Usb-C cables that don't suck, anybody have any suggestions? Posted: 06 Jan 2018 03:57 PM PST It's been about 8 months, and i have went through 3 separate usb-c cables, one OEM charging cable that came with my phone (Axon 7 mini, lasted 3 months), a replacement cable from wal-mart ($6, lasted 3 months), and a 10 foot braided cable from Fred Meyers ($20, lasted 2 before it's only charging when the cable is in a certain position). Anybody here have any suggestions on a good charging cable? One that you've had for over a year? I'm tired of buying a new charging cable every couple of months, it would be nice if i had something that will last me at least a year. [link] [comments] |
Disable biometrics when scanning specific finger Posted: 06 Jan 2018 06:31 PM PST Can android distinguish different fingerprints? Would it be possible to e.g. Set up my index finger to unlock my phone, my middle finger to disable biometrics so it can only be unlocked with the password and the pinky to fully reset the phone? Or some other security related decisions? Iirc iOS will disable the biometrics after 10 unsuccessful tries. Android just appears to timeout after 5? Was just reading an article how you can refuse to give your password to authorities, but not your fingerprint. This would be a way to increase security of your device quite considerably without complicating things. [link] [comments] |
Does rooting any phone cause android pay not work? Posted: 06 Jan 2018 07:43 PM PST I have a samsung which has knox and installing a custom rom and rooting with magisk trips knox and causes android pay (and samsung pay) not to work. Do other android stock ROMs do this? I've heard people praising magisk because it still lets them use android pay. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jan 2018 08:10 PM PST I play a game that does not have "no sound" option, so whenever I start it while listening to music/podcast, I need to go back and hit "play" on the podcast. Is there a way to deny an app the use of speakers? [link] [comments] |
Removing apps from play store account Posted: 06 Jan 2018 01:19 PM PST So I know it's possible on mobile to remove apps from your account but is it possible on pc? I have tons of unused apps clogging up the list and removing them one by one is exceptionally slow. [link] [comments] |
How to update credit card expiry in Android Pay? Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:20 PM PST My card expires end of this month, I've already received and activated my new card but I'm not sure how to update Android Pay with the new expiry date, don't see an option to edit my card, only to remove it. Is there a maximum number of texts that sms backup and restore can handle? Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:13 PM PST I have around 50k text messages, but some of my older ones seem to be missing. I use sms backup and restore (the one Carbonite just sold off) and I'm wondering if there's a limit to its capabilities, or perhaps the capabilities afforded to that database in Android itself. The ones I noticed missing are group messages, if that matters at all. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jan 2018 09:57 PM PST Does anyone have any idea what app this is? It started showing up when I charge my phone, with random ads included. It doesn't indicate a name, and I've tried uninstalling recent apps with no luck. For reference, I'm running a Samsung Galaxy Note 8. [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to upgrade BlueStacks or Andy from KitKat? Posted: 06 Jan 2018 09:32 PM PST Both BlueStacks and Andy run KitKat. I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade either one to a more modern version of Android. Google was absolutely no help. [link] [comments] |
Recommended antivirus for android phone? Posted: 06 Jan 2018 11:07 AM PST I know that genrally speaking antivirus is not neccesary on phones. But i would like some additional security, "just to be sure". I find a lot of top 10 lists on the internet, but i would like your opinions. It doesn't have to be free. [link] [comments] |
Comparison of phones in Canada Posted: 06 Jan 2018 08:10 AM PST Is there a list comparing the top flagship phones available in Canada? I'm sick of looking at individual phone specs and comparing them. [link] [comments] |
Bluetooth audio skipping only on games. Posted: 06 Jan 2018 07:36 AM PST I just got a brand new factory unlocked Galaxy S8 and I am having the exact same issue that I had with my previous LG. When using either Bluetooth headphones or speaker the audio skips and jumps making the games unplayable. Hopefully there is an easy fix for this . Any ideas? I'm on Android 7.0 by the way. Posted: 06 Jan 2018 07:17 AM PST Ok, so I don't know if this is possible but here we go. Can I take an old android phone, install an app, and have it make my other phone/google home mini think that it is a chromecast audio device? Like, make the old phone appear to other devices as a chromecast Audio device. Asking because I do have an app that makes other devices think it's a Apple TV, but would also like it to be a chromecast audio. Edit for clarification : I was hoping for an app that will show up as a chromecast speaker in the google home app so I can put my home mini's music on another speaker (connected to said phone via 3.5mm) Thanks! No notification sounds unless unlocked Posted: 06 Jan 2018 02:40 PM PST I've got a Pixel 1 XL on 8.1.0 December patch level. I got it in December and have set it up with all my notification sounds. At first, it worked fine. Now when the phone is locked and screen of, the phone only vibrates for all notifications. If the phone is unlocked at the home screen, I can hear notification sounds. This goes for Signal, Google Messages (SMS), and phone calls. My volumes are all turned up. If I swipe down to look at the quick settings, I can see the sound icon is grayed out, but it says "Do not disturb". I tap the down arrow for DND and the slider is set to on. I change the slider to OFF and hit done, but when I go back into that setting it shows as on again. What the heck is going on?? Thanks for the assistance! Edit: Ok I tested some more. If the screen is unlocked I still don't get any sounds. Just vibration. [link] [comments] |

