Is it dangerous to plug an electonic device into the wrong charger. Posted: 02 Jul 2018 09:21 PM PDT So basically my mom plugged her razor into the wall to charge. The razor says it takes a 3V 0.5A charger, she decided to plug in a random charger that fit that which had an output if 5V 2A. She knew that it was the wrong charger but plugged it in any way. She plugged it in about 5 min before I got their, and it was already feeling really warm. My my grandpa who is an electrician always told me that using the wrong charger is an fire hazard. According to her my grandpa was just trying to scare me. Was it dangerous to plug it in or am I over reacting. [link] [comments] |

CPUZ shows CPU load at 55% Ive used DDU and reinstalled. cannot OC as well, as it just seems like it bogs down the FPS. Even though im not bottlenecking anywhere I can see. any advice? Posted: 02 Jul 2018 07:20 AM PDT I have a 3ish year old HP laptop that was about $400. So nothing great to start with. It has an i5, 4gb of RAM, Windows 10. It started going to shit so I reinstalled windows and bought more 4gb of ram. Now has 8 total. It still runs like shit. Can be typing and it takes a minute for the text to come up. I know an SSD helps tremendously with load time, but would it really do anything to basic functions like typing? Edit - it might be an i3, not an i5 [link] [comments] |
Outlook: Attached PDFs converting to JPEG when replying to an email. Posted: 03 Jul 2018 01:24 AM PDT User is having this weird issue where when they reply to an email thread on Outlook 2007 with an attached PDF, it converts it to a strange JPEG which is completely blank. I have tried a reinstall of windows, adobe reader and office, nothing seems to have fixed it. If you have any ideas, please let me know :) Thank you [link] [comments] |
iPhone Photos & Videos not loading online Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:11 AM PDT Hi all, I have a friend with a weird problem, most media on websites won't load. Only text will load, this is for chrome, Facebook etc, any ideas on what may be causing this? [link] [comments] |
Cursor on the left always!! Windows 10 April Update sucks! Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:09 AM PDT The problem is giving me headache for the last 2 weeks. Whenever I open my notebook with Windows 10 - up to dated - I am unable to type my password, as the cursor goes back to the leftmost position always. So, I have been typing my password from right to left or in backward sequence. Once I am into the OS, the problem is still there. I can't type anything in any application, i.e. Browser, Notepad, etc. If I do so I have to do it backwardly. (If I have to type "Windows", I am forced to type "swodniW" in this manner.) Now same goes for clicking any option or file. If I have to select some file on the rightmost column of Desktop, the selection goes to the leftmost file! I tried everything I was guessing as the problem source. Like, tried Driver update - already updated, no keyboard situation - same thing happens. I even reinstalled Windows 10, when it was in a earlier version the problem disappered. But after the latest update the problem has come back. I even tried to use some other notebook drive; in my device the OS in the other drive caused the same problem. When the other drive got back to its original notebook there was no problem like that. So, is it a hardware problem (I do not use my notebook keyboard, it is detached for almost a year)? What should I do now? Thanx in advanced. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jul 2018 02:09 AM PDT Hey-hey.. So ever since I got my PC back from the shop a few days ago after a PSU short, they gave me a cheap, but alright 800w PSU (Aywun A1-8000) until I get a cooler master or something later.. I've been having AMD driver crashes about 2-3 times during a Fortnite session, and tonight had graphical glitches... So I did a AMD Clean install. But after it went through the midway reboot stage of the install, it restarted with no output from the GPU, and no trace of it in control panel.. I want to reinstall the driver completely, but the AMD installer needs to detect an AMD product to initiate it.. so im at a bit of an impasse. Should I try reseating the card? Could the new PSU be the culprit, or overheating? (I have had the heater going in my room on n' off for a while, can get to 90.C in-game) Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jul 2018 10:20 PM PDT Currently paying for ATT's 6Mbps down plan. I have tested speeds on Youtube and have gotten speeds up to around 28-30Mbps down while when downloading a game on steam I can only hit a max downstream speed of around 7Mbps which is what I am paying for. Could this be due to something like zero rating? ATT has not notified us of any changes to the plan. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

