Redoing network with Unifi — suggestion needed Posted: 03 Jun 2022 02:02 PM PDT Hi all First of all, sorry for the long text but I'm trying to give as much details upfront and letting you know my current setup and what I'm idealizing. I currently have my AIMesh network running with 1 AC86U, 2 AC68U and one AC1900. This is working well but I have quite a few smart controllers at home (Shelly devices mostly) and seems my network sometimes struggles, main mode becomes unresponsive and I have to reboot it (and sometimes even a couple times) — it even happened that the nodes disappeared from the mesh and had to re-add them. Two nights ago, the main router crashed, rebooted and… configs gone. Wonderful! Since then I'm thinking of upgrading my network. I already thought of going with XT8 but if I'm spending money I'd go with … unifi! My house is 20 years old so networking isn't really well done here and I had to improvise but I have no way to have a dream machine pro/SE as the ISP ONT/Router (which I cannot get rid of) is in the living room so I need something a little aesthetic. So I checked out Dream Router and Dream Machine and I'm honestly not sure what would pick… while Dream Machine has a 1.7 ghz quad core processor it has 1GB of RAM; Dream router has a significantly less capable cpu but double the RAM. I'm not that concerned with Wi-Fi 6 (and eventually I can hookup some APs to have it if needed). A bit more info about my house/setup:

Xbox one trying to access malicious sites help please! Posted: 03 Jun 2022 11:51 AM PDT Hello! I received notifications through my Fios app that said an Xbox one in our house was trying to access malicious sites such as toglooman, beltrapurint, denetsuk, and jomtingi. I looked these sites up and they appear to be malware and viruses, but forums say that Xbox One can't get viruses or malware? What are these sites and would a factory reset get rid of these on the console? I think it is on my brothers console because he uses Microsoft edge sometimes. What should I do? Thanks! Can't for the life of me forward any ports Posted: 03 Jun 2022 04:12 PM PDT So I moved a little bit ago into a more rural area, same ISP though just way slower speeds, and instead of direct in-home fiber I got DSL, and of course, the modem/router that was provided was garbage and I had an Asus ZenWifi Mini kit laying around that I just never used because I didn't need it. So I set it up here and it works great, just plugged into the ISP modem/router with the WAN port. I love it never have a spot where I don't have a connection and devices swap around fairly quickly without sticking to just one node. Now here's the problem, I can't seem to get any port whatsoever to open for me. At the old place, I had like my 3d printer with a webcam so I could check it when I was out, some game servers I hosted just for me and my friends to play on, an unreal engine instance so I and a few people could work on a game together at the same time, it all worked great and was able to forward the ports easily. Just loaded up the web gui and forwarded them. Now at the new place nothing works, go through every firewall I can fine, tried forwarding the ports on just the ISP modem/router, then just the Asus router, then on both, feels like I've been through every possible setting I can find. For some reason no matter what I do to forward any of the ports it doesn't work whatsoever. I'm really at a loss and I'm just looking for any help I can get. It just doesn't make any sense to me what's stopping this from working. [link] [comments]

ATT Fiber 1000: Slow download fast upload Posted: 03 Jun 2022 05:16 PM PDT I have a technician scheduled to stop by this Sunday but I received a text today from ATT saying that they may have resolved the issue. A few weeks ago I noticed that while trying to download a game on Steam, the download speeds were very slow. Then last week, I did a speedtest through the site and I saw that I was getting around 200 download and 400 upload. I called ATT and they shipped me a new modem, which is the same that I had before, the BGW 210. Yesterday after I installed it, the same thing was happening so ATT support scheduled the technician to come out Sunday. Today when I got home, I downloaded the speedtest app to my computer and I am now getting around 350 download and 930 upload. So it looks like something may have happened on their end. With this said, I researched the internet as I wanted to know if I perhaps something with my computer was the issue, and saw something about uninstalling any game optimization apps, etc. I uninstalled anything I could find, such as ASUS Armory Crate, and looked through basically every nook and cranny I could. I made sure that the Ethernet drivers were up to date and directly from Intel and not from Asus. I then ran my computer in safemode and I received the same speedtest results, so perhaps its not my computer? I am stumped and I am just concerned that the technician will come out and not be able to solve the issue and attribute it to something in my computer that he won't be able to detect. Has anyone else had this issue? If I need to provide more information about my system I can. Thank you [link] [comments]

