Computer science freshman looking for a laptop. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:03 PM PDT I posted a few days ago but didn't really get any replies, so I thought to post again. Anyway, as mentioned, I am a computer science student just starting college. I am in need of a new laptop as my current one is getting old (got it five years ago). I have no clue how to properly search for a new laptop so I decided to start from here. As for my requirements - 1. Windows laptop as I like to play games in my free time. 2. A good battery life (at least 6-8 hours while doing college work). 3. Good processor and RAM (at least 8 gb) so I can do my college work and play games. 4. I am not interested in video or photo editing. 5. As for games I would like the laptop to be able to play some of the games which are made free on epic games each week (like civ 6, hitman, control, etc.). 6. A good screen would be a plus. As for my budget its around $1200-$1300. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Is anyone else having a terrible time finding a new laptop Posted: 30 Aug 2021 02:24 PM PDT Unfortunately my xps 15 died on me and finding a replacement has been absolutely dreadful. I set a fairly decent budget of $1500 and yet there doesn't seem to be any enticing models available. They either have a caveat (no webcam, poor battery/thermals, integrated graphics etc), are premium build but very outdated, or simply don't exist. Is there somewhere I should be looking outside of r/laptopdeals, eBay and various big box retailers? [link] [comments]

Asus ZenBook 14 for a computer science student Posted: 30 Aug 2021 08:08 AM PDT I'm finally going to college ever sincer the pandemic started and I am searching for a laptop to buy. I have the experience of the first year regarding the tools we've been using so far and I am in need of a good CPU and portability, as the GPU and gaming are not a big priority. I've found this model of ASUS ZenBook 14:
I would like to know if the display quality is as good as advertised and if with such portability the power I'm imagining the CPU develops is unaffected (I find the 5800h running on an ultrabook a bit fishy). Should I switch to a gaming laptop with the same CPU in order to get the best out of it? I still consider portability a priority. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Aug 2021 02:04 PM PDT I'm looking at a touchscreen laptop for note taking and work in school. Would getting a 2 in 1 be better for note taking in lectures, or would a regular laptop with touchscreen suffice? I'm just wondering if it would be easier to look exclusively for 2 in 1 laptops or you guys think it wouldn't matter if the screen can't bend back all the way. I've never used a touchscreen and I can't tell if a regular bending laptop would be impractical for writing on it. [link] [comments]

Need a 4k OLED laptop with a numeric keypad that can handle gaming for under $2000. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:14 PM PDT I tried an HP Spectre for $1500. I figured at that price point a laptop could handle anything you throw at it. My bf started to introduce me to gaming on his $600 HP Pavilion gaming laptop and I found myself wanting to try it on my own and was very quickly humbled LOL. His laptop isn't bad but I can't go back now that I have seen a 4k OLED screen. Also I can't give up my numeric pad as I use it often and it seems like a lot of gaming laptops omit it. I basically just need something that can handle the basic needs of a student (no editing, just researching on web and writing papers) but I also want something with a glorious screen that I can watch movies on and yet strong enough to let me game. If I'm paying this much I don't want to feel limited. Considering Aero Gygabyte 15, let me know if anything else comes to mind [link] [comments]

I will start an apprenticeship (it specialist: system integration) and i need a portable laptop. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:02 PM PDT Title pretty much. Would love to hear what people (esp. the IT - people) here suggest. The company itself suggested Lenovo thinkpad line, Dell xps line and also some asus laptop. Important for me is the laptop shouldn't be over 13" (need something very portable), my company will pay up to 1600€ everything over that i have to pay myself (willing to do that if its worth it). extras that would be nice: - decent screen for Netflix/Prime video .. - power to play less demanding games (like wow or something like that, maybe the ryzen mobile cpus are better here ?) but overall rly not that important, but i am on the train everyday for ~2h in total - max 13" size - very important no gamer look [link] [comments]
Any Ryzen 5000 or Intel 11th gen laptops that include an internal sata ssd slot? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:46 PM PDT Just curious. I know most everything is all internal nvme, I'm wondering if there are any newly released laptops with the most recent Ryzen or Intel chips that have an internal slot for a sata ssd as a second drive. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:35 PM PDT I'm currently a Senior High School and planning to purchase a new laptop that I can use 'til college. May I know which one is better for a student like me. I'm not a gamer, I'd usually just do mild tasks like using Microsoft applications, 1080p video for school projects. Which of these two do you think offers better performance and would last long? 1.) Lenovo ideaPad Slim 5 14ALC05 82LM002UPH | 14in FHD IPS | Ryzen 7 5700U | 16GB DDR4 | 512GB SSD | AMD Radeon Graphics | Win10
I would gladly appreciate your responses. Thank you! [link] [comments]
