Weird monospace font on Arch Linux Posted: 02 Jun 2022 11:32 PM PDT So I was trying out Cutefish DM today and after rebooting into my BSPWM again, my fonts are all weird. Polybar has too much padding and even Chrome (the top bar where the tabs and url are) has a weird monospace font. On Gnome it's alright I looked through Arch Wiki and still couldn't find a solution. Help me. EDIT: I found the solution! I deleted the file [link] [comments] |
Which guide do I follow for "pre-boot" encryption? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 09:51 AM PDT https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/dm-crypt/Encrypting_an_entire_system Which guide do I follow here if I want to have the same type of boot encryption that ubuntu sets up during its install (i.e. the not horrifically slow one)? Linux made happier than I used to be Posted: 02 Jun 2022 06:35 PM PDT I'm currently studying a computer science degree, as most members of this subreddit I am really excited about all the tech world and the beautiful things it has to offer. However a few months back I was going through some personal problems that just made me really depressed, I stopped coding for fun and I quitted playing video games. I felt like I was an absolute dumbass and I was about to quit studying and just do something else. I felt like I lost the grip of who I was. And this might sound kinda dumb but I gave another try to Linux as my last desperate attempt to get back to be exited about technology, and after forcing myself to get the best experience on Linux I managed to get my system working just as I like it with all the customizations and games I played. I broke the system twice and fixed it after researching and reading wikis, that made me feel powerful and I again wanted to keep on studying just to keep getting better and overall get more confidence in myself. Now I am getting the best experience out of it and just vibing with all the good things Linux and its community has to offer. If you are thinking on quitting Linux just because you broke your system or just feel like it is really complicated for you don't quit! I will promise you that it will be worth it. (Thanks for reading this, this really does mean a lot to me) Ps: English isn't my main language so I'm sorry if I made any mistakes on my writing, love y'all [link] [comments] |
I'm completely stuck at the installation process for Linux Mint Posted: 03 Jun 2022 05:14 AM PDT I have a somewhat older laptop that I plan on using as a place to test out Linux so I don't fuck up any computer I actually care about, but I can't even get past the installation process. I've been seeing lots of people saying that Linux Mint is so easy to install that even their 90 year old grandmother can do it, but it is the most complicated thing I have ever done on a computer. I've spent the last 4 hours trying to figure out how to verify the ISO thingy and I still haven't made any progress. Is there any easier way of going about this? Edit: My laptop is running Windows. Steam is broken, no idea how to fix it. Posted: 03 Jun 2022 06:59 AM PDT SOLVED: Issue was a driver version disparity I recently updated my system and Steam magically stopped working, I've tried googling the issue but all I can see is people fixing it by restarting which hasn't done it for me. Icecast reverse proxy on Alma-Linux 8.6 VPS Posted: 03 Jun 2022 09:08 AM PDT I'm trying to configure a virtualhost for Icecast service in my VPS. I have already created a dns record for the web but I'm not sure what info should I put in the VirtualHost conf file Icecast is listening port 8000 and I can see the initial page in browser using :8000 after the ip but I want to use, for example, icecast.domain.com but I don't know how. I know I need to use reverse proxy but I don't know how to use it and also don't know what is the DocumentRoot for Icecast... [link] [comments] |
How do I install AMD Drivers on PopOS? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 08:34 AM PDT I was thinking to switching to pop os and before doing so i was checking if my r350 had any drivers for linux, and it has the latest ones in 2015... Any updated versions? [link] [comments] |
how to troubleshoot connection issues with secured wifi connection? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 08:31 AM PDT I've decided it would be fun to bring my laptop with Lubuntu 22.04 to work today and see if I can get it to connect to the work wifi. Nope. it doesn't even acknowledge the AP I am able to log into using Windows. On Windows you know how it goes, it tries to make it simple for the end user so not much is revealed. On Linux I need to know details like what kind of encryption is being used because none of it is auto-detected. I've tried a netplan config as if the secured network is WPA-EAP and TLS. There was an error with indention that I fixed. Now I can restart netplan with no errors, but it totally ignores the secure AP and auto connects to the open guest AP. This makes we wonder: is Ubuntu ignoring my edited yaml file? so I have a few questions : --is there a way to determine the networking config file in use? --is there a way to probe the secure AP to determine the security type and scheme? edit: I've just discovered sudo iwlist (wireless card ) scan to get the security scheme for the AP. Thanks... [link] [comments] |
black screen with cursor after installing kde in debian testing Posted: 03 Jun 2022 07:58 AM PDT distro: debian bookworm/testing installed DE: gnome & KDE plasma communication protocol: x11 I installed kde few months ago using in kde I did a little bit of customisation on status bar but wasn't satisfied with it so went back to gnome and uninstalled it using today I installed it again using the same command. now after I boot into kde first I see it's splash screen then the main desktop, but I see the desktop layout that I made myself weeks ago before uninstalling it. it appears for a few seconds and then disappears leaving me with a black background and cursor. so I uninstalled kde using the following command: pastebin link and reinstalled again using problem didn't solved, I tried entering in tty using ctrl + alt + f2 and checked mem and cpu usage with also tried restarting kwin with I reinstalled kde again, same thing happened. extra info:

