Where can I buy a Windows 7 key? Posted: 28 Apr 2018 04:26 PM PDT I'm planning to switch back from Windows 10 to 7 until the end of extended support. However, I don't have a key for it. Where can I buy a genuine key for this OS without getting ripped off? [link] [comments]

Time do buy a new notebook... or at least a new HDD? Posted: 28 Apr 2018 02:13 PM PDT I have this notebook, it's actually my moms. Right now, my mom came to me like "hey son it gave me some blue square warning, turned it off by itself and now I cant turn it back on help plz" Well, I assume it went BSOD, but my mom said no to that, so it's either a BSOD regardless of what my mom thinks, or it was Kaspersky showing some message, since it's warning windows are kind of baby blue I guess. So anyway, tried to turn the thing on. It's Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits by the way. And it keeps stuck on "Starting Windows" screen, never freezing, just eternally loading. Then I said "fuck it" and took my Windows 7 cd installation, ready to format this piece of shit... ...just for it to eternally load the installation process, right after selection the language and keyboard format. WHAT GIVES??? Now, a minor (or major) detail: this notebook has a problem with it's HDD, because the S.M.A.R.T. check gives me a error warning every time I start the notebook, I just press ESC to skip it. That's why I think I should get a new HDD instead of a whole new notebook. This is a Sony Vaio from 2007, which is funny, because I remember using it yesterday, because we changed our wifi password so I went on my mom's PC (which's this notebook) to change it for her and it was working fine (with some slow moments, but still) and then BAAAM I can't even format because the instalation disc is stuck on a loading screen. And no, the disc is fine, I can garantee it, because I just tested it on my computer (I cancelled the installation on my PC after it loaded, obviously). So what do I do? a) Buy a new HDD, throw this shitty one away, and reinstall Windows b) Buy a new notebook and throw this one in the thrash c) Neither. Just go to a repair shop and ask them what to do. Thanks, much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Windows 10 boots to non existent monitor Posted: 28 Apr 2018 06:44 AM PDT Everything on my dual monitor win 10 pc was working until i moved the pc. Once i moved it my main monitor stopped being recognized by windows. No problem you'd think, just switch everything over to the second monitor. POST and the actual win 10 loading screen show up on the second monitor but windows doesn't boot to it and I can't log in. The login screen has always been on the main monitor which isn't working now. I booted into safe mode and removed the password login thinking that windows would boot directly into the second monitor but nothing. Once the computer and windows have finished booting the second (and only monitor now) is black. In safe mode there is only one monitor recognized but display settings seems pretty limited. Has anyone come across anything similar? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Apr 2018 11:42 AM PDT Greetings all, I had a question about how mobile hotspots work in windows vista, 7, 8, 8.5, and 10. (this question is in regards to all these windows operating systems) If I enable the mobile hotspot on my windows computer and another device detects the network, will any information from my windows computer (such as the mac address, or any other information from my windows computer) be detected and possibly stored in the other device? And what information from that other device (such as the mac address, or any other information from that device) will be stored in my windows computer? Does anything change, and/or any additional information get stored in either my windows computer or that other device if that other device connects (or tries to connect) to my mobile hotspot? Thanks for any information on how any of this works. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Apr 2018 05:26 PM PDT My mouse and tablet, both wired, stopped working for a few seconds as my phone was picking up a signal and making the typical buzzing sound (I put it next to the speakers), then the drivers for them reinstalled and they started working again. Posted: 28 Apr 2018 03:12 AM PDT So is been a week or so, but this folder of mine keeps reappearing after I delete it. I don't know what it caused by to reappear, but sometimes it reappear when I turn on the first time of the day the PC, or after when I open the file manager to check some files. But anyway, the content of the file is empty. How it started? - Well it started when I wanted to transfer some photos - I previously imported in my PC - to my USB. When it was done, everything was fine at first. Days passes and the folder of my photos started reappear in the desktop - from that day, just madness. [link] [comments]
Cortana refuses to use Edge on both my computers. Only opens IE. Posted: 28 Apr 2018 02:00 AM PDT I have 2 computers, both fully updated, both set with edge as the default browser, with my account, and both opening search results in IE. I tried my girlfriend's computer, with her account, and it works fine. I've tried changing the default browser to and from chrome, ie, and edge; I've tried using edge-deflect; I've tried disabling and re-enabling Cortana; I've tried disabling and enabling search/fetch/security services that might affect searching; I've tried changing the default protocols manually; I've tried making a new user account and resetting it up... Basically I've tried everything except making a new Microsoft account, which I'd really like to not do. [link] [comments]

