    Android auto help

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 05:08 PM PDT

Is there a way to stop android auto from "optimizing" my actual phone. The only reason I use it is on my cars touch screen and the way that it changes my phone is really annoying and unnecessary. For example...

    1. Everytime I leave an app it brings me to the screen where I have to swipe up to get to the home screen.

    2. If I plug in my phone to a friends car to charge, it automatically launches android auto, and even after shutting it off it continues to tell me to select android auto from the cars menu.

Also, everytime I use android auto, it automatically connects to my cars bluetooth, even tho its connected through USB. This causes my Gear S3 yo disconnect which is really annoying as I have to reconnect it everytime I get out of my truck.

Honestly I think apple CarPlay was so much better than android auto. Android auto tries to do so much (like changing your phone AND my trucks screen). I think that android auto does a lot of thinks okay, where as CarPlay does a few things very well.

Do apps that require accessibility settings enabled, considerably lag the phone?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 03:31 PM PDT

    Is it true or myth?

If positive, is it the same having enabled accessibility for one app than for five? Does it depend on which app? I'd like to hear some well-founded reasons, instead of guiding myself by placebo perception.

Question about trade in for Note 9

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 04:27 PM PDT

I plan to pre-order Note 9 and use the trade in program to trade in my Note 8 (SM-N950F/DS). My question is can I still do the trade in if my Note 8 is the international unlocked version and not the US version? Has anybody try this kind of trade in in the past? Thanks!

UPDATE 1: I chatted with a Samsung agent. He mentioned, "I would like to inform you that there is no option to trade-in the international device. We accept only the American devices which have the FCC ID." I am not sure if this is a valid statement. The FCC ID for international unlocked version is A3LSMN950F. You can check this in your phone settings, under About.

UPDATE 2: I have read Samsung's terms and conditions for trade in.

    https://www.samsung.com/us/trade-in/terms-and-conditions/

    https://www.samsung.com/us/trade-in/frequently-asked-questions/

It didn't say anything about you cannot trade in an international version phone. The only place where it mentioned FCC is this, " Your Trade-In Device must be labeled with an FCC ID to show that it is certified for use in the United States under applicable FCC regulations. The FCC ID number can usually be found printed somewhere on the mobile device. Sometimes it may be necessary to remove the battery pack to find the number. The FCC ID number can also be found in the user manual for each device. "

My Note 8 (SM-N950F/DS) dose have a FCC ID. If I understand this correctly, if it has a FCC ID then it means the device is certified for use in the United States. If it is not certified for use in the US then there is no FCC ID at all. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Solve my Iphone conversion fears so I can get the Note 9 that I really want.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 12:25 PM PDT

Most of my issues revolve around Imessaging. Every single person I text on a regular basis with the exception of 2 people are IOS users.

    1. Last time I tried to switch, I realized that sending a standard text greatly reduces the image quality. I believe i have found this answer myself on the site. it seems like Google photos may have a way to send a link instead of the actual file in the message? Can someone elaborate?

    2. I have several people that I text often that work in areas with no cell signal. Because Imessaging uses data, they can connect to their works wifi and still get messages in/out to me. I think this is a roadblock that cannot be fixed without asking these people to switch the texting product they use on their iphone which I am not willing to do.

    3. How is bluetooth connectivity in the car? It's pretty seamless on Apple. The audio quality is really good for bluetooth as well.

    4. Has the Exchange email app improved? I know it used to suck a few years ago.

Thats all I can think of right now.

    Thanks

What is the "nobody" system app?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 03:52 PM PDT

Hello, this is my first time posting on this sub. I just recently downloaded "NetGuard - no-root firewall" to restrict Wi-Fi and wireless data access to my apps that don't need it(such as my keyboard), but while looking through my system apps in NetGuard, I found a peculiar app called "nobody". Is this a malicious app? I can't find it while looking through my system apps normally in my phone's settings and I can't find anything on the internet about it. I'm on Android 7.1.1 by the way.

