Gifting Laptops to College Freshmen Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:07 PM PST My niece and nephew are both graduating from high school and I would like to get them each a laptop for college. Neither are sure what they are going to major in yet, so I guess I need good all-around laptop suggestions for them. I'd like to keep the budget to less than $1500 per laptop. Less than that would be great, but I really want to provide them with something that will get through college with them and have all the tools they will need. Please help! [link] [comments]
$1,500 USA; is XPS15 my best bet for overall performance and specs? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:00 PM PST I have $1,500 to spend and i use it for casual gaming mostly photo processing with adobe lightroom. weight isint a problem heavy or light it doesnt matter. im looking for the best specs i can get for 1,500. preferabbly an i7 processor, 12GB+ ram and a decent graphics card. It will be a main computer so nothing that would junk out anytime soon. From what i have read the XPS15 is the most talked about at this price range [link] [comments]
Are the Asus ZenBook Flip 15 UX561UD and the Asus Q535UD the same laptop? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:59 PM PST I've been looking for reviews of the Asus Q535UD, which seem to be nonexistent, when I came across the Asus ZenBook Flip 15 UX561UD. After looking at both laptops' feature pages, I'm wondering if both the Asus ZenBook Flip 15 UX561UD and the Asus Q535UD are pretty much the same laptop. From what I can tell, the former may have a few more internal configuration options, but otherwise they seem to look identical (especially externally). Is the latter perhaps a Best Buy exclusive? If I can't find reviews of the Asus Q535UD online, are reviews of the UX561UD sufficient? Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Which of these 3 laptops to choose? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 09:40 AM PST All have the same i5-8250u (links in French sry) Asus Vivobook R520UA 15.6" 4GB RAM 1TB HDD 457€ HP Notebook HP15bs113nf 15.6" 4GB RAM 1TB HDD 471€ HP Pavilion HP14bk102nf 14" 8GB RAM 256GB SSD 585€ I'm looking for a new general use (no gaming) laptop to change my 7 year old 18.4"(yes that's a thing) Toshiba. I finally want a light laptop and a good balance between performance and portability. Should I stretch my budget and go for the more expensive one for the SSD,8GB of RAM and 14"? I already have a 2-3 yr old 128GB SSD and I thought I might swap the 1TB HDD and later also get another 4GB of RAM. I also plan on getting an external HDD for the extra storage. Do you have any other suggestions? I got convinced that this CPU is the best price-performance option on the market right now for lighter laptops. [link] [comments]
Help me choose between these 4 laptops! returning my macBook Pro? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:25 PM PST I purchased a MacBook Pro 13" (no fancy bar) and have come across a couple issues and am now considering returning it for something different. Below are what I am looking for in a laptop: 1) Durability. I need a laptop that will last me years and not fall apart. I never use my laptops for anything crazy or dangerous but they always seem to fall apart or get super slow. I need something I can invest in that will keep up for a few years minimum. This is why I originally purchased the Mac because they are known to last and hold value. 2) Security. With my Mac I could encrypt everything under a password. I liked this. Anything that allows this is a bonus. 3) Be able to use an HDMI cord and plug directly into the laptop and stream whatever I want without issue. This is my biggest issue with my new Mac is that you have to buy a whole separate accessory to do what should be a default. So I purchase the highest rated accessory just for it to affect my WIFI and not be able to stream anything (seems to be a common issue). 4) Just your basic Redditing, browsing the internet, school work etc.. Pretty basic. 5) Limited gaming. This is my lowest priority but I do want it factored in. I mostly play DayZ, but looking at getting into PUBG. Now I don't care about optimal performance with 25 million FPS or whatever I just want to be able to play even if it means knocking the settings down to low or whatever. Now here are the laptops I have looked into and can purchase locally. Please give your opinion on any of them whether good or bad. If you have an additional choice that rings in under $1100 let me know about it. Options: 1) Keep the MacBook. $1150, 13" i5 processor, 8GB memory, Iris plus graphics 640. 2) Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 Touch-Screen Laptop. $900. 13.3", i5 processor, 8GB memory, 256 SSD hard drive, Intel UHD graphics 620 3) HP Omen Gaming Laptop $950. 15.6", Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 8GB memory, 1TB+ 128GB SSD hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050TI graphics. 4) Asus Q534 2-in-1 Touch Screen Laptop $1050. 15", Intel Core i7 7500U processor, 16GB (DDR4) memory, 2TB+512 GB SSD hard drive, NVIDIA GTX 950M 2GB Graphics. (This one is on sale). ANY advice or information regarding these is appreciated! [link] [comments]
Spray or coating to keep stickers from sticking to laptops Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:16 PM PST I don't know where else to post this but where I work we have a problem with people sticking laptops onto work PC's and they are a pain to get off. Anybody know of something that will keep these stickers from...well sticking. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Feb 2018 07:00 AM PST Looking for a laptop no more than $300. Plenty of storage, not for gaming, mild streaming(Netflix, youtube), basic work and school functions, and ability to download multiple file. [link] [comments]