Router for WFH + gamer in a small apartment! Posted: 03 Jun 2022 04:32 PM PDT As the title suggests, I'm a tech professional and gamer. I work and play from home and recently have been looking to upgrade my router. I have a secondhand TP Link Archer C7 V2 that's served me well, but I've been having issues and the verdict from friends and ISP alike is that the poor thing might be ready to kick the bucket, I want to start exploring what's out there! I don't have too many hard requirements or special circumstances. My apartment is a small one bedroom. I typically have two desktops (one for work and one personal) wired through my current router. On wireless, I most often use my phone but have two TVs with Amazon Fire Sticks, and a couple game consoles - Switch, PS Vita, etc. I also am getting a Steam Deck eventually, and already use in home streaming to stream games from my PC to my phone/Vita, so I want to make sure whatever I get can handle that smoothly! I have gigabit fiber, so obviously I'd like something that can make use of the full speed. Beyond that, I admittedly don't even know what might be helpful or relevant to buying a new router as I've never shopped for one on my own, so I'm hoping folks here can point me in the right direction! As for budget, I don't really have any strict limit, but obviously the cheaper the better, as long as it's still good quality! Regardless, I think with my small/simple setup most recommendations wouldn't be too unreasonable anyway. And just for small context on things I'm troubleshooting and hoping to avoid going into getting a new device - the last year or two I've had so many headaches with the current router. When I got my Samsung S21+ it would drop signal constantly, and at first I just thought it was the phone acting up, but this only happens on my home network. Recently, I've also noticed my wireless network only (not the wired connection) seems firmly throttled to 20 Mbps with no amount of troubleshooting making a difference. I had no serious issues with it before - just your typical once in a blue moon outages and DNS troubles that I could probably blame on my ISP or something. Just hoping to iron out the headaches and future proof my setup a bit more! [link] [comments]
Internet speed on my one pc is slow? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 03:26 PM PDT Just finished building my pc(MB: MSI Z690-A WiFi ddr4), downloaded and updated all the drivers and connected to my wireless WiFi. Ran a speed test and I was at 140ping, 40mbps download and .01mbps upload… I get like 12 ping, 300+mbps/280mbps on all other devices in the same room. I tried switching the bands from 2.4, 5, dual bands and nothing. Any suggestions and help is appreciated. [link] [comments]
Spectrum technician doesn't have a solution. Posted: 03 Jun 2022 03:23 PM PDT I have an Arris TG1672G cable modem and a TP-LINK DECO Mesh Network. My internet drop its connection at least once a day. The Spectrum tech said I should get rid of my AWG modem and get a non-awg modem. He claims the wifi on my modem causes the connection to be dropped because of my mesh network. Does anyone know of a better AWG modem or a different solution? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jun 2022 11:21 AM PDT Upgraded to a 2500Mbit Fibre connection and looking for a supporting router. I'm a little bit confused whether a 10G SFP+ port will sync to 2.5G or not... Can anyone recommend a router that will support 2.5G? (Please answer only from experience). [link] [comments]
MoCa Network Help: Devices disconnect from WiFi when MoCa is setup Posted: 03 Jun 2022 02:53 PM PDT I have been trying to setup a pair of Actiontec WCB3000N01 to my current networking setup because I need Ethernet in my bedroom. The issue I am having is whenever the MoCa is connected to the router, some devices will disconnect from the wifi. It's also weird that it's only a few devices, not all. At first, the setup was working fine but now it has started happening. My current MoCa setup is how Actiontec's diagram is. https://www.actiontec.com//wp-content/uploads/2020/04/ecb6250-digram-full.jpg Any suggestions why this happens? I am new to all this stuff and trying to figure it out. [link] [comments]
Installing a modem amp in my apartment -- worth it? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 02:42 PM PDT Hi all, My internet connection has been intermittently disconnecting in recent days. I live in an apartment complex with about 17 other units. I use my own modem (Netgear CM1000v2) and run a 3-foot coaxial cable between my modem and the wall. I don't split the signal, and I've tried swapping the cable out to no avail. Power usage on the upstream channels is always high (consistently ~58dBmV or higher), and the downstream channel power seems to be on the low end of normal. Here are some stats from my modem -- I included a picture when power was lower than usual but still high. The downstream power seems have a wide range too (usually -10dBmV to -4 dBmV). I've been trying to get the cable company to do something about it, but they are very reluctant to send anyone out to take a look at things. I suspect the issue is either that the cable line from the street needs fixing, or there is some problem with the wiring inside my building that I cannot access. After digging around a bit, a common recommendation seems to be to install an amplifier with active return to boost the signal. However, it seems like most of the time these get installed near the outside of the house where the lines come into the home, and being in an apartment building, I can't really do that. My questions are:

Using Ubnt Loco m2 as a station without AirMax? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 02:38 PM PDT Edit: fixed it by switching conncted laptop back to auto for IP settings, seems to work fine So I'm trying to get one of the older Loco m2 units to pick up a WiFi signal that's a decent distance away and turn it into a wired signal. The wifi that I'm trying to pick up is not a Ubiquiti device and thus does not have airmax. I have set the m2 to station mode, selected the appropriate ssid, confirmed connection and good signal strength, but no Internet or IP, and no option to turn off AirMax (the option exists in AP mode, but not station mode). I have updated to most recent firmware.. Ideas? [link] [comments]
Cat5 cables go to phone outlets? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 02:30 PM PDT Our house's wiring had 2 Cat5 cables in the media panel. Centurylink added ethernet ports to them and connected them to our router. With that being said, there are 2 phone jacks in the house but no ethernet ports. Is it possible that the Cat5 cables are going to the phone jacks?? [link] [comments]
U6-Pro alternative with a similar MSRP? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 10:32 AM PDT Does anyone know of a alternative to the U6-Pro with a similar ~$150 USD price? The unify shortage has pushed the U6-Pro way outside my price range and I keep missing the restocks (apparently the one today only lasted 20 minutes). I just purchased a Qotom minipc with 2.5 gig nics and want to use it as a pfsense router and need an accompanying access point. The throughput of the U6-Pro is a major selling point to me because I have roommates who stream on twitch and don't want them complaining to me about lag or speed issues. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.! Edit: I've found that the Netgear Wax620 and TP-Link EAP660 HD are both cheaper than the U6-Pro on Amazon AND offer 2.5 gig ports. Might go with those. Edit: the Engenius EWS377AP is the same as the TP-Link minus the subscription. [link] [comments]

