Does a laptop "die" if not used at all for years? Posted: 20 Feb 2018 12:14 PM PST Hello to you all, dear redditors! I have to come your aid because I am in need of an advice about laptops. I have 2 laptops, but recently bought 2 newer models because why not and now I am left wondering if I should sell the old ones or leave them as backup. I prefer the latter idea (backup) to selling them in case something happens to the new ones. TLDR / The questions I do have are : 1. Does a laptop and its battery/charger "die" if not used for a long time?
Okay, that is all for now. Thank you in advance for helping me! [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Feb 2018 01:01 PM PST Good day redditors! I am on mobile so I apologize in advance for any errors. I'm looking for a laptop to last me ~6 years while staying decently fast. I'm fairly invested in the Apple ecosystem, so I've been looking at a MacBook Pro 15". Unfortunately I have no idea where to look for good windows laptops. I enjoy gaming so having a gtx 1070/1080 would be nice. I need something with good build quality and a fairly thin frame. Budget is not an issue so long as it's sub-$3000. I'm in the U.S. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Feb 2018 12:04 PM PST Does anyone have decently cheap laptop recommendations, that can be obtained by stores (Best Buy, etc.). The main use of this laptop would be for schoolwork such as Google Docs. However, I also want it to run a few games (mainly League of Legends). Anyone have recommendations? [link] [comments]
Active Stylus that works with the Acer Spin 5 and Nitro Spin? Posted: 20 Feb 2018 11:57 AM PST I know for sure that this model works (from an Acer Rep): https://caen-store.acer.com/accessories/keyboards-mice-styluses/acer-active-stylus-asa630 However, it's not in stock in the Canadian website (only the US) and can't find it anywhere else including ebay. Any idea of where I could get it? Or any other compatible option? Thank.s [link] [comments]
Buying Asus Vivobook E403 - linux? Posted: 20 Feb 2018 11:22 AM PST I'm in the market for a cheap portable laptop to complement the 17 inch monstrosity that is my current laptop. I've got my eyes on an Asus Vivobook E403 (https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-VivoBook-E403NA/), and it seems to check most boxes fot me but I have one concern. I'm planning to install linux on it. If anyone has this laptop or knows anything about it I'd like to know if there are any problems with installing linux and what Windows distribution comes already preinstalled on it, as some websites state that it's got full Windows 10 and some say that it has Windows 10 S. I've read somewhere that you can't install anything other than Windows on machines that already run Windows 10s. Is that true? Thank you for your answers. [link] [comments]

Is this portable worth my money Posted: 20 Feb 2018 09:30 AM PST Hi, I'm considering buying a portable for gaming "recondicionated" - it means it's in second hand, sought by Toshiba and with 1 year warrant. Well, i found a Toshiba Satellite L50-C-29J. Specs: - Intel core i5 6200 2,4 - Ecra 15,6 LED - 1Tb - RAM=8 Gb DDR3 - GeForce 930M 2Gb - Windows10 64bits price: 450 euros What do you guys think? Is this a good computer? Should i pay a little bit more and get a better one? For reference, i'm considering to play Skyrim Special Edition or Fortnite or any new game that catches my eye. - 60 fps masterrace I have to spent 600 euros I'm in portugal I value 1st gaming, 2nd battery, dont care about weight, windows Any questions, feel free to ask. Posted: 20 Feb 2018 08:31 AM PST I am switching from my Desktop machine to a laptop, due to a change in circumstances. Therefore, I have very little experience with laptops, and would appreciate any comments or suggestions to get me on the right track. I need to buy within the next 2 weeks, and am located in the UK. I don't know anything about refurbished deals/reliability, but I am open to it!!! I am moving to Japan soon, and therefore that may affect warranties, or I-don't-know-what. What I want to do with it: 1) Open 90 tabs in Chrome easily 2) Some video editing, with no issues, lag, crashing etc 3) Sometimes play lower-graphics games, such as Life Is Strange and Dota (on max setting) 4) I want a large (ish) screen (NOTE - actually this is not important, because i can bring my large desktop monitor with me in my suitcase and plug it into the laptop when i'm at home with it, right? 5) Watch Twitch/Youtube videos in 1080p (or even higher?) My budget is anywhere from £300-£600 (400-800usd) (based off of your advice). Thank you so much for reading! Form:
