Baidu Can't Be Removed From Microsoft Edge Posted: 04 Jan 2018 09:26 PM PST Hey guys, I opened Microsoft Edge for the first time in a couple months today and was greeted by a baidu home page and a new tab page in chinese. I followed the Official Malware Removal Guide (rkill, malwarebytes, adwcleaner, hitmanpro), repaired and reset Microsoft Edge, restarted my computer, set computer language to English only, but the issue is still there. I tried looking online about it but all the solutions are to use malwarebytes. I can't remove baidu as a search option, nor can I change the new tab page language back to english. Here are screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/YuCuO And here you can see baidu.com cannot be removed: https://i.imgur.com/4okxYi5.png I never changed any of my settings to chinese. Nothing is popping up on malware removal programs. I'm sorry if this is just an update with microsoft edge and I'm just panicking for no reason. Thank you for your guys' help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 11:02 PM PST I'm gonna be honest here this is new ground for me, I've been trying to research how to do this on my own and at this point I'm just stumped and can't find any real concrete answers online so if anyone could help I'd appreciate it a lot. I've contacted TWC (Spectrum) twice and neither tech could help me with this issue, right now I'm using my router's 6to4 tunneling option since I can't use a static ipv6 address (I've even tried directly connecting to my modem to see if it has one) and at this point I'm not even sure if this issue is worth pursuing further since everything I've read about ipv6 has been vague and nebulous at best. The only concrete positive I've found is that ipv6 has no need for NAT since you have a unique address and there's no need for it. All of this rambling and I just have two questions: Is 6to4 tunneling an adequate replacement for an actual ipv6 address? And if not, how do I force my ISP to give me one, if I can? My modem is a tp-link TC7650 and my router is a tp-link archer C9. I'm running a PC on Windows 10 build 16299.192 if that helps [link] [comments] |
Log if network loses internet connection? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 11:53 PM PST Apparently GlassWire can do this, but it's only available if you buy the product, and it's $40. Not willing to pay that price for a 1 time usage. I just want to diagnose my network. Not sure if my router is having connection issues, or if my ISP is having connection issues. I'd like to monitor my network for a couple days to see. I also have a Raspberry Pi if there's anything I could run on it to detect/log a network drop. I have setup IFTTT on my phone, but as far as I know it only logs if your device has been completely disconnected from the SSID, NOT if you just lose internet connection. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 04:17 PM PST I have a graphics card that is capable of creating a custom resolution. The TV is huge and watchable but a big portion of the screen is black.(1/3 of the right hand side is a black bar) I want to change the horizontal resolution of the screen to get the black bar out of the viewing area. Will this damage the TV or my video card? I have the TV hooked up via HD cable. I don't plan on changing any of the other setting such has refresh rate. Thanks for you time [link] [comments] |
How do I make a smartphone app for a smart LED bulb? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:11 AM PST I'm trying to start a business with two friends where we are aiming to make smart lamps. We are looking at LED bulbs to go into the lamp shades we have designed and want to connect them to our own branded app that we will develop. Does anyone know a way that we can connect a smart bulb to our own app as most of the lights we have seen on the internet already come with their own specific app. If this can be done, does anyone know any smart light bulbs that fit this description? Also, if this cannot be done, for those smart light bulbs we have seen that come with an app, is there a way to 'reprogram' these to work with our app? We would really appreciate any help. We are new to this and would be great if anyone could explain in layman terms. [link] [comments] |
Chrome taking ages to load specific web pages. Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:03 AM PST So I'm having slight issues with Chrome. Recently it seems to take a while to load a specific website that I use frequently. I have run malwarebytes and a Kaspersky scan and nothing has shown up, I've also run CCleaner and tried resetting my Chrome. The same website loads instantly in Edge but I'm pretty heavily integrated into the whole Google experience so I'd rather keep using Chrome. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
My carrier has been "accidentally" giving me free 50GB of free data the past 4 months Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:01 AM PST I have a prepaid SIM, and for some reason there's always 50GB of data, even though I haven't paid for it. And whenever I consume it, another 50 is in my account. I'm not really complaining, I love having free data but I find it really weird. I got used to having the free data that I'm now afraid to ask my carrier about it and have myself noticed and lose my free data lol It's been 4 months and I think so far I've consumed more than 500GB in free data. Has this happened to anyone before? BTW: I use an iPhone, 100% sure this isn't a hack. Because I know some android users can tweak the system and get free data. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 04:17 AM PST Title. This problem started yesterday. I figured that if i just turned off my PC and went to bed, it would've been fixed by next morning. That is unfortunately not the case, my PC is still slowed down to a crawl. Here are some screenshots of my processes and performance from task manager (as for why i blurred out my antivirus: i don't want people to know which one i have so they can attack my PC based on that knowledge. Not sure if that is actually the case but i'm not taking risks), i hope that helps. If more information is required i will gladly provide it. [link] [comments] |

W10 | Fix for wrong time setting (even though the time zone is correct) Posted: 04 Jan 2018 10:05 PM PST So I have a fresh copy of W10 and everything was fine except the time was wrong even though I have selected the correct time zone. Internet sync did not work for me.