Should I update windows 10 on new laptop Posted: 22 Feb 2018 12:34 PM PST Just got a new laptop and wondering is it recommended to update windows 10? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 12:29 PM PST I'm looking for a laptop, and I have no idea what to look for. My price range is anything below $1000. I will be using it for light gaming, mainly for school, and just regular browsing the internet. I'm currently looking at the Acer Predator Helios 300. Any other ones I should do some research on? Anybody used the HP Envy 13 i7(8th gen) MX150 version? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 12:05 PM PST As the title said, has anybody used/has experience with it? I'm looking to buy a new laptop, and as far as i've seen this might be the one. [link] [comments]
I am super proud of this 7$ IBM ThinkPad R60e! Posted: 22 Feb 2018 12:01 PM PST Basically I bought this just because it was super cheap and I ended up refurbishing it for my channel. I realized then how useful such a cheap machine can be, even today. These ThinkPads are absolute marvels of technology I think and they can endure so much wear and tear, as is the one I purchased. [SIB] Dell Inspiron 15 7000-15.6” Inch Full HD Screen Laptop Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:59 AM PST Is this laptop a good product for the price? What is the limit of games that the laptop can run? Is it portable? What are some downsides to it? If you can answer these for me that would be great! [link] [comments]
Proper battery management questions Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:34 AM PST Hello reddit! I recently purchased a new Dell XPS 13 9370 and I can't wait for it to be delivered. I just want to make sure I take care of it as best as I can to ensure it lasts me at least 5 years. So for the first time charge, is it similar to phones? Should I charge it for 24 hours straight? And for each subsequent charge, do I charge it to 100% every time or does it matter if I just charge it to however much I can? And I know I shouldn't let it go down to 0 but should I charge it as soon as it reaches say, 20% for example? Sorry for the beginner questions and thanks for any advice! [link] [comments]

Any Current/upcoming APU (2700U?) laptops? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:48 AM PST I spent the last few days trying to lightly research Ryzen 2700U-based laptops without great success. Sounded like an ideal laptop to let me escape my desktop occasionally. Low power use, therefore presumably good battery life, more than good enough processor for day-to-day and light coding hobbies, and a fair GPU for humble gaming if I need a fix while away from the desktop. However, I found like 3 total laptops using this processor and they all have reviews making, what I believe to be valid, points on major drawbacks in their design. Anyone else been looking into this and have information they can share with me? Are these chips not being picked up well? Too soon to expect anything? I believe I still want to continue to be hopeful for a good 2700U laptop (as opposed to the Intel+AMD upcoming 8809G stuff) because if battery life is something I want, the 2700U is probably my ideal selection out there. Or do any of you have a 2700U device and feel any negative reviews aren't accurate? [link] [comments]
ASUS VivoBook Max X541UV - Need some troubleshooting tips Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:12 AM PST To preface this, I have tried my best to troubleshoot these issues on my own and with the help of ASUS techs themselves. Just to give some background knowledge, I would say I'm fairly competent when it comes to computers, but definitely not an expert by any means. Anyways, on to the issues. 1) Sound Quality - Since purchasing the laptop, I've had this issue with the external speakers as well as the sound coming through my headphones when connected to the audio jack. What happens is I'll be listening to something and the laptop will randomly freeze and make this loud "frequency" noise (that's the best way I can describe it). Essentially it's just this loud buzz that will occur every 20 minutes or so and sometimes more frequently. Sometimes the buzz will last 5-10 seconds, causing my laptop to freeze. 2) Bluetooth audio quality - Now this problem I think I've nailed down, but I wouldn't mind other suggestions. The Bluetooth audio quality on the newest Windows 10 version (1709) is atrocious. I have connected many Bluetooth devices and they all make the same, distorted, crackling noise. I have reinstalled drivers, rolled-back drivers, etc. Nothing has worked except reverting to an older version of Windows. I'm not sure what else to do. So, I have sent this laptop to ASUS and it came back with none of the issues fixed. I've only had the laptop since September 2017, so I don't think anything should be broken, yet. I seriously appreciate any suggestions you guys have and the time it took for you to read this ramble. If you've experienced any of these issues, please let me know. What would be better for connecting an external monitor? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:11 AM PST Option 1:
for this option, I would also have to use a wireless keyboard instead of a wired, mechanical keyboard Option 2:
I would just use a USB to HDMI cable but my ps4 is already using the HDMI port on my monitor, thanks for any help! [link] [comments]

Where do you all buy good quality stickers? Posted: 21 Feb 2018 05:01 PM PST I ordered some off of redbubble and their selection is really quite good but I'm really disappointed with the quality of them so I'm highly considering returning them. The free ones you get at hackathons are 10x better than these. [link] [comments]
