Can I use Robolectric as Android Simulator for complete app test today? Posted: 31 May 2018 12:41 PM PDT Following the Google I/O announcement about Project Nitrogen and Robolectric 4.0 as an Android simulator, can I do this today, or is it coming later this year? I already have a suite of espresso tests that I use to test my entire app, either on a phone or an Android emulator. I'd like to run the same suite of espresso tests against the Robolectric Android simulator (mainly so I can run the espresso tests in my CI build), but I just can't quite see how to actually do this. I'm already familiar with Robolectric from using it for non-espresso activity/fragment "unit" tests. [link] [comments]

Code to detect if user is in Europe? Posted: 31 May 2018 03:07 PM PDT For GDPR stuff. Anyone can share code how to to it? I know admob has a consent dialog that detects if users are in Europe, but i need it for other consent functions. I tried a few things but i failed, and can't find any libraries that do this [link] [comments]

Can you help me understand this smali code? Posted: 31 May 2018 03:38 PM PDT Good Afternoon, I am learning how to read smali code for a pet project of mine and I'm having trouble understanding how invoke-direct works or translates back to java... I've been reading this website and the dalvik opcode page and seem to still have trouble understanding it fully. http://androidcracking.blogspot.com/2010/09/examplesmali.html http://pallergabor.uw.hu/androidblog/dalvik_opcodes.html Ex invoke-direct {p0}, Ljava/lang/Object;-><init>()V What I have understood so far is that {p0} is the prameter(s) that get sent to the function. I'm assuming of the object class? What I also don't understand is the <init>()V... I get that the function dosn't return anything due to the V at the end but what does the <init>() mean? I get the feeling the int is being casted... like in C. Thank you for the help :-) Sorry for asking such a basic question... I feel kind of silly for asking it but Im really lost... :-( [link] [comments]
Starting android development in 2018 - Kotlin, Flutter or normal Java Posted: 31 May 2018 12:18 PM PDT Hi! Having experience in programming in C# for work, I've started doing a little course for app development for Android recently. I've been seeing a lot of talk for alternative ways to make android apps like flutter or Kotlin. What would you say would be the smartest language to learn currently, which one has the biggest future? [link] [comments]

Saving a csv/txt file on Android Wear Posted: 31 May 2018 08:21 AM PDT Hi guys! I have to collect IMU sensor data from an android watch and retrieve it onto my computer as a csv/txt file for data processing project that I have. I was able to do this on the phone, since I can directly access the files, but I am having a lot of trouble developing it for the watch... I was hoping if any one of you nice devs can help a poor student out! Thank you! [link] [comments]

Can I get WiFi noise from Android phone? Posted: 31 May 2018 10:40 AM PDT Hi Experts, I am working on new WiFi testing app that will provide WiFi network and connection reliability, I have my equation figured out on Linux and I am building same for Android.. My big hangup is the RF noise and the Phy rate (Bit rate) for WiFi, I am planning on using custom AOSP Oreo so I can get more control over the OS on my Google pixel 2 phone. Any Idea's ? Posted: 30 May 2018 07:17 PM PDT I've been seeing a lot of advocacy from Google (especially the ConstraintLayout team) for the more advanced layout editor. Is this something that users actually want, or is it Google's way of theoretically trying to make onboarding new Android devs easier? IMO I'd never use it for a layout, even to mock one up. I'm much faster with XML, but wanted to hear other opinions on this. [link] [comments]

Do I have to inform that I am using only npa inside EU in my app? Posted: 31 May 2018 12:23 PM PDT I use the sdk to ask for location, if outside of EU I show regular ads, if inside I show npa. Maybe inform them of this in the policy in the listing? I rather avoid showing pop ups inside the app. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 May 2018 12:16 PM PDT Hey Guys, I know very little about coding so I decided to create an app by hiring a development company through Upwork. I think the app is moderately complex, I don't want to spam this forum by self promoting it but it's basically a real-life role playing game based on the concept of gamifying life. Everything went alright during the development but, after publishing it, it seems that the developers aren't really putting in much effort to fix crashes (they provide 2 months of support after publishing) and I am not sure if they built the app using best practices as sometimes it is a bit laggy and has caused my phone to restart twice. I am therefore wondering if I should hire another programmer to look over the code and verify that it is well built and optimized, mainly to give me his opinion but, if need be, change developers as I am starting to loose trust in the current developer's capabilities. By the way, we are using Firebase to get crash reports so they have the logs to the crashes but still have trouble fixing them. *How do you recommend that I check the quality of my current developer's work? * How hard is it for a new developer to assess if the app has good performance and possibly correct source code if the code has 1) no comments on it and 2) if it has comments. For example, if an app took 100 hours to code, how many hours does it take to understand the app and be able to optimize it. * Also, what could cause an issue to disappear after a crash on the same build? I was having issues until the app crashed and then after opening it again the issues did not reappear. Obviously I would rather stay with the current developers and I will speak to them to let them know that they gotta step up their game but I'm really thinking about double checking their competency. App Issues: - App is a bit laggy -Crashes sometimes when starting - Once in a while the app stops responding - My phone quickly restarted twice while I was messing with and closing the app -The app messed with the Overview as closed apps kept reappearing in the background until the app crashed. Thanks [link] [comments]
NoClassDefFoundError in Google Consent SDK Posted: 31 May 2018 11:45 AM PDT Hi guys, I've tried to integrate consent SDK into my app and it seems to work fine. However I checked opened issues on github and found that it throws NoClassDefFoundError exception since compiler automatically adds Objects.requireNonNull(this); Do u have any idea how to change this behaviour? since Google doesnt seem to worry much about issues opened [link] [comments]

Total noob asking for advice from knowledgable strangers Posted: 31 May 2018 06:58 AM PDT Hi, so I have a somewhat limited knowledge of app development (I took a couple of CS courses in college and tried and failed to make an app a few years), but I have an idea for an app that I'd like to see if I could make reality while practicing some dev skills. Basically, users at a college who want to meet new people get matched with other users from the same college and the app assigns them a place to meet for lunch on campus at a specific time. It would be like some weird hybrid of facebook and tinder but magnitudes less sophisticated. I'm not looking for anyone to build the app for me, I just want to know what resources I should look into to start making steps toward actually building the app. Are there any specific libraries or frameworks I should use? Should I learn PHP or something? I want to know how to get started so I can learn what I need to learn. Also if anyone knows that this is definitely already a thing I'd love to know what it's called.
