Posted: 01 Jan 2018 11:24 PM PST Hey all, this is my 1st post and i just made this account to call upon whomever i can for help. As some of you might know, since 1979's Iranian revolution or "specially" since 4 days ago when the protests began, Iranian government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is trying really hard to silence the people's voices. Either by showing the world footage of a select few hundred people chanting "Death to America", or by limiting and blocking our access to anywhere we can talk freely, and not fear the consequences. There's this messaging app which is HUGE in Iran with more than 40 million users, the Telegram app. Now i understand security margins for Telegram are rather thin, but a "secret chat" with End-to-End encryption could mean the difference between living your life and not being fearful if you said a thing or two, or being taken away by IRGC and being harshly tortured and interrogated. not to mention public channels of telegram in which you can anonymously read about news etc. One thing to mention is since this movement doesn't really have a leader and every Iranian protester has decided to come to streets on their own, I don't see myself as being unimportant and unimpactful anymore. Nobody's bound to follow strict guidelines on "how" or "what" to protest for, so if I'm self educated regarding humanities science or if i have a small group of friends with some nice ideas about how to make things less violent, I MATTER, and people actually listen to(and debate about) my (and other people's) ideas. And as I've already said, I'm not a fan of people getting angrier or the protests getting more harsh and unpredictable. So i try to do what i can, to bypass the blockage using different methods, and expressing my opinions on how to make it work without much violence, or how to create change without being shot(sadly, nearly 15 protestors have already died). But I largely fail at being able to even access Twitter or Telegram. I've been trying out different programs to bypass the blockage, I've since tried: Hotspot(blocked), Psiphon3(VERY slow, what I'm using right now at around 7am for higher speed), Tor(doesn't work), Lantern(doesn't work). One thing to mention is that psiphon3 -being nearly the only functioning one- is very suspicious to me, specially since the government is advertising THEIR OWN VPN (lol) and i know that it's being monitored so logically i can't trust that(duh). So can you help me by suggesting safe programs or VPNs i can use both on my cell-phone and laptop? I'll surely pass the information on to my friends so they can have safe and free access to the internet too. P.S. If anyone has any questions regarding Iran's situation I'd be glad to clarify. P.P.S I was advised by a mod to move my post to this subreddit. Me: I'm studying M.S. in a rather high-tech major in Tehran, which (I later found out that) there are no job opportunities for, except working for the government or IRGC, on non-civil projects which i hate. TL;DR: Help me breach net blockage in Iran by suggesting safe programs or VPNs so i can have a voice in Telegram or Twitter and try to make things less aggressive and suggest methods of peaceful protesting. Neighbor's Radio Tower interferes with my DSL internet connection. Posted: 01 Jan 2018 06:28 PM PST Whenever my neighbor uses his radio tower, it interferes with my internet connection and ends up slowing it down. I've tried changing the channel, reducing and even turning off wireless capabilities on my modem. I called him and he kept saying it was my microphone causing the problems. Soon after he kept talking to his trucker friends that he's going to teach me a lesson and ended up strengthening his signal. It used to slow down a bit but now when he talks, my connection gets so slow it's unusable or it straight up halts it. Is there any way I can solve this problem and block out his radio signals? I'm pretty much open to any ideas and suggestions. I'll supply more information when needed. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:35 AM PST Well first off, are these extra files created in the transfer from Mac to Windows just metadata or are they crucial for the photos themselves? Could I have lost any photos in the transfer from Mac to Windows due to incompatibility or will I still have all of my photos? I have since organized my photos into different files according to different dates and I am wondering if there is any way to recover that data. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
How can I sync my external HDD, Android Device and Ubuntu OS without using a command line tool? Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:55 AM PST I want to sync all those three devices as I want to be free from 3rd party web based services. I want total control of my data. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2018 09:58 PM PST I held shift when restarting and went to the options to restart it like I googled, but when it came back up I couldn't see any options, I pushed f4 and enter like it said but that didn't do anything. My C drive is completely full and I need to delete this file. [link] [comments] |
