    $1,000 USA

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 09:02 PM PST

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    $1,000 USD

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Not really

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I need a laptop that can handle all day use, the build should be pretty durable (last laptop was a Dell that crumbled very quickly lol), and I honestly don't care much about battery life as I'll have it plugged in almost always.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

    Not important at all

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    15.6"+

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

MSPaint is a must lol. I am looking for a laptop that can run many games. Currently I play a LOT of Sims 4, but I'm getting more and more into "serious" games.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Games include: Sims 4, Hollow Knight, Alien: Isolation, Terraria, Celeste, Blair Witch, Amnesia, Outlast, Stardew Valley. Honestly haven't had a nice enough PC to be able to be picky about FPS. As high as I can get for my money I guess?

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I need my keyboard to have a keypad. I'm really used to touchscreen, but that isn't a must. A headphone jack is appreciated heavily, but not required.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I mostly use my laptop for online schoolwork, done all on Chrome. Multiple tabs open, switching between them, etc. I also stream YouTube and use other streaming platforms.

Tired of bad Windows laptops 11000 DKK Denmark

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 02:08 AM PST

So my brother bought a surface laptop 3 i5 256 GB a couple of days ago from the microsoft store (based in Europe). Turns out after a few days of use that it has very poor wifi connectivity, sometimes even drops the connection. It is so infuriating that a "premium" laptop with such a high price tag can't even keep a consistent wifi connection. We have tried everything to fix the problem but it didn't work so are issuing a refund.

My brother needs a laptop that is fast, stable, thin&light should be metal with good battery life. He does not play games but does use specialized software such as GAMS and Energy modelling software. For that reason I am guessing it would be a bad idea to buy a MacBook.

What is the most stable, top-of-the-top Windows laptop that will last atleast 4 years from now.

    Price range about

    10-11k DKK

    TEMPLATE HERE:

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:10000 - 11000 DKK
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?No
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?good performance (i5 would do no AMD please)
    • build quality should be 10/10
    • battery life should be 10/10
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?Should be thin, but can be heavy (metal build)
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.13" or 13.5"
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.GAMS, TIMES Energy modelling, no gaming.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?-fill here, remove dashes-
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?Build quality should be top-notch including keyboard and touchpad. Keyboard should have good travel.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.Something that is reliable and will last (I have had costly windows laptops in the past where the hinge broke after 2-ish years)
    • Dell XPS 13 2019 has too small screen size/aspect ratio. 2020 version is good but too costly.

      N/A thanks

Yesterday from Best Buy I bought an open-box-fair ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G14 14" Gaming Laptop. (AMD Ryzen 9 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q - 1TB SSD - Moonlight White). It has been non stop crashing and I'm very disappointed. I like the look of it, but pretty upset with performance even after extreme trouble shooting! The specs don't need to be this good, but I would like it to be ideally close to the Planet Zoo recommended. Any other suggestions would be lovely. Thank you so very much! Also, I prefer to buy from Best Buy, but you could probably convince me otherwise.

Why are Microsoft Surface products so unreliable?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 04:25 AM PST

Seriously, I absolutely love Surface products. But for me, as Im sure with anyone else, reliability is a crucial factor. It is not a secret that Surface's reliability is not the best, and quite far below average.

I am not an Apple person but credit where credit is due, they are indeed reliable.

Looking for a very high spec laptop.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 08:20 PM PST

I want a laptop that satisfies the following conditions:

    • 64gb - 128 gb ram
    • processor: anything that's among the fastest and newest of whatever brand
    • storage: Preferably 1tb but 500gb is ok too. nvme ssd.
    • screen: between 15-17"
    • weight: under 8 lb (not one of these thick and heavy gaming laptops)

    Also non-mandatory conditions:

    • preferably non-Macbook, but it's ok to suggest a mac if it satisfies all conditions above.
    • no crazy very bright blinking lights on the surface ( example https://i.ytimg.com/vi/l-tJ-8j6DNU/maxresdefault.jpg) One of my previous laptops had very very bright blinking lights that sabotaged my eyes. As long as the blinking lights are not too bright, they're ok.

    Price doesn't matter.

    Uni laptop help

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 09:38 PM PST

Hi guys, could you please give me some good laptops for uni. I plan on doing a bachelor of business with a major in accounting. Don't really have a budget, but I feel like $800 AUD is enough, as I feel like for a business degree, a basic laptop would suffice. Mainly because I think that for a business degree, most of my time on laptop would be research/note, but again I haven't started uni yet (starting in a month's time), so please let me know if I'm wrong

I was initially thinking of getting the M1 air, but can't justify spending that much, especially since I'm doing a business degree, and don't feel like I would need any special software/apps. Still stuck on if I should get it tho, since it would last me quite some time, it would be discounted (10%) and I will also get free airpods with the back to school deal.

Total budget and country of purchase:* $800-$1500 Australian dollars

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life and specs

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Would like a lightweight laptop as I'll be carrying it around at uni

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Not too sure, but I think that I can use any

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? -fill here, remove dashes-

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Just a laptop that would last me at least 4 years

    • **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

      3500 - 4000 PEN (Perú)
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Main priority is performance. Would like a decent build quality. Battery life is not important
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      Not important at all.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      N/A
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Zoom screen sharing while using Powerpoint, Word, or multiple Google Chrome tabs is a priority.
Then, if possible, the potential for music production, digital illustration, and photo and video editing for small projects.
Finally, any type of gaming potential would be a nice extra
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Maybe Minecraft, but any game at 24 fps without drops or beyond would be appreciated.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Would prefer more than 2 USB ports. Not interested in touch-screen

I would like to be able to connect a mic and a guitar to my audio interface and stream that signal through zoom for some live singing. Video editing would be small non-complex projects, probably not ever passing from 15m.

    Laptop for Architecture

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 08:54 PM PST

I am looking to buy a latop that can handle programs like revit, rhino, grasshopper, lumion etc.

Money is thankfully not a problem this time as this is meant to be an investment for something that will last.

I would have gone with the macbook m1 but unfortunately you cant run bootcamp on it and most of the architecture softwares only run on windows.

Any suggestions for a powerful and aesthetically pleasing option?

    See the minimum specs required:

-CPU: Intel i5 or i7 Dual-Core processor 2GHz or faster. -Display: 1280x1020 (1920x1080 Recomended) -Memory: 8GB (16GB Recomended) -GPU: 2GB VRAM NVIDIA Quadro / AMD Radeon Pro or Intel UHD 630 -Storage: 256GB SSD or higher

    Good allrounder under 1200€

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 12:19 AM PST

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    max. 1200€ (Austria)

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    no

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

a 2 in 1 would be cool but is not necessary

would prefere good build quality not to flimsy

good battery life need it for school and there arent that many outlets so at least 7 hours

at least 16gb of ram and 512gb ssd

How important is weight and thinness to you?

under 2 kg and under 2 cm

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

between 13 and 15.6 inches, more on the 14 to 15.6 inch size

    Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming?

some photo editing and programming also a bit of casual gaming but xe graphics and the new ryzen apu will be fine

List which programs/games you desire to run.

lightroom, photoshop, office-suite, a lot of browsing on mozilla, and some paladins or so

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play?

paladins and apex but i have a desktop for gaming

At what settings and FPS do you want?

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    a good display is mandatory

at least 300 nits and good color gamut

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
