They are currently both about 1500 at bestbuy, which one would be better for a college student that wants to be able to play civ games and run ableton? [link] [comments] |

Need a laptop for mid-to-high end gaming, paired with a GTX 1070 or higher and.... Posted: 03 Jul 2018 01:46 AM PDT I also need advice on which CPU i need to look out for (any suitable i7 processor im guessing) Plis i require 16 GB RAM at least (8GB just doesnt cut it anymore). P.S- I dont mind buying an AMD graphics card/CPU too, but I'm not really sure if any AMD card outperforms the Nvidia 1070 at a similar price range. [link] [comments] |
Commuting to college, have a powerful pc at home, price range $400 - $700. Posted: 02 Jul 2018 09:55 PM PDT I like 13 to 15 inch laptops, and they don't have to be 2 in 1s but they are welcomed. Just need a laptop for portable work for college if you get me. Being able to play rocket league would be a plus but not necessary. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Need a laptop for GIS and programming work (USA $1000 budget) Posted: 02 Jul 2018 08:54 PM PDT Hello, I am needing a new laptop to last me the next several years. I'm studying geographic information systems (GIS) at college and beginning to do research involving programming. I'm almost done with my Bachelor's but may end up going to graduate school. If I do, my laptop will need to last through that. Total budget and country of purchase: $1000 and USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications for the money but not something that will die after a couple hours use. Don't really care for 2 in 1. How important is weight and thinness to you? The lighter the better. I'll be carrying it in my backpack a lot. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15 inches Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Build quality is important. Don't want to have to get another laptop because this one broke. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'll be doing GIS work with some programming involved. I'll be using Microsoft Office of course, but I'll also be using ArcGIS, RStudio, and various Google applications. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. If you feel that a different kind of laptop (such as a different operating system or above my budget) is best for me, feel free to let me know! [link] [comments] |
Need a new laptop for work in web development and light gaming/drawing Posted: 02 Jul 2018 05:01 PM PDT Hi all, I am in need of a new laptop for web development that can perform well when playing games like Witcher and Monster Hunter (does not have to be at the ultimate graphic setting--), vibrant color display that doesn't distort at angles. *Total budget and country of purchase:** $1200 USD, purchase in USA *Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money?** battery life to the max. *How important is weight and thinness to you?** VERY, my current machine weighs like a brick, so I would really appreciate a lighter laptop. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 13'-15", not much bigger. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Run games like Witcher, Skyrim, Monster Hunter; * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** I'm not too particular on this, I just want the machine to be strong enough to run the games mentioned before smoothly, I can compromise graphic quality for better game play. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** I have small hands/short fingers, so a keyboard that is less spaced out would be amazing. Not touchscreen if possible. [link] [comments] |

[US] Need to buy a laptop before July 6th, HELP needed. Posted: 02 Jul 2018 08:42 PM PDT Hello guys I'm from India and I got my relatives staying at Irvine, California and I want them to bring the new Dell G7 with 128gb SSD n 1TB HDD, but they have their flight on July 7th. Where will I be able to get the particular laptop? I think the variant with just the 256gb SSD is available at the local Best Buy, is it possible to add up a hard disk later? Also there's a way to get Global Warranty when I buy something from Dell, will it work if I buy it from Best Buy? any other stores where I can get this variant, or anything better at this price point. Gaming laptop that doesn't look like a gaming laptop Posted: 03 Jul 2018 02:00 AM PDT I don't like laptops that look like alien ships and flat out just tell people that you're a gamer. I can understand the trend but it's just not for me* **Total budget and country of purchase:*\* ~$1000 in the US * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.*\* Best specifications for the money. Just not the XPS because of its camera position. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?*\* Average. Just need to be able to carry it in a backpack and take around. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.*\* Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.*\* 14"-15.6" * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.*\* Going to be coding and gaming on the side * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?*\* Don't have any in particular but a laptop that can handle games if I ever decide to deeply get into one. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?*\* Good SSD, backlit keyboard, and good build quality I'm looking for a laptop that can handle gaming but not look like a gaming laptop. I was looking at the Lenovo Ideapad 720s 14 but I feel like there are better options out there. I was also looking at the Sager NP4850 but it looks too much like a gaming laptop from the cover. I also looked at the Asus Zenbook UX331UN but the top cover shows too many fingerprints because of it's blue design. It would also be preferable to not have a glossy keyboard and to have decently thin bezels. I've seen people recommend the Acer Swift but the bezels just kill it, in my perspective. I'm also down to look at uncommon laptops from less known brands. Never really heard of the Sager laptops yet they look pretty decent. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop for college (Duke ECE/CS major) Posted: 02 Jul 2018 07:32 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: $1,000-$1,400 (though this isn't strict), United States Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. 2 in 1 Form Factor: I feel like it would be cool to have, but definitely not something I would sacrifice performance or battery life to have. Good Battery Life: I'll be away from my dorm a good bit so 8hrs minimum, preferred around 12 How important is weight and thinness to you? As long as I can carry it around easily, it fits in a backpack (Website says 15" sleeve, North Face Borealis), and does not look ugly I'm good. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Computer Science major so Linux is preferred (would like opinions on which OS is best for CS though) Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" max physical size (bookbag) and 1920x1080 minimum resolution Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. CAD and gaming If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? 10xx would be cool, but I'm not looking to mod games a lot or play super new games because I'm not sure how much time I will have for it, gaming is something I'm mentioning for more information but it is not a giant concern. I'd like to get better than console graphics and FPS but again, don't really care too much Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good backlit keyboard for on the go, looking to get external mouse and keyboard for dorm room, durability is important, touch screen would be cool but not a priority Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I would like an anti-glare screen as being able to use my laptop outside without squinting would be great. My school pays for software like Microsoft Office and Adobe so laptops that cost more because of pre-loaded software aren't as desirable. [link] [comments] |