BSOD/Crash caused by connecting to wifi Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:39 AM PST Since this morning I've been having problems caused by my wifi adapter causing hard freezes and BSOD's when it connects to my home router. The problem is super reproducible, everytime I enable the the wifi adapter and connect to my home network it crashes within 10-20 seconds. It connects just fine and I'm even able to open chrome/begin loading web pages but inevitably it will hang and then BSOD or lock up completely. My drivers are all up to date, I've spent all day on that but still the problem persists. I'm currently using the computer with an ethernet cable plugged in and it's having no problems whatsoever. Speccy: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/0HbAohuPwis4sKJ5e3Tq1ma I've done system file checker, checkdisk, used ccleaner to clean up the registry etc., updated drivers. I've tried uninstalling the network adapter and reinstalling it with the latest drivers etc. This is the blue screen dump text: https://paste.rtechsupport.org/view/0f8fb4e0 I'd like to avoid having to do a fresh OS install if possible. Thanks for your help in advance! [link] [comments] |

Monitor Flickering (Benq XL2730Z, Benq GL2450, R9 Fury) Posted: 02 Jan 2018 03:35 AM PST Hello! A week ago, after a Windows Update I started to encounter screen flickering on my main monitor (XL2730Z). Every few seconds it flickers, it's too much to be ignored unfortunately.. Also the font on the Main monitor has changed (it looks too small), when I drag a window from the Main monitor to the second monitor it clearly changes. Also a second issue I've encountered after said update, that the explorer.exe gets stuck, resulting in the Taskbar gettings stuck and always being in the foreground and being not responsive anymore no matter what i do. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling my Driver. Refitting the graphics card, using HDMI/Displayport cables. Windows is up to date. I tried changing the refresh rate from 60 to 144, 120, 100.. but nothing changes the flickering stays. (It gets faster the higher the refresh rate is) My setup is: Windows 10, Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.125) Monitors: BENQ XL2730Z (The one who has flickering problems) BENQ GL2450 (Works perfectly fine) Intel i5-6600k CPU AMD Radeon R9 Fury (Saphire) 16GB RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3000Mhz Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming 7 Corsair RM650i ATX 640 Watt Samsung 850 EVO 120GB Samsung (some other Evo) 256GB WD Blue 1TB I really don't know what to do about this flickering.. its super annoying and makes it hard to work on the computer.. (I'm using just the working one for now..) edit: I've also tried turning Free Sync on and Off, aswell as Virtual Super Resolution. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 03:31 AM PST Hi guys first time poster with a tricky little situation. Upgraded the better halfs PC over Xmas. Bought new mobo and a second hand i5 CPU to upgrade the unit. Since it's been running it has random freezes with no BSOD and no consistency to it. Alarm bells went off when I tried installing it windows 10 and it took about 6 attempts before it installed. Part of me thinks it's either the mobo or cpu that's at fault. I've replaced the following with my own kit to see if the problem still happened which it did (gpu, ram, psu, sad and multiple usbs which have windows on it). The problem still happens :'( Any advice as to how to determine the problem whether it is a faulty mobo or cpu? Anything I could try? Cheers guys [link] [comments] |
Moving into a basement apt. Options for running wired ethernet downstairs? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 12:23 PM PST Moving into the basement of my sisters house. She has AT&T and is paying a stupid amount a month of course. She also has no ethernet options downstairs. If she will give me full access to her account i can work out a deal possibly to have them run ethernet to the basement. (Shes paying $175 a mth for something thats worth $100) So if she doesnt allow me to take over the internet and tv what are my options? I'd like it to be clean and not a 200ft cat5 running downstairs and have read mixed reviews about those adapters you plug into an outlet. Any ballpark to have a pro do it? I can drill a hole through the floor and run the wire but i cant run it through the walls. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |

App protection on company wifi using PERSONAL cell phone? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 12:20 PM PST If using banking, Snapchat and Kik apps on company wifi, can they exactly see what my banking statement's are and messages I'm sending? Or can they simply see I was on _____ app at ____ time? I'm assuming thier traffic is encrypted by the apps to a extent, or that would be a huge privacy liability. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2018 02:55 AM PST Hey folks I have an XPS13 9360 laptop and want to get some external monitors. I was thinking a dual monitor set up with the AOC I2481FXH 23.8 inch monitors. These are 1920*1080p monitors. Firstly, how would I go about connecting both of them, would I need a USB to hdmi hub? And also would this even be doable? The reason I'm asking is because when I'm at home I want to use a bigger display. If this is doable is it then possible to entirely bypass the internal monitor of the laptop when used with the dual setup (QHD+ has weird scaling). Sorry if this isn't well worded I'm very new to this side of tech. Also apologies if this is the wrong place. Cheers. [link] [comments] |

