Touchpad dead after installing Precision drivers Posted: 26 Nov 2017 12:07 PM PST Hey, I have installed the precision touchpad drivers on my HP Spectre x360 (15-BL108CA), but after updating them (with searching the internet for update) the pad was basically dead, it only registered right clicks anymore (also when clicking the left side). I have already tried uninstalling the device/drivers, installing the synaptic drivers from the HP website, installing the precision drivers again and so on. After uninstalling the device, the touchpad worked, but only movement, no gestures, and it was shown as PS/2 mouse in device manager. Does anyone know what else I can try to revive my touchpad? Store, Calculator and Photos running in the background for no reason? Posted: 26 Nov 2017 04:01 AM PST Hey all. Since the Fall Update the Store app, Calculator app and Photos app is running in the background even though if I haven't launched them. They're disabled in "Let these app run in the background", in fact, every app is disabled there. I don't know what triggers the apps because sometimes they're in the task manager and then I shut them down and they can be back later or not. I've launched a game, tabbed down and they haven't launched. Same when I launched Chrome. Any help with this is really appreciated. [link] [comments]

windows process manager (32 bit...) Posted: 26 Nov 2017 07:03 PM PST Dear all, I really need your help because I have an interview tomorrow, and my laptop has a problem. I can't really track when it started or which program caused it, but I think I downloaded a program from the Internet, and one of its ads programs was troubling( I am not sure). I tried to uninstall some of my currently installed programs, but it did not help. The problem is suddenly several windows process manager ( 32 bit...) along with several service local host were eating all of my memory( 70-90%) and disk( most of the time 100%). Service local host would time to time do this, but it was rather temporary, and I never saw windows process manager. I even got blue screen 2 times. It has been two days that my windows 8.1 laptop works like this: I turn it on, it works rather fine at first( memory is about 50-70%, but still disc fluctuate between 0-100%), and it will rather slowly goes toward memory more than 95% and disc 100%, and windows do not work at all until I restart it, and the loop of DEATH will start again. I thought that is a virus, so I tried some free antivirus, but they did not work. Indeed, the number windows process manager dropped after using these free antivirus, but there one or two now and then in task manager, and some new memory eaters came( including antiviruses themselves!!!!). Then I bought Eset nod32 account, and it says that your computer is not at maximum protection, but when I run smart scan for computer in the middle of the way ( 68% of scan) the loop of DEATH is over, and it won't work, and I should restart and can again from start and again and again... What should I do? Another problem which I mentioned was that Ashampoo anti-virus eats so much of my memory and disc, too. I can't uninstall it from the control panel, or from its uninstall.exe, or even from another program named Ashampoo uninstaller!!!. So I used Microsoft uninstaller, but the program was not in the list, and I should found its product code which I don't know how. I just found there is some software which would do that is not free. Is there any other way? Best [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Nov 2017 06:18 PM PST Is there anyway to get the windows 10 list of VPN's in the network locations menu to be in alphabetical order. Its unbelievably annoying not to mention after the update to 1709 it takes a solid 10 seconds just for the menu to load (from instant prior to update). thanks in advance for any help. windows versions that cater to low end hardware? Posted: 26 Nov 2017 01:35 PM PST Is windows XP still viable to run? Does mozilla/google/IE still support it from a web browsing perspective? What do you lose by still running XP? I'm considering starting a business refurbishing laptops and I'm trying to gauge whether I should consider any versions of windows or go with low-end linux installations for Operating Systems on old laptops (IE: 1gb ram or less, with weak processors and slow hard drives) Personally I think going with some of these low overhead linux installations makes the most sense, but I think people are generally more familiar with windows and might be turned off by hearing the word 'linux' I'm also curious about running 32 or 64 bit versions of windows and in the scheme of things, does windows 7 still have a place? I kind of