I'm thinking of buying either of these, which would you suggest is better? Both have basically the same specs, ram upgrades are the same but SSD can't be added in the MSI Bravo. I will be upgrading it to 16 gb just as I get the laptop so what are your thoughts?

Upgrading ram in my Asus tuf fx705dt

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 07:30 AM PST

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade the ram, it already has 8gb and I'm thinking of buying a 16gb stick for it.

Is it a good idea to have mixed capacity ram sticks, also could someone recommend me a ram for this particular laptop. Have searched for a Gskill and Adata ram, there's crucial but that's around 12-14$ costlier than those.

Anybody purchase a Lenovo laptop recently with delayed shipping?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 07:14 AM PST

I'm curious if the current estimates of 2+ months are accurate or safe estimates. Has anybody ordered recently and have you received any shipping notifications?

    My laptop makes weird noise

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 07:13 AM PST

Today morning it was doing normally, nothing strange. Yesterday I accidentally download program I didn't want, but I've deleted it with control panel already. It doesn't do anything at first, but when Skype turns on for about 5 seconds, it just stops everything and restarts the whole laptop. What should I do?

    Mac vs PC (laptop)

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 07:10 AM PST

I can't decide if I want to get a Mac or PC laptop because Want features of both. I like how the Mac looks and how much works with other devices and has the menu bar and has good software. But the windows computer is upgradable and can play games better and more customizable and more options.

I want a laptop for high school and i will not have a desktop.

I can't decide between 2022 MacBook air, XPS 13, Surface Laptop 5, or HP Spectre x360

Is 3200 MHz common on new "home" purpose laptops nowadays?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 07:03 AM PST

I just now noticed that my 3-month old laptop has 3200 MHz RAM (CL22) though it is marketed for "home" use. It is an HP dw-3025cl, and I swear I saw task manager say it was 2666 MHz the first week I had it (though I could be misremembering the RAM speed from that week). But either way, if the laptop does really have 3200 MHz, that means my laptop's RAM has the same speed as in some gaming laptops (albeit with worse CL numbers).

I don't see why HP would overclock "home" laptop mobos for that RAM speed, but anyways, how common is that RAM speed?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 06:59 AM PST

So im willing to buy a laptop that uses the i5 11th gen processor and im wondering if it could handle some games that i play which are minecraft and fifa (maybe more) at a stable 60 fps. I dont mind playing at 720p for fifa i just wanted to play with a nice fps. For minecraft, will it run Atleast 12 chunks at a stable 60 fps in the latest version? I also may be doing some light video editing too.

Any help will be appreciated :)

Also forgot to mention that the amount of ram in the laptop is 8gb,sadly not upgradable :(

    Thoughts on Lenovo Yoga 7i?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 04:07 AM PST

Planning to buy the Lenovo Yoga 7i as watching the reviews I think it's pretty great. I am deciding whether I should get that one or the M1 MBA... I am a Multimedia student so I would be using it for editing and coding.

    TIA!

Need help in choosing a laptop!!

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 03:55 AM PST

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

I'm purchasing under my company's grant, which provides me about $1,700 SGD to get a laptop for work purposes

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Not very keen to get any refurbs/used laptops

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

My top 4 priorities would be the durability, good battery life (as some of the places I go to might not have a charging port for me to charge my laptop), a keyboard that has backlit keys, as well as an accurate trackpad (similar to the ones on the Macbooks)

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I'd prefer something light as I'll have to carry it to the office and possibly to school if I have evening classes!

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

My current laptop is the Acer Spin 5 (the older version), so preferably something around that size! (Around 13-14 inch I suppose)

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

My work might require me to do some occasional editing and design on Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro. I also use Microsoft Office most of the time.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

While I have a desktop I can use for gaming, some light gaming on the laptop will be nice to have (but not a must!), I'm not too sure about the exact settings and FPS that's required for gaming stuff though

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I'd like to have a fingerprint reader if possible, as well as a backlit keyboard (for working in darker spaces) and an accurate touchpad!

I also need a minimum of 3-years for the warranty, but I don't mind topping up a little for any additional warranty (as long as the total price falls around the $1.7k SGD range)

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I was previously looking at the Macbook Air M1 (2020), but my company told me that they prefer Windows as the operating system.

I also looked at Acer Swift 3x, but I'm wondering if there are any other options out there that might be good too!

I've had bad experiences with Asus laptops in the past, so I'm kinda scared to get one from Asus again. But if you have anything that might change my mind then please feel free to share them with me!

    Programming Laptop with light gaming

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 03:52 AM PST

Must have a good tactile keyboard For exmaple Alienware, razor blade are out dont recommend those sluggish keyboard

Thinkpad its the best but thay have bloddy nipple and disturbingly annoying fn key replaced

Keyboard like macbook buttflies: get out of here

Mousepad/trackpad click and response Not click dell xps when u pick them thry click itself

Bigger screen Idk why programmer preffer 14 inch. The market is full of seriously stupud brands putting 4k in 14 inches yet still u see those tiny little pixels how pathetic

Preferred 16 or best 17 like lg gram screen And please this last this is important

Fan: Fan noise is really important during coding/programming thinking process. One hearing to constant fan hitting high n low is rrally frustrating . No i dont wana wear headphones all the time

Even the slightest fan noise can be annoying in office or library.

Occasional fan burst is fine to keep the temps normal but constant high low no please

Should not cost a kidney Idc if its used or old

Screen should be beautiful to look at not like asus tuff disgusting 17 inch pixelated screen.

Sorry english is not my first language. I hope u guys got my point