CANNOT create WINDOWS bootable USB any version Posted: 28 Apr 2018 09:35 AM PDT I am at a total loss on this one. All of this has been done with the exact same USB drive. Running Windows 10 Pro that has a clean install (was done via WDS) and am trying to create a bootable Windows Server 2008 R2 USB drive so that I can put it on an old computer. Here's the thing... I CAN'T make the USB bootable when I put a Windows ISO on it. I tried Windows XP, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2, Server 2012, Server 2016. I CAN however make various Linux ISO files bootable without any problem. I have done a diskpart clean and reformat of the USB drive, wrote a Linux ISO, and it booted Linux fine. Did the same thing again with a Windows ISO (Server 2008) and it didn't work as bootable. I've tried doing it on two different computers and each time the Linux USB works and Windows does not. I tried downloading Windows Server 2008 directly from MS and still have the same issue. Edit: also, I know the iso files are good because I was able to create virtual machines without any problems edit2: just got to a menu in the firmware to boot from usb and it says no bootable disk found. just put windows server 2008 on it using linux. i don't understand. Any suggestions? Ideas? BTW my post history is VERY NSFW (it's Saturday but you never know who is still working) [link] [comments]
[Help] Some apps don't maximize properly with lates Spring Updade Posted: 28 Apr 2018 09:09 AM PDT For some reason, latest spring update build, with all available updates applied (build number 17134.5), is making some apps misbehaving when maximizing them (specifically, in my case, Telegram Desktop and Spotify). They won't fully maximize, there's always a space between the top of the screen and the (supposedly) maximized window of these programs. Very very annoying. Is this a known issue? How do you do web development on windows? (I'm coming from a mac) Posted: 27 Apr 2018 11:27 PM PDT I recently switched to windows and one of the biggest pains I'm having trying to figure out is how to develop efficiently on windows via "terminal" I would love to learn how other web developers using frameworks such as reactjs are developing in windows and what their setup is, and of course how you actually setup these environments locally. Posted: 28 Apr 2018 03:08 PM PDT Windows for the past 3 weeks has been trying to give me some security update. I continuesly click no because when I try to download it, it downloads for an hour than says it can't download because I don't have all the right devices. Finally it manages to make me accidently click "restart now" after pausing my game and popping up a window. It starts to restart and I know this will last atleast an hour so I just shut it down. I turn it back on and my computer says "restoring old version of windows" it finishes then starts to boot up my pc like normal. Except as soon as it is about to pop up my usual login screen it starts booting up all over again (not completely shutting down obviously, just going back to the screen with the name of my motherboard and starting up from there). As soon as it is about to hit my login screen it restarts this whole login process over again, I hit a bunch of keys one time and it asked me to select a booting device, then said no bootable device after selecting one. IDK know what to do and I think that it is absolutely absurd there was no option to stop asking me for the update. [link] [comments]

Windows 7 won't connect, and even detect WiFi networks. Posted: 28 Apr 2018 04:51 AM PDT Windows 7 won't detect the wireless network I want to connect to. When I first start up the computer it does detect the wireless network, I press on it and it says the computer couldn't connect to the network, after this the network disappears from the available networks tab until I shut it down and restart only for the same thing to happen.
