Internet slows down when PC connects to the local wifi.

    Posted: 02 May 2018 02:06 PM PDT

We have a strong 100 Mbps connection all through the morning to the time I turn my laptop on (at around six pm) and the network slows down for all devices. Without even opening any programs or using the internet, it drops from 100 to about 10 - 14 mbps. (Neighbors don't have this problem so it isn't the network load.) I've ran Malwarebytes, thinking it was some fishy mining program or something, but it was clean. This has happened recently, noticeable from Sunday (although I haven't downloaded anything in the time.) I'm on Ethernet as well.

    a problem with YouTube

    Posted: 03 May 2018 01:17 AM PDT

I have encountered this situation a second time in about a month. I try to open the YT website, but all I get is this: https://i.imgur.com/Qaep9Q4.png

I can't click anything. I tried deleting cookies - doesn't help. I did however stumble upon a solution the first time this had happened - it was some sort of keyboard shortcut that reloaded the site and it was okay. Now I can't remember the shortcut or find it on the internet. Because of that I have tried the following things:

    1. Deleting cookies.
    2. Signing out/it in to my account through google.
    3. Disabling hardware acceleration.
    4. Disabling AdBlock.

The only way I can watch YouTube now is through incognito mode, and I don't want to keep doing it. Can somebody help with with the shortcut or any other way to fix it? I would very much appreciate it!

don't think that it matters, but I have a windows 10 laptop, Chrome browser.

The domain name that I want to acquire is currently hijacked by a hacker group. What are the steps or methods I can try to obtain the domain?

    • Do I contact the original owner of the domain
    • Do I contact the DNS provider
    • Do I contact the domain registrar

edit: When I visit the domain I want to get, it literally says something like Hijacked by X hacker with a stupid hacker background

Windows Defener keeps removing something but it doesnt tell me what it is

    Posted: 03 May 2018 04:22 AM PDT

And so far i've found no way to check it.

It is not listed in the history->quarantine/all detected items.

Nowhere, it just keeps removing something but no idea what.

And i need to know what exactly it is, because its probably not a virus, but Windows Defender thinks it is and keeps removing it.

Need website/app for viewing Twitter replies/retweets without logging in

    Posted: 03 May 2018 04:22 AM PDT

Twitter is absolutely fucking trash. This is such fucking bullshit. Please direct me to a site/app that circumvents the "I AM OBNOXIOUS. YOU NEED TO SIGN IN TO DO THIS." fucking blockade.

"Make an account to do this! I don't care that you're never ever going to add friends or tweet yourself - you still need an account just to read other people's bullshit... but then the next time you try to log in your account will absolutely be suspended because you were inactive, because we're stupid fucking mongoloid retards that can't think anything through."

Can't sync Exchange calendar on Samsung J3.

    Posted: 03 May 2018 04:22 AM PDT

I configured an Exchange e-mail on a employee's phone, like I always do here at work, and I noticed that the calendar events are not synchronizing. I just selectd to sync calendar and not e-mails and contacts, and nothing changes. I did the process a lot of times, I rebooted the phone, and nothing.

I tested on an iPhone and it's working on the first try.

Does anyone had a problem like this?

    Sorry for my english, friends.

eventID 4 and 3, circular kernel context logger

    Posted: 03 May 2018 04:14 AM PDT

Well this is one of those things that can mean nothing or everything.

But since the spring update im seeing those 2 events at startup.

EventID 4 refers to the shutdownCKCL.etl reach the max limit and so eventlogging might get lost.

immediatly followed by eventID3 where the circular etc session is ended with an error code 0x0000188.

Fairly general if i have to believe google, i dont see anything wrong or weird happening, but it still bothers the hell out of me.

I've increased the readyboot max file size from 20 to 40mb.

The circular kernel context logger itself doesnt have a max limit set, so im guessing its unlimited?

The shutdownCKCL.etl file does indeed have a 20mb limit.. but i cant find where i can increase that filesize? (is that even possible?)

The only other tips i've found was renaming in windows/panther, setup.etl to something like .old or whatever, and reboot.

