    This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:

    • Your device.

    • Your carrier.

    • Your device's manufacturer.

    • An app

    • Any other company

    Rules

    1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer.

    2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars.

    3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on.

    Why manufactures should advertise the amount of subpixels and not pixels. Pentile vs RGB

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:24 PM PDT

    Have you ever noticed that an IPS 1080p panel found on an iPhone Plus model is much sharper than a 1080p AMOLED panel found on most OnePlus models?

    As we know, most manufacturers advertise the amount of "Pixels" on their screen, but not every pixel is equal as we shall now see.

    If we consult the image down below we see that:

    1 Pixel on a RGB IPS LCD contains 3 subpixels (R,G,B)

    1 Pixel on a Pentile AMOLED contains 2 subpixels only (2 out of R,G or B)

    The result of that is, that in an 4p x 4p array of an LCD screens there are 16 pixels * 3 subpixels = 48 subpixels

    In the same array; an AMOLED screen contains only 16 pixels * 2 subpixels = 32 Subpixels

    This means that the total count of Subpixels (Which makes for the sharpness of the screen) of the Amoled is only 2/3 of the count of the LCD.

    This is obviously very noticeable.

    Here is an image that might make it more understandable

    The whole "Pixel count" thing is therefore misleading and manufacturers should advertise the amount of subpixels, which will show the true sharpness of the screen.

    What happened to the RED Hydrogen One?

    Was the phone just entirely vaporware? We aren't far from a year since first hearing about it and for 3ish months it's been completely dark on info and communication.

    What's so bad about texting on Android devices?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:43 PM PDT

    I am a long time iOS user looking to switch to Android. One of the common complaints about the Android operating system is that iMessage is much better than any messaging app on Android. Don't all messaging programs do the same thing? Why does everyone prefer iMessage?

    Thanks for the helpful responses, everyone! What Android apps exist that can send directly to iMessage without someone having a WhatsApp account or a similar account?

    Google Assistant and Spotify Fix

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 07:53 PM PDT

    Hello, I'm sure many of you using Google Assistant and Spotify will notice that the voice commands work about 10% of the time. I've found a fix deep in the Spotify forums that worked for me. I'm using Android 8.1/Essential Phone.

    Jeiderdamm, Spotify Forums says,

    "I solved this issue by giving phone and microphone permissions to Spotify app. Try the following:

    Go to Android options;

    Go to applications and find the Spotify app;

    Go to Spotify app permissions and give the desired permissions to the app;

    Force-close Spotify app in the screen before;

    Try using Google Assistant now.

    I hope this works for you too."

    This worked for me! I hope it can for anyone else experiencing this annoying glitch!

    What's new in OnePlus 5T with the Android Oreo update

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:28 AM PDT

    Notification Dots in Oreo are borderline worthless

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 06:42 PM PDT

    I'm really frustrated with how Google implemented notification Dots. Why can't I long press an app with a dot to see what the notification is, or at least take me to the message or email that's triggering the notification.

    My Gmail and sms app have a persistent dot that never goes away even if I've read everything I could see. I'm guessing there's a message and email way back that I haven't gotten to that's triggering the dot, and it's driving me crazy. I'll just be disabling them at this point.

    Android with Google Apps disabled

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:42 PM PDT

    With the news about tech privacy (lack thereof), I have a question about Android.

    If I were to disable all of the Google Apps that came on my Android phone and I ran Firefox, would that mean that Google would stop getting my phone's activity history? What about my browsing history?

    Thanks!
