Am I crazy or has it gotten harder to "flick" the lock screen up?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 03:05 PM PST

I feel like recently I need to drag the lock screen all the way up while previously I could easily flick it and the phone would unlock. It's driving me nuts.

On which cheap-ish phone is the Google camera HDR port working the best?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 01:50 PM PST

I'm currently using a port of the Google camera app on my Mi Max (SD 650) and the quality is miles better than other camera apps. However it crashes every other photo which means that I risk losing memories that I captured (as photos doesn't save if the app crashes). It's also quite slow to process each photo.

I have been looking at some other cheaper phones with SD8xx. On most of them the Google camera should work well. But on which one does it really work without crashing and with quick processing? To fix through XDA threads for each phone is quite tiring.

How do I make my device "forget" about a game?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 05:39 PM PST

In this case, the game is called "Hustle Castle", the game seems to not be attached to any Google Play account, but to the device itself... I've tried different Google Play account, but it leads to the same save file... That save file could be anywhere hidden

I'm asking you on how to make my device "forget" about this game, so I can start a new fresh game.

To make it simple, I'll make an example:

Device 1 has game data from Game 1, Game 1 seems to remember Device 1 by the device itself, not by accounts.

My goal: Game 1 can start anew on Device 1, as if Device 1 has never played the game.

    Thank you for answering! :)

How do I get rid of all Album Cover Data on Samsung Music?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 03:32 PM PST

I plugged in my phone to my PC and I started browsing files for anything related to Album art and no luck. Most of the tracks I have (mp3 files) have the same album cover and it's clearly not supposed to happen. I have the current version of Samsung Music and a Galaxy S5.

    Adding music to my android

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 12:20 PM PST

Big Apple guy. IPhone broke and iPod broke. One of the reasons I made a switch to an android is because of the expandable memory. I got a 128 gig sd card and was ready to add my large music library to my phone (18000+tracks) anyways I try and copy and paste my iTunes library and it'll work for most songs but eventually hit a file that it says it can not copy and stop. Is there anyway to skip these tracks so it'll upload the rest of the files or anyway I can fix these files? Everything plays fine in iTunes and it's annoying I can upload a coupl3 hundred songs before it stops on certain files.

Why is cell phone asking for me to give permissions to contacts?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 12:50 PM PST

So I just got a new Moto g5 plus. I'm searching through my contacts and everytime I click on a contact, it's asking me these 3 questions below. If I'm reading this right, it wants me to allow the contacts to access my own calendar and such? Is that normal? How do I avoid getting asked these questions repeatedly for each contact?

    1. Allow Contact to access your calendar?
    2. Allow contacts to send and view SMS messages?
    3. There's one more question but it's not asking me it now because I told it not ask me again

Do people still send SMS texts? (Why is Textra so popular for example)

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 03:59 AM PST

Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question, but lately I've been on a hunt for the best paid apps and one of them that's mentioned often is Textra.

The thing is that I can't recall the last time I sent an SMS message to someone, but perhaps this is because everyone in my country (NL) is using WhatsApp as the primary form of communication.

Am I missing a significant benefits (besides looks) that apps like Textra has to offer?

Need help editing host file for new year's resolution

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 09:22 PM PST

    Hi all,

I got a motor z2 play recently because my old phone, an LG g4, broke.

I had rooted my old phone in order to edit the host file and block certain sites for me that kill my productivity. All my computers and other devices are locked down like this since sadly I can't be productive otherwise. Now that I have a new phone the floodgates are unleashed and I'm surfing the web all the time and I think it's affecting my productivity.

Unfortunately phones are so frustratingly locked down compared to computers and it feels like I have to jump through hoops just to add a few lines of text to my host file. When I got my g4 I was in uni and more tech savvy I guess and I'm not finding it difficult to find the appropriate resources online.

So far I've unlocked my bootloader (may have been a mistake as voided my warranty but too late) and now I believe I need to root my phone by flashing a costum rom? I don't want to do anything special at all except getting super user access to edit my host file. After that ideally I'd unroot and lose the ability to even undo my changes.

Can you please help me? I really appreciate any help at all.

How do you calibrate the battery on your device?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 08:52 PM PST

I did some research on how to prolong the battery life of my smartphone and the experts recommend performing short, shallow discharges instead of discharging to 0% and charging to full again. They also say that the sweet spot should be around 40%-80%.