How do I delete Google's records of purchases and reservations I've made at non-Google sites? Posted: 02 Jul 2018 06:25 PM PDT While doing a security/privacy checkup today, I discovered that Google keeps a list of purchases, reservations, etc. at myaccount.google.com. Note that I'm not talking about purchases I made from a Google entity, or reservations I made via a Google app. They comb through your gmail, lift the details of purchases, reservations, and subscriptions that show up in the emails, and compile a list of them for...reasons? I don't want to get into a discussion of whether I should have known that Google would take each order confirmation email I received from Amazon.com purchases and logged it in their own separate archive. I just want to know how to delete it. The help articles basically say that you "might" be able to delete each entry by clicking on each entry and clicking the little "i" information icon, but I have yet to find a single entry that can be deleted that way. I have spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to contact Google directly about this, but I've had no luck. The "contact" page seems to contain no way to actually contact them. Also, once I've deleted these, how do I opt out from having them recorded in the future? Thank you. Edit: If you want to see your own history, go here: https://myaccount.google.com/preferences#subscriptions [link] [comments] |
How would you fix a slow computer? Posted: 02 Jul 2018 11:35 PM PDT My mom sent me to my local church to donate some clothes and I found out they did a summer camp sorta thing. I saw they had a computer "lab" that a lot of the kids were using to play games (fortnite lol) but they didn't have enough for everyone and they had lines to use the computers. They had a bunch of computers that weren't being used and when I asked it was because they were "too slow". Since there's no firewall or anything I presume a bunch of 12-16 year old unsupervised kids must've ruined them with malware so I plan on going tomorrow and running a malware bytes scan to see if that fixes them but in case it doesn't, what would you do to fix a slow computer? Is my new laptop faulty or is the hardware just not up to scratch? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 01:44 AM PDT I bought a HP 15, WIndows 10 laptop last week. It has an AMD 9 CPU, 4GB of RAM, 1 TB HDD and a Radeon R5 GPU. My expectations were low as I know it's a fairly basic system, but It literally struggles to browse the web and is VERY laggy. I've tried dozens of things to speed it up i.e cutting bloatware loose, limiting start-up processes, maximising performance etc. Nothing seems to help. I'm thinking about expanding the RAM and getting an SSD installed, but my CPU seems to always be maxed out anyway, so not sure this will help? Thanks ins advance. [link] [comments] |
Took out my HDD to try an SSD, put back the HDD and it doesn't boot anymore Posted: 02 Jul 2018 08:16 PM PDT So I had win 10 and elementary os on my HDD, then I bought an SSD and installed Windows in it. Now, I want to use my HDD again and it doesn't boot anything, it gives me this message https://i.imgur.com/R4NUzB1.png I tried repairing it with the installation disk and it couldn't fix it And when using bootrec /RebuildBcd, it says that it identified 0 windows installations. Does frequent power cuts damage WiFi router? Posted: 03 Jul 2018 01:04 AM PDT I am using ASUS RT-AC68U high end router but there are frequent power cuts for most of the days. Should I be worried about it getting damaged? Or should I get inverter battery backup? [link] [comments] |
PC might be bricked not sure please help Posted: 03 Jul 2018 12:30 AM PDT So I was updating the bios as I haven't done since I got the motherboard back in around January I would say (Mobo is ASUS Prime B350-Plus with a R7 1700) and reading the notes the newer bios allowed for higher speeds on the memory so I decided to update from like 30xx to 4011. After reading manuals and taking precaution I followed what the instructions said and my PC started to flash and I was even able to restart it only for it to restart again and kinda power on. It's stuck on this weird state where it powers everything like the fans, cpu cooler, and I got it to start the GPU again as that stopped initially but I got it to power. Despite this, it can power all my peripherls such as mic and headset EXCEPT for my mouse and keyboard which have stayed entirely off. I tested it by removing all other peripherals and moving the usb cables to spots I knew would work as power was just delivered only for nothing to happen. I tried the recovery bios and clearing cmos but nothing has worked. I tested for RAM but they work just fine and so does my psu. At this point I don't know if it's my cpu or mobo. TL;DR : Attempted to use EZ Bios Flash 3 and now PC doesn't boot or beep with no display and keyboard and mouse dont work. I tried all the stuff in the manual and even safer online solutions which just add extra steps from the manual. If any extra information is needed I will ofc post it if it means getting my problem resolved before I go buying new parts [link] [comments] |