Fed up with Eero. Looking to go else where. What recommendations do y’all have? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 10:08 AM PDT I've had eero for about 2 years now. It's been 50/50 for me, but lately I've been having more issues and I'm honestly done with it. Looking for recommendations for a 2 piece set for mesh. My isp plan is 900 down 25 up, live in a apartment complex and need wireless backhaul. Unit is about 2000 sqfeet. I was looking at the Asus ET8. I currently have 2 eero pro 6 units. Mesh-like support wired via Ethernet? Posted: 03 Jun 2022 01:46 PM PDT I have a relatively small home, but want the network to extend out to a shed and some outdoor areas. The home itself is wired for ethernet. I currently have four of the original Google Wifi pucks. 3 of the pucks are hard wired via Ethernet, and the other lives in the shed and is connected via a TP-Link Powerline ethernet adapter. Overall, the current setup works okay, but my neighborhood is being wired with fiber and I expect to have gigabit or faster service in the near future, and will likely be upgrading our computers to be newer wifi over the next few years. I've really enjoyed the ease of configuration with the Google Wifi, but their newer mesh pucks don't support ethernet, and don't seem to support gigabit bandwidth. What options do I have that would let me plug access points into ethernet and serve gigabit or faster wifi? [link] [comments]

looking in to wired access points for my house. please advise Posted: 03 Jun 2022 09:24 AM PDT Ok so currently I am using a cm400 modem with deco mesh m3 setup, it's absolutely trash I Ihave to reset the units multiple times a day otherwise speeds go in the dumpster. Internet company said it's my modem but I think it's just everything needs upgraded. I live in an older 1800 Sq ft house with plaster and lattice walls so signal suffers bad. I want to go to multiple wired access points. I don't require much management of the network itself as long as my wifi is strong from corner to corner. I had planned 3 eap245s, oc200, with a tplink poe switch. But after all my reading the eap610 popped up. It says they can be ran standalone, given I don't need much hands on management would that be the best course of action. Am I correct in thinking this means I can run the poe switch right off my modem, split to the access points. Then just set them up to run standalone? Will that still give me seamless ap roaming and such? If not does anyone have a suggestion here? I am budgeting for like 400ish. I already have the new modem coming Monday which is a motorolla mb8611. Sorry if this isn't enough Iinformation, don't know much about networking. Let me know if you need more information, all suggestions are appreciated. [link] [comments]
I want more IPs and range, and I have lots of old / spare routers ... Posted: 03 Jun 2022 01:08 PM PDT I am currently using a tp-link Archer VR2800 for modem / router duties, but it seems to have a limit of about 25-30 clients. Other than this it works well for me. I have my PC wired to it, then on WiFi about 20 misc home automation things and then also other misc stuff too. Their support confirmed that there is a limit to total clients to me, so i want to use the other routers to give me more local IPs on my network. In addition, it would be great to have a network I can pick up well from the other side of the flat, which has spotty reception. I thought that this sounded like what an Access point or two may be able to do for me. But I have just spent a few hours messing with settings, google, and reboot buttons to no avail. I have been trying to use the tplink as a modem / router, with, to start, a ZyXEL VMG3925-B10B as an additional router / access point. I've been trying to get it working wired with no luck (tplink LAN to zyxel WAN). I'm not 100% sure that I am trying the right things. As an AP what I want? Is a more pure "extra router" different from an AP? Will I still have limited IPs if I still leave the tplink router asigning IPs? If so, can I just reserve some for each router I use? I don't really care about a lot of the devices' speed. I have a few webcams etc. and my gaming PC that need a good connection, but a lot of the devices are dumb "smart" lights, etc. that barely use any data. I was thinking of lumping mostof these onto one old piece of hardare. The modems / routers I have, in descending age :
Any tips? Am I trying the right things? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Looking for a good wifi mesh system that works with Verizon Home LTE (25mbps/5mbps) Posted: 03 Jun 2022 01:08 PM PDT I'm kinds new to the smart home and advanced networking. I have verizon home LTE and don't have great speeds but they work about 25mbps down and 4 to 5 mbps up. The router they supply works well but are noticing that with adding smart home things the furthest point in the house suffers as my router is in a window on the other side. Looking for a good mesh system that is perhaps better than the Google wifi option if a better option works better for my speeds. Obviously wifi6 is a waste on my (from my understanding). What do you guys think? The more I look the more I go cross-eyed [link] [comments]
