Xiaomi My custom ROM switching experience.

Xiaomi My custom ROM switching experience.

    My custom ROM switching experience.

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 02:05 PM PDT

    WARNING: Longpost

So... I need some introduction to this story, maybe..?

Previous year i bought Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T. I used it frequently and i was thinking that the stock rom was nice (but there were some issues that made me do that like google casting and other things i missed from my older phone.). And the update to MIUI 12 brought me to a place named "ROM hell". The system was lagging as heck and the battery literally was holding near half of a day. This was a really bad experience i had. After that i decided to flash a custom ROM...

The bootloader unlock timer was ticking and finally i said to myself that it's worth it to flash a rom.

And my first ROM was Pixel Experience+ with android 10. I chosen this ROM because it is popular among beginners in custom ROMs. It was buttery smooth and really rock-solid stable. The google pay was working out of the box because this device passed safetynet basic integrity and CTS profile. Battery was holding 1-2 days. It was a really great experience for me.

The next ROM was evolution x, i didn't use it very much, because my only main target was android 11. The rom was a little bit more slow and glitchy. It was still usable tho. (Holds battery near a day or so).

After evolution x, i tried Pixel plus UI because of cool screenshots i saw (why did i do that???). The ROM had no OTA updates, has no GPay and other stuff. The only thing that kept me near a half of a year on it was a good performance and battery (holds near a day). It has ui displaying glitches and other stuff that associates this rom with instability. I tried fixing GPay with some workarounds in Magisk and it worked. This was my greatest jump in custom ROM understanding, because i started using root tweaks frequently (like Substratum, Root Booster, Greenify). But bugs had me to switch to another custom rom.

And... I flashed... Resurrection Remix OS. I have no words about it. I just fixed everything with Magisk modules and root tweaks. It's customizable, yeah, but something kept me away from it. This thing was bad battery life. It was literally bad that i used this custom rom for nearly 2 weeks. I know, the rom isn't bad at all and the battery life depends on how maintainer optimized it. But, really, I don't want my phone to hold half of a day just for customization.

My next desicion was to flash Droid On Time OS. Nothing special, i just tweaked it as i like. The ui was some sort of new Google "material you" brewed with a normal material design and MIUI. I used this rom nearly a day!!! To find out that it's enough of jumping from one ROM to another.

And my last and totally last desicion was to flash MIUI back, but my brain told me to flash Xiaomi.EU, and i did that. This was such a great feeling, like i came back home like a hero from a big adventure with some fancy swords (like magisk) and other useful things. There are many features that i missed for a long time on custom roms. The customization with themes... This feels like heaven to customise phone without rebooting and other things. New fixed and finally stable updates of MIUI made phone less laggy and less battery consuming (practically holds a day). There is no ads and spyware in this ROM and it has GPay working out of the box. The only bad thing there is the Chinese content (like themes) because this ROM is based on a Chinese MIUI. I am not planning to switch now, only tweak it to perfection. I am using this ROM for a 2nd day and it's really polished. Many tweaks that i used are working there. I like it.

So... Why i flaired this post as discussion? Because i would like to listen to your opinions about MIUI and custom ROMs. Their functionality, speed, battery consumption. Your advice for beginners, your (rom, recovery, kernel) recommendations and other things you like to share with people who don't know how to flash ROMs. Tell your stories about flashing custom ROMs! This is a good experience in learning android! And i would love to see some interesting situations! Maybe there is some sort of a funny failure? Let's laugh at it! Maybe you like to say how you like one specific rom? We will hear your feedback and maybe try your rom on ourselves!

Thanks for reading this big post! This was my first chance to tell everything about flashing experience on a public! If there were any grammatical mistakes, then sorry, i am not a native English speaker. Anyways, goodbye and "swipe to flash"!

I finally found out the purpose of the "Joyose" App that is marked as "Bloatware & Junk" by many, which is wrong. The "Bloatware" is ESSENTIAL for Gamers.

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:57 PM PDT

So I recently upgraded my Phone from Poco F1 to Poco F3,
and like any other Person I started debloating the Phone firstly and came across few Bloatware Lists that were also featuring the Joyose Application (com.xiaomi.joyose).
I briefly followed along the List, however I noticed that I didn't receive SMS on time and also my Game Speed Turbo Booster Settings for GPU weren't applying/saving.
For a Gamer who uses Game Speed Turbo Booster this was catastrophic.
So after some digging and self testing I found out that:

Joyose (That is claimed to be a Bloatware) actually manages:

    - Native support for SMS
    but also
    - Essentials for Gaming and the Game Speed Turbo Booster (For Example if you wan't to apply GPU Settings, It won't.)

I strongly recommend you to not remove/disable Joyose because if you are a Gamer you won't get the Features or only limited Features of the Game Speed Turbo Booster and you can even may encounter Performance Issues.

If you already removed Joyose and want to recover it you can savely use this Tool to reinstall it:

    https://technolobe.com/2020/08/17/how-to-remove-bloatware-from-any-xiaomi-device/

Thank you for reading, what do you think? Did it help you?