PC crashing when playing games all of the sudden (980ti) Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:15 AM PDT So my pc has been working without problems for months now, but today I was playing fortnite, no problems, but then my screen turns black but I could still hear my friend on discord. I restart my pc and I didn't have signal, I plug it into my mobo DVI port and I see that my GPU isn't in the device manager anymore. I restart again, the GPU is back I go to start Fortnite, it crashes again. Boot again I test it with GTA V, crashes again. I use DDU to uninstall drivers and install fresh, it seemed to work after that I loaded into fortnite it worked fine with above 200fps. I wanted to see if it would crash again if i stressed it with furmark, sure enough, it crashed. (temps were around 65-70 when it crashed) I have no idea what to do, any help is greatly appreciated! My PC specs are: OS: Windows 10 Cpu: i5-4770k Gpu: Gigabyte Windforce 980ti Ram: DDR3 G Skill ripjaws 16gb PSU: Tt Berlin 650w Motherboard: Z87M Pro4 Asrock [link] [comments] |
Getting my head round a soundbar Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:14 AM PDT Hey there :) Been using my PC speakers (logitech X540's) for like, 10 years now so it's time to change. My current set up is PC and xbox both connected to LG TV through HDMI. PC aso connected to small 22" screen. Logitech X540's connected through headphone jack to Small screen, PC speaker output directed to small TV only. Therefore, xbox sound comes out of LG large tv, PC audio out of logitech X540's only, or small tv if i disconnected headphone jack. For a soundbar, I'd still have PC and XBox connected through HDMI of course, would I then have a single HDMI cable running from TV HDMI ARC port to Soundbar HDMI input, which would then produce audio of whichever input TV was currently running? Or do i need to ensure soundbar has a headphone jack input which would run from small screen tv to soundbar? . extra info. as far as i'm aware, Tv doesn't have optical output. Nor does PC. many thanks! CORRECTION: TV DOES have an Optical output. [link] [comments] |
Windows changed the drive letter by itself Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:12 AM PDT Hi reddit, I could use some help. Basically I have windows 10 on my hard drive and everything was fine for months until yesterday I got blue screen of death as I booted it up. I didn't think much of it, maybe it was a virus or something so restarted, windows booted up and I scanned the whole computer with Windows Defender. Nothing was detected. So I carried on using it. (Don't know if this is relevant but I used sleep quite often because I wasn't much using the computer.) On the next start up, suddenly the start up recovery is starting and trying to fix errors. It was unable to. So I went into command prompt and checked and all my files were gone on the current partition. I started freaking out because I had important documents there but turns out, for some reason windowd assigned recovery partition it made as a drive "C:" and windows with all my stuff in drive "E:" I tried using start up recovery, reinstalling windows with option to keep files, system restore but all ended up giving me errors. I also used partdisk which confired that my C drive is only like 300mb and my E drive is my actual drive. Tried to changing it using this, it says the letters were assigned but nothing changed. I tried using disk management too but it won't start. Any ideas? Tldr: my windows changed recovery partition as a drive "C" and the partition with my windows and files is now in drive "E". Any ideas how to reverse that? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:10 AM PDT after extracting,it pops up a window title setup.exe and shows "The windows installer service is unavailable. Another application may be running set up." PC won’t power on, new PSU hasn’t helped Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:10 AM PDT Ok, so I moved home from university and I'm guessing my PC got knocked in transit because it won't power on, I've tried plugging everything out and putting it back in, changing the RAM sticks around, and today I got a new PSU delivered and that hasn't helped which is really frustrating. The first time I moved the RAM sticks around, the PSU fans twitched for about a second, but nothing else has shown any signs of life since, there's no lights or noises or anything. I just don't know what to do. It was working fine before I moved it. I got a new PSU because I did the paper clip trick and it appeared my old PSU was dead. Any advice will be helpful. GTX 1060 GB - No display on startup issue Posted: 03 Jul 2018 03:54 AM PDT Have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6GB in a ASUS Z170-E Intel Z170 motherboard Since purchase/build I have had non stop problems. The PC turns on with no other apparent problems, but I get no display. Multiple reboots may sometimes cause it to boot with a display, but i'd often get visual corruption at some point soon after. I've tried another GPU in the same slot and it worked with no problems at all. I RMA'd the gpu but it was returned after testing as they found no faults with the card. I found out that if I held the GPU up a little during startup, it worked a little better - so I bought a support stand and it now works more reliably... but I still need to open up the case and adjust the stand (trial and error to find the right place) every few reboots. It's a pain in my ass and i'd love a more permanent solution if anyone has any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
