Posted: 04 Jan 2018 04:15 PM PST So... I recently switched from my windows machine to Ubuntu. So far it's been pretty cool, but I have one obvious problem: I can't run windows Applications on Linux. The main problem are the Adobe Applications. I tried installing them with Wine and it kinda worked, but only the 32-bit versions. And it doesn't feel nice. So I think I will switch back to windows so all my applications run properly. I heard about Windows Subsystem for Linux and I thought it's kinda cool. Basically my old windows 10 machine but with a Linux bash inside! Awesome! Does anybody have tried the WSL feature? Is it cool? It would really like to hear you opinion. BTW I'm a web developer for anyone who is interested... So I do stuff like apache, node.js, mysql on linux. [link] [comments]

Trying to use windows boot usb but it failed? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 07:49 PM PST https://imgur.com/BJOc3np That's a picture of what happens when I boot from the usb I just created using the media creation tool. Did I do something wrong, did the tool fail, can I fix this? If I move the files off the USB to a folder on my desktop it works fine, but when its on the usb it fails [link] [comments]
Windows 10 computer not working outside of safe mode Posted: 04 Jan 2018 03:54 PM PST My computer froze while updating today (even the spinning balls animation froze) and I forced my computer shut with the power button. Now, when I boot my computer, every other time it boots into nothing and the display will shut down, and every other time it boots into the automatic repair screen. If I select safe mode from there, then the booting will be successful. What can I do to make my computer be able to boot outside of safe mode? [link] [comments]
Is there a hotkey/program I can use to switch which program is on my primary and secondary monitor? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 07:38 PM PST I use a 2 monitors, one is 1080p and the other is and old vga (not sure the resolution) monitor. I often will have something not important/just using for light referencing on the older one. However, often I become interested in reading more on the Vga monitor and I am looking for a faster way to switch which program is on which. Clicking and dragging both web browsers across the screens is not hard but is there a hot key or program that can swap them for me? [link] [comments]
Split mobo 3.5mm out and front panel 3.5mm out into two devices? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 03:40 PM PST I just got speakers and want to keep them in the back port and i have headphones and want to keep them in the front panel. I also have eq settings for each so i need to make two audio devices like in playback settings. how do i do this? [link] [comments]
Windows update causing all USB ports to stop working. Posted: 04 Jan 2018 03:14 PM PST i've never had these issues before. Since the last windows update, it causes all USB ports to stop working, including the mouse and keyboard, essentially making the computer useless. In order to get access to this, I had to format the computer, make sure it was always connected to wifi and make it remote desktop accessible. When my ports stop working I would get on a different computer and connect through remote desktop, then go into device manager and uninstall all USB ports, then install the chipset that came with the motherboard (Asus z270e) which would make all USB ports working again. However, windows immediately wants to update and as soon as I restart my computer, it overwrites my drivers and causing all usb ports to stop functioning again. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to download the newest update to an external hard drive? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 06:50 PM PST I'm running on a machine with a very small amount of memory (this one if it matters). The newest update says it needs 8GB of space to download. System and reserved takes up 16GB, and my apps and other stuff takes up just under 9GB, so in order to create that space, I would need to do an entire factory reset on my computer to clear out every single app, which is ridiculous. I've looked around online and there's nothing I've found that has helped. Was hoping that maybe someone on here knew a workaround. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 06:39 PM PST So I'm on windows 10 and when I check for updates nothing appears. Will I have to download it manually? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 11:33 AM PST I'm a network engineer, so I'm not completely oblivious to technology. I know to troubleshoot and all that before I blame anything or anyone for my troubles. But it seems more and more that (with my tinfoil hat on) that this OS is designed to screw up when it's time for forced updates? Does anyone have a more founded explanation? [link] [comments]

Do I have the latest cpu patch? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 01:40 PM PST Hello, everyone panic about the cpu bugs, meltdown etc. I checked the update on my windows 10 and it tells me that my device is up to date. Latest check, couple minutes ago. So I have the "fix" installed I guess? EDITED Got this now. No issues whatsoever right now [link] [comments]

Windows Server Performance vs. Windows (Desktop) Performance Posted: 04 Jan 2018 10:25 AM PST Hey, I'm wondering if there's any performance difference at all in games with Windows Server editions as compared to the standard desktop editions of Windows? One of my friends claims she got around a 7 FPS gain in GTA V with Windows server. If you need exact editions to compare, let's just use the latest. (Windows Server 2016 vs. Windows 10 Pro) [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 05:37 AM PST Hello folks, I have touble getting my power plan to work on my PC. It keeps changing to "Balanced" and hence it is going to sleep, when I created my own plan to never sleep. Is there a way to "force" a power plan via regedit? Specs: AMD Ryzen 1700x 16GB RAM 1 SSD 2 HDDs GTX 1080ti ASUS Prime X370-Pro I dont use Bitdefender which seems to override this. Any ideas? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 08:03 AM PST Hey all, I made the mistake of using kingoroot to root my android phone and installed it on my windows 7 laptop. I cancelled the root at about 70% and uninstalled it from my laptop/phone etc. I heard that there is a possibility that kingoroot lingers on the laptop and was wondering if there is any way to confirm that it is completely deleted on my system. Thanks [link] [comments]
Outlook Contact Group as individual emails?? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 07:15 AM PST So I have a couple larger contact groups created for customers of mine based off market segments they work in. For sake of this question lets call the one group "Accounts" I like to send email blasts out with marketing material but to my knowledge if I have that group chosen as the "To:" it will send the email out and each email address will be listed for everyone to see. Is there a way to send a mass email with my contact group and have them sent as individual emails so each user doesn't see all the other email addresses? I know I can BCC but that is a last case option for me. (Salesforce.com issue with linking BCC emails to my accounts file for call logging/monitoring) [link] [comments]
VHDX file locked, forgot to detach it before shutdown Posted: 04 Jan 2018 02:38 AM PST Hi, I've been using a Virtual Hard Drive attached in Disk Manager for backups, and during tests I forgot to unmount (detach) it before to shutdown the computer. Now whenever I try to attach it both within disk manager or using diskpart, on any computer, it says "file already in use by another process". I can move it and rename it (it's on a NAS), but it still says it's already in use. I remember that happens 100% of time when it's not unmounted properly in the first place, and I think that in the past I used a workaround to "unlock" the file "resaving" it somehow, can't find it anymore... Thanks for your help ! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 05:05 AM PST I'm trying to image 30 computers with a development environment already to go, but I want to sysprep them so that each person that gets their computer can change its name and password in an easy way. But whenever I Sysprep/Generalize, it removes most of the software/files that are on the system. After a bunch of googling, I still can't figure out, how do I Sysprep/Generalize a machine, and still leave most everything be? [link] [comments]
