Skip Windows 10 Password Overlay Posted: 25 Feb 2018 02:44 PM PST Difficult to put into words but hopefully I'll do a good job. I've recently migrated from Windows 7 to Windows 10. On Windows 7, if you lock your screen and go away, the screen is always on this screen, ready for the password. On Windows 10, this screen takes precedence, requiring to be moved out of the way before you can enter your password. I live in an unsecure environment and leaving my computer without a password or unlocked is not an option, but I now find myself coming back to my computer, entering my password and getting it wrong every time, as there's an overlay in the way. Is there a way to bypass this overlay and keep the password prompt permanently in place? It may seem a little unnecessary or inconsequential, but it's a genuine quality of life improvement I'd really like to know. Thank you to anyone! Additional details; Windows 10 Pro Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.248) Happy to regedit/gpo [link] [comments] |

Ubuntu can't connect to network Posted: 26 Feb 2018 03:11 AM PST This happened over night (no obvious installation or anything). After restarting my machine, it won't connect to the network. ifconfig gives me an IP though and my machine is listed in the routers devices overview. However i cannot acces the machines services e.g. apache nor ssh into it. I also can't access any webbages (from that machine) or even other devices like the router (working as DNS) from the machine in question. Other machines can access each other or the internet without issues. I booted ubuntu from installation, with the same results (see screenshot). Screenshot: https://imgur.com/gkB8fp5 Setup: Router (DNS) wired to machine (tried different cables and ports). Ubuntu 16.04, AMD Ryzen 5 1600, ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS Any tips what i could try or hints to where the problem could be coming from? Thx! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:32 AM PST We have a large military tower which we use for internet. Half the property (500 acres total) is set up with wifi already. The other half I'm trying to get set up. There's a satellite with a battery pack and a disk looking thing, Ubiquiti. They look like they hook up together. When I get them up on my roof my phone see's the wifi network and it shows good reception but won't connect. Any ideas? Sorry if that's not enough info to go off of. [link] [comments] |

[Toshiba Z30-A] New battery shows no battery detected Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:06 AM PST Hello. I have a toshiba Z30-A laptop running windows 10. A few months back the battery suddenly just stopped charging so I immediately got a new one. It worked fine at first but a few months later it started to show that its not charging but instead remained on 43%. I left it a few times off and plugged in but the battery charge never went up. Occasionally when I shake the laptop around it would charge then a few days later it would stop charging again. When I charged it while powered off before, it shows that the battery is charging indicated by an orange led on the front but then when I unplug it, the led would still remain on until I power the laptop on which did not happen before. I have already tried the method of removing the ac adapter and battery then holding the power button for a minute, waiting a few minutes then plugging everything back again but it did not work. I have also tried uninstalling ac adapter drivers and restarting it but it still did not work. I hope to find a fix as soon as possible because I use this laptop for school and it's bothersome to have to bring the ac adapter everytime I need to use it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:34 AM PST Husband's background: ex-military, now works for gov. I'm in the process of divorce and I'm 98% sure that he's spying on my phone. He's bought Raspberry Pi's, new routers, setup a VPN, and something about a Kali Linux. He's sitting on the couch saying he can see the data packets on my phone while he's accessing something command line based in his phone. What can I do to protect myself? How can I prove that he's accessing my phone and laptop without consent? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2018 03:57 AM PST Hey everyone, recently I bought a used hp compaq and it had no hdd so I bought a hp s700 ssd to go along with it. I am trying to install it and I keep getting the error "non system disk or disk error" and nothing will work. I have no os disk but I have installed off of a usb before with windows 10 software but it doesn't detect that as a boot device. I have also tried to hit f2/9 to access the bios but it won't let me and just goes to the disk error. What should I do? [link] [comments] |

Sometime today my audio stopped working. After a restart, my primary monitor isn't connecting. Posted: 26 Feb 2018 03:21 AM PST Windows 10, two ASUS 1080p monitors. I have no idea when my audio stopped working, but I noticed after I moved my monitor. When I moved it back, plugged everything back in, double checked all the connections, and restarted my computer, my completely untouched primary monitor stopped functioning. "DVI No signal" After a second restart, my second monitor booted up as the primary and had a very low resolution. Did I short my mobo somehow? Edit: There was also a brief period where my internet (LAN) wasn't connected. UPDATE: I opened it up a second time, gave it a good dusting and checked the power cables out of the PSU (which I forgot last time) and now my monitor works! BUT! I'm still missing audio! Update2: Audio is coming from headphones when I choose either speakers or headphones as my audio option. Unplugging headphones doesn't help. Final? Update: Auido seems to be working? Just used the troubleshooter and it said "Congrats, it works now." Any guesses as to what I did, so i can avoid it in the future? [link] [comments] |
Downstairs residents using my internet through Ethernet. How do I get kick them off? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 02:14 PM PST So I live in an apartment with an in law down in the garage. I'm 100% certain that the family in the downstairs in law is connected to my internet via Ethernet. When in my router settings in my "connected" tab there's a Chromecast connected via Ethernet(We don't own a Chromecast), and even my Android phone picks up the Chromecast and tells me whenever they're casting. I'm assuming they have a router or gateway setup connected through a wall outlet. I was wondering if there's anything I can do in my routers settings that'll permanently kick them off? Edit : I made a mistake. They are actually connected via WiFi. I don't know how I misread it twice. [link] [comments] |

