Hey, looking for a laptop capable of some light gaming for under $500 Posted: 03 Mar 2018 03:24 AM PST Right now I have a Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK, and it's struggling to run modded Minecraft at a solid, stable framerate (can't do more than 15fps while constantly dropping to nothing every few seconds.) Also, that's including pretty much every way there is to optimize the game. My Lenovo is falling apart at the seams anyway, so I thought it was time to replace it. I basically just want to be able to run things like Kerbal Space Program and light modpacks for Minecraft at a smooth framerate of at least 30fps. What's the best I can get in the $400 to $500 price range? Thanks very much! oh and here's the form thing! Total budget and country of purchase: $500. Can go slightly above if absolutely necessary. Kerbal Space Program, light Minecraft modpacks If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Asus ROG Zephyrus vs MSI GT73VR TITAN PRO for Gaming + University Posted: 02 Mar 2018 09:25 PM PST I can't decide between the Asus ROG Zephyrus and MSI GT73VR TITAN PRO for gaming + university use. Ideally, I'd like a 17" 120hz monitor with gsync and a GTX 1080, but anything I've found with those specs is over $3500 so far. Is it worth gaming on a 15" and the slower GPU with the Max-Q design for lighter weight and portability? Are there any other pros/cons to consider for each? submitted by /u/Kalsiddon1 [link] [comments] |

Searching for a college laptop Posted: 02 Mar 2018 07:46 PM PST LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget and country of purchase: $500-600, Australia (budget can be extended if need be, but 500-600 is strongly preferred)
Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life and best specifications for the money How important is weight and thinness to you? Strongly preferable to be relatively light weight and thin Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 inches, and definitely do not want one that is 17 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Looking to run mostly basic programs like microsoft programs and internet browsers (with 8 tabs and over) smoothly and also any games (such as Overwatch/LoL) at a decent framerate, though the latter isn't strictly necessary. Laptop shouldn't lag when multitasking either and switching between programs. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Overwatch/LoL/PUBG, just looking to run these games at standard settings - nothing too extreme, and also would like decent, smooth FPS, but again nothing like 75-100fps needed. * Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard which have good tactile feedback, reliable build quality Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Am just looking for a relatively inexpensive and bang-for-buck sort of laptop which can do all the basic college class stuff well and also run games well on the side. Am not looking for fancy features like the 2-1 or touchscreen capabiilties but am willing to buy it if other features are suitable. Laptop for college, a bit of gaming [US] [$800] Posted: 02 Mar 2018 07:41 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: United States. I'd like to stay in the $700-$800 dollar range but if there is a significant difference I'd consider shelling out an extra $100. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Basically just best specs for the money. Battery life would be nice as I'm in college, but I really just want to get the most for my money. I really want to feel that my purchase will be worth it and last me a good couple years. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not too terribly important. I would obviously prefer it to be thin given that I carry it to some classes, but this is the area I'm most willing to budge on. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Some programming (Matlab, java, python, VBA) Fairly light gaming, see below. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? CS:GO, League of Legends mostly. I can barely play these with 30FPS on my current laptop so anything would be an improvement. Maybe 80-100 FPS? It's hard to say, as I don't game much currently due to the crappy computer. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I don't need anything too terribly fancy. Something with a sturdy build would be nice because it will be in my backpack a lot as I'm walking around campus Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Since I know very little about computers, I'm having a hard time justifying why people are spending so much! If you could explain the tangible difference between a $500 and $800 laptop, that would set my mind at ease. Thank you! submitted by /u/coreblasterextreme [link] [comments] |