Phone keeps restarting when I use Tiktok on 4/5G

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 02:46 PM PDT

I really regret getting this phone because of this. I start Tiktok watch 2 or 3 videos and then my screen turns black and my phone restarts. I already removed that Webview app. And I already did a factory reset. Does anyone else has any other ideas that I can try?

notification priority is gone! (poco m2 pro)

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 10:39 PM PDT

The biggest problem ive ever encountered after miui 12 was that notification priority notification for all notifications are just gone after an update which came 6 months ago.which means i can't hide notifications icons on status bar without disabling the notification completely. it's really annoying now that everytime an app requires persistant notification it's icon would always show up on status bar.

    Repost: Can't unlock the bootloader

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 10:21 PM PDT

My device is Redmi Note 5 Pro (whyred). I tried unlocking bootloader to install custom rom later, but I have got a problem. When I try to boot into fastboot mode, the fastboot image comes up but after 2 seconds it dissapears and phone boots into system normally. The Mi Unlock tool recognises my device for that 2 seconds and after that connection with the mentioned tool dissapears. Could you tell me what am I doing wrong?

Xiaomi Mi10T Pro - not what I expected

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 02:09 AM PDT

Long story short: after 5 years with my Galaxy S7, I decided to upgrade my handheld, so I was on the hunt for a phone with great specs for a fair price. In the end, it was the Mi10T Pro for me.
And what can I say? I've never been that disappointed by a manufacture and its software. There wasn't a day without exploring new software bugs (the biggest one: my entire gallery was deleted) which made it impossible to enjoy this phone. In the end, I sold this phone for good. Yes, the hardware might be great, but with that software, it's a red flag for me.

(12.5.3) Updating my xiaomi cc9 meitu edition made it not recognize laptop

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:24 PM PDT

    sorry for poorly worded title.

I just updated my Xiaomi cc9 meitu edition last night and it somewhat broke my phone. google apps dont work(I have read about that lol) but now I cant even connect my phone to my laptop or even connect my otg flashdrive there. (my other phone is an Asus and it connects fine so I ruled out have a faulty usb cable or my otg not working properly)

I have tried updating my drivers and a factory reset but it didn't work.

anybody knows how to fix this?

MI 8 Lite can't open google play store and cannot contact google play services

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:10 PM PDT

I know this is a common issue but I haven't been able to fix it with the common fixes that I have found. I already installed the google play store but when I try to open it from another app or by itself, it will just close. I'm on MIUI 12.5.1 Domestic.

How do i return to previous version of MIUI 12

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:00 PM PDT

I recently installed MIUI 12.0.1.0 and I INSTANTLY HATED IT. It ruined most of my apps and doesn't seem to function properly as it is slower than the previous version. Is there a way to rollback to the previous version of MIUI 12? Thank you in advance.

MIUI 12.5.1 - Missing Icons for Media Notifications?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:13 AM PDT

Received the MIUI 12.5.1 for my 9t Pro this week, which required a factory reset because it broke things, but all seems fine now after the reset. Now I just need to get used to what's changed. One (very minor) annoyance is that I've noticed media notifications (e.g. Pocket Casts as my most used app) work fine in notification shade itself, but the app icon is missing from the top left in the status bar. Other kinds of notifications work fine with both notification and icon. So my question to you is this bug or feature?

    K40 Pro+

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 02:18 PM PDT

Hey peeps, I'm thinking of buying the original Chinese version of K40 Pro+ and not the European variant since I'm located in Greece. Does anyone have problems with it? Will I have any issues since it's not officially targeted for use outside of China? Google services/NFC working okay? I am torn since I love the specs of it and the price, there is a huge difference if I buy an equally strong smartphone from here. Any suggestions/recommendations are welcome.

    Redmi Note10S Temperature HELP

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:30 PM PDT

Got Redmi Note10S from Amazon, and i'm not sure if somethign is off.

I used the phone for a day, and charged it, and it was a little bit warm.Called support and did the test. Battery temperature just right after charging at 94% was at 34°, and i was told the limit is 35°

Is this normal behaviour or somethign i should worry about?

Also another issue i noticed with this model is that the "notification effect" while using one of the glowing areas not always works properly. OSmetimes the glow is less intense and odd. After the effect is dont the screen has a second of flickering lines of the screen that turn dark grey instead of black, and then goes back to black.

I have disabled this effect now, but i'm worried there may be somethign off in the phone, and i don't know if it's safe to use, or should i be worried abut it exploding or something.

Should I bother updating my Xiaomi mi note 8?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 05:12 PM PDT

Should I bother updating my Xiaomi mi note 8. I haven't updated the phone ever since I bought it about a year or a year and a half ago.

I always hated updating my phone's due to it always not feeling right since. It's hard to explain.

The only thing that I'm scared of is updating my phone and something happening where I loose my pictures on my phone or something like that happening. Should I update my phone or not bother
