How can I force close an application that forces me out of my task manager

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 11:32 PM PST

So I ran across this problem in a game called "They Are Billions," where it crashed and I couldn't access my task manager because every time I opened it, the game would immediately minimize my task manager behind itself. I couldn't escape the game no matter what I did, how can I deal with this incredibly annoying situation without fully restarting my pc?

Product question. Why don't they make SSD in 3.5"? Wouldn't the extra physical space allow them to easily put in more storage?

Backing up folders from an NTFS drive to a FAT32 drive. The original folder is 210gb, but Windows says it's copying 173gb.

I found some related issues online but none of them seem to actually come to resolution.

I understand it's something to do with the cluster size. I can deal with that information.

What I'm worried about is, am I losing the data? Am I backing it up properly, is this an okay way to back it up? Should I be worried about the difference in file size?

Problems with GTX 1060 and HDMI to VGA adapter

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 01:42 AM PST

    Hi people!

Well, I've been using my computer with an ASUS monitor and a Sony TV, through DVI and HDMI accordingly, and I have a VGA monitor sitting around the house, so I decided to get an adapter.

Well, my friend brought his adapter to see if it works, and it did but only if booting the PC with the adapter already connected, hot plugging it would lead to no signal from any display.

Tried the adapter for about 90 minutes, so I decided to get my own adapter from a local walmart, and it worked well for 2 hours or so, till the (VGA) display went out and back on, the windows sound for unplugging hardware played back, the others display didn't show any sign of trouble, till after another 30 minutes, every single display went black except my Asus display which was all blue, like BsoD, but my audio from youtube was still playing back. The GPU put the Fans at full speed.

Had to shutdown the PC holding the power button as I had too many stuff open and a command line wasn't gonna help, disconnected the HDMI-VGA adapter, powered the PC back on, and everything is working well so far (4+ hours so far)...

My Question is, is this common?

I'm afraid of connecting the adapter again, and I don't know if the card got hotter than normal or what, this never happened before, and I have never ever heard the sound of the fans as I never put a lot of stress on the card.

    Specs:

    • Mobo: Asrock Fatal1ty AB350 itx/ac
    • CPU Ryzen 7 1700
    • 8GB Corsair DDR4 2600
    • Samsung PM961 NVMe drive
    • Silverstone SFX 500w 80+ gold
    • GTX 1060 Dual series
    • This adapter The webpage says it doesn't require any power so I'm guessing it's getting it from the HDMI port and maybe that's an issue.
    • OS Windows 10

    Any input will be appreciated!

My company's custom email got infected with a virus, it's raining spams.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 03:29 AM PST

Hello guys, this is my first time posting in this sub and i hope to get some help because I'm getting desperate with this problem.

So my company has 20-25 custom mail adresses that uses our domain name. Everything worked great until one day every single mail adress started getting the same email messages that have the same text and subject but with different spam mails. Here is the screenshot how it looks like: https://prnt.sc/ihr9l0

They are getting "delivery failed" email like every minute. Daily they receive 3000+ mails. To me it looks like that our email adresses are trying to send emails to these spam adresses every minute and our server just responds with "exceeded max failures per hour".

I tried to fix this, installed anti virus software on every computer, scanned, deleted infected files, but it did nothing, the problem is still there. Also switched to more safer cloudflare protection but again nothing.

What should i do ? Is anyone here familiar with this problem, have you ever experienced anything similar ?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english.

Monitors sometimes go black/lose signal after opening video in fullscreen and don't come back on.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 04:26 AM PST

    Hello guys,

so the first time I´m actaully helpless when it comes to a computer problem since I really can´t pinpoint the source of this problem.

I have 3 full HD monitors connceted per display port to my GTX1080. Normally everything is fine and I have no issues. But sometimes (like 1-2 times per month) my montiors go black when I open a video in fullscreen mode and they ain´t coming back. The thing is the monitors are still turned on they just don´t receive a signal anymore. I restarted the monitor when I had this problem but they still didn´t have any signal. I run stress test on my GPU, CPU and RAM. Everything is perfect. No Overheating. Strong performance. My computer also doesn´t shut off completley...I can still hear the sound of the video without any interruption. As soon as I restart my PC everything is perfectly fine again. The thing is this problem doesn´t always occur but seemingly randomly. Last time it happened I played PUBG and had a my browser open in the background and the video in window mode on pause. After I finished PUBG i started the video went into fullscreen and my monitors went black. Anyone any idea what might cause this problem ?

After functioning perfectly for months, my 144hz monitor has suddenly stopped working with a displayport cable. Although HDMI works great, displayport gives me a black screen and the words "Displayport: NO SIGNAL". I've tried everything I can think of, anyone have any other ideas?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 08:45 PM PST

    What's wrong

I've been using this monitor for about six months now and it's always been connected using a displayport cable. When I turned my computer on yesterday, I was surprised to find that the monitor couldn't connect using displayport any longer, it just says "no signal".