edit: i get the impression that 15 inch screen is standard if i want decent specs , rather than 17inch... edit2: actually theres no reason why i cant pack my current 27inch desktop monitor and bring it with me in the suitcase, and plug it into the laptop when im at home with it, right? nice... Does anybody here know when i can expect theese laptops to come out with 8th gen cpus? Alternatively do you have some recommendations for other simular premium ultrabooks? Thank you! Dell XPS 12 9Q23 Convertible Laptop Posted: 20 Feb 2018 04:45 AM PST I'm looking for another laptop to buy. I mainly only want it for web browsing, some music and YouTube. I saw this one for sale for $230 USD. Would this be an acceptable price to pay for this? Would it be possible to upgrade the RAM and HDD? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Need help choosing between two asus rog strix Posted: 19 Feb 2018 08:27 PM PST OK, heres the two I've been looking GL503 or Hero Edition The GL503 Has GTX 1060 3gb but with g sync. The Hero edition has GTX 1060 6gb without g sync Both have 120hz screens. I'm wondering if g sync is worth keeping for 3gb less Vram. Games I play: Ark, LoL, Overwatch, Skyrim, Fortnite, eventually pubg. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Looking for a powerful high quality laptop, but don't want to go too overkill Posted: 19 Feb 2018 09:13 PM PST Like the title says, I'm looking for a high quality laptop that can handle everything I throw at it well. I'd say my average usage habits are 60% casual internet browsing/video streaming, 20% media production (Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, and FL Studios), and 20% casual gaming (I pretty much play every mainstream AAA game). I do plan on going to grad school for some Engineering focus in the next year or two so I anticipate I'll be using various CAD programs like Solidworks, SPICE, and etc. Right now, I'm looking at this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0744NZHVL/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A22EEUGKT0NA0K&psc=1 It's definitely a powerful laptop, but my biggest concern is that it may be overkill for me. I currently work 60-70 hour weeks so I don't have as much time for my hobbies (media production and gaming) anymore. But when I do find the time, I want the laptop to handle everything with ease (nothing worse to me than wasting my free time waiting for my things to render). I chose the most spec'd out version because the 32GB spec is only $20 more than the 16GB spec so I figured why not? I do want at least a 500GB SSD. However there are plenty of other options out there with a GTX 1060 in the lower to mid $1000s that I've been considering. Essentially - I can afford the laptop that I linked above, but I'm worried I'm spending extra money on hardware that I'm only "really using" maybe 20-30 hours out of a week. If waiting a few more seconds for a render or playing games on High instead of Ultra settings means saving several hundreds of dollars, I'm totally fine with that. However I do want a laptop that's future proof out to the next 5 or 6 years. Also, the form of the laptop has to be on the more conservative side. I don't like the aggressive, spaceship looks of a lot of the high end gaming laptops on the market. Thanks in advance for any advice, recommendations, or suggestions! [link] [comments]

Ive been planning on buying an ultrabook to compliment my MacBook Pro 2014. I want a Windows machine for some variety (I do however love OSX) The XPS 15" UHD touchscreen 512SSD 16GBRAM is on sale for $500 off until feb 26th. The ONLY thing I do not like about this is that I have read that the battery life is not that great do to the UHD res. I do not need the 15" size, but it is a bonus. (the xps15 also has a decent video card.) I love the Chroma Keyboard on the razers and frankly this is the biggest selling point for me on these. They make comparably decent systems. i would be paying about the same for a 13" stealth with INTEL Graphics as the same 15" XPS. I am not a big gamer frankly I just want a nice portable Ultrabook (13-15") that is fast, 512GB SSD 16GB ram and has good battery life for watching flicks. I do some light gaming and normal use but I do not edit videos or anything demanding beyond playing some RTS or rpg games. I have read that the wifi cards on these machines have connectivity issues... :-( [link] [comments]
What new gaming laptops are worth waiting for? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 07:58 PM PST I was thinking of getting the gigabyte aero 15x because it pretty much ticks everything: thin, light, powerful graphics card and cpu, bezelless (so I get a 15.6 screen in a "14inch" body). I've saw someone post on reddit that production of the 15x has been halted in favour of the new coffee lake CPUs. In addition, my last laptop was a gigabyte and it was broken from day 1 warranty was a absolute nightmare (spanning 3 years). Is there anything on the horizon that looks similar to the gigabyte 15x. According to forums the new XPS 15 will only have a 1060 maxq or stick with the 1050ti. [link] [comments] |
