PLS HELP - Mom needs a new laptop Posted: 01 Jul 2018 03:44 AM PDT Hi guys so my mom is a stenographer (court type writer) and goes to college at night. She is on a very limited budget of around $300 max (USD). Any help or links of sales on laptops would be greatly appreciated. She needs another laptop in about a week. Total budget and country of purchase: $300 max, USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications and the highest battery life possible. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not entirely too important, somewhat light if possible, not a deal breaker Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. At least 13.5+ Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No games or hardcore software. She needs Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet browser and a 2.0 GHz processing speed with 2GB RAM or 4GB if possible for her Stenography program requirements. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Very good comfortable and responsive keyboard, backlit isn't everything but if possible as I know these are hard to come by on $300 budget laptops. Good touchpad as well. A solid amount of starting HDD or flash/solid state memory. A bright visible screen for a 50 yr old to see. Durable if possible. Needs to be able to hook up to printer and stenography machine through USB ports. Was thinking about the Acer Chromebook 15 in Black as there are a few sales for $200 with free shipping. I didn't know if those Chromebooks can handle the programs from Microsoft Word that she would need, along with good keyboard quality and processing speed. Thank you all in advance! Help deciding laptop $1500 budget Posted: 01 Jul 2018 03:15 AM PDT Hello I am having trouble deciding what laptop to buy for school and light gaming. I will need to use it for coding and to play games like Fortnite and PUBG on low/medium settings. I have done some research on laptops around this price and have found 3 laptops that I like, which are: The Lenovo Yoga 720, Huawei Matebook x Pro, and HP spectre x360. They all have good reviews and around the same specs so I'm having trouble deciding which one to buy. With my budget, I'm able to purchase the laptop models with intel 8th Gen Core i7, 16 gb ram, 512 gb ssd, and thunderbolt 3 ports. However they have different graphics cards The Lenovo yoga 720 has a gtx 1050, the Matebook x Pro has a mx150, and HP has AMD RX Vega graphics. Their battery is also different, but all have long enough battery life to satisfy my needs. These all seem like great laptops and seem like they meet my requirements, but I'm unsure which one to buy. They seem to have mixed reviews due to different build quality and how hot they get when working. Can someone help convince me to buy one of these over the other? [link] [comments] |

For RAM, as long as its not soldered in, I can upgrade to 8 or 16. For ports, as long as there is at least 2 USB ports, I would be fine. Not sure about screens, I can get someone to replace it for me if its possible, but I would just prefer a good screen right out of the box. I am mostly looking for a laptop that emphasis build quality, keyboard and the screen while not being too heavy to carry. Mainly using it for programming in college and I found that I am just sitting somewhere while on my laptop. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:46 PM PDT Hello! I appreciate your suggestions! My 2011 MacBook Air met a great watery end recently (and had been slowing down anyways). I'm starting a nursing graduate program where we take weekly exams on our computers as well as submit assignments, etc., and so I need a laptop ASAP. I don't do gaming or use any specialized programs. I do need something fast and with decent battery life. As much as I can, I'd like to keep the price down--around $1000. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm used to Macs, but am totally up to switching. [link] [comments] |

