Asus TUF A17 Ryzen 5 4600H GTX 1650Ti (8GB/1 TB HDD/256 SSD) with 120Hz display. This one has it all. Also has some additional storage too.But many claiming that it some serious thermal issues?? Build quality, performance, then battery life. In that order.

LF premium PC laptop to replace older MBP [15", US, $3000] Posted: 31 Mar 2021 06:26 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: up to $3000, US Are you open to refurbs/used? If valid warranty and truly like new. Otherwise, no. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Leaning ultrabook, or close to it; build quality and performance is very important. I'm looking for a PC to replace my Macbook Pro. It's rare that I won't have an outlet available, but being able to occasionally watch a movie or quickly import some photos and do a little Lightroom editing without being tethered to a wall would be a plus. How important is weight and thinness to you? Somewhat important, but I'll accept being slightly heavier/thicker than MBP if it means better cooling and slower part degradation. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. probably 15"; 13" classes will be too small for my needs and 17" might be too unwieldy for daily travel, but I'm open to 17" suggestions if someone has found one more portable than typically expected. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I do a lot of 3D printing and need to be able to do some basic modeling/CAD work, in addition to slicing the files. I am an amateur photographer and will be using photoshop/lightroom, along with occasional video editing. Some gaming, as noted below next question If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Resolution for photo-editing and video playback is more important than gaming FPS to me. I don't play competitive shooters, but I do play RPGs and strategy games, which is one reason I desire to move away from Apple. A dedicated gaming PC isn't realistic for my life situation (I need to be able to stay in the same room as small children for now), but I'd like to games that don't translate super well to console, like Crusader Kings III, Football Manager/Out of the Park Baseball, Cities, or occasional action RPGs like Divinity II. I don't think i need a dedicated gaming computer and I'm fine using less than the highest settings, but if there's a AAA game with a good story to play through, I'd like to be able to do that. I also use my laptop to be an online DM for D&D and need to run a number apps and browser tabs. While individually each app or tab shouldn't be a huge drain, it tends to add up, as I have discord running audio/video, and a couple web pages with interactive maps, a sound program, Excel, and OneNote all going. Quick screen-switching and/or a secondary screen a huge plus. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Needs a good feel and to be reliable. Touch-screen is a big plus, but can live without if computer is otherwise amazing. Good input devices are top priority. Prefer built-in SD card reader, and both USB Type-A and C support. WiFi 6 support Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I've been strongly considering the ASUS Pro Duo 15 (https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/For-Home/ZenBook/ZenBook-Pro-Duo-UX581/) and was holding out for the refresh (https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/For-Creators/ZenBook/ZenBook-Pro-Duo-15-OLED-UX582/) that is supposed to drop in April 2021 to see reviews on it. But I'm on the fence still. I often tend to use my laptop on my actual lap when I'm using it more casually and I doubt that will be an option with the Pro Duo layout. I can put it on a coffee table / serving table though, so it's probably not a dealbreaker. I've considered the Razer Blade models, but the features-to-price-point ratio seems inferior to the Asus offerings, but perhaps I'm misjudging? I know some people have concerns about OLED tech and burn in. My MPB retina display screen had burn in within a year or two and wasn't covered under warranty (and had pixels die right after warranty expired). Would prefer not to repeat that, but I know experiences differ. I don't need a full-on workstation, but this will be my only computer for the next year or two at least. I want it to be easy to put in a bag and take to work or the occasional coffee shop, but I'm not going to have it on my person that often, and I'll generally have access to a power outlet. Posted: 31 Mar 2021 05:07 AM PDT Hello guys. Planning to buy a new laptop here in UK. Will be using it for some gaming, would like it to run smoothly games like PUBG,CS:GO,COD:Warzone, maybe some new MMORPG's, but the video quality doesn't matter that much, performance is the most important. Mostly I just want a laptop that could last me for as long as possible, since I think I'll build a PC later this year. I am wondering are Lenovo laptops any good? Here are two that look the same to me, but would prefer them over others because of the display size Other obvious choices are https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-15-en0008na-GeForce-Dedicated-Graphics/dp/B0877LGCS6/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=gaming+laptop&qid=1617190765&sr=8-6 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2021 01:53 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 〜€1000, France. Are you open to refurbs/used? Depends. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance first. How important is weight and thinness to you? As long as it can be put in a backpack, that's OK. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'd like to be able to have several pieces of software launched simultaneously (that is to say, I don't want to have to close some programs if I have one game opened, for instance). Ideally, I'd like to have things like Firefox + Discord + Spotify + a game such as Dota 2 open at the same time (so perhaps, preferably a laptop with at least 12 or 16GB RAM). If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Mainly Dota 2 and CS:GO, medium or high settings 60fps. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Ethernet port if possible. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. My current laptop is a SWIFT SF314-41. I'd like to run games like Dota 2 and CS:GO, but my laptop struggles with them. I usually just connect my laptop to an external screen, so I don't care about the battery, the screen size, LEDs or features like that as I will practically never use it when it's not connected to another monitor. If I can save some money on that, that'd be great. I just need a laptop that is easy to carry, with good performance in Dota 2 and CS:GO (I won't play any other game that needs better specs) and for multitasking. I also thought that perhaps, a better solution would be to buy a mini-computer, but I have zero knowledge about these. If you have any information though, I'll gladly consider it. [link] [comments] |
Lenovo X1 Extreme 3 vs Dell XPS 9500 [2021] Posted: 30 Mar 2021 03:07 PM PDT Hi, this question was asked many times but not in 2021 yet. I am looking for a power horse laptop for coding, compiling big projects and running virtual machines. 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, TPM2.0 and upgradeability are strongly desired, while battery is less important. My previous laptop was MacBook pro running bootcamp and I was very happy with it. I liked pretty much everything in MBP: the screen, the keyboard and the touchpad. I could even sacrifice upgradeability but lack of the TPM chip is a break dealer for me. X1 Extreme gen 3 OLED screen seemed to be the best candidate: it fits the criteria above and looks great. But the more I read about it the more I lean towards XPS. The biggest concern about X1 is the touchpad. I had t440 10 years ago and I remember that the touchpad was just horrible and the screen was too dim. X1 touchpad looks better but XPS seems to be a winner here. I like the X1 look, it maybe more sturdy and durable than the XPS but the touchpad... On the other hand I never owned Dell and it doesn't look as terrific as X1. My heart is with X1 but brain tells that I have to stick to the XPS 4K screen. So what do you suggest to buy? How does the XPS feel against the X1? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Laptop for CAD/Revit/Solidworks. Posted: 31 Mar 2021 05:12 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: £3500 UK Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Max performance How important is weight and thinness to you? Don't mind. Just want as close to desktop performance possible. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" min, 17" preferred Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Will be using CAD, Revit, Solidworks in the future. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No gaming. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? At least 24GB RAM, 32 preferred. I want a machine that is least likely to throttle, so good cooling is a priority. Single thread performance is priority over multicore. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This is going to be a work laptop, and my main goal is maximum performance with the least thermal throttling. Looks/form factor don't matter. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help! Need a Surface pro alternative Budget (1350$) Posted: 31 Mar 2021 04:43 AM PDT Performance: Must be a core i5 or better, 8GB ram, 256 GB storage, can play a bit of Games, Doesn't crash while doing office or SketchUp. Referbished?: Yes but if they have good specs Web cam must be good, also applies to microphone. Bluetooth must be good. Speakers need to be good. Btw not counting discounted because I live in a another country. So deals only us like best buy do not count. For security I need either face recognition or fingerprint. It would be nice if they have a Pen with it. Must have USB-C ( at least one and can charge) sorry if I wrote all of this together and not put it in to per paragraph because Reddit just crash while I'm writing this so I lost all my text. And oh its nice to have a keyboard come with it. [link] [comments] |

