I am looking for a touchscreen with a lot of storage space and isn't terribly slow. We use it for homeschool activities, storage of some music, pictures and documents. $800 or under for a new one if possible. One that will last and stay at a good speed.

A good touchscreen and (attachable) keyboard.

My current laptop is dying and I'm trying to find the most affordable option. Also I would prefer some sort of tablet or hybrid because of work.

Minecraft and stream for under $500

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:47 AM PST

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: US, looking to stay under $500. Well under if possible.

Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? It would just be for around the house when I want to play Minecraft away from my desktop. Maybe some streaming. So okay, non annoying performance on Minecraft is my main priority.

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15", but 14" is probably okay and larger is fine.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Minecraft. Almost always on friend's server. With Forge and several mods.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Minecraft. I am not informed enough to answer the fps question. It doesn't have to be the best. Just not too laggy or glitchy.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    Nope

looking for a bright and color accurate 15 inch laptop under 1200 USD

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:1200 USD

    Are you open to refurbs/used?No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?performance=buildquality> form factor

How important is weight and thinness to you?Don't care as long as its not too heavy to carry around

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.15.6

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.not planning to game

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?N/A

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?Bright (>=400nits) and color accurate screen, preferably touch. Good build quality. Decent battery life.

I'm planning to get my mom a new laptop under 1200 USD. She's a teacher, so her main use will be work and multimedia (movies/netflix...). I would like to get one with atleast an 11th gen i7/ ryzen 7 and 16gb ram. 14'' inch seems a little small, so 15.6'' screen-size seems just-right. The most important requirement, however, is a bright (400+nits) and color-accurate screen; I've come across a lot of laptops fitting said specs but with dim ~300nit displays. I'd love yo have a touch-screen too. iDedicated GPU is not required but it won't hurt if it's present.

The hp envy x360 15 seemed perfect but most retailers like best buy seem to only have the 250 nit version. I'm currently considering yoga 7i 15 with a 500 nit HDR display but best buy only has the 12gb model, unfortunately.

I'm pretty much clueless on what to get and would love any help or advice I can get.

Basically I want to be able a couple games on Steam and the Citra & Dolphin emulators. Other than that just word processing, emails, browsing internet. I would like a 2-in-1 tablet/laptop hybrid but if those are underpowered then I would go for a laptop. And if a MacBook running Windows via BootCamp would do the trick then I would be open to that as well.

Macbook died, moving away from Apple

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 06:24 AM PST

    Looking for something under £1500

Any advice is massively appreciated as I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of laptops trying to research this.

Will be using it for music software/music production, Microsoft office and general work/email stuff, a bit of basic graphic design, and then just watching Netflix and using Spotify etc so decent speakers would be good.

Would ideally like 16gb of ram, decent sized screen, potentially touchscreen would be nice.

Also was hoping for 2x usb slots and an aux port but not sure how realistic this is.

I'm no technophobe but I'm a bit clueless regarding laptop specs as I've always just had a Macbook Air, but it's given me a lot of problems over the years, was riddled with bugs and neverending iCloud popups, so feel ready to move to PC.

    Thank you all

Good light yet powerful laptop for 1000-1500 dollars?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 06:15 AM PST

Would like a laptop for high school but would want it to be useful for college too (engineering perhaps). Sturdy portable and powerful laptop that can last me like 5 years or whatnot.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1000-1500. Could increase to something like $1700.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used? not really.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I would like the laptop to be pretty lightweight so I can carry it in my bag. Would also appreciate 2-in-1 for writing notes but it's not necessary.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Pretty important to have the laptop lightweight as possible without sacrificing too much performance. Would also like it to be thin with a few essential ports.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will be gaming and might use it for CAD and video editing.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I usually play FPS games but also some AAA titles and simulators. Would expect 60+ frames.
    • Any specific requirements such as a good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I would like the laptop to have a pretty solid build, a normal keyboard and a decent trackpad. Just as long as the build of the laptop isn't so plastic-ish.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I haven't fully decided yet if this is what I want to go with as I might be asking for a little too much here. Basically, I want a lightweight, thin, powerful laptop for school, games, CAD and etc. Something like the Razer Blade Stealth will do but I have heard issues about that laptop like bad customer service and etc. It doesn't have to be a gaming brand, it can be a normal business-ish laptop or work laptop as long as it can be powerful to run these things.
    • Thanks in advance!

Gaming laptop for Offline gaming while away with work

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 04:19 AM PST

Hello, I'm sure this is the correct disc to help, I am a little clueless when it comes to computer/laptop specs.

So the backstory is I'm in the Military, fly out the country for 12 weeks at a time then come back home for 4 weeks so would like a laptop for mainly offline gaming while I am away as a laptop is easier to carry around opposed to a Tv and console I feel.

I have been looking for a little while without much luck on deciding, I don't really know what I am looking at. I found this article Best gaming laptops for 2021 | PC Gamer A bunch of them look really good, but I can't figure out which one exactly to pick. I don't even how much to pay, £1000 seems like a good figure however I wouldn't mind paying more if it will last longer until I need to upgrade to the latest specs.

I feel like this is all the information I need to post, I don't exactly know what games I will be playing although on console I like sandbox games, shooters and the odd story line.,

    Thankyou in Advance.

Suggestion for 2in1 Convertible for scientific work

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 04:15 AM PST

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    Under €2000. Preferably 1500€ range

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Yes if in good condition.

