Windows 7 loading up a temporary profile after a Windows update, I've tried to fix this with different methods, and it's not working.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:58 PM PST

SYSTEM SPECS: Windows 7 Home Premium PC Make: HP PC Model: p7-1131 Processor: Intel Core i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz RAM: 8GB System Type: 64-bit operating system

After noticing that Windows recently installed some updates, I got this message about being logged on with a temporary profile. After a Google search and doing the two methods as listed on both this website* and this one, I'm still having my PC boot up with the temp. profile. This issue is serious, as I have crucial files that I need to tend to on my regular profile.

Also, when I tried to change the original .bak profile the first time, I renamed the other profile on there ending with _new. Then, when I went back to check it again after reading I should re-name the one to _temp, I noticed that my renamed profile ending in _new was still there, so now this is what it looks like. I don't know what to rename or delete, so I'm leaving them all alone for now.

*- I didn't actually go through with the other remaining steps this site had to offer; I didn't want to to go through the hassle of creating a new user account.

"You need to format the disk", I need a good rescue tool for usb sticks.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:15 AM PST

I got a Lexar 128 gig stick that suddenly started to give me the error message that it's not formatted and needs to be done so to be used. I think this happened after a friend of mine stuck it in his mac and pulled it out without unmounting. I tried to mount it in a mac since then, but that doesn't work either.

I've been googling around a bit and tried a few programs, but they didn't find any partitions on the thumb drive. The ones I have tried so far is "Testdisk" and "Find and Mount" but neither could even find a partition to work on.

So is there any way to save the data on this thumbdrive?

    Windows 10 won't boot

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:12 PM PST

    Tl:DR: can't boot because of a problem o x: which is protected so I can't repair

So I've had this problem for some time. Today I decided to fully shutdown my computer (which has that quick startup option) just to get it fully settled down on its archives. And lo and behold it wouldn't boot, at first it would run across the automatic repair screen but to no avail. After some tempering with the console I discovered that's there is something corrupted on the boot part at my HD which is in X: so i went to chkdsk /r /f but no says my computer. It seems that this boot drive is write protected. Any ideas how to take the protection off? I tried through diskpart but no success (maybe I did something wrong though couse the guides were showing to remove from a disk but I want to remove from a volume. So any ideas? Please tell me if I'm completely wrong on my assumptions. Please I need to know if I alone can fix this because my classes are gonna to beging soon and I need this boy running.

Relevant info: Windows 10 64 bits. Tried /scannnow. The Normal HD is fine runned dskchk no problem. Error on screen is 0xc00001. Srttrail.txt say it is a patch. Last sucesful boot was on 10/01/2018 (due to this quick startup feature). My last recovery point is from 21/01 I tried but it didn't work.

[WIN10] Is it possible to lock a new user out of the C drive?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 04:33 PM PST

I'm creating a 2nd account on my PC for a family member, but I would rather them not find my NSFW stuff on the C drive. Is it possible to create a new User so that they require a password to access my files outside of the browser?

How can I have specific programs assigned to different audio outputs? Win 10

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 04:27 PM PST

Service "ehRecvr" disrupts Listening to audio input.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 12:39 PM PST

I'm having a very frustrating problem that suddenly started happening, and I have no idea how to fix it.

    Some background of my scenario:

I have a HTPC (Windows 7 Ultimate 64, Service Pack 1) that I use primarily to watch and record OTA TV using a HDHomeRun and an antenna. Since this is always on and connected to my AV receiver with good speakers, I also have my Amazon Echo connected via a stereo cable to the HTPC through an audio input jack. In the settings menu of this audio input device, I have "Listen" checked so that the Echo's output is mixed with the Windows system audio and output to the AV receiver and speakers. This allows me to listen to content on my HTPC or listen to the Echo on the same set of speakers and without switching inputs. For a long time, this was working perfectly.

Recently, however, this no longer works. Whenever live or recorded TV was played in Windows Media Center, the audio from the Echo cut out. After doing some investigating, the Mixer panel for Windows Sound shows that when TV is played, the Line In device is removed and replaced with "Host Services for Windows."

After some more digging, I've determined that this "Host Services for Windows" is more specifically a windows service called "ehRecvr" with a display name of "Windows Media Center Receiver Service." The description is: "Windows Media Center Service for TV and FM broadcast reception." Every time that live or recorded TV is played, this service starts and it shuts down the Line In set with Listen. I can no longer hear audio coming from my Echo.

While doing some troubleshooting, I determined:

    • No matter what audio input/output jack I used to Listen, it still gets hidden by ehRecvr

    • I've even tried an external USB stereo sound adapter thinking it could be a problem with my motherboard's jacks

    • Playing other media like downloaded video or music through Windows Media Center does NOT interrupt the listening in on the Line In

    • Manually stopping the ehRecvr from the Services section of Computer Management allows for the Line In audio to be heard, but stops playback of live and recorded TV in Windows Media Center

I'm really frustrated because it use to work just fine. I could watch live or recorded TV and still hear my Echo. I'm hoping someone out there might be able to pinpoint why this has started happening.

