[UPDATE] My laptop order has been stolen Posted: 30 Apr 2018 12:04 PM PDT So last week I posted a story of my order being stolen. Here's the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/8fer9z/my_laptop_order_has_been_stolen/. Basically, someone else took my order and signed on my behalf, and I have no idea who this person is, so I don't have my shipment. I contacted FedEx, they said they would investigate further and get back to me but no word yet. I also contacted Dell and at least they were more understanding. I talked to two customer care representatives and basically demanded a full refund. They told me that a refund would take a few weeks to process, but they would be willing to send me a reshipment with express delivery at no further cost. I said, I don't trust your delivery process, how will I know that this new shipment is guaranteed to reach me? They didn't give me any solid response, just that they track reshipment much more closely and that I should expect the new package in 3-5 business days. I told them to make sure the person delivering it knows not to give it to anyone except for me, with my name, and my signature, and they just agreed but I don't know if this will even be enforced. I am a little confused because I thought they would be querying my request only after processing my police report (which I was asked to send them). Apparently the report hasn't even been processed by Dell yet but they're still sending me a reshipment. They also told me I should expect a call or email from them tomorrow to talk about it in more detail. Again, they keep reassuring me that I will get the reshipment this week and I asked them if even this one is lost, will I get a full refund? They kept saying I will be guaranteed to get this shipment, and if I don't then they would give me the refund but they'll have to look into further investigation, which may take longer. I'll keep this updated. Have any of you gotten a reshipment? How did that process go? How long did it take? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Eluktronics PA71 Series 17.3-Inch NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX Gaming Laptop Posted: 30 Apr 2018 11:22 AM PDT So after searching for a 17inch 1440p 120hz with a 1070 I FINALLY found it (and its really preety), but I cant find one star or 2-3 star reviews what bother me, so I just want to ask, how reliable is this laptop? Or the company. And a random stat there was "FHD Quality: 60%?? whats that about? [link] [comments]
Best 2 in 1 for photo/video/audio editing on the market? no budget limits Posted: 30 Apr 2018 09:12 AM PDT I had my mind set on the new XPS 15 2in1 for some months now, and was just waiting the release but now with all the bad reviews I've seen I'm surelly rethinking it. So that being said, which one would be the best to buy now or in a few months No budget limits ... I mean I don't want to expend something I would on a macbook (it's not 2in1 though) but for common sense... but I don't think any other can get as expensive as a macbook pro so... thats the budget [link] [comments]

gaming capable laptop for college Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:56 PM PDT Im currently looking for a laptop that Im gonna use throughout college, and I need yall's advice. My budget is <2k, but the cheaper the better. Im not planning on buying a seperate desktop for gaming, so I want my laptop to be gaming capable. pubg is the most demanding game I play, and it only need it to run it on med settings. I also need it to be light enough so that I can carry it around for school/casual uses. In terms of screen size, Im still debating whether I should get 13 or 15 inches. I currently use macbook air 13 in and its perfect for daily uses but i dont think its big enough for gaming. If I get 13 in I will probably get a seperate monitor to leave in my dorm. Because of portability, I have mainly been looking at high spec laptops rather than gaming computers. I have been leaing towards Razer blade because it seems to have the best value for its price. But Im a bit skeptical in its reliability because razer is not as mainstream as other brands. Ive also looked at flagship models of other brands like dell Xps and Hp spectre, but the majority of those laptops have integrated gpu. The ones with gtx 1050 & up are mostly out of my budget. Is the Razer blade a good choice, or are there better options? Which aspects am I not considering? Any points of advice and recommendation are welcome! Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2018 10:25 AM PDT Both laptops are 17.3 UHD, 16gb and these differences: HP - i7-8550u, 1TB SSD m.2 PCIE, MX150, no TB3 ~1850€ Acer - i7-7700HQ, 512GB SSD (think it's not PCIE), GTX 1060, have TB3 ~2150€ I don't play games so GPU is not important. Have multiple applications opened. Share screen to 32" 4k@60hz extern display. Atm I have i7-4700HQ CPU in my laptop and I'm afraid that moving to HP envy with i7-8550U (less threads) will be bad. I have many applications opened at same time. Also worried about fan noise (read that one guy returned it because of that). I wouldn't like to have above 45db at load. Acer has i7-7700HQ with more threads but is black. I prefer silver/aluminium keyboard. HP has that but has small enter which I don't like (lol). Also I read that acer is pretty quite. What are your thoughts on these 2? [link] [comments]