I didn't make any changes to the software or hardware of the computer and I can't think of any reason why it would stop working. Additionally, I connect my electronics to a high end APC UPS and unplug them before going to bed at night, so it couldn't be fried due to a power surge.

I'm completely out of ideas and I'd really appreciate some suggestions!

    What I've tired

Clean install of the most recent drivers for my GPU and monitor.

Plugged the displayport into a different port on my GPU.

Plugged the displayport into my motherboard, instead of the GPU.

    Purchased a new displayport cable.

I've also tried the obvious things, like making sure the monitor is on the right channel and restarting my PC/monitor.

    My specs

Monitor is the ASUS VG248QE. I don't think it's important, but I'm running dual monitors, the second is a 60fps Samsung that works fine.

    OS is Windows 10

    GPU is a 1070 founders.

    Mobo is the ASUS Z170-A

Trying to turn 1 Ethernet connection into 3

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 04:05 AM PST

I've got Google Fiber and 2 computers currently hardwired, one running 50' into my room. And I'm in need of another cable, but can't run another one to my room. Is it possible to connect the Ethernet cable currently in my pc into a router/switch/splitter and connect from that switch to three other devices without loss of bandwidth? And if so, could you please provide some kind of example device that would work?

ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH74 -- Windows 10 Fall Creators Update snafu

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 09:58 PM PST

In May 2017 I bought my laptop with Windows 10 Build Version 1607 (Anniversary Update).

I immediately set to running Windows Updates and installed Version 1703 (Creators Update).

    Everything seemed to run fine.

In October, without thinking, I upgraded to Version 1709 (Fall Creators Update).

I immediately had some programs do a full system freeze, with startling noises from the internal speaker (MOBO screaming bloody murder, not through speakers meant for sound) prompting a hard shutdown and no error reports generated to Windows.

Great, I thought. I immediately contacted ASUS support and they said, "Oh, you weren't supposed to do the upgrade. We don't recommend it for your model. https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1013416/

They neglected to say whether or not it was safe to run 1703 or if I needed to go back to 'stock' with 1607.

I reached out to Microsoft and they offered to help me install 1703. However, should I be asking to going back to what my laptop originally came with? 1607?

I am awaiting a response from ASUS but they have difficulty responding to specific inquiries due to a language barrier.

What do you recommend, oh mighty smart folks in r/techsupport ?

I deleted a program from my computer, but the space is still allocated to that program and now it won't let me free up the space because I can't uninstall the program (Windows 10)

    Posted: 20 Feb 2018 12:42 PM PST

So I had a copy of Fallout 3 on my PC, and I deleted it off manually. But now when I go in add or remove programs, it says the game is still there, taking up almost 9 GB space. So I try to uninstall, but it says it couldn't find the uninstaller (probably because it got deleted with everything else). The biggest problem is, I can't reinstall it to uninstall properly, since it was a torrent (I know, I know. If it's any consolation, I deleted this copy since I bought the actual game). Is there any way to make my PC realize that the space is in fact open?

Constant 2200 RPM on a fan and the noise is incredibly annoying. Confused about terminology and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 03:37 AM PST

I'm not great with computers - I can put one together so it runs, but that's about it. Several people have told me that more fans at a lower speed will keep a good balance between temps and noise level, so I bought a new case and a bunch of fans. I currently have three case fans connected to the Cha_fan1 port via a splitter cable. I've downloaded Speedfan to monitor and change the speed, but nothing seems to be working, even when watching tutorials.

The situation is... I can't tell which fan is which from looking at Speedfan. I've got Sys and CPU, those are fairly straight forward and I won't mess with them, then I've got Aux and Aux1 (0RPM), Aux2 hovering at around 2200, Aux3 at around 800. I see people using the term WPM when talking about control, but I have no idea what that refers to. The connected fans are 3 pins, and if it makes a difference, the motherboard is a 370 series from ASUS, just a couple of months old.

Bonus problem - I've got 2 more 140mm fans set up in the bottom of the case for intake, but I have no idea where to connect them. I have a splitter on the way from Amazon, but I don't really see any free ports other than the m2 fan port, which I assume is only for the storage thing.

What the hell do I do? My goal, as far as I can gather, is to get all fans running at 50-60% and have airflow without getting a headache in the process.

I lose bass and stereo sound while I plug in the red and green audio plug of my headset to separate ports of my pc. Please Help!

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 03:16 AM PST

Hi. So I got a new Cosmic Byte gaming headset. It has a pair of red and green audio plugs which are obviously for mic and speakers. But when I plug them in two different red and green ports, the mic works and the headphone does too, but for some reason the sound is mono and there is zero bass in any sound I hear. Plus the volume is a little low too. However, If I plug in the wires through an adapter which converts the two green and red plugs into a single plug, and the insert it into the headphone jack of my pc, I get the base and stereo back, but now I'm not able to use the mic. I tried updating drivers but they were already updated to the latest version. Pls sand halp!