Need a gaming laptop, situated in Canada, budget is ~$1000. Very flexible, details in text. Please help me out, Reddit! Posted: 02 Mar 2018 06:04 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: Budget is 1000 dollar US, I live in Canada, but any purchase country works for me, I guess.. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. As I need a gaming laptop, I prefer specs over money. I do not care about touchscreens or any fancy gimmicks like that, I'd just like a gaming laptop with the best specs possible. How important is weight and thinness to you? I don't care about this either. Obviously, thinner and/or lighter is better, but I don't mind even if the laptop is heavy. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, but I'm sorta flexible and may accept Mac if it's the only option I have. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming, and occasional photoshop/Lightroom If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No specific games come to mind, but I'd like the best specs possible so I have the most flexibility on my laptop. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I'd like a matte screen if that's possible, but I'm open to gloss screens if I get the specs I need. Also, I don't care for touchscreens, so I'm better off without them. I'd also like an RGB keyboard, but that's probably too much to ask... Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I was looking at some old Razer Blade models, and I can find a couple for my budget, but they don't fit all of my requirements. If anyone could help me out and find me a (preferably Razer) branded PC that fits my requirements, I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance for any help at all! submitted by /u/JumpyPlug15 [link] [comments] |
Typical Web Use + Minor Gaming. 15.6", $550, USA Posted: 02 Mar 2018 06:00 PM PST Hey Everyone, my laptop is getting to be about 6 or so years old and it sometimes sounds like a jet engine so I'm looking to upgrade with my tax return. I'm open to your ideas. Thank you! Total budget and country of purchase: $550 or under. United States. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Looking for good battery life & best specs. I'd take best specs over battery life if I had to as I can always replace the battery. How important is weight and thinness to you? I'm not SUPER concerned about weight and thinness but at the same time I don't want something massive. I'm currently on an HP Paviliion dv6 laptop and I really like the size. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows OS would be great. Open to Chrome OS but I'm unfamiliar with it. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. My current is 15.6-inch diagonal screen so I'd like that as a minimum. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I do minor photo editing and maybe I'd do some video editing once in a while. I do have Steam but my PS4 is my primary game playing machine. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I do have steam but I don't use it for much. I'd like to be able to run at least medium quality games if possible. I really only use my computer to play Rocksmith 2014 and Civilization V right now but if something I'm interested in comes out that is PC only, I'd like to be able to play them. This is not at all a deal breaker as I'm okay with my Playstation for the time being. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I'd like a decent keyboard with a 10 key number pad (if possible but not required). A fingerprint reader would be cool (again, not necessary). I also like the audio quality on my current laptop but if the one you suggest has Bluetooth, it's really not a big deal. I love my HDMI port and use it quite a bit, I'm sure that's pretty standard nowadays though. Also, the more USB ports the better! Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I really appreciate everyone's help in advance. I'm willing to be open to most ideas. Thanks :) submitted by /u/wildstaringeyes [link] [comments] |

Something that'll run 3ds max & v-ray good for 1100-1300$ / 900-1100 euro Posted: 02 Mar 2018 04:36 PM PST Hello everyone! A close friend of mine needs a laptop for university-related projects using the above-mentioned software - Autodesk 3ds max with v-ray. Thing is, after 12 hours of research I still dont really know what to focus on when recommending a laptop for the job - cpu or gpu perf? Budget: 900-1100 eur / 1100-1300 usd / 1800-2100 bgn Country: Bulgaria The laptop won't be used for any type of gaming, be it light ot heavy. Portability and a good quality screen are a plus and the apropriate performance for the task is required. An SSD is a must. So far I've found a few that cover some, but not all points: Inspiron 7577 - generally good - 7700hq, 1050 ti 250gig ssd, but seems a bit bulky and the display is kinda meh (atleast the 1080p one) Asus GL553 - standard HQ specs, same as the inspiron but with a better ips panel it seems A used XPS 15 9550 for 970eur - im not sure if the gpu performance (960m) would be sufficient, also it seems it gets noisy when under heavy load Asus Vivobook n580d - 8550u cpu(is it wise going low-voltage for this type of a task?) with 1050 graphics, high portability, but a low quality TN display with horrible viewing angles Im sorry for not providing links to online stores, but the sites we use, are mostly in bulgarian only. Also im trying to get a general idea of what to focus on for this task. Thank you very much! submitted by /u/drillstique [link] [comments] |
Laptop recommendation - light gaming Posted: 02 Mar 2018 10:10 AM PST Hey everyone, I'm looking for a new laptop since my last one has died. Needs to run: Audacity and Skype for podcasting Steam with non AAA Games such as: stardew valley, risk of rain, final fantasy 7, don't starve, sunless sea, jackbox 3 I don't need a lot of space (external hard drive) or CD drive. But my main concern is something light. It doesn't need a big screen but lightweight is a big plus Overall I need something lower on the price spectrum. Budget is below 1000 and honestly as low as possible. Please let me know your thoughts (or if you can make recommendations that only hit some of these requirements, I'm willing to listen!) submitted by /u/mikusfikus [link] [comments] |
Inspirion 7577 vs XPS 15 Posted: 02 Mar 2018 12:08 PM PST Dell inspiron 7577 is currently on Amazon for $1199. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0764HW116/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_8EAMAbTPYMYHK It comes with 15.6" 4k (3840 x 2160) IPS display, Intel Core i7-7700hq, GTX 1060 6GB, 128GB SATA SSD + 1TB HDD and 16GB of DDR4 ram. It has all the ports i need. Dell xps 15 is currently on Amazon for $1599 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1Q0M4O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_fLAMAbRJWFWD3 The model I want to buy comes with 15.6 inch 4K touch screen display, Intel Core i7-7700hq, GTX 1050, 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD and 16GB of DDR4 ram. It has decent selection of ports. The way i see it inspiron 7577 offers more bang for the buck and it has a better GPU, but I'm not a gamer, i plan on editing videos on it. The issue with inspiron is I don't know the color accuracy of it's 4k display, i don't know if it is true 4k. Xps 15 has better battery life and true 4k IPS display. It costs $400 more! Which laptop do you think i should buy for content creation? submitted by /u/PodPanda [link] [comments] |
