MSI won't honor my warranty because they claim this is water damage Posted: 29 Nov 2017 06:24 PM PST I recently had an issue where the keyboard on my MSI laptop stopped working. Fortunatly, it had one more week where it was under warranty, so I packed it up and shipped it off to them. I got an email today saying that they were not going to cover it because it had water damage. They sent this picture. I have not spilled any liquid on this laptop. The only thing I can think is that it was pretty humid when the laptop failed, but it seems like a laptop should be able to handle normal humidity. Is this water damage? Is there anything I can say to them to get them to cover this (as this feels like a cop out)? Are there any other options? [link] [comments] |

A Visual Guide to my Computer dying Posted: 29 Nov 2017 08:04 PM PST Ive included my problems in an imgur album, i took screenshots along the way as over the course of a day my computer turned into a practically unusable mess. https://imgur.com/a/kS6DG Im thinking that either my Ethernet connection is corrupted somehow, my power supply(which is 6 years old) blew and is giving me dirty power or maybe fried my motherboard motherboard (we had a pretty windy storm while my computer was on, but no power surges/outages that I know of) One thing i couldn't get pictures of was the graphical glitches I was getting while using integrated graphics, my screen would intermittently go black and sometimes the entire screen would "shake" up and down rapidly until the screen went black again and the image would go back to normal. When i started up memtest my screen started flashing much more than before and I saw white flecks (a bit like static on a slightly worn VHS tape) but then the screen went black for about 30 seconds and now it seems fine. SPECS: Motherboard: MSI Z170A Gaming M5 CPU: Intel i5 6600k GPU: MSI Gtx 970 PSU: Thermaltake TR2 RX 650W RAM: EVGA 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 @ 3200 MHZ (I also disabled XMP after the problems started so theyre running at stock speeds now) SSD: Kingston 240GB Ive tried reinstalling windows and downloading the drivers/programs onto a USB stick and then running the installers on this computer, but i get the same errors every time. Games Crashing after a few minutes new build Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:39 AM PST So i recently built a new gaming pc and ive been having issues with games crashing a few minutes into them and i cant figure it out for the life of me Everything runs fine i can use the pc for hours with no problems only seems to be having issues when i start a game up Thought it might be a dead card so i tried a buddies gtx 1060 and same thing games crash after a few minutes Ive completely wiped and reinstalled windows/drivers twice now with no luck Temperatures seem fine cpu is at 25C idle and around 30-35C under load, Gfx card 37C idle and around 60-70C under load Im out of ideas and would rather not bring it to a computer repair shop as there are no reputable ones around me and ill be off for vacation in a week PC-Specs Cpu- Ryzen 7 1800x Cpu cooler- corsair h100i v2 Mobo- ASrock X370 Taichi Ram- G.skill trident z rgb (2x8gb) 3200mhz GFX card- EVGA geforce gtx 1080ti FTW3 PSU- EVGA 850W G2 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:18 AM PST Hello guys. I have pretty big problem with my notebook screen. As you can see in video, my left and right third of the screen are having problem with screening image. This only happens to my notebook screen - when I connect external screen everything is fine. This problem can be temporary "fixed" by adjusting screen angle. But this is not a solution since only a little bit of movement will bring problems back. Right now I can not take my notebook to the repair shop since I need my notebook everyday because of school. I am also pretty scared to open my notebook on my own because I do not want to screw up even more. I am pretty bad with HW but since this does not happen on external screen I assume that either cable in notebook is damaged or my screen is dying and needs to be changed. Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Can this be fixed easily at home? Disabled apple inbuilt mic on my laptop. And now it only uses laptop mic. I need to do the opposite. Posted: 30 Nov 2017 03:41 AM PST Hello, I have scoured the internet for help on this topic. And i have no found any solutions. Basically when i plugged in my apple earpiece into my laptop ASUS Aspire VX 15. It's a single jack. When i plug in my the earpiece, it used to just atomically connect the headphone and mic. So it uses both the inbuilt apple mic and the laptop mic. Meaning the "Recording devices" only showed one mic enabled (there was no disabled mic there i checked the option) [link] [comments] |