But considering it seems to refer to the shutdownCKCL.etl, should i rename that one?

I'm not sure what im doing regarding this so i dont want to rename anything if it could be a bad thing to do.

I can remember having seen such issues before, usually after big updates.. but normally it goes away the next day when things have settled down, so to speak.

Any ideas what i can do to fix it? Or if im missing something Obvious?

    Help? :P

Experiencing Blurry Quality On Twitch Stream Using OBS

    Posted: 03 May 2018 04:12 AM PDT

Recently I upgraded my internet to 500 down / 50 up which is great, I have been tweaking with some of my OBS specs running x264 / 2500 bitrate / 720 @ 30FPS .... but noticed a annoying amount of blurr in my game.

I then tried using the NVENC encoder with similar specs and still got the same result. I guess where I am getting at is, will increasing the bit rate help eliminate the blur? I play mainly Overwatch (Low graphics) and occasionally PUBG, R6 Siege and various strategy games.

    Heres what I run: R7 1700 8 core 16 thread cpu Gtx 1060 6gb video card 16 Gb of ram 256GB m.2 NVME ssd 1 TB HDD

Any tips or tricks I am open to trying to get better quality!

    Third-Party Solution VS Replacing Monitor.

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:51 AM PDT

Hey! This is my first time posting to this subreddit, so I'm not sure whether this is technically against the no-comparisons rule.

I've very recently upgraded my PC, and the GPU (1050ti) only accommodates HDMI. This is not really a problem to most people, but my monitor is old and only supports VGA.

I've surfed through Amazon, and almost immediately found various under-10$ ways around this problem. But the technician that I've consulted is strongly against "using third-party components," and suggests that I get a new monitor entirely.

I've burnt out my budget and can not afford a monitor anytime soon, and that is only secondary to the fact that my 768p DELL monitor is still in perfect shape. Do you suggest that I listen to the guy and save enough to upgrade my monitor?

    TL;DR:

Monitor doesn't support HDMI and GPU doesn't support VGA. Under-10$ solution, which a tech is strongly against, being as it is, a third-party component. Listen to the guy and outdo my budget for a new display, or take the cheaper call?

    Thank you very much!

    Can't access wikia websites

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:51 AM PDT

Been a few hours since I can't access wikia websites on my computer and phone. Don't think it's my connection speed since I can access other websites. Don't think it's a firewall problem since I can't access wikia on different devices and different networks (wifi vs. 4G data). Don't think the website is down either.

So what could be the issue? I can still access them yesterday.

    Windows 10/Driver issue?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:50 AM PDT

In January my laptop with Windows 10 stopped loading on the please welcome screen (the circle kept spinning, but nothing happened, the HDD light wasn't blinking.) Without giving much thought to it, I did a clean install and everything worked for a bit.

I can't remember when exactly, but about a month later, the same thing happened. Sometimes it went past the please wait screen and froze entirely on the welcome screen. So I dug a bit deeper and fixed it by deactivating start up programs and I found a driver that caused a problem. It was my Nvidia graphic card drivers. So I rolled back to an older version and it worked.

Until a week ago. I was sick at that time, so I couldn't bother digging around, so I did another clean install. Which only lasted until today, where I'm back where I started. (The nvidia drivers haven't been updated, the driver date and version are the same as when I first did a clean install)

    Safe mode always works.

During all this time, I've tried:

    • System restores, they never fixed the issue but sometimes the restore was successful and sometimes it gave errors)

    • Unplugging peripherals and battery (faulty battery caused a lot of problems with my previous laptop)

My specs: HP Pavillion (no idea about the model, if there is a way to find it in safe mode, lemme know)

    Windows 10 Home x64

    Intel i5-4200

    8GB RAM

Intel HD card (again, not sure where to find the model)

Nvidia Geforce 740M with 388.73 drivers

Trouble with motherboard in new build, could it have been the CPU?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:44 AM PDT

    So I built a new system -

    CPU - i5-7600k

    Mobo - MSI Z270 tomahawk

    RAM - Corsair Memory — 16GB (1x16GB) DDR4 2133MHz CL15 DIMM

    GPU - 1070ti

    PSU - 750W

The motherboard wasn't posting at all, did a RMA (ebuyer) which they accepted, came back with bent pins saying that this invalidated the warranty (pins weren't bent when I sent them, had photographic proof) so I scared them saying I would take legal action and they said to send it back again and they'll give me a new one.

