A graduation project with facial recognition that needs feedback Posted: 30 Aug 2021 05:04 AM PDT Hello ! For my graduation project, with some friends we started an Android application. In our planning it is asked to have feedbacks from users, that's why I create this post today. To make a quick summary of the project: the application aims to manage its contacts by including the faces of these contacts. Our target are people with prosopagnosia and later we want to use the technology of facial recognition on glasses and augmented reality (which Google has not on to do). I read that to give an .apk it was necessary to go through a trusted third party or directly from the develop, so here is the share of my personal Drive (hoping that it is not against the rules): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13213Umz2Z0MCWlqvOoQzUScdMdk_bIgI?usp=sharing Usage advice: Thanks for reading, I only need 10 minutes of your time to help students! Posted: 30 Aug 2021 11:15 AM PDT Daylio is pretty good diary material. You can make notes that automatically get sorted by the date you set for them yourself, rather than the date you either created or last modified them. Even if you make a note that's about something you remember from a week ago, it will be sorted in your list of notes correctly. The other features of the app are also nice (setting a mood and activities). But I wish I had an app that also has a desktop interface, because sometimes I just want to type and view stuff on a bigger screen and with a normal keyboard. But I do want to be sure the syncing is safe, something like end-to-end encryption. Also a to-do bullet list feature would be nice. Not sure if that exists, since that's not really the purpose of a mood/diary app, but I often make task lists and most of the tasks I write down usually end up in my diary, as I often use it to write down useful/meaningful stuff I've done today. App that turns data off once screen is locked Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:05 AM PDT Hi friends I tried using naptime but there is no option to toggle wifi and data on sleep. It used to be there on my previous phone. Is this because of MIUI? My previous phones were close to stock android. Is there another app that offers this toggle data off on lock? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2021 10:16 AM PDT I have a Motorola Edge Plus with a broken lens on the top camera. I have learned that I can us telephoto or wide area shots with the camera to avoid the broken lens for now. The default camera app however does not let me pick either option for video recording. Is there a video camera app which would let me pick which hardware to use? [link] [comments] |

App similar to "recording in progress" sign. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 09:51 AM PDT My wife works from home in our bedroom and sometimes its needed to enter the room for myself or one of the kids. Problem being that she is an inbound representative so the calls are random and sporadic so simply texting me "in a call" and then "done with call" all day isn't practical. But maybe an app where she could just hit "recording in progress" or something and then if I need to go in the room I could just check the app and see if she's in session or not. And before it gets asked, sometimes she will be silent while logging info or in a meeting so listening outside the door for talking isn't always realistic. TIA for any suggestions. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 07:26 AM PDT Like on Asus Rog phones which have have features of bypass charging and the feature to stop taking charge after 80%, etc. is there any non-root battery app which could do the same? I can use adb to install/grant permission to an app which can do so. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
App to observe and kill ram draining apps Posted: 29 Aug 2021 10:09 PM PDT I've noticed that the ram usage in my phone is way too much than other phones in my home. Because of which even opening 2-3 app makes the phone laggy. This is why I want an app which can help me monitor the ram usage and also kill the apps using ram And free the ram. [link] [comments] |

Looking for a camera app that allows focus control Posted: 30 Aug 2021 07:01 AM PDT I have been using the inbuilt xiaomi app for the camera and its great but close up pictures really can be hard to get it to focus, are there any apps that allow manual control over the focus in an easy way to help with that sort of thing? Its a Poco X3 btw. [link] [comments] |
What sort of promotion do you recommend? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 06:38 AM PDT I am currently developing an android app and it's going pretty well so far. I think about publishing it to the play store in a month or two. The thing is, I don't know anything about marketing. It feels bland and dumb to just pay thousands of dollars for Google to put some ads for me. Is there any community, maybe even subreddit or any "not so Well known" approach to promote an app? I feel like developing the app was way easier than thinking about how to publish it 😂 [link] [comments] |
Looking for Fun/Interesting Apps for My Mom’s Phone Posted: 29 Aug 2021 10:13 PM PDT My mom's a woman in her fifties, doesn't know much about phones and doesn't really expect much from them beyond the basics. But she wants to read books and play a few games, and I am even more minimalistic than her wrt my phone needs, so I can't think of what to install on her phone. I want to help her, but just because I'm young she thinks I'm her resident tech expert lol Any advice/recs? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Good dialer app that doesn't ring? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 09:10 AM PDT OnePlus 5 Android 10 Does anyone know of a dialer app that you can have not ring? Instead have a notification like any other. I just want a specific sound to play once and a notification to temporarily appear in the notification shade while someone's calling. Then replaced by one to notify me of the missed call. I get a ton of calls everyday from telemarketers, overzealous services (like my bank, alumni association, etc), and colleagues that I know I'll have to call back another time. But the standard dialer locks up my phone, blocks a third of my screen, or obnoxiously sounds off until I go shut it up / voicemail kicks in. I'm trying Google voice, but it seems designed to not replace any of your standard apps. I've also tried shortening the amount of times it rings, which is nice until I get a call that I don't want to miss. It's awkward if I have to manually reject the call because people will realize it. Ignoring the call still leaves the banner notification on screen, blocks any media playback, etc. [link] [comments] |
Why You Suddenly Need To Delete Google Chrome Posted: 29 Aug 2021 12:31 PM PDT Behind the slick marketing and feature updates, the reality is that Chrome is in a mess when it comes to privacy and security. It has fallen behind rivals in protecting users from tracking and data harvesting, its plan to ditch nasty third-party cookies has been awkwardly postponed, and the replacement technology it said would prevent users being profiled and tracked turns out to have just made everything worse. Looking for unique apps (see post for more details) Posted: 29 Aug 2021 09:10 PM PDT Wanted to keep the title fairly short but what I mean by that is, I really like apps that either do something fairly unique or just really take advantage of the mobile platform. Some examples of what I mean: I really enjoy watching videos on my phone but I hate using my phone in landscape. Because of this, I love TikTok and (more recently) YouTube Shorts. Watching videos in portrait is great. The very short-lived Quibi had this going for it as well. Sure, the just one area (video watching) but the consistent thing between them is that they likely wouldn't exist without smartphones. Same could be said for GPS-based games like Pokemon Go. That's what I'm looking for. Apps that absolutely shine on mobile. Maybe even to the point where they couldn't exist without mobile. Apps that do things that not many other apps do (kinda like TikTok having basically a near-monopoly on short form video). If an app meets both of those criteria, I wanna know about it. Doesn't matter what kind of app it is. [link] [comments] |

Looking for inventory so that can search online based on barcode scan Posted: 29 Aug 2021 05:01 PM PDT I'm looking for an inventory that I can scan, say, a jewel case barcode and it will search online (Amazon, Google, whatever) and populate pertinent information. I have searched this sub and tried half a dozen recommended inventory apps in other threads and nothing did this that was free or had a small price. Suggestions? [link] [comments] |