I have updated group policies, ensured w32tm settings are correct in regedit and services.msc, ran w32tm commands with stop/start/resync/rediscover etc. to no avail. Then I came across http://swimminginthought.com/windows-10-ntp-stopped-working-figure-fix/
Now everything is correct. Can someone ELI5 what the command chain does? [link] [comments] |
Boot issue when booting Laptop Posted: 04 Jan 2018 10:04 PM PST I have this Gateway Laptop installed with Windows 7 (not sure of the model) I said I would fix for someone. At first I was getting a blue screen that says Recovery and has the error message Your PC/Device needs to be repaired. The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors. File:\Boot\BCD Error code: 0xc00014c Then after it says i need a recovery disk blah blah blah. We couldn't find the original disk that the laptop came with so we ordered a recovery through Acer Gateway which just came in today. I booted up the laptop to make sure the error was still the same (which it was) and now I get a beep every few seconds which never happened before. It will reboot itself endlessly and beep endlessly until i power it off. It's not the usual beep you would get for RAM because the pc can boot up to that windows error screen. So i have no idea what the beep is for. Also, I was about to run the recovery disks when i ran into an issue. When I get to the boot menu to boot from the disk, CDROM does not show up as a sequence. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do, I'm pretty stumped if I cant get boot from CDROM. [link] [comments] |
Intermittent Ethernet connection Posted: 04 Jan 2018 10:01 PM PST Hello! I've recently had a consistent problem with my PC, which is primarily/only wired through an Ethernet connection. For the past month or so (and this problem has occurred before mysteriously resolving itself) I've had this issue where my Ethernet connection flags the red x, then a second later shows the yellow icon, then stabilizes itself. I figured it was my ISP, but after this happening repeatedly, I decided to try and diagnose it. Often people say drivers, and after trying three different drivers out the problem still happens. I've cross checked it by running a twitch stream on my laptop (both wired and wirelessly) and the laptop connection stay smooth as this connection cuts in and out. How can I properly diagnose this problem? My mobo is a ASRock Z170 gaming k4, Ethernet is Killer E2400, and I'm on Windows 10 (pre 1709 update, because that's bugged for me). I noticed this problem always rears its head around the time of a big windows update, so I'm assuming it's a driver issue. Or at the worst, an adapter/hardware issue. [link] [comments] |
Any way to undelete accidentally deleted files on a mac? Posted: 04 Jan 2018 10:00 PM PST So I googled several apps that could recover files (Easeus etc) but it says load image, and there isn't any image to load. I decrypted the hard drive, that didn't help either. I don't want to get professional help (money is an issue). Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

WTF is the Monster in the corner of my screen?! Posted: 04 Jan 2018 11:21 AM PST I noticed this little monster in the bottom left corner of my MacbookPro screen today, and I thought it might be some Black Mirror shit and I freaked the fuck out. It it super tiny, black and white, and looks kind of like a PacMan monster. I ran Disk Utility and it disappeared. Has anyone seen anything like this before? What is it, and has my cybersecurity been compromised? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Jan 2018 11:50 PM PST Asus Prime z370-p I7 8700k Corsair H60 Water cooler Ballistics 16GB Ram I bought the following parts for upgrading my old trusty freind, and put it toghether and booted ut. It starts nicely, but when I entered BIOS to set up the boot order, i noticed the temp rising from 30c til to 75c and still going up. I turned off the computer and started looking at the H60. I cant see anything wrong, and I have tried moving the 3pin and 4 pin around on the different CPU or CHA-fan pins, but the result is the same. Rising temps to over 75 on idle. And also a CPU FAN Error all the time. I tried turning the fan on the H60, thinking it might work better blowing into the grill, but that didn't help. I tried switching around the settings on Q-Fan in BIOS, but nothing helped on the temps. I am at a complete loss over what could be wrong, and I would really appreciate any help you can give me. My PC takes a while to open pages right after I boot Posted: 04 Jan 2018 06:48 PM PST Okay, so I know this may sound like a really whiny complaint, but I started noticing that right after I turn on my PC, when I open Chrome it takes a good while to open the webpages. I have a relatively new Ryzen build, so I'm not really sure what's going on. I go to any page and it keeps loading and loading, sometimes I get a pop up saying the page stopped responding. The only way for it to work is to either just wait two or three minutes or close the browser at least three times before it starts working like it usually does. Any ideas what could it be? Other than reinstalling Windows 10 or something like that. [link] [comments] |
Very high ping on all network devices to WAN ips Posted: 05 Jan 2018 03:29 AM PST So this started this morning, every single device in my house is having very high ping, in the neighborhood of 1.5 - 2.5 SECONDS!!! Web page browsing is like dial up. I've tried rebooting my routers and modem and nothing has gotten better. The symptoms even persist on a laptop plugged directly into our cable modem. Do I need to call my ISP? Because I think I'd rather burn down the building. [link] [comments] |
Any way (or program) to lower mouse sensitivity further than normal? Posted: 05 Jan 2018 03:22 AM PST On my Windows it's already on the lowest, the mouse DPI is on the lowest, but I want to have it much lower.