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 compatible with 60 Hz screen? Posted: 02 Jul 2018 09:07 AM PDT i wanna buy a pc and i posted the specs in another post a couple of days ago. the problem is that the pc which im buying (Asus ROG gl702vi-mh72) is only showing with a 60 hz screen online (and a gtx 1080), and the 120 hz screen (with same other specs) is called (Asus ROG gl702vi-wb74). the guy that is selling me the laptop sent me a pic showing me the first name (mh72) yet he swears to me that its a 120 hz screen (which i didnt find anything about online), and he also claims that the 1080 chip is not compatible with a 60 Hz screen to begin with. hes showing me that the online prices are 3,000$ and hes offering it for a 2,200$ (BRAND NEW). i want the laptop im buying to be a 1080 and a 120 Hz screen. the mh72 costs 1,750$ online. so is he lying? do i buy it? are they compatible? i need to make a decision today... WELP!!!! [link] [comments] |

Photographer changing careers and getting into programming looking for a $1k~ laptop. Posted: 02 Jul 2018 06:45 PM PDT Appreciate any help.
UK or Brazil. You can suggest US models and I'll Google equivalents on my own.
Out of those, battery life and specs. Don't care about 2-in-1.
Very important. I exclusively use my desktop at home and the laptop will be mostly used during my new programming classes.
Preferably Windows. Or Linux if it saves me money. Trying to stay away from Macbooks, though.
14" is ideal. I can do with 13" or 15" if they're thin and light, however.
Even though I'm studying programming now, I'm also a professional photographer and video editor, however, the most in that area I'll be using the laptop for is to do Lightroom RAW editing. So some power is good but it doesn't need to be an editing machine. 4K would be a nice extra to have.
If it could play Diablo 3 or Path of Exile at low-medium settings and 60fps, that would be a nice bonus. Gaming is definitely not a priority, however.
That's the most important thing to me: comfort. The #1 reason I hate most laptops are due to back trackpads. A good trackpad is #1 priority to me (my reference of a good trackpad are Macbook Pros but would prefer a cheaper Windows/Linux laptop with a trackpad as good). Next priority is screen: I'm fine with 1080p (4K would be a nice bonus) but it needs to be IPS and have good neutral colors and white balance. Again, Macbook Pros are my reference for good screens but I'm mostly hoping for a Linux/Windows alternative with a screen as good. Third priority is weight/size. I'll be taking that with me daily to my classes and I have a bad back. After all that, I value performance above any other features. Don't care about touchscreen, 2-in-1, overly powerful GPUs.
I feel I've said everything, but to summarize: I'm looking for something around $1k, around 14", needs to be light and thin, have a good and big trackpad and good IPS screen. Having 4k would be a good bonus but I can do without. I'd also like at least an i5 but an i7 is ideal. Would also prefer 16GB RAM over 8GB if possible within my budget. Is there something for me? tldr: $1k windows laptop, needs good trackpad, ips screen and to be thin/light. [link] [comments] |