Looking for a 15.6 inch laptop for doing design work in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop Posted: 31 Mar 2021 07:49 AM PDT Hello everyone I am looking for a laptop for doing design work in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop
USA and $1400
No
For me the build quality is of the highest importance. Performance and Battery life can be compromised on.
Very. Max weight should be about 1.9kg/4.18878 lbs
15.6
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
N/A
Good color accuracy - preferably 100% adobe RGB and good build quality are important to me. Any decent graphics card should do. Preferably a keyboard with more travel. Touch screen is not required.
Thanks for your help 📷 [link] [comments] |
Looking for a good Ryzen laptop under 1500 which I can game, watch videos and program a bit on Posted: 31 Mar 2021 03:59 AM PDT
Performance, then build quality, then battery life. I also care about thermals as I don't want my laptop to heat up too much
Doesn't matter a ton
~15 inches is ideal but anything between 13-18 inches will be open to consideration
Gaming mostly. I may also occasionally do some programming if my school laptop can't run a particularly intensive assignment
The games I play aren't too intensive, mostly Paradox games, M&B, etc. I'd like to run those at the highest settings preferably
SSD pls
I've had my eye on this laptop specifically for a while but it's always so decided to do more research in the meanwhile, but that's what I'd like to compare other laptops against. Would like something that won't be outdated for 5+ years Also if there's something particularly good coming up or something I'm willing to wait but no longer than until Juneish Thank you! :) [link] [comments] |

