PSU's 5V ratings not being true to the specs

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 05:42 PM PST

Recently I have been testing some PSU's and I have found that none of them are able to provide the Amps stated on their specs. All the PSUs are having voltage drops between 1-2A and i have only had 1 PSU that was a very cheap n nasty able to go as high as 3.6A @ 3.9V before it cut out. Has anyone else tried any tests like this??

anyone know of a reasonably priced source of OEM Dell 90W PA-10 chargers?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 09:59 AM PST

I had a seller on eBay that supplied me with reliably functional OEM PA-10's for a while. Then they quit carrying those chargers. I am now on my 2nd vendor and I still have the same problem with grounding and touchpads. This last batch even has what sounds like a coil whine in the adapter brick.

Does anyone know a supplier on eBay or Amazon, or somewhere else who sells fully functional OEM PA-10 at a reasonable price?

Macbook Pro Flickering Shut off issue

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 05:10 PM PST

    Experienced tech/Apple specialist here.

15" 2010 macbook pro. Installed office 2011 on a new ssd with sierra. Got mouse/screen flickering and shut downs when using office apps.

Steps to troubleshoot that did not solve the problem. Replace ssd with new ssd. Re-install sierra with a different known good usb. Install high sierra. Install office 2016 instead of 2011. Replace logic board. Replace ram. Verify both ram slots are good. Remove optical drive. Replace battery. Replace display assembly. Install el capitan. Install open-office and skip ms office altogether.

I did all of the above (and every combination of each) with no luck.

Only non-replaced component is the power adapter board. Also, the battery is high-quality aftermarket. (Nupower via OWC)

Could it be an issue with battery/adapter board/charger???

Ive never had an issue like this in all my years working on macs. Ive literally almost replaced the whole computer. Any ideas?

Easy way to boost cell phone signal?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:08 AM PST

Client gets decent signal in most of their house but has little to no signal downstairs. I have the same problem in my new office.

Is there a cell repeater that doesn't require an outdoor antenna? I'd like something I can just plug in and be done. Everything I've Googled comes up as outdoor to indoor. I realize this is the best way but am holding out hope for a simpler install.

Edit: Thanks for the info. Client is on Rogers and it seems they should be able to use wifi calling. I didn't know providers offered this, only that you could get apps to call over wifi but those would require a new number. Wifi calling doesn't seem to fix my problem as Virgin Canada only offers this feature on iPhones it seems.
