| Recommendations for an app to restrict volume buttons to work on media sound only? Posted: 02 Jun 2021 07:07 AM PDT So, until now I've been between mildly irritated and somewhat annoyed whenever I've noticed my alarm and ringtone volumes having moved around because some genius developer decided it was somehow a good idea to allow the volume keys on Android to adjust the volume of alarms and ringtones while an alarm is going off or the phone's ringing. But today sleeping through two (2) separate very low volume alarms and as a result missing my 'rona vaccination appointment broke the camel's back. This shit has to end now. I don't want those alarm and ringtone volumes to budge unless I specifically go the sound settings and make alterations. But the catch: my phone's on Android 8.1, so there's no built-in option in the sound settings for restricting the volume keys to work on media sound only. With tons of diferent volume control related apps out there on Google Play, I'd very much appreciate suggestions and recommendations. No need for anything fancy, just the ability to restrict the volume keys to only work on certain sound sources would be enough. Naturally, being free and devoid of extraneous gubbins and miscellaneous jank & junk is a definite plus. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]  |

| Help! Trying to find a phone app for my father Posted: 01 Jun 2021 01:59 PM PDT My father (almost 70yo) keeps missing phone calls from me, my mother and others. He never seems to be aware that he has missed a call. I keep telling him to drag his finger down from the top of the screen to view all his notifications (including missed calls) but he just can't seem to get that into his head. Also his eyesight might be a factor. He has a fairly new Android 10 phone with a big 6.5" screen. Does anyone know of a phone app which makes it extremely clear when you have missed call? Like, super-in-your-face: "You have a missed call from ....!" Perhaps in loud colors and loud noises etc.? Please help if you can? [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:17 AM PDT I used to use Smart Drawer, 2hich did both, and I loved it, but it has stopped working, and I've confirmed with the devs that they aren't working on it any further. Smart Dtawer automatically organized traps by category, internet apps, communication apps, utilities etc. It also had a surge function where you could select a letter of the alphabet and it would show you all the apps that start with that letter. I found another app called Launchboard that is really cool - you put it in place of your regular app drawer icon, and when you tap it, it pops a little drawer of of the alphabet, and when you tap a letter it shows you just the apps that start with that letter. It also has a row of frequently steps at the top. However it hasn't been updated since November of 2020, and I'm not sure if it's still active, presumably it is but it made me wonder if there were other apps that do these things. Is anyone else out there using an alternate app drawer that either shorts by category or by letter or both? [link] [comments]  |

I currently use Textra which used to do this, but after downloading a recent update it has stopped. In the blue circle of this lockscreen notification, it used to show number of messages but it no longer does. I am missing this feature because now I have to unlock the phone every time in case they sent me more than just 1 message. In the past, if they sent me only 1 message then it would say '1 unread message' so I would not have to unlock the phone and check for any further messages. Most of the original functionality of Flow Home hasn't worked for years, but I mostly just miss the Flow Home Twitter feed on my home screen. Is there another Android launcher similar to Flow Home? | Looking for a music app that can organize playlists into folders / categories Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:31 AM PDT So as of right now, I am a Blackplayer user. There's a lot I love about the app, it's sleek and responsive and pretty much works in every way I need it to. (Chromecast features are kinda buggy with it but eh, never had great Chromecast with anything I've tried.) My main gripe is that I am a bit of a Playlist junkie, so I have a TON of playlists. But it can be hard to sift through them all, if I was able to sort them into groups somehow it would improve the music experience for me substantially. Is there a good all-around music player that can pull this off? Also migrating my playlists from Blackplayer would be important to me as well. Thanks! [link] [comments]  |

| SMS Spam blocking that uses message content? Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:29 AM PDT I've been on an eternal search for good spam blocker apps. I'm currently subscribed to True Caller. Most apps simply have a database of spam numbers to block. Some try to use community-sourced inputs to find others, so in theory, a more popular one might be better but spammers can create new numbers easily. For calls, there isn't much that can be done. True caller has a feature that will allow you to block numbers that have the same area code and prefix as well. As for txt, it would be great if it could be done like email where it learns based on the txt content of the message. Most spam messages are pretty obvious. I use Google Voice (for my GV number) and it works perfectly, all my spam txt get blocked. True caller doesn't do a very good job. I'm currently trying Microsoft's SMS organizer. I'm not sure if it reads the content of the SMS. Are there any other apps out there that use the content? Right now I'm debating whether or not to continue my subscription to True caller or try something else. It does a decent job at blocking phone numbers the app interface is annoying. | Whatsapp not doing local backup restore! Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:12 AM PDT Today I decided to reset the phone. I got all my backups. At the same time, I copied all the files of WhatsApp to my computer completely. now i copied Whatsapp folder to phone internal storage. I installed Whatsapp, I got a message on my number, then I gave permission to google drive for backups (I only store my backups locally, not on google drive) .. but no restore notification/alert came. I don't have any messages! please help me what should i do📷 EDIT: When I uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, the question 'Do you have a backup in google drive' appears. my whatsapp chat backup is locally on my phone. I tried every way. after installing i removed all google accounts, i copied whatsapp backups folder to both sd card and internal storage but it doesn't look at local backups...please we need urgent support! It just checks if there is a google drive backup. then it continues. He wants us to write our name. and then you see that all messages are gone, none of them are restored. (I backed up all my folders whatsapp media, backups, databases etc.)📷 Nobody answers. this is very bad [link] [comments]  |