Google assistant from lock screen- unlocks phone every time? Posted: 06 Jan 2018 06:19 PM PST So, this is a bit of a long question. Back story: I have a pixel 2, use fingerprint authentication, and use assistant to control my Chromecast through my Google home speaker and/or my phone. Basically when I say a command, my phone and my speaker hear it and when I have the setting "unlock with voice match" on, my phone will unlock and when my phone recognizes that the speaker is taking my query, the phone stays unlocked and stays on until the screen times out. If I have voice match unlock turned off, it's not a problem HOWEVER, this poses a problem when I'm away from home because whenever I say hey Google to my phone, i have to put in my fingerprint to use assistant. Is there any way to make assistant work on the lock screen and then the phone turns back off? I'm not worried at all about privacy; I only use imprint because it's faster than swiping and I have to use it for Android pay. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jan 2018 11:57 AM PST Hey r/AndroidQuestions, Today I bought my girlfriend a new phone, and so launched the new device (A5 2017) and she connected to her google play account (the one she was using on her previous devices) and she downloaded her favorite games, Clash Royal and Clash of Clans. I thank you in advance, and I hope you could help us, she really loves thoose two games, and I don't want to announce her she can't transfer to her new device... EDIT1:Just want to precise that both thoose Clash Royal and Clash of Clans accounts are linked to no google account [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:22 AM PST From the last update of the Google app I can't set Google Assistant as voice input (the option is disabled) if the Google App is not set as assist app. This is strange because before I could use another app as assist app (activated by long pressing the home button) and use Google Assistant anyway. I'm using Action Launcher so I could activate Assistant by pressing a button of the search bar in my home screen. Can someone tell me if there's a way to use Google Assistant without using Google as assist app? I attached 2 links that contain screenshots of what I'm talking about. PS: "Basic Google recognition" is the basic Google voice research. [link] [comments] |
"Package conflicts with an existing package by the same name" problem Posted: 06 Jan 2018 05:44 PM PST I recently just got a new S8 and Rogers pre-installed Spotify and it won't allow me to uninstall it. so whenever I try to install to apk premium version of Spotify it says the package conflicts with an existing package by the same name. is there a way to bypass this without having to root my phone? how do I remove an old Google account's contacts from my device? Posted: 06 Jan 2018 08:51 AM PST In an old job, I added a work account (a .edu email managed by Google) to my android phone. I no longer have access to that account. The account name doesn't show up in my settings, or anywhere else on my phone as far as I can tell. What I do have on my phone, and would like to get rid of, are a bunch of contacts associated with that old job and old account. None of these contacts show up when I access contacts.google.com with the accounts I still have access to. Is there a way to purge all data from my device associated with this lost account? (I don't think there's any data left other than these contacts, but if there is, I'd want that stuff gone as well.) Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jan 2018 05:34 PM PST When I swipe left to access Google Apps the primary information it is displaying are news articles. If I want to want to see upcoming events I have to click the "inbox" icon. Is there anyway I can include my upcoming events on the main page? I've included a screenshot to better explain what I mean. Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:00 AM PST I received a Galaxy S4 from a friend which is/was locked to ATT, I'm on Verizon. I received the unlock code from ATT and followed the instructions (turn off phone, take out battery, insert SIM card, turn phone on, input unlock code) but my phone is not registering any change. ATT gives you five chances to input your unlock code before the phone becomes locked to ATT for good. I have not received any notification on the phone that my first try inputting the unlock code did not register, but I still can't make a call I am not picking up the Verizon network. I have tried powering down the phone, taking the battery out and SIM card and reinstalling but that has not made any change and there has been no prompt telling me to input the unlock code again. Help accessing deceased mother's samsung s4 Posted: 06 Jan 2018 07:24 AM PST Hi, My mum died suddenly at the beginning of december, and neither me or my sister have many recent photos of her - long story short, I'd like to recover photos from her phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-19505) hopefully to find some more recent photos of her. It's locked by a password, and we've tried every password we can remember her having to no avail. Is there a way to recover the photos? Edit: Have contacted carrier, and they are unwilling/unable to do anything. Thanks in advance, J [link] [comments] |