Edit: I think I figured it out. The app seems to be Netguard itself as Netguard isn't on the list of apps in the Netguard app. I also tried this(installimg Netguard) on another phone and it also brought up this "nobody" app. I'm going to be contacting the developer of the app soon to ask about this.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 08:41 AM PDT

I'm running Android Pie on the Pixel 2XL. I've noticed a few new tweaks but not sure what they do.

    Any worth changing?

A few I've noticed are RGB picture mode, Camera Laser Sensor, and Bluetooth options.

    Thanks for any tips :)

    Android 9 (pie) update help...

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 09:54 PM PDT

Let me say I am not sure if this is the best place to post this, it may seem like a rant and it is because I am so bothered right now. I do need honest advice or help if someone can answer the questions below...

You know it is always the little things that drive a person crazy. Most people can take a slap in the face and just go ouch and that is all they feel, they get over it. However give a person a paper cut and they complain forever about it. Well I am no different, I can honestly say I may like the new Android 9 update for my Pixel XL if it wasn't for a few small things and I am hopping someone here can help me make some small changes to it.

First off I honestly can't stand the new swipe down look, the round buttons to highlight things there remind me of IOS and it honestly infuriates me, I know small thing. I want my simple grey icons that turn black when enabled back, does ANYONE know how to change this back to the simple look it was before?

Second and this is the worst one, it really makes me want to throw my phone across the room, if you hit the overview button, the square on the right bottom, you get the new app switcher...I hate this look, I can't STAND IT, to me this is HORRIBLE, yes you may think I am over exaggerating this point but to me it is HORRIBLE. Who did Google hire from Apple to create this POS, another IOS clone. It seems stupid it seems so small it seems I should just deal with this but I preferred the card stack of the last version. I preferred the swipe RIGHT or Left to close an app, PLEASE tell me how to change this back so it looks like an ANDROID again and not look like an IPHONE POS CLONE??? Sure you may want some hard reasoning as to why I hate it, well here it is. I feel the new look and swipes make the phone feel like it is unstable in my hand and that I may drop it when operating with 1 hand. Quick Swiping up makes me feel like I am flicking my phone out of my hand almost. The old flick to the Right or Left, I always swiped to the right to close apps because it kept my phone snug in my hand I knew I wouldn't drop it. The new way I feel like I am going to drop my phone sometimes.

Finally how can I get my old volume controls back? I hate the control being on the side now, I prefer hitting the volume button and the bar showing up at the top of the screen, then I could click the arrow down and change any volume I wanted, half screen then swipe up to close that drop down, not affecting the open app at all. Why not put in a real feature here instead of F'ing with the look, how about giving me a volume control where I can adjust the volume of apps independently of one another. I mean how many times has anyone being listening to some music on Spotify, google play music, Sirius XM...etc then said I am going to open something like Clash of Clans, or Clash Royal, maybe even Plants vs Zombies and wanted to mute the game or turn it down so you could barely hear it in the background and keep your music loud? No lets move the F'n bar and make it so small on the side and when you hit the gear icon it opens FULL SCREEN to modify the standard volumes and then I have to close that volume APP by opening the app switcher and swiping UP otherwise it is open in the background.q

So those are my gripes, can ANYONE please help me? To review the questions...

    1. Is it possible to change the looks of the swipe down buttons "Wifi, Bluetooth, DND, Flashlight...etc" to go back to the Grey when off and bold when on instead of this blue circle thing (taken from Apple)?
    2. Can I get my old app switcher back with the swipe right or left to close apps and scroll up and down to switch apps?
    3. Can I revert my volume control overlay on my screen to the old look instead of the new one?

If someone can help me here or even tell me where to go to get more help on it I will gladly do that.

    Thanks for reading.