What is this ticking static noise in these recordings, and what can I do about it? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 04:55 PM PST I recently got a ModMic 4, but no matter what I plug it into, if I turn the volume up I can hear this static clicking noise that intermittently gets louder, or barely audible. Something keeps minimizing my fullscreen games, how do I find out what's doing it? Posted: 02 Jan 2018 02:31 AM PST I have recently run into an extremely vexxing problem. I'm a PC gamer who games a lot on Steam, and I've noticed in multiple games in the last few days that I'll be playing the game and then for no apparent reason it'll minimize the game and take me to desktop. No popup, no message, nothing to indicate why it did it. I am really scared since this problem seems to have randomly reared its head with no apparent action on my part as I had not downloaded any system updates or new programs or anything that would cause system behavior to be altered like that. I don't like not knowing why my computer is doing something, because for all I know it's a symptom of a much more serious problem. I ran an Avast full system scan to be sure but it came up blank. Could someone explain to me how to view the events causing my games to minimize? [link] [comments] |
High total host writes for my almost 2 months old Samsung 850 Evo 250gb Posted: 01 Jan 2018 10:43 PM PST After I learned that my total host writes reach 2.5TB, I disabled all the things that were needed to disable (hibernation, system restore etc). I also transferred the temp files, browser cache, limit page file etc. But still after playing Witcher 3 or just browsing, the total host writes will go up at least 20-30gb. That's just after an 2-3 hours of doing anything. I only have Witcher 3, League of Legends and Path of Exile as my games on SSD. Anything else I need to check? My OS isn't freshly installed, I just clone the ones I'm using before because I don't have a new OS yet.

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 02:14 AM PST Hello, After 7 months of use with no problems, my PC started stuttering, seen here: I've reinstalled Windows a couple of times in the last few weeks and wiped my disks clean and PC is usually fine for a couple of days and then the lag by day and day gradually starts increasing (probably due to downloading and installing new stuff) Defragment and Optimize drives app in Windows actually improved performance last week, so I was pretty sure it was an HDD (it was old and taken out of a server). I replaced HDD and everything was fine for a week. Today, the lag is back. Even Defragment app doesn't help at all. It only starts stuttering when using a mouse. Turning in FPS games and clicking and holding mouse in Rocket League. I've created a log in MSI Afterburner and you can see it here: https://imgur.com/vu4hVNL (everything seems fine) I also tried increasing my voltage and nothing. I have no more ideas, I tried everything, I've been googling all sorts of things for hours in the last few weeks. I'm basically open for any suggestions. I've got nothing out of ordinary: AB350M, Ryzen 5 1600, G.Skill RipJaws 2x8GB DDR4 and GTX 1070. Mouse: G402 wired; I tried others and it's the same. [link] [comments] |
GPU/CPU throttles down when gaming every few minutes Posted: 02 Jan 2018 02:08 AM PST Hello all, I am facing an issue. GPU/CPU throttles down to 10-15% ever few minutes for a couple of seconds. CPU flatlines for few seconds and then fires up again. Gpu acting almost the same (graph will be attached). This happens only playing games (Warframe in this occasion). What i tried to do so far:
link to cpu graph As I said, no change to software/hardware was made. It seems like its a pattern and maybe something is responsible for that. If you know what it might be, please let me know. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 on an HPE Proliant dl120 G9 Posted: 02 Jan 2018 02:04 AM PST Hello Tech support! I'm currently trying to get a New rack server up and running at work (not official Tech myself, just got the task of getting it up). Now, it needs to run Windows 10, but it has been proved hard to get going. If I try to boot my win 10 USB, it just goes black, and then shows the boot menu again, but it freezes. If I try to launch the installer through the HPE intelligent provisioning program, and I get to where I choose the instalation media, but it claims that the Win 10 ISO file I have is not valid. I downloaded it from the MS Media Creation Tool, so it is legit. I did some searching around, but I only find a vague hint that it might not support a regular Client Windows, only Windows server OS. Is this true? And is it any workaround so I can get Win 10 on it? [link] [comments] |
I dont think my laptop is using my graphics card Posted: 02 Jan 2018 02:03 AM PST I have a Samsung Notebook 9 Pro with core i7 and Radeon graphics. It's nothing special but I really don't play heavy games. However, for the few games I do play, I don't think it's using the dedicated graphics card. I have the profiles set up in the Radeon settings, but on Steams system information, there's no sign of the Radeon card, only the integrated Intel graphics. I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have to run Insurgency on low settings. On Mobile Tech Reviews review of the laptop, she played Bioshock on High. How can I make sure my games are using the graphics card? Yes, I'm on performance battery mode. [link] [comments] |
