Posted: 03 Aug 2018 02:29 AM PDT Last week, I bought this laptop - https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-swift-3-15-6-amd-ryzen-5-laptop-256-gb-ssd-grey-10173889-pdt.html but am a bit unhappy with it. The speakers are horrible and make this weird static noise which, after some Googling, seems to be a common complain with this model. Because of that, I don't just want to replace it with the exact same model. I was going to return it today and get a replacement and was just wondering what the best laptop is from the following list. I would be using it for general browsing and Photoshop. Need a laptop for gaming & schoolwork Posted: 02 Aug 2018 08:29 PM PDT * Total budget and country of purchase:My max budget would be up to 2500. Buying it from the US. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.Having a 2 in 1 (if we're talking about the computers that have detachable screens to make them a tablet) isn't important to me. A good battery life would be ideal, but chances are I won't be far from an outlet most times when I'm on my laptop, so it's not that big of a deal as long as the laptop runs well. I'm looking for a laptop that'll last me a while since I have university coming up next year and won't be able to make a big purchase like this again. How important is weight and thinness to you?I would prefer the laptop to not be bulky or extremely heavy. Having a thin, "professional" looking laptop that isn't too bulky would be nice.* Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.Windows.* Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.I would prefer a 15 inch or somewhere around that over a smaller screen size. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.I might end up using photoshop at some point, but that's extremely low on my priority list, and as far as photo editing goes, that's it. I will be running Fortnite, Wizard101, The Sims 4, GTA 5, and Watchdogs 2. Maybe another game along those lines, but that's all I can think of right now.If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? The games listed above are what I want to play. I would prefer high-ultra settings for my games, and I'm not really an expert with FPS and things like that, but having my games run smoothly and not lag is very important to me.* Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?I've had keyboard keys break off with the amount of typing that I do before, so a good keyboard is important to me. I also would like having reliable build quality since I worry about the hinges of my laptop not working properly after a while (has happened before, granted, with cheap laptops). This isn't extremely important, but having a non-pixelly camera in the laptop would be nice too. A well-functioning touchpad would be important too since when I'm not gaming, that's what I mainly use.Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. -
I apologize if anything I said was confusing, I don't really have experience with computer settings and parts and all that, so I tried my best to explain. Thank you :) [link] [comments] |

Need a mid to high range laptop for gaming and uni work Posted: 03 Aug 2018 03:20 AM PDT Hey everyone, I'm looking for a laptop with a ~$1600 ( buying from Montréal so around 2080 CDN$) (give or take $100) budget with the following-ish specs if possible: - Atleast 16 GB memory - 8th gen processor - MSI GTX 1060 + - 1 TB HDD. **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply - I would really enjoy a 2 in 1 form factor but it's not on the priority list with this budget. And I would pick performance over battery. ** How important is weight and thinness to you? - I would also extremely prefer if the laptop is slim and not very heavy for easy carrying around. **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. - Windows. **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A -I wouldn't mind both suggestions from 15.6'' to 17.3''. I would appreciate your suggestion regarding the topic. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. -fill here, remove dashe I will be using the laptop to play mid heavy games such as Overwatch, World of Warcraft, etc. I will also use it for some slight rendering and Z-Brush sculpting and digital drawing using Photoshop. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? - Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Indie Steam Games I would like to play the games in mid to high and 60 fps. **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? N/A **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Keep in mind that I have a very good 27'' screen ready for setup with this laptop (https://www.samsung.com/ca/monitors/curved-cf70f/) Looking forward for your suggestions and thank you in advance! :) [link] [comments] |
Is the Dell G7 Series 15 good for video editing, gaming, and school? Posted: 03 Aug 2018 12:29 AM PDT I am looking at the dell g7 15 which has a gtx 1060 6gb, i7-8750h, 2x8gb, and has a 128gb ssd + 1tb. I'm not trying to play 4k gaming or vr games just some casual gaming here and there since I'll be in college. I'm also a film major so I'll be using premiere pro, after effects, and photoshop a lot. It's currently on sale for 1077 and I've been doing my research but I need your guy's opinion or whether or not this is a good fit for me. [link] [comments] |

Looking at buying a laptop for around $850 USD, any suggestions? Posted: 02 Aug 2018 08:35 PM PDT * Total budget and country of purchase: I don't want to spend much more than $850.00. Buying from the US, probably going to get it off Amazon. * Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs. It'll spend most of its time plugged in, probably. * How important is weight and thinness to you? Not especially. My backpack is heavy enough as it is, a few more pounds won't hurt me. I'm a pretty strong guy. * Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows only, please. * Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Indifferent, but I don't think I want smaller than a 15". * Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Games, mostly. I don't do a lot of editing or photoshop. * If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I want to be able to run things like WoW at Ultra (not exactly difficult I know), Witcher 3, Subnautica. All the newest and best on Good or Great settings, as high as I can get really. Not too bothered about 30fps vs 60fps, though 60 is nice. Just not a dealbreaker if most stuff is at 30. * Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I really, really don't want it to fall apart. Good build quality is a must. Prefer something with a good keyboard, since I do a lot of typing and writing, and being able to reliably do it at school would be fantastic. * Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. As a secondary little question, I found this https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-Computer-i5-7300HQ-Graphics/dp/B07FBZXTQT/ref=pd_sbs_147_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07FBZXTQT&pd_rd_r=6Y7WRF2ET3AN7WWXGVWM&pd_rd_w=V1aEN&pd_rd_wg=EhJCY&psc=1&refRID=6Y7WRF2ET3AN7WWXGVWM on Amazon, is this any good? Doesn't have a lot of reviews but the specs look good. Not toooo much of a computer guy, I know the basics but some of it goes straight over my head. [link] [comments] |
Laptop needed for travel, writing and general use! Posted: 03 Aug 2018 04:06 AM PDT Hi all, I'm moving countries in a few months and have been laptop-less for about a year since mine died on me 3 days after my dissertation hand in. I don't need anything too fancy, primarily I will be using it for writing /InDesign/ photography/ work, websurfing and keeping in contact with friends and family. Seeing as I will most likely be moving around a lot, I'd like something fairly lightweight and durable with a long life span if possible. My budget is probably up to £600 depending on the quality. Please help me I know nothing! [link] [comments] |

