    Who Else Misses Google Now?

BLU just released an andoid update. One problem: they forgot to test it. Countless people are locked out of their phones, including me. Their phone lines are jammed and people are livid, including me.

BLU Life One X2 - DO NOT UPDATE

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 03:25 PM PST

Just updated a Life One X2 - this is the first update BLU has pushed in like a year - and it bricked the phone. The prompt for the device PIN on restart does not accept the correct PIN. It also looks like I'm not the only one with this issue - judging by this forum post. Does anyone else have any insight on this?

I have Oreo on my HTC U11 - AMA!

    Posted: 28 Nov 2017 03:16 PM PST

I just installed the Oreo update on my US Unlocked HTC U11 and, well, I'm not loving it so much. Read on for my review (also posted on /r/htcu11) and let me know if you have any questions I can answer!

tl;dr: It's ok! I love all the Oreo goodies but there are some annoying issues.

    First, what I love:

    Now, what's going wrong:

    • I'm getting BT device disconnected toasts popping up every minute or so for no apparent reason. Seriously annoying, and if I can't figure out how to get them to stop (I need BT on for my Android Wear watch) I'm literally selling my U11.

    • The poorly done icons on Sense Launcher. This happens with any HTC default icon theme—luckily switching to Nova fixed this for me. Too bad my favorite stock weather/clock widget (the default one) makes Nova crash.

    • The undone emojis. HTC seems to have forgotten to theme the new emoji, so many (including the one pictured there) appear in flat-out the wrong color. Seriously? Did they even test this?

I'm still loving my U11, but I long for Nougat. I'd contact HTC support, but I've already emailed them twice about other issues and both queries have gone unanswered—nothing even in my spam filter :(.

Boot time is no faster (tho it did improve a lot with Oreo on the OG Pixel) so still unfortunately slow. Battery life seems similar—comment below and I'll PM you tomorrow evening with a battery life report!

Any questions about Oreo on the U11? Ask me, and I'll do my best to answer :).

Edit 1: unfortunately, treble support comes up false

Edit 2: blissfully, you can now keep the WiFi calling sticky notification from having an icon on the left of the status bar, so my WiFi calling preferred is back on!

Edit 3: in other awesome news, you can now toggle NFC on/off with the new quick toggle!