My worry is, I bought the CPU from /r/HardwareSwapUK and I wondered if the CPU could've killed the motherboard? I have no way of testing the CPU, or is getting a faulty motherboard not as rare as I thought?

When I booted the system I wouldn't get to the bios at all, no graphical output, and the ezdebug light would stay red on the CPU with all the components in, no components in, just the CPU, every combination really.

Do you guys have any advice? I've now got my old CPU, mobo and RAM in my new build and it's working fine so all the other parts are fine.

Question about Windows 10 volume changing

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:41 AM PDT

Is there a way to stop Windows 10 scaling the audio of applications as you increase/decrease the device volume?

For example, my device volume is 100. Spotify volume is 20. If I set device volume to 80, my Spotify volume will be 16. What I want, however, is to just change the max volume when I change device volume (so every application with volume above 80 gets set to 80, the rest stays as it is). Is there a way to do this in Windows 10?

Lavalier mic making high pitched sound and not working with certain sound cards

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:40 AM PDT

Recently got a lavalier mic from powerdewise and the only way I got it to work on my pc (win 10) is with the sound control thing that I got from the hyperx cloud II headphones. The problem is that with that thing the mic volume is too low, so I bought something similar to this but when I plugged the mic in it played a deep static sound and no voice was transmitting. Then I bought this which I currently have and when I plug the mic in it makes a high pitched sound and also transmits no voice. Tried reinstalling realtek and nvidia audio drivers but it didn't work. I'm so confused as to why it works on the sound card I got from the hyperx headphones but these ones don't? If there was a way to up my mic volume with the hyperx sound card I'd be happy too.

Samsung earbuds not working on Moto z play.

    Posted: 03 May 2018 03:38 AM PDT

I have a pair of Samsung headphones that I use with my phone and they've worked fine for a year, but now they stopped working but only with my phone. They're fine on my laptop. I tried them on my brothers phone, he has the same model, and they don't work on his either. I tried a different set of headphones because I can't ride on my bus without music, and they worked perfectly. It's only the Samsung earbuds and they work with everything except Moto Z Play.

BSOD when playing some of the games, what is common factor(s) among them?

    Posted: 02 May 2018 11:50 PM PDT

I am having BSOD when playing games, I can render a 3 hour video while still playing some of the games without problem but some of the games just cause BSOD left and right. I have tried the usual stuff (like updating and memtest, etc. So thanks but that is not helping) and I am only here to try and figure out what is the common factors for those game that caused BSOD.

So games that never have any trouble even if I played 10 hours straight or played 50+ hours without issue (only counted after the first BSOD):

    • Path of Exile

    • Subnautica

    • Overwatch

    • Ori and the Blind Forest

Game that cause BSOD (it can happen 1 hour of playtime, usually happens when I am entering a loading screen, picking up items, confirming something, or in rare cases, few minutes after I close the game):

    • Dark Souls 1

    • Xcom 1

    • Xcom 2

    • DOOM 2016

What is the common factor here? There must be something I am missing that caused some games to Blue Screen and some of them dont.

In case you want to know the full story, here you go for the Tom's Hardware post.

    • WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200rpm 64MB 3.5 Inch HDD
    • Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 SSD
    • Antec NeoEco II Series NEO-ECO2-550 80Plus Bronze 550W PSU
    • MSI GeForce® GTX 1070 GAMING X 8GB GDDR5
    • Corsair VENGEANCE® LED 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3000MHz C15 - - White LED
    • AMD RYZEN R7 1700 3.7GHz 16M L3 8 Core 16 Thread 65W AM4
    • Gigabyte GA-AB350M-Gaming 3 AM4 M.ATX