    Question about equalizer app

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 09:54 PM PDT

I've been using the Equalizer app by Smart Android Apps and I really like how the bass boost sounds. Unfortunately it is just a slider, so I have no idea exactly how it works, or what frequencys it adjusts.

I'm wondering if there's any way I could see exactly what the app is adjusting with that slider? Maybe by opening the app on a computer? I have a Galaxy S6 Android version 7.0

    Volume constantly shifting. HELP.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 02:08 PM PDT

As of yesterday, my phone is incredibly loud. My media volume is so low that it's almost muted, but it's still loud.

And the sound rises during loud parts of songs and lowers when a quiet part of a song starts. It's a VERY infuriating way to listen to music or watch videos.

Anyone have any solutions or experiencing the same thing? Using a ZTE ZMAX pro. Already tried resetting to factory settings.

I am on a 2nd generation Moto E that is not rooted. I prefer this older version of Hangouts because of the SMS feature that lets me text over wifi using my own number. Any help is appreciated.

Is there any way to view whats on my phone's screen from desktop, without using my phone?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 05:42 PM PDT

I dropped my phone and now the screen doesn't work. Interestingly though, the touch sensor does.

Basically the phone is still completely usable, except for the fact that it doesn't display anything. It still connects to web.whatsapp.com etc.

Any suggestions on how I could view/control my screen without having to touch my phone?

    Thanks!

    Android Pie and Youtube

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 09:04 PM PDT

    Hey all,

Just updated yesterday to Android Pie on my pixel 2 xl, and I finally sat down to watch a YouTube vid. I have a tendency to want to watch it as fullscreen as possible so I always opt to fill the screen with the vid. Well, when I tried it today, it didn't work! I did the normal pinch technique, nothing, looked to see if it was in settings, but I didn't see anything. Anyone else have this problem or anyone know a fix? Thanks so much!

    Google Sign In isn't working

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 08:49 PM PDT

So I am developing an app at the moment and I am trying to get it to sign-in using the Google Sign-in. It doesn't seem to be working. I am following their directions: https://developers.google.com/identity/sign-in/android/sign-in. However it still fails. I have tried using the web app client id as well as the android client id that I generated with the Google Cloud stuff. Do I have to pay for Google Cloud for it to actually work or no?

Blocking DNS Requests which come from the sim card?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 08:11 AM PDT

Hello i have to deal with a really strange problem lately. i noticed on my pi hole that there comes a huge amount of requests( like 7000 per day) from my pixel to 2 addresses ( mplusps.ims.vodafone.com and mpluswf.ims.vodafone.com ). i already googled it and only found 2 threads from here https://www.reddit.com/r/pihole/comments/8mt3kr/identify_strange_requests/ & https://www.reddit.com/r/pihole/comments/8zj5sr/huge_amounts_of_requests_coming_from_seemingly/

The problem got not really solved in both threads so i want to make this new thread to ask how to block these domain requests directly from android.

    here are some useful facts:

    - Requests started like a week ago while i was on android 8.1

-i uninstalled the vodafone app because i thought that the requests are coming obviously from the app(vodafone is a isp and a provider for mobile stuff in germany so its nothing suspecious)

    - i updated to android 9 and the requests were still made

    - i rooted my pixel (so i was forced to do a factory reset) and the requests are still coming

    - when i remove the sim card from vodafone the requests will stop

so when i rooted my pixel the first thought was to edit the hosts file (obivously) but now i am at a point idk what to do except to change my provider. the requests are still going out although i made these entrys in the hostfile:

    127.0.0.1 mplusps.ims.vodafone.com

    127.0.0.1 mpluswf.ims.vodafone.com

so now i hope somebody who reads that, can help me because idk how to block this stuff. i didnt even know that simply a sim card can do such requests in a phone. it would be nice if there would be a way to disable these requests completely or at least block the dns requests directly on the phone (because 1. i dont know what it does and 2. my pi makes some problems with dns resolve on all my devices when there are too many requests)