Mouse and keyboard input lag (Nvidia GPU problem) Posted: 26 Feb 2018 03:02 AM PST You can skip to 2. if there is too much text for you, that should be enough. 1. WHAT I FOUND OUT Hello, I have been trying to solve this for days now with very little luck. So I hope some of you will be able to figure it out, I'd be very grateful. I have installed GeForce GTX 750 Ti, got Nvidia Experience, got drivers automatically from there and it installed only a part of them (I didn't have the Nvidia Control panel for example). Games etc worked, but they should work better, for that you are supposed to use the MSI Gaming App, which I did but then I got extreme input lag (will explain bellow). Okey, so I wasn't using it, but then I installed graphic card drivers manually so that I can get the full functionality AND the Nvidia control panel (because that is just how it is supposed to work), and now I have input lag even without the MSI Gaming App. 2. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM Input lag - When my GPU is engaged in somehting a little difficult for it, my keyboard and mouse are extremely laggy. Most of the input isn't even considered, so I move my mouse and it moves after some time and just a little bit. I don't even need to play games, it is enough to run a 3D application or even a browser game like agar.io. I found this might be experienced because of GeForce Experience Ingame Overlay. I disabled and all was working. Then I restarted my PC and the issue is back, only the overlay IS STILL DISABLED. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Can some computer people offer me some advice about my somewhat embarrassing situation? Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:38 AM PST So my mom had a laptop that was damaged by urine last year. (https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/6qgrlv/my_elderly_mother_urinated_on_her_bed_and_runoff/) For Christmas of last year we decided to pitch in and by her a cheap little laptop. The problem is that for whatever reason she can't reliably stream movies or play her FB games. When I went into task manager the CPU usage was fairly low (>10%) but the physical memory usage was at 99% with only chrome opened. I'm not very techy but I did some research and concluded that I have to add more RAM to her machine. She has 2 RAM "ports" so I can keep the 2gb it came with and I want to add an additional 4 (her old laptop had 4 and worked fine). Here's the thing though, I've never bought PC parts but from some quick online research i saw that 4GB RAM can be around $30 if I'm lucky. I'm a student with like no money so I wanted to know if I could try inserting the RAM from her old soiled laptop into this one. If it's corrupted would it hurt the laptop? I'm fairly sure it's dried by now as it's been sitting on a shelf for 3/4ths of a year. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:38 AM PST I have a new HP laptop and I always get 100% disc usage on boot and whenever I open programs. Sometimes when my PC is idle the disc usage goes up to 100%. I've tried almost every method I could find but nothing has helped at all. I also spoke to HP support and did every test and scan but nothing has helped. Whenever I disable one process, another process will pick up the disc usage etc. The processes that take up 100% disc are usually 'system', antimalware service executable and several several hosts. Is there any method that's known to work? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Unique Wireless Setup for a VR Gaming Warehouse Needed Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:32 AM PST Hello, I need to figure out a wireless setup throughout a warehouse, I will be using at least 30 backpack computers that will need to be able to connect wirelessly at any position in the warehouse, they will all be on simultaneously, and moving fast, at human-running speed all around the warehouse, the speed of the network needs to be fast enough to support LAN gaming for all of these connections simultaneously with as little lag as possible. The warehouse will be 100 yards long and 50 yards wide, about the size of a football field. There will also be a local server that all these computers will be sending their commands/input to, and the server will update all the other computers of the other's relevant input/position in realtime. What hardware is recommended for all of this? Budget is just set at whatever the cheapest models of routers/server/repeaters that are able to pull off the job. [link] [comments] |
Sudden slow boot and lag in games Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:28 AM PST Yesterday morning my computer started acting up out of nowhere. Usually the boot time is something like 15 seconds, now it's stuck in the Windows loading screen (the one with the blue Windows logo and spinning circles) for 4 minutes before it loads up. Everything else seems to work fine but my games are laggy as well, noticed a fps drop in Overwatch and PUBG is almost unplayable now. Stuff I've tried which didn't help: Specs: If anyone can help - thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Task Manager showing more RAM than installed in system Posted: 25 Feb 2018 06:53 PM PST See below for screenshots of my system's task manager. I only have 16 GB of 3000Mhz RAM installed. There's also something using all the RAM, but Task Manager doesn't want to show what it is. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. https://imgur.com/hjYxO0f https://imgur.com/M9LgK6R Edit: booted into safe mode and it still shows as the wrong amount of installed RAM [link] [comments] |
iPhone 6 bottom half of screen unresponsive. Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:10 AM PST I turned on my iPhone and noticed that I couldn't click away the alert that had popped up, I was in a hurry so I just restarted the device. Then when I tried to open it i couldn't enter my password as the bottom half of the screen in unresponsive. I attempted to plug it into my computer to reset to factory settings but I cant connect it as iTunes wants me to unlock the phone first, which I can't do. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:07 AM PST Also, I dropped the hardrive yesterday. I thought I had to send my 'lil baby to the doctor, but seems all is good now. I can play movies and music simultaneously today with no issues. However one issue still remain: the above. It actually starts beeping during this process, I have waited up to 30 minutes but it doesn't get past the NTFS stage. Any tips on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 07:58 PM PST I got an email from microsoft saying the following:
I removed the email addresses above, but the old account was my own account and the new account is somebody else's account. Now I had multiple microsoft accounts from back in the day which I never use any more. I tried deleting them, but at the time microsoft required waiting a full year, which I did and nothing happened. I could still log into the accounts as if they were new, so I gave up and deleted as much info from the accounts as possible then changed the passwords and left them. It seems like one of the accounts has been hacked, and I'm not even sure which one. Am I just shit out of luck here? It's especially frustrating because I tried to delete the accounts but microsoft refused. UPDATE: I was able to find a sheet where I had written my old accounts and passwords. I went back into the 5 known accounts and changed the passwords. I also looked at recent activity, but there was nothing there so I'm not sure if there may be another account floating out there that was gotten into or perhaps someone somehow made an honest mistake and linked their account to my primary email address and tried switching it back? It doesn't really add up, I of course avoided any links in the email itself... [link] [comments] |
