how annoying it was. [link] [comments] |
How likely is it that Fortnite Battle Royale will be modified to work on my Samsung Galaxy Tab E? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 08:20 PM PDT |
Posted: 02 Sep 2018 05:49 PM PDT I have had it for about an hour and a half and done some minor setting up and software updates totalling about 130MB. Other than that nothing intensive. The battery has gone from 98% when turned on to 76% in this time. Is my battery degraded? Currently on Android 7.0. [link] [comments] |
Finding firmware for Galaxy S8+ Posted: 02 Sep 2018 04:29 PM PDT My SM-G955FD was purchased in the UAE, been using it in India. I was looking for stock firmware and the Samsung website here lists it by country. Which one do I choose? Where can I look up the product code of my device? [link] [comments] |
Does Google or AOSP release official Treble GSIs that you can flash, and if so, do they get OTAs? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 04:23 PM PDT I am acquiring a Pocophone F1 and I hear it is very flashable. I would love to have pure Android that is updated pretty quickly so if I can pull that off it would be really cool! [link] [comments] |
Can't use SDXC card after factory reset Posted: 02 Sep 2018 04:12 PM PDT I am going nuts on this one, so any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated! Details: Moto G4 Plus on Verizon with a SanDisk Ultra 128GB microSDXC UHS-I Card. I had the card mounted for internal storage and performed a factory reset. I do not remember ever encrypting the card or the phone. Once I performed the factory reset, the phone would not recognize the card - it kept getting a command error. I tried formatting it on my phone as internal storage (failed), as portable storage (failed), using the disk utility on my late-2011 MacBook Pro to format it (failed), to reformat it (failed), FirstAid to fix it (failed), and then used the SD Association's formatter (failed). I'm not trying to save any of the data on the card, I just want to be able to get it in factory condition so that I can use it again. I deliberately only got a 16GB phone because I was able to get this SD card. Any thoughts on how to get this bugger working again? ETA: Android error is "command '7 volume partition disk:179,64 private' failed with '400 7 Command failed'" The SD Association's program said it failed because the disk is write protected. And the Mac Disk Utility found the following after running First Aid: Checking for an EFI system partition Problems were found with the partition map which might prevent booting. [link] [comments] |
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 motherboard swap Posted: 02 Sep 2018 03:45 PM PDT The motherboard on my Note 4 is basically dead and i was wondering if i can change it with a new motherboard. International SIM won't work in LG V20? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 03:42 PM PDT So I just landed in Thailand and I'll be here for a month. I had my LG V20 unlocked by AT&T before leaving the states, but when a new SIM is put in it doesn't allow me to make any calls or use data. You try to type in a phone number and press the call button, and it just doesn't do anything. I was at the SIM sales kiosk at the airport quite a while, they tried everything they could think of but they said my phone just won't allow it. She seemed to think it's because of the Lookout security app, but it won't allow me to uninstall it. Solo traveller, not super tech-savvy...I really don't like the idea of having to find WiFi every time I need to make a call, in case of an emergency. Anything you could suggest would be greatly appreciated!! [link] [comments] |
How do you make your old devices feel "new"? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 11:25 AM PDT Redditors who are still using their 2 years old (or older) phones, aside from slapping a new phone case or using custom launchers/roms, how do you make your devices feel brand new? I'm using a two year old phone running Nougat and as much as I want to get an upgrade but if ain't broken, why replace it right? This lead me to the question above, in what ways can you make your devices feel new? [link] [comments] |
Background apps have to reload every time I switch to them? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 11:20 AM PDT I got this new s9+ last week and I play a lot of games on it. I used to be able to switch directly to the app and it'd pick up right where it left off, now I have to wait for it to reload completely. This is annoying as hell as the phones ability to save where I was in apps was one of my fav. Anyon know why or how this is happening? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2018 02:27 PM PDT On a Pixel 1, just recently upgraded to Android P. There's a few things I haven't figured out yet: 1. Do not disturb: how do I set a time limit so it turns off? I can't find it. Did this go away? You used to be able to set DND to different levels each time. Did that go away also? 2. Volume button always seems to control media volume. Quickest way to adjust other volumes? New method seems less efficient? 3. Swipe notification down and the settings cog isn't at the top right anymore? These 3 things seem to all have reduced efficiency of changing settings. Anybody else notice this? Or is it "user error"? [link] [comments] |
Why do my app icons have white backgrounds? Mate 10 Pro. Posted: 02 Sep 2018 02:00 PM PDT So I just bought Mate 10 Pro today, switching from a 5 year old Galaxy S4. The battery is amazing and so is the phone. But I noticed certain apps have white backgrounds, mostly google apps? Why is this? In my old S4 no icon had such a background, they were all different in shape. Is there a way to remove this white background? [link] [comments] |
Chrome doesn't appear in recent apps Posted: 02 Sep 2018 01:47 PM PDT When I am using Google Chrome and switch to another app, and then go to switch back with the recent apps menu, it just doesn't appear. I've only noticed it recently. What's causing this? [link] [comments] |
Got downvoted for asking how to find my old gmail address, do we have good helpful people here? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 01:16 PM PDT I forgot my alternate gmail address. I believe it was linked to my main gmail for security. There were no emails sent between them and the alternate gmail address never interacted with any emails. Please help me find the alternate gmail address that I cannot remember. Thanks [link] [comments] |

No way to turn on 'do not disturb' without pausing media first? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 12:16 PM PDT Seems there is no way to turn on do not disturb mode (turn off vibrate and ring) while media is playing. I could add a quick settings toggle but there's nothing except scheduled do not disturb in settings. Is the quick settings toggle the only way? I've been using Android 8 for half a year and somehow this is the first time I notice this. I'm using a Mi A1 running stock android 8.1. [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to make the "default app" just stay in whatever app I'm in? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 12:16 PM PDT For example, I have Reddit is fun, but sometimes when I Google something it shoes a result from Reddit. I want it to stay in chrome if I clicked a link in chrome, but if I click a link from a text or something, I want it to either go to rif, or stay in that app if possible. Also I have some apps cloned so I want to just appears stay in the app I'm already in. Is there a way to do this? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 02:58 AM PDT So basically I have a samsung galaxy j3 2016 which has a cracked screen that does not turn on except for random flashes. After looking on ebay all the replacement screens I can find are LCD, but according to the samsung website my phone has an AMOLED screen. Is there no difference? or are the replacements of a lower quality than the original? thanks [link] [comments] |