android.process.media and Play Store crashing constantly? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 03:22 AM PST Model: ST1009 Since I started playing Animal Crossing Pocket Camp (idk if it's linked to the issue), I've been bombarded by messages that android.process.media has stopped (occasionally accompanied by a similar message for Google Play Store, as well as the Store crashing on launch, rendering it utterly unusable), making just writing this post feel like pulling teeth. I already tried force stopping Play Store and Downloads and rebooting multiple times with no success and nothing I've found on Google does me any good. Any assistance in this issue would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |

svchost.exe receiving @ 21mpbs Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:27 AM PST Noticed network performance issues, initially thought it was Apple TV or something along those lines however went to check my network monitor on main PC to find that svchost was doing insane amounts of 'receiving'. Shut off my network adapter immediately and coincidentally the network returned back to normal for all other devices. Installed and did a scan via malwarebytes - result found some .dll's for fromdocpdf, cleaned them all however its still doing crazy high amounts of receiving. Only think I recall doing prior to this happening was install virtualbox with a pfsense image. Didnt even get to fully configure it so not too sure WTH is going on. See attached for snippet of resource manager and task manager- [link] [comments] |
2.4ghz rubberbanding 5ghz all good Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:17 AM PST Hey guys So what I see is same router/modem 2.4ghz band makes all of my games rubberbanding like I am teleporting back so often but when I use 5ghz it is all good. It was rubberbanding on 5ghz and 2.4ghz before so I changed the router with a new replacement one but same model. Apparently it started doing do same thing but only on 2.4ghz band. So is it some router quality thing ? They get defective after a time or something. I hope it is not gonna spread to 5ghz ... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:15 AM PST This has been interfering with my connectivity for some time. Running a ping command generally reports around 40% packet loss. I have an NTT GE-ONU router (all in Japanese) and am connected by CAT6 ethernet to my mobo, a ROG Hero Maximus IX. I use a Japanese ISP called DTI which provides my connection in conjunction with FLETS East. I have a home fiber optic connection. I have tried many things; as far as I can tell, all the network settings on the router and my PC are set to default. My router networking info (default gateway, DNS, etc.) seems to be as it should be. I have run the following commands without success: flush dns; ip release; ip renew; sfc scan; I have run rkill and found nothing. I have swapped out ethernet cables without success. I have spoken to my ISP and they insist it's on my end. I have checked and rechecked all connections/cables. If I remove the router and directly connect to the modem, I can't dial in and get connected using my ISP-provided username/password--it returns a 720 error. When I connect through the router I get internet access, but with the ~40% packet loss. This makes connecting to servers of any kind hell; webpages need to be refreshed repeatedly, online games and VOIP services fail to connect repeatedly, so on and so forth. I am on the verge of performing a clean windows install; if that fails to correct the issue I will begin to suspect the mobo integrity. Are there any suggestions to resolve this issue? Windows 10 reboots every 3 hours. Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:14 AM PST So recently I've discovered that my PC reboot every 3 hours or so. This has happened since I updated Gom player and set it as the default player. Could it be the cause? Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Nov 2017 03:38 PM PST Hey guys, I️ have a MSI 970 gaming motherboard and whilst looking around and cleaning I️ noticed a lot of dust "stuck" to this one place. I️ look closer and there seems to be some liquid or something that dropped onto the board. It's only on that one spot and I'm not sure what it is. The boards been fine and I'm not sure how long it was there. Just want to know what to do thanks! [link] [comments] |
I cannot connect to youtube or facebook with ethernet Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:08 AM PST If I disconnect my ethernet and use wifi I can connect to youtube and facebook no problem. While using my ethernet cable I cannot connect to youtube or facebook but everything else works. The error messages I'm getting are "this site can't be reached. www.youtube.com unexpectedly closed the connection.". I tried using different ethernet cables but that didn't solve the problem. I also tried changing my DNS options but that doesn't work either. [link] [comments] |
