My headphone jack is completely broken can I use an micro-usb (not usb c) adapter to fix it? Posted: 01 Aug 2018 04:17 PM PDT Something like this may be? If you have a better product can you post it. [link] [comments] |
Just got Pixel 2 XL that is running P, what is the best way to downgrade/wipe? Posted: 01 Aug 2018 05:15 PM PDT Can I just flash a system image? The bootloader is unlocked. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Should I buy the OnePlus 6 or wait until the Pixel 3 is released? Posted: 01 Aug 2018 05:47 PM PDT Cost is important to me so I'm wondering if you think there is a big enough difference between the two phones where it'll be worth spending extra for the Pixel 3 and losing 64 GB of space as well. Are the benefits of USB C relevant to phones? Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:24 PM PDT I know that USB C is superior to USB 2.0/microUSB, but does it really matter? I'm curious because I have a Xiaomi Mi A1 which has USB C, and I am considering upgrading to the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, which has a microUSB port instead. I do not usually transfer files from my phone, so the I guess the real benefit is the increased power draw. What do you guys think? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 04:11 PM PDT I have used and loved the Swype keyboard but it's no longer supported and I'm looking for an alternative. The most recommended one is the Gboard, but for what I want, it's junk. I don't want GIF's or emojis. I'm composing emails and other semi-serious text, in Facebook, WhatsApp and other conversations. What I need is a quick way to move around in a document, select and cut/copy/paste text, change case, and a few other text editing features. When I can even find that feature on Gboard, it's hidden and I keep getting emojis and GIF's by mistake. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:52 PM PDT I have a Samsung galaxy A3 running Android 7.0 kernel 3.18.14 and I am experiencing an issue that the phone processing data for about 1 second at 5:18am then about 3 seconds later, does the same twice for about half a second. If you wonder how do I know, well I have sensitive hearing (basically I cannot stop being aware of sounds, it's the most distracting stimuli ever) so I put my phone into producing brown noise all night which randomizes what I hear and yay, no patterns, producing brown noise is not the most demanding task; it worked so far so good for about a year, but now more recently is just shuts up the noise for a second then two consecutive half seconds which creates a pattern of silence that violently wakes me up. The phone would do the same patterns of silence when it overheats, to a worse degree, if I stupidly crush it with my body and left tethering on, builds up heat which makes the processor choke; but at 5:18am I check my phone and it's cold. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to buy a new phone?... I mean it isn't random, how can it be just at 5:18am every time?... [link] [comments] |
Foreign currencies changes a lot! Does it affect developers? Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:58 AM PDT I have a Turkish google play developer account which is connected to a Turkish bank account. Google pays me in Turkish Lira every month. My app has $1 USD in-app purchase. I have 1500 customers. When I created the app 1 year ago, my all prices around the world fixed to $1 at that day. For example, it is 0.9 Euro for european customers or 1.25 canadian dollars for canadian customers etc. 1 year ago, 1 US dollar was 3.4 Turkish Lira. But now, 1 US dollar is 5.0 Turkish Lira. So when Google sends me the money every month, do they first calculate in US dollars then convert it to Turkish Lira before sending me? All currencies are changing comparing to each other but I don't know how Google handles currency issues when they collect money from users and send money to developer. [link] [comments] |
Android 8.1 WiFi turns off, how to stop it? Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:11 PM PDT I have a OnePlus6 (Android 8.1 OxygenOS 5.1.9) and after a few minutes of the screen being off or not openning an WhatsApp, WhatsApp stops sending me notifications. How do I stop this from happening? Already battery saver mode is off and WhatsApp is not being "optimized". [link] [comments] |
Google Voice hijacking equalizer on Bluetooth Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:08 PM PDT Hi, A few weeks ago I noticed a strange behavior on my Samsung S7 flat running Oreo connected to a Belkin Bluetooth Car Audio thingy. Occasionally I would notice that my Audio was slightly garbled/ distorted and quieter than I would've expected. At first I thought that it was one of several things... A) The nag about listening to music above a certain volume either hadn't yet been tripped, or was failing after having been tripped. Or B) The audio files were either junk from the get go or had become corrupted. Well, it goes away after a reset. And playing with option A didn't seem to make it happen. As far as junk audio files(Option B), this is happening in my podcast app (AntennaPod), VLC, and NewPipe. Streaming music in NP was just as junky as downloaded files in VLC. Also, strangely, this is only over Bluetooth-- plugged in headphones or regular onboard speakers are clear as usual. I never did test my BT headphones I tried playing with EQ settings in all the apps, and finally found the master EQ in Samsung's settings(never needed this on 7-8 years of Android). I could make it better for talk but not music, or vice versa, but only better-- still bad. Also, it'd sound VERY weird with the global settings changed after a reset. Then one day I opened Google Voice to check a text while in the car situation. The difference in audio was immediate. This was the first time I witnessed the switch of good to bad flipping. Since, I've seen(heard) the change happen several times, probably enough to pinpoint it. Seems to be that GV has to be opened to the screen at least once while on BT-- running in the background and notifications ignored while on BT doesn't trip it. WTF Google Voice? Why can that app, or any app change the audio of other apps? GV has been updated at least 3 times since I noticed this problem, no fix yet. Has anyone else experienced this and come up with a fix? TL:DR- When Google Voice is activated for the 1St time after startup, Bluetooth audio from other apps has a strange distortion and drop in volume until restart. [link] [comments] |
Question about receiving calls Posted: 01 Aug 2018 08:48 PM PDT My dad has a Blu Pure View, and it recently came to my attention that, unlike my mother's and I phones (Samsung products), when they call him when he's on Facebook, he isn't greeted with a dropped screen with a choice to answer or hang up. He has to go into his notification bar, pick the choice of the call, and swipe up to answer. My question is if there's a way to change it up to the Samsung style of receiving calls, and how can I apply it to his phone. [link] [comments] |