feel like I'm either gonna be running something obsolete (In which case I'd use XP) or something somewhat modern (In which case I'd use win 10) I'm guessing 32 bit or 64 bit would just be an issue of RAM - in general I am gonna say that if they have 2+GB of RAM, run 64 bit, otherwise run 32 bit. I know the cut-off is 4GB but I've heard that performance and compatibility is much better with 64 bit if you have enough RAM to run it, and 2GB seems to be the minimum to run it decently. Posted: 26 Nov 2017 10:25 AM PST My copy of windows 7 is possessed. I have an actual product key and even entering that won't make the dreaded message go away. I just get an error message every time. I've tried the following methods: SLMGR -REARM (too many attempts) Uninstalling update KB971033 (it won't let me/it does not appear in the list of updates to uninstall even though it appears in the list of updates I've downloaded and yes, automatic updates are off and have been for quite some time.) Going into security settings and choosing automatic for boot settings under plug and play. I can see the option to do so, but it won't let me click it. Downloading RemoveWAT hasn't worked either. Or at least it won't let me install it (yes, I turned off my antivirus). I can extract the .exe file but once I start the installation process, it locks up my computer and nothing progresses even after waiting nearly an hour... it's 1.7MB, and it should install immediately. Once the computer freezes, task manager won't even let me do anything. I try to shut it down from the ctrl+alt+del menu and it just says "shutting down" forever. So far, I've had to manually power down my computer in order to restart and try again. I made sure to download the program from the actual website and all my research says it's legit. My PC is in otherwise excellent shape and should have NO problems executing the simple task of installing some minor software. What in the hell is going on? What am I doing wrong? What is a good alternative to MacOS Spotlight on Windows? Or am I using Explorer wrong? Posted: 26 Nov 2017 03:42 PM PST Hello, I just switched from a Macbook Pro to a Thinkpad X260 running Windows 10 pro. I like Windows 10 so far but one thing I can't seem to grab. Or I think I may be doing it wrong. Namely searching for files, I simply can't seem to do it efficiently. In Spotlight on a Mac you can just type in words from a file e.g. "Once upon a time" and it will instantly give you a list of files matching it with it "Childrens book1", "Tales of ZZ" etc with preview when hovering over the file. But in Explorer it seems to take a long time to search the drives even with an SSD and the results aren't that accurate. It seems more often than not it will simply not find anything, or the list will be filled with everything but the documents you want to find (DLLs in list - wtf??). I guess it's just a matter of how these file explorers work. But Spotlight is now really the only think I absolutely miss from MacOS. It's of course absolutely possible I'm just using it wrong and haven't used it properly. Anyone can relate and have any solutions? [link] [comments]
Help with reinstalling windows 7 on a home built gaming rig Posted: 26 Nov 2017 09:43 AM PST Hi guys. Thanks in advance for your insight. I built a gaming rig a few years ago. It is time to format it and reinstall windows 7. I need a complete checklist, please. I don't want to miss anything. I don't remember all the specs anymore but I can open it up or use an app to scan the guts. Also, if you have some tricks of the trade, I would gladly like to hear it. Thanks again! Posted: 26 Nov 2017 02:33 AM PST Hey guys, I have a laptop with a type c 3.1 usb port and a ssd drive that's way better than the one that's on the laptop. I presently don't have the tools to open the laptop but I have a SATA3 to USB type-c dongle. Can I install windows on said external drive (with windows to usb for example) and then swap this ssd with the internal one when I go home and have access to the necessary tools to open the machine? My goal is to setup my work environment on the external sdd and then making it my internal ssd later on. Can this be done without problem? Thanks for the help! [link] [comments]
Anyone have a notetaking app that can fulfill these requirements? Posted: 25 Nov 2017 09:04 PM PST Hello, I don't feel like I am asking for much, but apparently I am. This is what I want in a notetaking app.
I only need a windows app, I am perfectly fine with no cross platforms. I don't feel like I am asking for something that is huge, and I don't think I am the only one who wants this. Anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments] |