However, this generates an effect called "digital memory", wherein the software's calibration malfunctions. This is why some people's phones randomly turn off even if it says 15% left. Because of this, they recommend to fully discharge your phone and charge it to full every 3 months.

Bu fully discharging, does it mean to let your phone die, turn it on again, and repeat the process until the phone won't turn on again? Wouldn't that hurt the battery's health? Or should I just let it turn off once it reaches 0% and charge until it reaches 100%?

    [Help] Android Notifications not appearing

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 07:06 PM PST

Hi, I'm a new Android user as of yesterday, made the switch from iPhone finally. One of the most glaring things I've noticed is that I do not seem to have any notifications popping up on app icons (such as apple indicating how many Snapchat messages I've received) or on the lock screen (such as displaying text messages). I technically do receive notifications because they appear in the upper notification menu (swiping down from top of screen), but that's the only place they appear. I'd like to have them appear on the app icon themselves, or at least on the lock screen so I can see what apps I need to check.

    Thanks!

Will Google Pixel 2 XL work in Hong Kong?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 06:34 PM PST

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently living in HK and am looking to get the Google Pixel 2 XL. The only thing that is keeping me from buying the phone is the fact that the Pixel phones have never been released here in Hong Kong (for reasons I'm not too sure of), but everything that I used for work is based off of the Google platform (Gmail, Drive, etc). I'm just wondering if I buy the phone from overseas if it will work in Hong Kong.

Need some help with getting a Galaxy Tab 2 onto a new ROM w/ root

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 02:35 PM PST

I'll get straight to the point.

I'm not new to rooting or flashing etc. However, with an older tablet like this I'm a bit lost and in need of some guidance.

It's on 4.2.2 with no root or CWM. I want TWRP on it, root and a newer Android version, preferably a lightweight ROM so that it'll run less sluggish.

From what I understand, I need to get CWM on it in order to install TWRP. The ones I've found though are listed for 4.0.4. So how do I proceed here? Can I safely run the same one, or am I screwed?

Edit: I take it this should work. However the files are no longer available. Any advice?

Anything I can do with sideloading files?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 02:29 PM PST

I'm looking to update my Android 4.1 (JellyBean) tablet or install another newer android replacement (like Lineage OS) over top of the stock Android it comes with.

Unfortunately, my device, Supersonic SC-97JB, is so obscure it's practically non-existent. I've been unable to get TWRP or CWM working because neither support my device. I've rooted my tablet but I don't know what to do after that. I can get into recovery mode, and have the capability to sideload stuff with adb (although don't know how this works), but that's about it. Is it possible to do anything useful with this piece of junk?

fastboot devices never returns any connected devices, and adb devices only returns my device when it's in recovery mode, but never any other time. adb reboot-bootloader just reboots my device and doesn't let me into the bootloader.

If anyone has any suggestions or insight for me I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    Netflix Background Usage question

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 12:15 PM PST

    Hello r/AndroidQuestions,

I've started getting 'Netflix is running in the background' notification on my phone (8.1) while watching Netflix on my Roku. The Netflix app is not even in my 'Recents' app list.

I've read that I can disable the notification on 8.1, but that's irrelevant. Does anyone know exactly what Netflix is doing on my phone while watching elsewhere?

I've thought it could be syncing current playback data, but still seems odd to do that randomly.

You can do a lot of cool stuff with Google Assistant, but can you close it?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 06:10 PM PST

Currently driving and finding my way with navigation through Google Maps, you ask "Hey Google, what's the temperature in Washington DC?".. Google gives you the answer you want within 2 seconds. Awesome. Now, why can't I just say "thanks Google" and it goes away and start showing my navigation again? Am I missing something? Can this be achieved?

Open WiFi appears to be causing mobile network to drop

    Posted: 30 Dec 2017 02:00 PM PST

As of yesterday I'm having a very strange issue. At the local coffee shop that I'm at to do work which normally has not given me any issue, suddenly my LTE on my pixel 2 stopped working. SMS and the internet were unresponsive.

The network would cycle between no service, 3G, H, and periodically work for a moment, then die again. Last night and today I noticed when I left and was away from this location, LTE resumes normally.

Another strange symptom is if I enable WiFi, everything goes back to normal. Anyone experienced this before?