Edit: Fixed the problem. I went to the Realtek Audio Manager, Device Advanced settings, and clicked on 'Separate all input jacks as separate devices'. But now there is a new problem. Any sound I hear for some reason echoes, like its being said in a large, empty room. I'm pretty sure I screwed something up. Pls sand moar halp!

Windows 10 lag on Right click on Desktop, Opening Apps (Including Chrome, Firefox) on Intel HD 630 [VIDEO INCLUDED]

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 03:13 AM PST

I've got a GigaByte Aero 15 recently. It comes with GTX 1060 and Intel 630.

There were too many bloatware on the system and so the first thing I did was to Clean install Windows 10 on it.

I've been noticing a very peculiar issue with this system. On Clicking right click on the desktop, or opening apps, or Opening new tabs on Firefox etc..the mouse stops responding for a second or two. This only happens on the laptop (when Intel HD 630 is powering the system) and on external display(When 1060 is powering the system) the system works flawlessly.

This video might explain it better: link

This also doesn't happen if uninstall the HD630 drivers and run the system on generic Windows driver.

The only two conclusions I could come up with :

    • The Drivers of HD 630 is faulty. However, that seems unlikely considering how many places HD630 is used.

    • It's a hardware defect.

Let me know if there's an obvious thing I'm missing or I will replace the system.

My laptop shuts down while gaming

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 03:08 AM PST

    Hello Techsupport

I've got an old laptop from 2012, but at the time had the best of the best hardware. AMD 7970M crossfire eg. but recently one of the graphics cards sorta crashed so I only use one of them now.

After about 2 months after missing one graphics card, my laptop has started turning off when running with high GPU%. I, therefore, thought that the graphics card didn't receive enough power. When gaming I reduced my use of GPU%, but now I've reached the point where I just have to start a game when it turns off.

I'm 99% sure it's not due to direct overheating. The laptop is completely cold and SpeedFan says it does not reach 50 degrees C. I have even tested with a cooling plate below where the laptop also turns off. But the fans are going crazy as soon as I turn on the PC, so do not know if there is a problem reading the temperature and the pc thinks it should shut down to take care of hardware.

In addition, I have often cleaned the inside dust and seems kind of clean. Needless to say, there is missing a graphics card, so there is a lot of void inside the laptop, and some cooling arms (?) may be slightly loose. When I run Windows logbook I find this one worth noting:

    Critical: kernel power 41

    Error: Service Control Manager 7034

    Error: DistributedCOM 10016

I also tested all RAM and these should work, I'm pretty sure. I really do not know what I can do more, so hope you have some suggestions. thanks :)

Headsets constantly disconnect and reconnect for apparently no reason and at semi-random times. Windows10

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 02:41 AM PST

So I had a new PC built for me by a professional recently and it works great aside from this one super weird problem I'm having. While using a USB headset (I've tried three different ones, they all do it) my computer will sometimes decide to just infinitely disconnect and reconnect them.

It's only sort of random, because I know that certain things will trigger the loop to happen, but they only trigger it some times and what actually does trigger the loop is never really consistent. It just seems like it triggers when I do something.

What I mean is, sometimes if I open the steam client it will cause it to happen, and sometimes it won't. Certain things are more likely to trigger it however. Opening anything that uses a "launcher" will almost always trigger the loop, like starting Final Fantasy X for example.

Discord is one of the "consistent random" apps that will do it, and is the weirdest culprit.

It will trigger, not when opening discord, but when joining a voice channel (Only sometimes though). And not only that, when it triggers via discord, it's the only time that restarting my PC doesn't make it go away. I have to completely leave the voice channel, and anyone who was in the voice channel has to leave as well. Then I have to completely close discord through task manager and restart my PC to go back to normal.

I've been troubleshooting this issue for about a 2 months now with no real results. The closest I got, that really isn't even progress I suppose, is that I found a super obscure post saying that disabling USB power suspension in power settings could possibly fix it. Doing so made it go away for about a day, but honestly I've gone 2 or 3 days before doing nothing without it happening so....I doubt it helped at all realistically.

I would really appreciate any help yall can offer and I'd be willing to answer more questions I didn't know I needed to tell you about. I also made a gif of what my devices look like while it's doing it for a visual aid.

New FTTN router, 5ghz not visible on most devices

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 02:40 AM PST

So I've got a new router which is connected to our terrible FTTN system in Australia. However I now have a huge problem it's dual and and sending out both networks. My iPhone picks up the 5ghz and I get fast speeds, however my PC, PS4 and laptop is only picking up the 2.4ghz and I get a sweet 1Mbps.... Is there anything I can do on my router to fix this?