My computer keeps freezing after 5 minutes, how can I go about fixing it when I don't know the problem?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:48 PM PST

I haven't downloaded anything new or been on any sites I don't go on, I've not been playing any different games so I don't know where the problem came from but it doesn't matter what I'm doing it could be as simple as opening cc cleaner, it'll work for 5 minutes then completely freeze

Is it from a new windows update or something? Because it freezes when trying to download a new update as well..

[Win7] Is there a more comprehensive way to keep track of and understand your desktop themes?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:17 PM PST

The way I normally do it in Win7 is thru the "customise" or "themes" menu where you have a grid view of all pics in a folder, then you tick each one you want, but if you have waay over 300 pics in a folder, this can become really cumbersome, especially when it doesn't even tell you how many pics you currently have selected per theme (and the only indication is a tiny little box with a tick among a list of 100's of images), or what folder they came from, meaning you have to constantly go up/down the list, slowly seeing what is selected and what isn't. Theres another, much quicker way to create themes which is basically to just select things directly from the image folders themselves, but again, this gives you no clue of how many images are in the theme, where they came from etc (I don't want diff themes with duplicate images).

Does anyone know if theres a better way to handle themes in Win7, maybe a non intrusive 3rd party app? I know theres a better way to handle the audio system in Win7 (an app called Vol.2, its much better than the stock tools, and is 100% free).

    Thanks all!

Desktop/windows HUGE problem with windows key

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 09:28 AM PST

This is my first time posting here as I've been extremely unsuccessful with any other attempts with windows or hp. I'm hoping somebody can stir me in the right direction.

My hp desktop got a virus, I brought it in to a gentleman who wiped my computer. This was around 3-4 years ago. I guess he put in a trial windows key so every 4 hours a blue screen pops up and asks for my windows key. I put in a number I thought was the key but it never worked. I can also just close the blue screen but it's very annoying as it keeps popping up randomly, interrupting whatever I'm doing. So I call support. A static line with someone who can barely speak English is telling me the key is on the back of my desktop. THERE IS NO KEY. I know what to look for and it is not there. I tell the person this and they are giving me no help and acting confused barely understanding what I'm saying, eventually they tell me to go to the store I bought the computer and tell them it has no key.... ok... I go to store, tell them and they ask for my receipt. Idk about you guys but I don't have my receipt from years past. So they basically tell me it's not there problem and to call hp or windows which I do and they tell me to go to store and it's a repeat. It seems my only option is to buy windows which I do not think is fair. Does anybody have any recommendations on what I should do.

Name of screen recording software for tutorials that narrates your keyboard/actions automatically?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:42 AM PST

I used to have this software and completely forgot the name but it was basically like a screen recording software but it would automatically add text to the video that would describe your actions like what you clicked and what keys you pressed, etc.

Anyone know the name of this software?

Targeting a drive for Windows 10 installation?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 12:27 PM PST

So I downloaded the media creator tool and created an iso and an image on my flash drive.

Now how do I installed Windows on the empty drive I've got set up for a new installation?

I thought since the drive is connected, I could start the installation while I'm in Windows and eventually it would allow me to select a disk to format and install on - you know, how the sensible installation media for previous versions did it.

Oh no, what this useless, stupid thing did was to drag me through the installation process, spend 3 hours installing Windows Updates and boot me back into my existing Windows installation...

    SO not what I planned...

Now I want to try the usb drive but I'd rather not have to disconnect every hard drive to make sure that the one I want to install on is the only one there... if I can help it.

I also really don't need it formatting my existing drive and my data drive because it thinks those would be better drives to install onto...

So how do I make sure this uses the right hard drive?

    USB installation problems.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 06:19 AM PST

Hi friends, I have a USB stick ready to boot and install W10.

Problem is, apparently when I try to start the installation, (Which means that already I'm inside the windows interface) it pops an msg that I don't have any drivers to use the USB. Problem that the same message I'll get (in English since I'll do it in Spanish)

As dumb as it sounds I have no god damn clue how to do or fix that (I have another system (Linux) in case something needs to be downloaded) been looking around internet and apparently, the Gigabyte MB have those issues, in this case, Gigabyte A-B85M-DS3H - Placa base (Intel Socket 1150, DDR3-SDRAM, HDMI, DVI, VGA, SATA3, MicroATX) this is my MB

Which also been looking some drivers that allow me to use the windows stick (using two sticks on for the boot, the second one with the drivers) but wasn't able to find anything that works

What should I do? try to find the drivers? I don't even know if regular drivers would do or if I had to look out for something specific since its something that's gonna be installed below the Windows?

Any help will be much appreciated, Thanks in advance.

    Windows Scheduled Updates

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 09:22 AM PST

I am just curious if you schedule automatic udpates, and allow it to reboot, will it do multiple updates and reboot's if needed? Or will it only do one reboot.

When you do them by hand you often have to install, reboot, check again, reboot, check again.

Just curious if scheduling them does that as well.
