Posted: 30 Nov 2017 08:05 AM PST Anyone else have this issue with the latest and "greatest" windows update I highly regret doing it and I waited too long and cant go back now :( Running Windows 10 Pro 64x did not have this issue till the big fall update crap. Even tried updating my nvidia drivers no change...I run on a multi monitor setup. I'd also like to mention so much micro stuttering as well in netflix on edge... [link] [comments]
How do you deal with the "2 menus for the same thing" in Win10? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 07:27 AM PST This has been bugging me a quite a while now. Windows 8+ often has both metro and the explorer menu for the same setting. Sometimes they can both do the same job but sometimes they direct you to the other. For example, if I type printer to the start menu, both metro "printer & scanner" and the control panel "device and printers" came up. In this case they basically do the same thing. However the control panel "user account>manage accounts" transfer me to the metro "Accounts" section if I click on "Add a new user in PC settings". I would prefer not to be tossed around like that. Is there anyway to eliminate this? [link] [comments]

Why is SSL Inspection only blocking on Win 8 and up? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 07:21 AM PST TLDR: I cant download windows updates or activate Office 365 on my work network because of SSL inspection done by the firewall. Updates for 7 download fine. Why? For the past year or so I've had a back and forth with the network team at work on windows updates (and now O365) and the SSL inspection that they use on the network. I can show proof like the connection failing on the network and then working immediately after when connected to a hotspot and they still won't make an exception for this traffic. I'm quite sure its the cause because briefly I did achieve in getting an exception made (well, after complaints came to a head and he finally called Palo Alto which confirmed what I was saying) however a few months later one guy on that team decided to run a pin test from home during the day without telling anyone else. The rule was deleted and now I'm back at square one. The biggest hangup they seem to have is that updates for Windows 7 work just fine. I'm aware of the changes Microsoft made in response of Flame and other issues, but I could have swore they also made the changes for 7 but I can't find anything to confirm it. If anyone is aware of a whitepaper or a KB that can explain why 7 updates work It would be helpful because now I'm getting blamed for Office activations not working on new machines because I maintain the master image. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Is there a spreadsheet in excel with a list of command prompts? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:57 PM PST Hello all, I am looking for a spreadsheet that has all or a lot of useful command prompts. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]
How to remap right click button on windows 10 track pad (laptop) Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:47 PM PST So I recently migrated from mac, and I must say I much prefer having ctrl+click as a right click button, over having the track pad split into left and right click. I know there is a setting to turn off right click on trackpad, however upon disabling there is no new way to right click. Any ideas? thanks. [link] [comments]
System Image Restore keeps failing Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:26 PM PST Hello there, After an unlucky day I messed up my Windows 10 installation and wanted to restore from a System Image backup I had done yesterday - maybe not so unlucky after all - using 'Backup and Restore (Windows 7)'. The problem is that every time I start the restore process from Windows 10's install media USB, it stops immediately and I get this:
"A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application event log for more information. (0x80042302)"
I read here, at the very bottom of the page, that this could have something to do with BITS not being started. I have 3 HDDs and a USB drive (Windows 10 install media), so I need to exclude one of the drives and the USB, which is where BITS seems to be the issue. However, I just can't seem to start up BITS from command prompt inside the Windows 10 Repair. Can you guys help me out here? Thanks in advance!

Is there any "dejunking" tool which could make regular Windows 10 similar to LTSB edition? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:21 PM PST I currently run Win 10 LTSB, however, i'm missing some features that the last updates bring. I was thinking about getting standard edition, but, thinking about deleting and disabling all the unnecessary things makes me sick. Maybe is there any tool that could do it automagically by clicking some checkboxes? [link] [comments]
"Windows Detected A Hard Disk problem" Complications Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:32 AM PST Walked over to my idle computer in the middle of the night to see this message displayed. The target is my Crucial M4 128 SSD, which contains the OS (Win 7). After some Googling, the message is clear: "Back up immediately, you were lucky to get this warning!" When attempting the use the builtin Windows backup utility, I get an error. "A system image cannot be saved on a hard drive that your computer boots from or that Windows is installed on" Uhhh... What? My second hard drive, which holds all my steam games and still has 2TB of free space, does not hold the Windows install. How can I fix this issue and backup my SSD before it's too late? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:00 AM PST When I bought my Dell XPS 13 laptop about 4 months ago, it had Windows 10 Pro installed, and activated out of the box. Since then, I've switched through OS's frequently, going through multiple different linux distros, but eventually going back to Windows. However, when I installed windows back on to the laptop, I installed Windows 10 home. Since I need certain pro-version features, I went to go upgrade through the windows store, but it's requiring me to either put in a product key, or pay for the upgrade. Since my laptop came with Win10 Pro out of the box, and didn't include a product key, how do I get it back to Pro, after the fact? [link] [comments]