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

2in1 Convertible will help me tremendiously in documentation. Battery life is no concern, since it will be used on power outlets. Need adequate performance for documentation, compiling of data (most of it image processing), presentational work and calculations

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I dont care about weight or thinness

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    Nothing smaller than 13"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Yes on photo/video editing. Programm used range from standard MS Office software, Library software (EndNote citation library), Statistical software (GraphPad PRISM), Image software (ImageJaka Fiji)

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Have a powerfull gaming desktop, this should be solely for work

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Should have a comfortable keyboard, since documentation will be heavy. I am not paning on using it on commutes or trips, so sturdyness is not a factor. There should be sufficient outlets (USB-C / HDMI) to hook it up to beamers or connect external devices (SSD)

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I was looking for such a device and stumbled upon the HP Spectre x360 Laptop 15-eb0785ng. 16GB of Ram should suffice, as well as processing unit and graphics card. Maybe there is a similar device available for cheaper.

    Thanks for your advice!

Total budget and country of purchase: Indonesia IDR 7.000.000-15.000.000 Or 600USD-1400USD

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. In my humble request, I really want a 2 in 1 especially with stylus one. But if it's not possible it's fine. Battery life, I don't really mind.

•Are you open to refurbs/Used Yes, anything is fine as long as it could live for 5-6 years

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. At least 13.3" I don't really care the size

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming & Digital Illustration. Gaming such as: Genshin Impact, Fall guys, Emulator, etc. I'm not going to run Cyberpunk. Digital Illustration: Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, SAI.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? at least 720p. Higher better especially for game like Genshin Impact I really want to get 60fps.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? don't really care. I only used 1 3.0 USB back then. If it's possible I hope I would got something with HDMI& usb type c.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I currently use a laptop Asus X455WA. It has AMD E1-6010, integrated graphics, 2GB ram. I don't really care if it's new or used or refurbished. As long as it works fine and dandy for 5-6 years I'm good. If I couldn't find the laptop in my country please give me the link from Amazon/ebay/ or website that could use western union as their payment. And my country's tax for importing now is flat 17.5% for anything less than 1500USD in laptop section.

Hey guys, we have been working on making cloud computing accessible for all and are looking for beta users at the moment. We’re currently running Windows machines on AWS servers, here you can see a speed test on one of our machines. Check out render.so if you are interested :)

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 03:35 AM PST

For those of you who are wondering how the whole thing works technically: When configuring your computer, you give us your approximate location and we start the service for you in a data center near you, so that the latency is as low as possible. Of course, we are also bound to the limits of what is physically possible, but we are totally thrilled ourselves about how well it works. The (totally crazy) download speed from the data center is also pretty cool. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them :)

Looking for a 15.6”, rtx 3060, thin and light.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 03:00 AM PST

As the title says, I've been looking at Lenovo, Razer, and the ROG G15. Ruled out the G15 I think due to no webcam (the SO needs it for school as well). I'm looking at spending about $2500 cdn. My priorities are for thin and light as well as good thermals, my last laptop melted the finish on my desk and I'd like for that to not happen again. I guess it should also be pointed out that I'm not a techie kinda guy, won't be opening up the case to do any upgrades myself. Bonus points for good warranty in case something goes wrong. Thanks for reading. S.

Ps. Good quality keyboard and trackpad are important, fingerprint scanner would be nice but not required, no need for a touchscreen or fancy 2in1 or convertible form factor.

I need a RELIABLE laptop after a bad experience! Budget around £2k

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:40 AM PST

After a bad experience with the Dell XPS 9500 (got a refund after two faulty machines) I really really want something that is reliable, even at the expense of performance. I've heard good things about the Thinkpad but when looking a reviews they're not always so good. I'd also like no hassle support - again, dealing with Dell was a nightmare (and they're supposed to be one of the best!). Here is my form:

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      - up to £2200, England
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      - possibly, especially if the support is good and it saves me some money!
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
      - build quality and reliability is paramount. I don't need a 2-in-1. It can be heavy (I have a spare cheap laptop if I need to be mobile). The laptop will remain at home so battery isn't that important. Performance needs to be good (see below) but doesn't have to be top of the range for my budget.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      - not important at all
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      - Anything above 14". I have a large second monitor so doesn't need to be too big.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      - I use photoshop and want to get into video editing (Da Vinci Resolve) but this is just a hobby so I don't need ridiculously fast rendering times. As long as it can handle these programs that's fine, and as long as it doesn't max out and sound like an airplane taking off every time I do something intensive.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      - I'm not a gamer
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
      - Decent keyboard as I use the machine for home office work all day. Does not need touch screen or finger print reader. Must be SSD drive (for the OS at least). Prefer mouse to touchpad so that's not important either (as long as it has one). I'd like 32GB Ram but could get away with 16, especially if that saved me a decent amount of money.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
      - I'm pretty useless with hardware, so I'm really looking for a stress free decent machine that is reliable (sorry to keep saying that but it's so important) and if something does happen to it then I know I can get decent support.

    Many thanks in advance.

I'm looking for inexpensive laptops that are good for gaming

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:37 AM PST

Currently i've got an HP stream with 32 Gb eMMC and 4 Gb memory. Its good for doing little stuff like schoolwork but its trash for anything else since windows takes up most of the space so I want to get rid of it. I want a inexpensive laptop that's good for gaming. I would like it to have enough storage and memory space for games. Id like suggestions on what some of the cheapest laptops are that have a good amount of storage and memory on them?

    Form

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    $400 at most

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Yes

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance is most important. Then battery life, build quality and lastly form factor.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

    Not all that important.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    At least 14"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Gaming: Genshin impact, undertale, and visual novel games

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Yes. About 50-60 FPS. High shadow quality, visual effects and sfx. 1.5 render resolution.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Touch screen would be cool but it's not necessary.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Looking into IdeaPad 5 vs ThinkBook 14/15. Can u guys tell me which one is better?

Trying to find a creative-reliant laptop and, obviously, cheaper compared to gaming laptops/higher-end macbook. I am a film major and will obviously need creative software; will these cut it/make good-enough output? Thanks!