Help with a notification icon?! Posted: 01 Aug 2018 02:43 PM PDT As seen in this picture (https://dumielauxepices.net/heart-icons/heart-icons-notification) Edit - on the link it's the top middle pic of the two white hearts. It's showed up in a coworker's BF's notification bar, she asked if I had ever seen it, but I hadn't. I searched Google and while there was a couple of mentions, no one seemed to figure it out. The phone is a Google Pixel, but she doesn't have access to long hold on it or check the notification tray. Anyone seen an app that sends this notification? TIA! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:40 PM PDT I left my phone sitting and doing nothing for 13 hours. Here's the result. Is this normal, or shorter than average? I would expect this battery life if I were using it throughout the day, but you can see the depletion rate in the last picture at the end of the graph since I had it on for a few minutes. What made me check twice was the computed power usage. It's really low for all of the entries. Cell Standby is listed for 30% of the battery use, but it only marks 139 mAh. The other entries are consistent, and if we trusted the list, I'd calculate the S7 battery holds 463 mAh total. Ok, so the S7 must have a 500 mAh battery. Wrong - it's 3000 mAh, with three zeroes. Only 20% of the battery usage is getting reported. The S7 webpage does claim that the S7 has a 15 hour battery life however, and this is in line with my test for a completely unused device. I thought this would be a figure for daily usage however. I've tried battery saver apps in the past, and I've never improved more than around 10%. I don't want any degradation in performance either. The phone is just barely fast enough to run everything smoothly, and the screen is just barely bright enough to see in the sunlight. Maybe there's something leeching battery life, or maybe there's something I can do while the screen is off. Advice? [link] [comments] |
Upgrading from Android 6 to 8 on Samsung Galaxy A5 Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:56 PM PDT I'm eyeing the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) which comes with Android 6.0. I looked around and apparently the phone is now upgradable to Android 8.0. Though I'm wondering if someone can explain to me how the update process works. Is updating to 8.1 also possible since I would like that particular version.I have been reading some comments here and there how people write that their phone had been effected negatively with the update from 6.0 to 8.0. They say that their battery is running out faster, that there are hiccups, basically as if the device wasn't made for running higher level Android systems. If this is all true, then it makes it tough for me to make a decision on which phone I want to buy. Will there really be problems if I buy a new Galaxy A5 and then immediately update it to 8.0? Will I get a sluggisher experience, running an OS which is not optimized for the device? You getting what I'm getting at here? [link] [comments] |
Help transferring music please Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:10 PM PDT So my Google pixel just broke (rip) so I am switching back to my old galaxy s5 for the time being. When I tried putting all of my music from my pixel onto my s5 there were songs that I had deleted from my pixel months ago that transfered to my s5 somehow. I tried transferring the music with my pc(which I thought was standard) Is there something I should be doing to get only the songs that are on my phone transfered and not hundreds of others that I don't want? Seemed like the most reputable place to root. Does anyone know what I'm missing? [link] [comments] |
Maintaining an Android's battery Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:36 PM PDT I've been using an Android phone for the last seven years across multiple brands such as Samsung, HTC and Asus. One of the common challenges for me was to maintain the longevity of the battery. Towards the one-year mark, most of my phone's battery was used up after 2-3 hours of usage. Any recommendations here would be useful as I'm thinking of purchasing the OnePlus 6 soon. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Does on-screen fingerprint scanners work with tempered glass screen protectors? Question about repurposing an old phone Posted: 01 Aug 2018 01:39 PM PDT I am reusing an old device I have as a ip camera. I already have everything setup but I am trying to find out about a couple of concerns that are battery related. I tried pulling the battery while it was plugged in with no luck, so I am having to leave it in and on a charger. My concerns are first off heat/fire risks and if there's a way to mitigate that and second the charger it's on isn't keeping it charged while it's in use, I'm not sure if it will stay on when the battery dies or not, I haven't gone that far yet. The device is a ZTE Overture 2 from cricket [link] [comments] |
Unable to set Wifi Static IP on Pixel 2 Posted: 01 Aug 2018 05:17 PM PDT Hello I have a pixel 2 on 8.1.0. I am trying to set a static ip and dns on my phone for a specific wifi network. I have looked everywhere and I can only find the instructions to long press the network name and then select "advanced". The only problem is that when selecting advanced I can only see a setting for proxy. Nothing else. No place to switch to static ip. Am I missing something simple? [link] [comments] |
Phone has had pop-up ads everywhere for the past week, how to detect and remove the source? Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:37 AM PDT Phone: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Android Oreo, bought 2 months ago A week ago my phone started displaying pop-up ads everywhere. It didn't matter what app I was using, every half an hour or so a full screen pop-up ad would appear and I would have to wait about 3 seconds to close it everytime. The ads seem to be for games that can be found on the playstore. The logo next to the close button seems to suggest it is Google ads. I remember downloading some apks for games last week. I don't know if this might have been some kind of annoying malware that came with my downloaded apks. I already uninstalled those apks since then. How can I detect the source of this annoying pop-up? Is there something I should look for in my file explorer or in my phone settings? Does there exist an app I can download which will help me detect the source of the ad? Thank you all xx [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 01:00 PM PDT Bought a S9+ on ebay. Seller stated it was brand new but he bought it beginning of June. Did a phone info on it and this shows. Why would my battery health be 92%? Can I improve it? 8 discharges seems low to have caused that [link] [comments] |