Productivity and light Photoshop, 14"+, New Zealand, $<2000 Posted: 03 Aug 2018 02:09 AM PDT
The ones I'm looking at right now are: The Lenovo Thinkpad E580, which is on sale in NZ. My preferred config, which is available here, would be: Intel Core i5-8250U, 15.6" FHD IPS 1920x1080, 8GB DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM, AMD Radeon RX 550 2GB, 256GB Solid State Drive PCIe OPAL2.0 M.2 2280. Cost: $1,149 (766.38 USD) Disadvantage: The screen has 56% sRGB coverage, slow SSD, poor battery, kind of heavy Advantage: Cheap enough to buy a decent external monitor The ASUS Zenbook UX430UN-GV029T. Intel i5-8250U, 14" 1080p FullHD screen, 8GB RAM, MX150 2GB, 256GB M.2 SSD Cost: $1,590.40 (1060.80 USD) Advantages with cost: Much lighter at 1.25kg, better battery, ~85% sRBG coverage. However, can't upgrade the RAM. Alternately, the ThinkPad T480s is also on sale here for $1,749 (1166.58 USD) with i5-8250U, 1920x1080 display, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, but integrated graphics. $1964/1310USD for a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX150 2G. Do you think the cost of the zenbook/T480 would justify shelling out for more, considering gaming isn't a factor? At this price, it would be getting into XPS 15 territory (not a fan of XPS) [link] [comments] |
Gaming laptop medion, ASUS, MSI or HP Posted: 03 Aug 2018 01:58 AM PDT All of these are refurbished sub £600 which is in my budget, I don't care which one is fastest of the four, but I need the one with which I will have least problems. I can't stress this enough, nothing ruins my day like a broken plastic that holds a hinge. Posted: 03 Aug 2018 01:27 AM PDT Hiya! So quick question. I'm looking for a cheap and easy laptop to take traveling with me. Mainly I will be using it to write basic documents, watch movies, and browse the internet. I will need the ability to connect via ether net cable and will not have access to wifi for ~6 months. The places I'm traveling to will also be exceptionally dry and it's not uncommon for the static to fry laptops (hence the desire for a very cheap and basic one) I'm considering buying an inexpensive chromebook $~200, a portable DVD player, a dongle to connect to the internet, and an external hard drive to keep my music/podcasts on. Would this be reasonable and affordable? I had the Acer Aspire E 15 but the laptop was too big and heavy to easily throw into my travel bag. Any other suggestions for laptops around $400 that are smaller and easier than the aforementioned laptop? [link] [comments] |

Travel work/gaming laptop that doesn't screem gamer Posted: 03 Aug 2018 12:47 AM PDT I work with computers pretty much every day of my life, and I game casually so I need something that will push through photo editing and day to day multitasking easily sometimes running on battery. I have a PC back home in AUS so please don't recommend a PC, I know the limitations of laptops but I've decided it's the best thing to do Ideally Not a gamer looking laptop, doesn't need to look like a MacBook, just not flashing red and shaped like a space shuttle. Budget: No more than 2.7k Canadian, happy to spend it if there are no alternatives but I'd like to spend less Requirements gaming: Can play current games on at least high at 70-80fps (r6 seige and battlefield 4 and V when it's out) Ram:16gb or more. Battery life > 4hours for basic tasks (email, browsing) If it helps, I'm currently fairly sold on the aero 15x V8 for the colour accurate screen and the 1070 max q but please sell me on others, I'd love to spend less [link] [comments] |

Looking for a budget laptop (or chromebook?) for home use, mostly web surfing. Posted: 02 Aug 2018 04:19 PM PDT
US - Looking for $300 and under. Refurbished would be fine.
Battery life isn't important as it'd be used at home. Don't need a 2 in 1. Would prefer good performance and a large-ish screen.
Weight is unimportant.
I'd much prefer Windows, but I could be ok with Chrome or Mac. Maybe even Linux, if it's easier to figure out than I think it is. I'm not savvy and would like something that works out of the box.
15" is my preference. I could go down to 13". Or lower if there's something that's great in every other way. Screen size isn't a deal breaker.
None of the above.
N/A
I'd like at least 2 USB ports, a SD reader, and of course a headphone jack.
This will be used almost exclusively for internet stuff. Web browsing, flash type games, etc. I'd prefer Windows so I'd have the option of having other programs, but if a Chromebook seems like the best option I'd be cool with that. I won't be storing many files either. It doesn't need to be brand new, as long as it's got some longevity and gets the job done well (phrasing). I'd be cool with a model from a couple years ago. And it doesn't matter how good the touchpad is, I'll be using a mouse. I guess I basically just want something simple, preferably with a large-ish screen, and cheap but not shitty. Thanks! Laptop under 600€ for CS at University and daily use Posted: 02 Aug 2018 11:47 PM PDT Hello!
650€, France
Battery life is important but may be best specs first then battery life.
Video recording and editing, virtual machine and programming stuff, voice recording and music software.
A keyboard that doesn't make noise and makes your finger comfortable; good reliable quality, of course.
I want something not very old that I can go with the next 5 years knowing that I don't have another computer. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