Coolest running ultrabook with TB3 4 lane? Posted: 30 Apr 2018 10:19 AM PDT Hi, I posted before about a laptop suggestion but I have been convinced that the best solution for me is an ultrabook with an eGPU. I'm concerned about temperatures as I want to run the system for long periods of time as my main pc at home. The laptops I'm aware of are HP Spectre x360 13 8550U Dell XPS 13 9370 8550U Lenovo 920 8550U Lenovo X1 Yoga 3rd Gen I have been told the XPS is ideal since it has more wattage but I'm trying to see if there is a 2in1 that would be just as good as I'd love to be able to do pdf editing right on screen. Posted: 30 Apr 2018 04:47 AM PDT I need a new laptop but I'm under quite a low budget of just USD 400. What's the best laptop in this criterion? I mainly need it for studies but if it can support light gaming that'd be quite good as well. I live in Singapore, if that matters. [link] [comments]
What is the model of this laptop? Posted: 30 Apr 2018 07:13 AM PDT
Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:51 PM PDT I've been looking into getting a laptop for some light gaming and various entertainment and productivity. I was initially looking at the XPS 9560, with the i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, 1080P display, and 512 GB SSD. However, I recently became aware of the XPS 9570 coming out soon. According to chart on this website, the 512 GB of RAM, and 97 WH battery are only available in the config with a 4K touch display which I do not need. Also, I'm guessing this display will jack the price up about 300 or more dollars. The processor tier lower still has the 4K display. I was wondering if anybody had any more information on different configs or pricing. And if not, what do you guys think about it? Should I just stick with last years 9560? My budget is about $1400 or $1500. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2018 05:11 AM PDT Hi all, I was just wondering whether you can have those fancy USB-C hubs with SD card reader, USB-A's, and Ethernet and maybe even HDMI out WITHOUT having thunderbolt 3? For example the Surface Book 2 could make use of such hubs. Can you still have pass-through charging on these hubs with just USB-C? Can you run a 4K display at 60Hz or higher with just USB-C? I don't know what exactly thunderbolt 3 enables other than PCI-E stuff (external gfx) and 40Gbps data transfer speeds, I thought USB-C would be fast enough on its own. What are the limitations of having just a USB Type C port with no thunderbolt 3? [link] [comments]
Anyone got Ubuntu 18.04 running on the new Gigabyte Aero 15x V8? Posted: 30 Apr 2018 04:39 AM PDT The problem i am facing is that the Ubuntu install process never proceeds beyond the 'Languages' or 'Connect to a network' screen. Solutions on the web suggest disabling Secure Boot. Since the BIOS menu doesn't seem to have an option to turn that off, I don't know how to proceed. The only Secure Boot related option on the BIOS is 'Delete all Secure Boot variables', of whose results I am unsure of. The BIOS version is FB05 2.20.1271 (American Megatrends) So how do I get Ubuntu to install on this new laptop? [link] [comments]
<1200 euros laptop for video editing, light gaming. Posted: 30 Apr 2018 02:57 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase France , >1200 euros. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply No 2 in 1 , best specs and battery life. A nice build quality too! How important is weight and thinness to you? It has to be slim , and not heavy , >15,6'' would be good since i'm gonna be carrying it around a lot. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows , or Mac. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13'' to 15'' Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I video edit sometimes with DaVinci Resolve , which needs a lot of cpu and ram, I also make a lot of music with some heavy programs. Might get back into WoW this summer, not sure yet but I'd like to have a gpu that could handle WoW even if it is not with the best settings. Thanks everyone! I'd like the laptop to last at least 3 years. [link] [comments]
GIgabyte Aero 15X v8-BK4 - How to reduce temps? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:47 PM PDT So I'm getting around 88-92 degrees Celsius (average around 90 degrees Celsius) when playing games like Fortnite and TheHunter: Call of the Wild. I undervolted using XTU. I changed the Core Voltage Offset to -0.160 V and the Processor Graphics Voltage Offset to -0.155 V. I'm still getting the same temperatures regardless of undervolting. I was thinking of repasting but I don't think I'll do it because I don't want to void my warranty. Is there any way to reduce the temperatures while playing games? Also, did I do anything wrong when undervolting? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Can someone please tell me why most laptops have garbage reviews all over the internet? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:50 PM PDT I've had 2 laptops that crapped out within 2 years. Then I got a macbook pro 5 years ago and it is still going strong, except the screen is cracked and it costs $500 to get it replaced. I was looking to take that $500 and get a new laptop all together. I'm looking to switch to a windows based laptop, but most of them have trash reviews, even the ones I've heard people recommend word of mouth (acer swift 3, dell xps 15, lenovo thinkpad etc). I'm not even sure what to pick and it seems like macbook pro is the only viable option. The macbook 2016 keyboard isn't bad. It looks very sleek and the trackpad is very nice. The touch bar is useless, the keys seem like they can get stuck very easily, the multiple dongles you need to buy etc etc Speaking of which, you will notice that the macbooks on amazon have amazing ratings whereas any windows based laptop on amazon seems to have shit reviews. Gigabyte Aero 15x v8 Coil whine Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:24 PM PDT Hey, just wondering if anyone else who owns the new aero 15x is experiencing coil whine? Its not super screechy like one razer blade that I owned, but its loud enough to hear over general ambient sounds in my room like music or youtube videos. Wondering if I should bother with getting a replacement or repair, or if its persistent on all models. My only points of reference are my 2012 Macbook pro, which runs silently even after 6 years of use, and a razer blade 2017 which i returned for other hardware issues, but also had incredibly loud coil whine. My 15x is somewhere in between. Not sure if this is normal for windows laptops or if i've just been unlucky. Cheers [link] [comments]
Just bought an ASUS ROG GL703VM. Trying Determine what monitor to pair with it? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:22 PM PDT Just purchased a new ASUS ROG GL703VM. (https://m.costco.com/ASUS-ROG-GL703VM-Gaming-Laptop---Intel-Core-i7---1080p---6GB-NVIDIA-Graphics.product.100375042.html) With these specs, what kind of monitor should I pair with it? Wanting to get 144 hz, but not sure a GTX 1060 can handle that. Any other suggestions? Thanks. [link] [comments]
What Laptops Have Per-Key RGB lighting? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 04:43 PM PDT I know that the HP Omen X does, and Razer laptops do, but I'm wondering what other laptops do? As it is the icing on the cake for me. [link] [comments]
Why are most New laptops without any removable battery? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:21 PM PDT Hello people from this sub reddit :)! In the previous 8 years I've been using the same Lenovo laptop (which has a AMD E1 Essential processor but 8 GB of RAM PLUS REMOVABLE BATTERY have kept me using it), however this laptop sometimes will just go into suspended state randomly, or randomly lose internet access for around 5 seconds (which isn't that HUGE deal but still annoying) so I decided that, having used it for already 8 years (and also I bought it used from an uncle) I already got my money's worth. Fast forward to today, I went into a computer store and it shocked me that ALL of their laptops had "integrated batteries", in the inside of the computer, which means I cannot pull the battery away from the battery and just use the laptop plugged in 24/7 (which I do because I don't like to make the battery get shorter charges in the long run). So, my questions are: What's the reason behind laptops no longer having removable batteries? Is that kinda related to the same reason phones no longer have removable batteries? (so you go buy a new phone every 2-3 years once the charges don't last that long). Do you guys have tips for someone who would like to have it's battery last in the long run? Or will I have to just.. Plug it in, wait til it reaches 100%, disconnect it, wait for it to reach around 20%, plug it in again to 100%, etc.? :( [link] [comments]
What are the other Major Brand's (Lenovo, Asus, HP, etc) counterpart to Dell's new G Series? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 06:27 PM PDT Before I commit to getting the new G7 Dell, I want to ask what is its counterpart from the other Brands (Lenovo, HP. Acer, Asus). Basically i7 - 8750h Processor, GTX 1060, 1k to 1.5k usd, 15", and a Discrete Gaming Laptop (a laptop capable of gaming that looks presentable) . [link] [comments]
Dell XPS 15, for the specs it is offering is it worth it? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 02:33 PM PDT http://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-laptops-netbooks-and-tablets/xps-15/spd/xps-15-9560-laptop This is the laptop I'm planning on buying, but I just needed that extra push to convince myself that the specs that it currently has is worth my money. Or should I opt for a better option like msi gs65 stealth? (actually that's way out of budget but better option for better pricing) I mainly want to use this for university and light gaming (overwatch). I checked out the gaming laptop list and seems that XPS 15 isn't too bad for fps. Another thing, if I were to go through with this purchase, does anyone have any links or guides to a Dell XPS 15 set up to do a clean windows install and get rid of bloat ware? Thanks in advance to anyone who helps, it is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
