Is Titanium Backup still the best backup manager? Android Apps

Is Titanium Backup still the best backup manager?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 06:19 AM PST

Titanium Backup is meant to restore data on the same ROM on which the backup was created. Due to system file discrepancies among different ROMs, restoring apps and data this way might make the phone laggy and slow. After years of dominance is still the best choice for the advanced user?

Looking for photo editor with good denoise.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 08:52 AM PST

I have searched high and low for a photo editor that allows independent control of chrominance and luminance noise. Many have a single denoise control, if any, which is not sufficient for my purposes. Those that do have the controls I am looking for annoyingly either do not allow you to zoom in on your image enough to properly see the effects (Photoshop Express, Fotor), or require you to buy a relatively expensive add-on to do it (Polarr). Can anyone point me to an editor that has the features I seek for free/cheap?

Does anyone else wish you could hide the dock in Microsoft Launcher?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 12:04 AM PST

Microsoft Launcher has turned me, a 3 year plus Nova user, into a devout follower. They're feed is extremely thorough and useful, and the recent apps page eliminates the need for a drawer. I love the look of the search screen, I love the daily wallpapers , I love a lot about it. However, the primary screen on my home screen needs to be entirely mine. While they've been making great strides in increasing the customizability there's still a few things they could add. Primarily, I would LOVE if I could disable the dock. Sometimes I want a dock, sometimes I don't. And the option to remove it would put this Launcher in a special place in my heart. Does anyone else agree with me on this ?

    Podcatchers devouring storage space?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 10:15 AM PST

I'm looking for help with my podcast apps. I used AntennaPod for about a year and liked it quite a bit, but it's storage consumption on my phone (even when it's obstensibly stored on the SD card) balloons so quickly. Last I cleared it's data it was up to 1.5gb, and then I had to re-subscribed to all my podcasts again... a bit of a chore.

I tried used CastBox and it's exhibiting the same behaviour. What can I do, if anything, to prevent this? The apps are installed on the SD card and are set to download the shows to the card as well, but they just keep eating into my device storage (which is pretty limited). Am I missing something? Do I have to keep clearing the data and re-subscribing, or are there apps that don't have this issue I should try?

Thanks for any help, this has been very frustrating and all I can find via searches are help with Apple products.

    A different type of launcher?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2017 08:57 PM PST

We all know about Nova, Smart Launcher and Action Launcher. All basically the same thing with some variations in how things are handled, but at the end of the day it's still just icons on a wallpaper.

I remember back in 2009ish my buddy showed me a launcher that was a si for scrolling page with collapsible sections. Can't remember it's name and I'm sure it's long dead at this point.

So, are there any launchers out there that give a different feeling than the usual 'icons on wallpaper' type?

    Looking for audio management app

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 08:46 AM PST

I need something like Transcribe(for PC) for Android, I've been looking around but the only good ones seem to be for iOS. I need it to at least be able to slow down audio files without changing the pitch and to show the sound waves so I can accurately pause and play where I need to.

    App to share phone calls?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 08:42 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

My family owns a small motel and we are losing the person who typically takes our reservations over the phone. The rest of my family who are able to take reservations are only available at differing times of day. I am wondering if anyone knows of some sort of app, service or program where we could all share a phone number and whoever answers the phone call first will get the person who called?

If this isn't possible or available, does anyone have any ideas as to another solution? Thanks in advance!

What do you use for syncing music playlists? I'm looking for an easy way to manage and sync playlists from Windows to Android.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 08:29 AM PST

I'm currently using an iPhone, but I'd honestly rather be using Android. I use my phone primarily for music, and that's the hurdle I'm faced with now.

I've spent 100's of hours researching methods to take the pain away from managing my large music library and easily syncing it to my phone. The reason I'm currently using iPhone is because iTunes gives me the work flow I want.

These are the steps I'd like to take, in order:

    1. Dump music into a directory that the library manager program sees.
    2. Create playlist in Library manager program.
    3. Playlist is set to automatically sync to phone while on the same network (over WiFi or connected via USB to PC).

That's it. That's what I'm going for. Dealing with files and SD cards beyond that is a definitive "no".

My problem is that I have a lot of music. We're talking 5 digits here. I have a 128GB phone and 90+% of that storage is music (120GB). My current library is 190GB, as a reference, on my computer. Glorious compression gets me that 190->120 number.

My issue when attempting this with Android was that when syncing 2 or 200 songs to my phone, it'd take hours. Since the file system is restricted, what iOS does is it passes the directory to a database stored on the phone instead of scanning for the files like Android does.

Perhaps it was the method I was using, and there's a library manager for Android I don't know about that does the database method instead, which is why I'm submitting this.

That, or managing the playlists in Windows is a pain. If I could describe it with an analogy: Open an Adobe Product. Air or Flash or something. Except open the 2011 version. There you go. That's my experience.

So to clarify, my issues when doing this on Android are:

    1. Sync time when any changes are found due to SD card scanning.
    2. Managing the playlist on Windows to sync feels like I'm using software from 2011.

Is Drupe contacts and dialer app safe to use?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:52 AM PST

Is it battery hungry? Collects unnecessary data? Consumes a lot of ram? Anything? Review from people using it would be helpful as well. I'm looking for an alternative to dialer and contacts app.. Any recommendations are welcomed.