Posted: 02 Jun 2022 10:27 PM PDT Hi, I have two issues with Zathura, help would be really appreacited. 1) How do I remove the bar on the bottom of my document which states the directory of the file? I've tried putting "set guioptions none" in my Zathurarc with no avail. 2) Can I disable 'scrolling' and make it instead that I flip through pages, so kind of like an image viewer in that sense? I know I can use the page up and down keys to flip through pages, although I get bleed in from the the previous and next page. [link] [comments] |

I have successfully built my first SlackBuild (Virt-Manager, Libvirt, and QEMU) on "Slackware" Posted: 03 Jun 2022 12:17 AM PDT I am actually USING Slackware, not building it on another distro. It is Porteus. As a noob that has never compiled software before, I have successfully installed Slapt from Salix and then Porteus gets upgraded to Slackware 15 levels. Many people say Linux is not worth using, it is only for people that don't value their time. I doubt building in Windows is any easier, but no Windows users uses source code. It did take a long time, and it is probably because my system is minimal and has no dependencies installed. (and so everything broke). Libvirt 8.1.0 works fine, for Slackware 15. It feels good that I successfully built it despite all the missing unwritten dependencies and made a .xzm. PCIe passthrough works too. Using Slackware must be a adventure. Don't you think. Is the time you don't value actually an adventure and worth every bit of fun? Especially for professional nerds who must and have to learn how their things work because they are nuts. It is fine, but I wanted to ask if you know how to add SlackBuilds repository into Slapt, so I can see updates. Maybe there is even an program or auto update feature for downloading SlackBuilds and compiling them? Seeing updates is good enough usually. Or could Slapt automatically download and run SlackBuilds. Most dependencies come precompiled on Salix, Slackel and Slackware 15.0. Shouldn't be hard just do download them through the package manager. Hmmm, wonder if Slapt can download source code from various repositories and build them when updating. Not SlackBuilds, but something akin to src or debian-src. It is unnecessary, but watching your system build code is fun. Then you get a system made of compiled code (that mostly isn't compiled by another computer). [link] [comments] |

Tutorial: How to Flash a USB Stick? Posted: 02 Jun 2022 11:01 PM PDT Hello Friends. For my efly live system project I created a little writeup on how to correctly place a raw disk image on a USB stick, so that you can boot an operating system from the stick. It is very newbie-friendly but also touches on some advanced subjects like block devices and hardware firmware. I wish I had something like this available, when I was getting into Linux. Please share, if you know someone who needs help with this kind of stuff. Have a nice one! [link] [comments] |
Is it possible for a router to recognize my PC as windows? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 12:54 AM PDT Weird question, but I want my router to see my PC as Windows, or a console instead of Linux. I have a game booster router(i know that they usually don't work, but they do work, and improve routing in China), and said booster doesn't support Linux, which makes it kinda useless. So is it possible to make it seem as if I'm using windows or a console? [link] [comments] |

Installed distro in new SSD and now can't boot old distro Posted: 02 Jun 2022 04:35 PM PDT I have a SSD SATA with Manjaro and Windows 10. Now I bought a SSD NVMe. I read somewhere recommendation to remove current drive when installing system in new drive, so I did it. Disconnected SSD SATA and installed openSUSE in new SSD NVMe. Now I reconnected my SSD SATA, having both SSDs connected, but I can't boot to my Manjaro. I remember my default boot in SSD SATA was named grub or something like that, allowing me to choose between Manjaro and Windows 10. Now boot options are "opensuse-secureboot", "opensuse-{ssdnvmebrand}" and "Windows boot manager". openSUSE grub doesn't offers me to boot W10, but I can boot W10 by selecting "Windows boot manager" in BIOS. So now I can boot 2 of 3 systems I have. But I need to run my Manjaro. How to fix this please? Edit: solved. [link] [comments] |