Need laptop for school, coding and web browsing Posted: 01 Jul 2018 01:41 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: 200 - 300 € Spain Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. good battery, best specifications for money How important is weight and thinness to you? It is important because I will need to take it to school with me everyday Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will be writing code and writing essays and assignments, also watching youtube videos. I want to run Atom, Mamp, Opera and Google docs, slides and sheets If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I don't want to play games on my laptop, I already have a budget gaming desktop for my games. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I would really like my laptop to have reliable build quality, good touch pad. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. My current laptop is the Lenovo Yoga Book, and I am looking for a switch from it because it is cumbersome to use for work and programming and even basic things like watching youtube. I would like a laptop with an SSD but I don't know if I need it or not? 256gb of storage I think is enough. [link] [comments] |
Need portable reliable performance for under $300 for small business Posted: 01 Jul 2018 12:36 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: $250-$300MAX, USA preferred but I'll order from most anywhere for the right price... Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply Best specifications and reliability are tantamount How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Preferably Windows 10, but open to Chrome OS if the offers right Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Light accounting, inventory, and/or production softwares will likely be used most (G Suite apps, QuickBooks, etc.). Light video editing, casual/moderate photo editing, FL Studio/light music production, gaming would be the lowest rung. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not a deal breaker but would be nice to be able to play Fortnite on low or mid settings smoothly Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality, but maybe more-so I would prefer consistent/reliable performance. An HDMI output would be a close second along with 2 or more USB ports (3.0/type-C would be very useful but in the event of conflicting options type C is not a deal breaker, mostly prefer reliable port hardware that won't burn up!) Bluetooth would be really really great. Optical drive not necessary but not opposed to one either. A finger-print reader would def be cool but not required. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. If there is a laptop or 2-in-1 that might be a handful of years outdated, but provides superior performance/reliability/specs than whatever modern/up-to-date similarly priced machine would I would much prefer the "older" rig. Refurbished, NOS (new old stock), and for the right machine even a certified used wouldnt be out of the question. $300-~$330 absolute MAX. I am on a budget:( RAM and/or storage upgrade possibilitys would be a wonderful added bonus. Need something portable that I can reliably operate most if not all software, bookkeeping, or just any small business related needs. Added bonus of no longer wanting to painstakingly edit and manage photos and videos on my phone. If I missed something, feel free to point it out or ask:) I hope I wasn't mind numbingly specific, I did my best to acknowledge all aspects I had considered while still making it clear what my preferences are. Thank you so much in advance! [link] [comments] |
Any chance of XPS 15 9570 going on sale for 4th of July? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 11:30 AM PDT I am planning on purchasing a XPS 15 9570 for college as I plan on using for CAD and other programs for engineering. My school offers on campus repairs for Lenovo Thinkpads, Dells, and Apple laptops, however, I feel like the XPS best suits my needs even though it is a bit expensive. Feel free to give me other options that may be cheaper. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jul 2018 12:17 AM PDT So ive been looking for decent gaming laptops and I saw those 2 2nd hand laptops but I cant seem to decide which one to use. Which do you guys prefer? My budget is about 1300-1500 dollars [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jul 2018 12:07 AM PDT I have done some extensive research on laptops over the past few weeks and I decide on the Spectre x360. Now the thing is, I am not sure whether I should go for the more portable, less expensive but less powered 13 inch, or the less portable, slightly more expensive but more powerful 15 inch. I'm going to study mechanical/computer/chemical engineering in about a year, and I don't know whether the extra graphics card is going to help me. I also want to play civ 6, but that's not really a must. Now, should I sacrifice portability and a few hundred bucks for the 15 inch or just buy the 13 inch? Will I need a graphics card for my major? I'm open to any other laptop entirely as well, but please don't go too below or too above $1000. Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Jun 2018 08:06 PM PDT Hi guys, I am in the market for a new laptop and was wondering what this subreddit's opnion on the price of the XPS 13 during its Canada Day sale was.. Currently the new XPS 13 with 8th gen i5, PCIe 256GB SSD, 8GB Ram and FHD is going for $1399.99 CAD, there is a coupon for online where you can bring that down to $1299.99 CAD. I don't follow Dell too much but the specs is exactly what I'm looking for, i'm wondering if i'm getting a fair deal here or its been marked up and maybe I should wait a little longer? I've also been looking at another laptop: https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-laptops-netbooks-and-tablets/new-inspiron-15-5000/spd/inspiron-15-5570-laptop/ni155570_ftsb_h3403e Dell Inspiron 15, basically the same specs. It is $799.99 CAD but i'm hesistant to pull the trigger on this one because theres been a lot of negative reviews about fan noise, wifi connections, screen, etc.. This model also goes for $879.99 CAD for the 8th gen i7 processor instead of the i5. Very interested to hear what the opinions are about these, and if there are any other suggestions? I'm open to different brands, I just haven't seen any deals from Lenovo, Asus, HP etc that caught my eyes. My laptop usage is for general internet browsing plus very light gaming like league of legends [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 11:40 PM PDT Seemingly new T470s listed for $990 on OfferUp. I'm attempting to haggle the price to $800. Is this a reasonable price for the specs, assuming I'm able to influence the price to my desired cost? Link with specs as provide by the seller: https://imgur.com/a/5KjoqjZ [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Jun 2018 10:10 PM PDT Can I just take it to a local laptop store that can install the HD for me so I don't have to worry about it not working A review on Amazon says about the extra slot, is this just a specific problem with his or will I have the same problem : Extra internal SSD/HDD slot technically works, but it will often disconnect the drive (think USB thumb drive being removed). When I first got the laptop and installed the extra internal hard drive, everything was working really well! This lasted until about February and the hard drive started having intermittent connection issues. At first I had an HDD in there and though that the moving parts were malfunctioning so I put an SSD in there instead. Didn't fix the issue. Then I thought that perhaps the laptop wasn't providing power to the drive after a while due to power saving options and I disabled that. Didn't fix the issue. Maybe I didn't secure the drive well enough and it was moving around too much, so I placed it in a stationary place and got lucky enough to have the drive be recognized again. The issue was solved for about a day but ultimately didn't fix the issue. I still have not been able to access my SSD for longer than a few hours once every few weeks (so far it's been 6 days since it last showed up on my laptop). [link] [comments] |

Should I get a laptop for Fortnite? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 08:54 PM PDT Currently I already have one. I play Fortnite on ps4 hooked up to monitor with kb/m Reason I was thinking of getting laptop is when I'm on the go and want to play. I'm going to college in 2 months. And was thinking I could just take my laptop and leave my ps4 Etc at home. I can play in class or other areas as well. Or I can just take my ps4 Monitor with me to My apt on campus and play when I get home. As I should be focused on my studies anyways and the laptop will distract me. It's just I didn't want to take a Lot of stuff with my on campus and laptop would have been small and easy to carry instead of monitor ps4 etc Right now I have unlimited 3 g T-Mobile hotspot but I may pay $10 per month extra to get 4g lte hotspot for Fortnite. Although my school should have wifi everywhere so I may not need it. Plus T-Mobile may not have good service. Would Fortnite be able to run on 3 g T-Mobile hotspot without lag? How about 4g lte? I got this laptop but am deciding if I should return it https://slickdeals.net/f/11751139-acer-nitro-5-15-6-gaming-laptop-i5-7300hq-256gb-ssd-gtx-1050-ti-552-50-free-shipping I also like playing with kb/m more than pa4 controller. Maybe I can keep the laptop and sell the ps4 and monitor. I just hope this laptop can run future games such as bf5 blops 4 etc [link] [comments] |
