Posted: 03 May 2022 04:15 AM PDT Hi, I started to use timeshift 3 weeks ago. The first two weeks it worked just fine but yesterday I tried to created a snapshot and got this error: I have no idea what it may be. I tried to create a snapshot from the command line and while I don't get the error, timeshift still fails to create a snapshot: Does anyone knows how to fix? If not, what alternatives I can use? Help with extending Volume on Ubuntu, I've increased in VMware. Posted: 03 May 2022 02:51 AM PDT Hello, So I've added 50GB to a 100GB drive, but I'm not seeing it to extend when I run 'sudo vgdisplay' and it shows as 99GG still. I guess I could boot off fdisk live to extend, but I thought I could do it here? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Did I possibly damaged my computer(or disk) by using BleachBit? Posted: 03 May 2022 03:57 AM PDT A week ago I decided to "securely delete" my files by using BleachBit(I checked the box which said "overwrite deleted files") then my computer got really slow in the process and heated. After that, my computer feels slower. Technical details : The disk is a SSD.(Ubuntu) [link] [comments] |
Ranger won't open certain files Posted: 03 May 2022 02:59 AM PDT I tried to use ranger to navigate to and open oblivion's ini file in neovim (I have already added export visual, editor = nvim to my bashrc) but ranger just wouldn't open the ini file. I can open other types of files with ranger and it opens with neovim like I set it up to do so but ini files just don't work. I get the "xdg-open --help" output. How do configure ranger to open ini files? [link] [comments] |

How to properly setup a new HDD in my laptop? Posted: 02 May 2022 11:10 PM PDT Hi everyone. Question here. I have a laptop with one ssd where I have my os - currently running on Manjaro - and the other one which I intend to use as a data storage. I am used to this setup rom windows and I would like to keep it in Linux as well. However from my practical experience something tells me it's not just that easy. I've wiped the hdd clean, formated it to both ext4 and btrfs but with no real luck since I haven't been able to create folders or copy files to this hdd. This is simply my longtime win user logic here and I guess you know what I'm struggling here with. However I would like to make this hdd a proper and full-fledged drive for my system. So could you share a hint or two how to do it so my system could use the hdd to the maximum? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 May 2022 10:54 PM PDT Is it possible to get Flatpak and Snapd all together in one store app? I've read that GNOME Software took out the support for Snapd, so the only thing available for it is Flatpak. The closest thing that comes to what I'm talking about is the Software app for Zorin OS "The Software store allows you to install apps from the Zorin OS & Ubuntu APT repositories, Flathub, and the Snap Store out of the box.", how do I get that on my system? Before you anyone asks why not just use the terminal, I matter of fact prefer to use the terminal. But there are times where I'm just super lazy, it's not that I hate the terminal I just sometimes feel like scrolling through a store of apps and just looking at them, reading the reviews and then installing it if it sounds useful. Site for showing off different Linux desktop environments? Posted: 02 May 2022 10:48 PM PDT I'm looking for a site or subreddit where people can show off their DE (specifically for Plasma). I would love to search through it to see what settings others have used. Settings such as Global Theme, Application Style, Plasma Style, Icon Sets, etc... Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Can't Connect to any wifi (Arch Linux, XFCE environment) Posted: 02 May 2022 04:21 PM PDT I have recently installed arch on my PC (with XFCE), and it does not show me an option to even connect to wifi, and I enabled and started NetworkManager and the whole 9 yards. I go to the UI, and all it shows is eithernet connection only. what do I do? Edit: I think XFCE is based on gnome, and I think I installed something wrong if thats the case. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 May 2022 08:03 PM PDT I want to run: At startup. I do not care if it is system wide. But, it could be user specific. But, for the most I am the only that uses the PC and even if someone else did use it they would not need the device. It just conflicts with another device on my system anyhow. It is an onboard wifi card. So, I can not just remove the card. I would just put it in a file and then have it run at startup. But, it requires root privileges. So, Do I have to run it with Crontab? Or do I put it in profile.d? Or do I put it somewhere else. I thought there was a location that you put scripts that run at root. But, I can not remember. Another thing I have come across is using rc.local directory. Which would be the best way? [link] [comments] |

Do I really need GRUB with 2 separate drives? Posted: 02 May 2022 07:10 PM PDT Sorry, I think that title is bad. Anyways, I was able to update the PC with a new M.2 drive and now I have a 500gb SSD that I would like to start test driving with PopOS. I've had grub before on an old laptop but that was on one drive. So if I have Windows on the M.2 and PopOS on the SSD. Can I just set the BIOS boot priority to the SSD to boot into PopOS instead of windows to avoid GRUB or is there something here I'm missing? TL;DR - Do you really need grub if you can set your boot priority to the Linux drive? [link] [comments] |