Should I get Asus ROG Strix G15 2021? Posted: 31 Mar 2021 06:54 AM PDT Hello. I am planning to buy Asus Rog Strix G15 2021 version with Ryzen 9 5900HX and RTX3070. I will use it mostly for coding and gaming. Good thermals are important for me. I would not like a laptop that constantly goes over 90 C while gaming. Can people who own this laptop tell me about their experience? For example: how are the thermals, battery life, and performance? I watched a few videos about it but still would like to hear from actual owners. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

US laptop for a remote work laptop around $600 Posted: 31 Mar 2021 05:14 AM PDT
[link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2021 01:20 AM PDT TLDR: Max budget is about $2,000USD, give or take some. Preferably not used. Battery not much of an issue as I'll likely have it plugged in most of the time. Lightweight, good cooling most important alongside better GPU and CPU for gaming. 16" max. Games listed below 2nd to last paragraph. Don't care about how good the screen is so long as it's "good enough" for FPS games and the like. Don't plan on watching amazing movies on it or something. No touch screen (waste of cash for my purposes) - would like it to last at least 3 years or so. Longer: I'm honestly loving this laptop, but it's starting to get old. The keyboard makes me WANT to type on it it feels so nice... It's treated me really well in the time that I've had it, but it's getting to be about 4 years+ old now, and little things are starting to pop up that make its age known. I use it for both games and work and travel a lot. I'd like it to be able to handle moderately high stress games for CPU with temp controls that can handle it. Today, I played Sea of Thieves for example, and the temps got up to 92C even after underclocking it with Intel Xtreme Tuning Utility, after repasting, and after getting rid of dust and changing the power settings to "balanced" and things like this... When before it wouldn't even go above 75CSeems like this laptop is coming to an end. Games I most commonly play currently to get a decent idea of power: Sea of Thieves, Battlefront 2, WoW, Warcraft 3, Diablo 3 (I know... I know -_-) I'm waiting for games like Cyberpunk 2077, any future star wars games, potentially CoD? (unsure) Ideally lightweight for travel, not above 16" (if possible), and just good at keeping temps down honestly... I dun wanna freak out about it getting to 90C+ while I play Battlefront 2. I know this is hard to get with a laptop, but... That's my main thing. [link] [comments] |

Advice on purchasing a new laptop Posted: 31 Mar 2021 03:38 AM PDT Hi all, hoping someone can advise me on what spec laptop I need. I don't really understand exactly which elements matter, so I've done some brief research and come up with a possible option but would love some advice. I typically have open 20+ Firefox windows, 10+ pdfs, maybe 5 word documents, 3 spreadsheets, outlook plus maybe 10 emails opened up, plus some other data managing software, and my laptop has got so slow it's painful. I don't quite know which particular aspects make a device fast or slow which really doesn't help when looking for a new laptop. Currently have aspire laptop, i5-5200, 8gb ram Was thinking of an hp pavilion laptop, amd ryzen 7 4700u processor, 16mb ram, 512gb ssd. Seen one for sale for £850. I'm not sure if that one is sufficient or good value so would appreciate any advice. Would that likely make a significant improvement? If not could you advise what particular aspects I need to look for? I'd rather spend more money and less time in a cycle of perpetual rage waiting for my laptop to do something. [link] [comments] |
