    Acer Laptop won't turn on?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 07:41 AM PST

I have an Acer Aspire 3 314-31 laptop and it won't turn on. When I power it up the blue light switches on, the fan powers up then stops and NOTHING. I have googled endlessly for answers, I have removed the battery and charger and checked them, they're fine. I have removed the Bios battery and performed a hard reset and still nothing. The blue light comes on the fan spins once and that's it. I use this laptop purely for 3D printing and Fusion360 so don't want to lose all my files and settings. Any help is appreciated. Thank you! 🤞

    Help with an HP laptop

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 07:26 AM PST

We've had this laptop for a few years, its in good condition. The only issue since the first day we got it the the laptop will say the password is incorrect when you put it in. That is until it randomly decides to say welcome with the loading symbol then from there it will randomly decide whether or not to let you in or say the password is incorrect try again. Its not us putting the password in wrong, if you press the view button it's exactly the same every time but the computer just decides it's incorrect over and over. There are times we've spent like an hour putting the password in over and over and it just wont let us in. It lets you in when it feels like it

Good, Decently Priced Laptop For College? PLEASE HELP

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 03:24 AM PST

I'm willing to buy a laptop up to ~$600 but certainly cheaper is better.

I just need a laptop for college, I'm not doing anything fancy. Writing, reading, keeping several tabs open at once, etc. I got a computer when I was 16 but it genuinely takes 10 mins to start up & it's impossible.

I know so little about computers, I just need something that will run like, 9 tabs of text at once seamlessly. I don't care about brands, I am just so confused. Please help.

Need a nice gaming laptop around 2k USD

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 05:50 AM PST

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Around $2000 USD lower better obv

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Definitely performance, battery life, build quality, then form factor

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Would be great to get a thin and light laptop but it doesn't really matter to me

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      15-17in

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

This is for gaming. Games like, Valorant, League, CS:GO, Destiny 2

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

eSports titles I want 240fps at low, Destiny 2 I want around 100fps at medium

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I want a nice 240hz screen with small bezels resolution 1080p or higher. A nice clicky and quality keyboard is important aswell. Obv things like fingerprint reader and touch screen are nice bonuses but I don't need them.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I was looking at this laptop, is it any good? https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834725180?Item=9SIARUGHAR4271&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-9SIARUGHAR4271-_-12272021

Can someone please help me understand the difference between these two laptop batteries

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 05:21 AM PST

Both of them are from the same company(SellZone), same model number(C21N1509), same capacity(38Wh), but one is almost the double price of the other. The only difference that I see is the style of the characters on the labels.

    Battery #1

    Battery #2

Can old laptops be interfered with by anything in specific?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 04:52 AM PST

Laptop randomly switched on at 5am last night, dog was growling at it and it was shut, Xbox controller and salt shaker on top of it. Came down to it making white noise and notepad open with "xyzzzz xxxyyzzz zzyyyxx" or similar on it, I was wandering what could've caused this?

    Asus ux303 battery not detected

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 02:43 AM PST

Hi, I own an 2015 Asus UX303LNB, its battery deteriorated i bought a replacement battery.

However system won't boot without mains connected. The charging indicator on the laptop works, the battery charges, because when I boot with mains and then disconnect, the system continues to run.

Windows doesnt detect the battery either.

Any suggestions if it's a software problem? Or the battery lacks some sirxuitry? Thanks

    Cheapest Laptop to run Inkscape?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2021 10:07 PM PST

Hey all, I'm looking to get into some basic graphic designing. I haven't owned a laptop or computer in ~6 years and really know nothing about them. Inkscape is the most complex thing that I'll need to run, can I get away with a $200 chromebook, will a $400ish laptop suffice, or am I overestimating the cheaper units and need to spend a lot more?

Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15IMH05 touchpad being weird. help pls...

    Posted: 31 Dec 2021 12:45 AM PST

So I got this laptop and it said on the site it would come with freeDOS operating system (this didn't bother me, because I was going to install linux anyway). To my surprise it came with Windows 11. Everything was working fine exept the touchpad. Furthermore, the touchpad wasn't detected anywhere so I couldn't check for any driver updates. And the lenovo software said my system was up to date. I thought this was just a win11 issue, because it's still in development.
When I booted through the USB key with linux on it to test compatibility, the touchpad was working flawlessly and after rebooting back into windows 11 it was still working perfectly even on win11. But when I shut it down and booted up win11 a couple hours later it was broken again. Again, I thought this was just a win11 problem.
When I got around to installing Pop!_ os (on which the touchpad was working previously) the touchpad was working normally on the first boot after install, but on the next it was broken again. I tried two more distributions and had the same or worse results. I tried booting through the bios and changing a whole bunch of settings in the bios but I can't seem to figure out why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. After shutting down and booting back up a bunch of times I can get it working somehow, but I never understand why. All I know is that whenever I get working, it continues to work if I sleep, restart, shut down and immediately turn the laptop back on. When it does work it works 100% perfectly. It only stops working again if I turn the laptop off and turn it back on some time later.

I checked so many variables that it makes my head spin; toggle touchpad function key, pretty much every bios setting, plugged into power or not, booted through a USB or not, mouse plugged in or not, all of the function keys, booting through a boot manager, and even screen and keyboard brightness. There was a restart after all of these to check if something needed reloading after the changes were made. I found out that none of these have any connection with the touchpad working.
It happens totally randomly. Yesterday evening I turned it on, restarted without making any changes and it was working on the next boot. But this morning it wasn't working again.

I have no clue what else I can try, please help. Also I really don't want to take it to someone to fix it because I don't have much money atm.
I appreciate any and all help.