GPU running hotter in a build with new motherboard/cpu/case Posted: 30 Nov 2017 01:52 AM PST Hey, I upgraded my computer. Went from an old i5-4590 and MOBO to an i7-7700k and MSI z270-A PRO. I reused my old XFX RX 480 8gb. I've been monitoring the CPU (No overclocking yet) and everything looks good but when I noticed I boot up overwatch the GPU temp is spiking to 80-88c. Previously in my old build it never rose past 70. I'm a little worried about these tempatures since I've never seen it go that high before. I checked all the fans in the case are working and the CPU is not even breaking past 50c. I updated drivers but do not see any improvement. Please note I did not do a clean install of windows, i plugged everything in and everything booted normally. [link] [comments] |
Weird cloud suddenly appeared behind glass on monitor Posted: 29 Nov 2017 07:49 PM PST Was using my computer. Turned around for a minute or so then turned back around to notice what looks like a massive condensation cloud behind the glass on my monitor. Any ideas what this could be and how to fix it? Laptop plugged in, but battery stays at 0% Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:54 AM PST hey reddit, i have an ASUS N552VX and i haven't had it for a long while (almost a year now) but the battery gave up on me too early.... i read online that its fine to leave your laptop plugged in even at 100%, i'm used to taking the battery out and using the laptop but this specific model doesn't have a detachable battery. Is there anything i can do other than buy a new battery? Thank you for your time. [link] [comments] |
New gpu, no display or BIOS beeping Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:53 AM PST So I got a new gpu today, upgraded from an r9 290x to a gtx 1080 and while the computer turns on, all the fans spin including the gpu fabs, there are no bios beeps or display signal. I uninstalled the old drivers beforehand, installed the new card and even trying with the old card I'm not getting anything. Specs: Ryzen 1700 Gtx 1080 Mobo: asus prime b350m-a [link] [comments] |
Can't get pressure on pen to work in apps like Photoshop Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:52 AM PST I have a Fujitsu t726, which I assumed didn't have any pressure based features when I bought it, but i noticed in Onenote, it is definitely detects how hard i'm pressing. This feature does not work in apps like Photoshop or Krita. I've tried installing all drivers and reinstalling. How can this feature work in some apps and not others, or am I missing something? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:50 AM PST I currently have headphones and speakers that im trying to use for my PC but the sound driver refuses to show up on playback devices when plugged in https://i.imgur.com/tk8c8eG.png. I tried downloading Realtek HD audio drivers from both the website and the disk it came with the motherboard but it never did anything and still doesn't show up on playback devices or even in the device manager. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the motherboard chipset but that also did not do anything to make the sounds pop up on playback devices. Motherboard being used is a MSI B350M Gaming Pro with a AMD Ryzen 5 1600. [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 is completely freezing at random intervals, no blue screen Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:41 AM PST Hello! Ever since the latest feature update for Windows 10, I've been experiencing periodic freezes that force me to completely turn off my machine and reboot it. Listed below are the specs for my machine: OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299 System Type x64-based PC Processor AMD FX(tm)-8300 Eight-Core Processor, 3300 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB DDR3 Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB When the crashes have happened has been variable; in one instance, upon loading Google Chrome and trying to access a website, the computer froze. It has crashed in the middle of running some gaming applications like Overwatch, but weirdly seems to crash more often when trying to boot Overwatch as well. Troubleshooting steps taken: Used Blizzard's Repair option to fix Overwatch (but the crashes still continued after, so the below steps were taken) Updated graphics drivers to latest version Double-checked virtual memory to make sure it is at a desired level Used rkill and Malwarebytes to check for any malware (no malicious software was detected) It'd be nice if my machine would give me the courtesy of giving me a blue screen so I can get an error code, but unfortunately that hasn't happened yet. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
